Virtual reality theaters have been around for a little while now. Last year, /Film’s Peter Sciretta wrote about visiting IMAX’s flagship Vr Experience Center in Los Angeles, a physical location where you can don a headset and a haptic backpack to play Vr games in pods rented by the hour. But Paramount Pictures has collaborated with companies like Oculus, Samsung, and […]

Jp Morgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon may not believe in bitcoin — but banks like his are the reason it exists, a prominent investment manager tells TheWrap. Bitcoin prices have tumbled from $4,200 to $3,900 in the last 24 hours, after Dimon called the online currency a “fraud” on Tuesday. But investor Ross Gerber says that’s pretty rich, coming from someone that presided over a bank that needed a $12 billion government bailout in 2008. “mother!” doesn’t officially world premiere until next week at the Venice Film Festival, but Darren Aronofsky held a top secret screening for close friends and associates last night and the reactions pretty much confirm the Oscar-nominated director has made the most insane movie of his career. Only Anthony Bourdain and horror writer Mylo Carbia were allowed to share their thoughts on social media, and the two first reactions are bonkers.

Bourdain made headlines for tweeting negatively about Edgar Wright’s “Baby Driver” earlier this year, but it looks like he feels just the opposite about “mother!” The chef and television personality calls the film “dark,” “brilliant,” and a “good poke in [the] eye to convention.” But most enticing is this bit from his reaction: “[It] will upset the fuck out of people.”

Who could forget the tagline “They’re Here” from the film Poltergeist, directed by the late, great Toby Hooper? Steven Spielberg wrote and produced the story but could not direct it himself as he was under contract to exclusively direct “Et The Extraterrestrial.” The team up of two masters of cinema left us with one of the most powerfully fresh movies in horror history. Before”Poltergeist” was made, moviegoers had a standard idea of a haunted house. In American Cinema, a haunted house invariably had to be up in New England. It was an old family estate with a rich, sordid history

Drone racing is a motorsport that came into existence in recent times because of the popularization of drones. In brief, it sees people competing to see which one of them can use a drone to complete a course as fast as possible while wearing a head-mounted display for a first-person perspective, thus explaining its name. Although the motorsport started up in Australia in 2014, it has since managed to rouse the interest of individuals from countries all around the world, as shown by the fact that competitions have been held in China, Canada, the European Union, the United Kingdom, and

Zeke Smith admits there were some things he wanted to keep to himself when he signed up for not one, but two seasons of Survivor.
That all changed on Wednesday's episode of Survivor: Game Changer when fellow castaway, Jeff Varner, outed him as being transgender during the tribal council portion of the show. Varner was promptly voted off the island, unanimously.
"I’m not wild about you knowing that I’m trans. An odd sentiment, I realize, for someone who signed up for two seasons of the CBS reality giant, Survivor," Smith admits in an op-ed for The Hollywood Reporter. "See, when I got on a plane to Fiji last March, I expected to get voted out third. I’d return home, laugh at my misadventure, and go about my life, casually trans in the same way that Zac Efron is casually Jewish."

During the final night of PaleyFest La, the always intense “American Horror Story” fanbase zeroed in on fan favorite Sarah Paulson, to the point that Kathy Bates took great pleasure in dubbing Paulson “the People’s Princess.” It was all in good fun, though, as the cast goofily bantered back and forth — and, in the case of Cuba Gooding Jr., twerked.

What do you get when you mix Twin Peaks with Archie Comics?
You get Riverdale. A dark and picturesque mystery that pulls you in with dreams of white picket fences and hidden secrets. It may sound strange at first, but it works.
Riverdale Season 1 Episode 1 introduced us to the small town of Riverdale, and the familiar faces/places we grew up reading in the Archie Comics. But it's nothing like the comics. This is Archie with an edge.
The tone is slower, the colors are darker, and the characters have their own wants and desires. This is a juicy mystery served like a soda pop at Pop Tate's Chock'lit Shoppe. (Speaking of, I love the neon coloring in the Shoppe.)

“Big Little Lies” is about, on its surface, women who go to war with each other. But if you look deeper, you’ll see a meaningful bond between friends, insightful conversations about who we are and what we want, as well as — perhaps above all else — women fighting back, together.
“As much as there is conflict, this piece is about women supporting each other,” Nicole Kidman said.
“I love that it’s about women coming together and making something happen very quickly,” Reese Witherspoon added.
Starring Kidman, Witherspoon, Shailene Woodley, and Zoe Kravitz (all of whom were on hand Sunday), the HBO adaptation of “Big Little Lies” is told from the perspective of three mothers: Jane (Woodley), a newcomer to Monterrey who moved there to provide a better life for her son, Madeline (Witherspoon), a take-charge, part-time worker, full-time mom who befriends Jane on the first day school, and Celeste...

It’s been over three years since Ang Lee won his second Best Director Oscar for the eye-popping 3D adventure “Life Of Pi,” and he returns this year with an even more ambitious project that could very well change the way movies are shot, exhibited and experienced. “Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk,” adapted from the 2012 book by Ben Fountain, follows a 19-year-old private (played by newcomer Joe Alwyn) as he spends the day preparing to appear at the halftime show of a Thanksgiving Day football game. It’s a simple premise, sure, but it’s not the experience you’r expecting, trust us.

Last Week’S Review: Chapter 6 Is a Total Game Changer
Setting The Scene
While last week was largely devoted to setting up “American Horror Story’s” new found footage status quo, “Chapter 7” puts its foot on the accelerator and doesn’t let up. “Chapter 6” gave me hope that the back half of “Roanoke” might live up to past seasons, and this week’s episode cranks up the scares and the Wtf moments that have always been the show’s trademark. Who knows if the remainder of Season 6 can keep up this pace, but for now it’s nice to enjoy the ride.
Fact vs. Fiction
We open a few minutes before the conclusion of “Chapter 6,” as Dominic arrives and Matt rushes to beat him up. Dominic, it turns out, is a grade A heel, who immediately starts putting the moves on Shelby again, only to later confess he’s only...

Dear weirdos of the world — if you love the original “Rocky Horror Picture Show,” if it changed your life forever, if its musical numbers are embedded in the grooves of your brain, you probably shouldn’t watch the new Fox remake (subtitled “Let’s Do the Time Warp Again”), airing tonight.
Not that it’s stupefyingly bad, but because if you watch looking for the reasons you love the Jim Sharman-directed 1975 film, you’ll find yourself sorely disappointed.

While overlooked by audiences, critics made “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” one of the most talked-about new shows of 2015. The Golden Globe and TCA winner earned kudos for its ambitious production, hilarious cast of characters and insightful analysis of modern relationships, all while introducing many to the joyous delight that is creator and star Rachel Bloom.
Yet among the many profound discussions stemming from addictive musical numbers like “The Sexy Getting Ready Song” and “You Stupid Bitch,” perhaps too little credit was given to the thankless side of Rebecca’s character, and to Bloom for creating and embodying a woman whose mistakes are alienating, empathetic and educational in brilliantly calculated combinations.

“Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk” entered fall with serious Oscar buzz. But after the curtain was lifted at last night’s Nyff world premiere, director Ang Lee’s excitement for the new technology that brought his story to the screen — with a presentation in 3D, 4k resolution and 120 frames-per-second — appears to have been his undoing. Indiewire’s Eric Kohn gave the film a B-, noting that it’s “just a decent story laced with attempts to make it larger than life.” Reviews across the board greeted the movie with something of a shrug, and critics had many problems with the technology. Some notable industry takes:
The Guardian‘s Benjamin Lee
It’s a strange test subject for this technology and Lee’s two-hour argument that this will be how all films should be viewed in the future is a failed one.
Uproxx‘s Mike Ryan
I never felt like I was watching a movie.

Filmmaker Ang Lee’s latest foray into forward-thinking filmmaking promises viewers nothing less than a brand new cinematic experience, one that the “Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk” director believes actually verges on being an entirely new medium. Lee previously utilized 3D technology for his 2012 “Life of Pi” — earning a Best Director Oscar along the way — and his desire to keep pushing boundaries to deliver new breakthroughs to both the industry and his audience has only increased since then.
For his “Billy Lynn,” based on the novel of the same name by Ben Fountain, Lee decided to push into a new realm, one that went far past 3D technology. Lee also utilized 4K resolution (2K is the current standard) for the film, along with a mind-blowing new frame rate of 120 frames per second (the current standard is 24fps, and when Peter Jackson amped up the frame rate of his “Hobbit” series,...

Exclusive: “We’re going through a sea change,” Lionsgate executive says of the film business today.
This Sunday, industry veteran and sales supremo Patrick Wachsberger, co-chairman, Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, will be honoured at the Zurich Film Festival with the event’s Game Changer Award, which is bestowed on an individual who has been able to “successfully navigate through the aggressively changing entertainment landscape.”
Wachsberger’s more than 30-year navigation of those choppy waters has seen him play a pivotal role in two billion-dollar franchises, multiple Oscar and Palme d’Or campaigns and two of the industry’s most successful independent film companies of recent decades.
However, the film business is more unpredictable than ever claims the former Summit boss, who spoke to Screen shortly before the surprise news that fellow Lionsgate co-chair Rob Friedman is to leave the company.

Notably absent from the announcement video, which was first posted to the “Degrassi” Facebook page, is one Jimmy Brooks, Aka Drake. The popular basketball star was bound to a wheelchair after a school shooting — easily one of the show’s most over-the-top incidents, which is saying a lot — but remained a fan favorite.
