10.7 The Pyramid At The End Of The World
This is an episode, I’d suggest, where the bulk of conversation is going to be centered on the ending. But we’ll get there. Because it’s also one that demonstrates it’s the small things that matter. In the case of the world ending this time around, it’s miniscule details that can kickstart the process. A dropped glass after a few drinks the night before. A pair of spectacles getting smashed in an innocent accident, in turn limiting the eyesight of Rachel Denning's otherwise super-efficient scientist. A Time Lord losing his sight – save for the ability to read some emails in his glasses - by trying to save his companion.

This Wednesday on Arrow, Damien Darhk’s demolition team huffs and puffs and targets our band of heroes with some carefully orchestrated building deconstruction. Elsewhere, Thea makes a big discovery about Oliver, and then gives her brother some disappointing advice.

Rebels #5
Written by Brian Wood
Art by Andrea Mutti
Colors by Jordie Bellaire
Published by Dark Horse Comics
Most of Rebels #5 deals with how Seth’s determination is what gets him to accomplish his mission, however lofty it is. Tasked with taking extremely heavy and bulky cannon down to Boston from New York, Seth is dead set it’ll take longer than two weeks. The mission seems to set Seth up for failure, for some unexplained reason, but Seth accomplishes this duty. The issue juxtaposes the cannon transportation mission with Seth’s journey to save his father’s life as a boy. Brian Wood does a good job of showing how Seth was taught to finish his undertakings no matter how long they take. While dragging his father’s body across a frozen land, Seth uses his grit and determination, instilled by his father, to drag him all the way home.

A book about the creators of classics like Xenon, Speedball and Chaos Engine, The Bitmap Brothers: Universe has appeared on Kickstarter...
British publisher Read-Only Memory has created some stunning books over the past couple of years.
Sensible Software 1986-1999 charted the history of the studio behind such classic games as Wizball, Sensible Soccer and Cannon Fodder. Lavishly illustrated and packed with information, it functioned both as a handsome coffee table book and a historical document.
Sega Mega Drive/Genesis: Collected Works was even more beautiful to look at, with its black, embossed hard covers mimicking the sleek design of the console it celebrated, while its glossy pages were devoted to everything from developer interviews to recreations of game cover artwork and design documents.
Read-Only Memory is now turning its attention to another industry great - the British software house, The Bitmap Brothers.

Nice to see we’re setting trends here on Nerdly. After announcing our own foray into VOD, and more importantly into the distribution of unseen, often independent, horror movies, with Nerdly Presents, Icon Film Distribution and FrightFest, the UK’s leading horror fantasy film festival, have announced that they’ve entered into an exclusive partnership that will see Ifd releasing FrightFest curated films under the banner ‘FrightFest Presents’.
In a move to expand the Frightfest “brand”, select FrightFest endorsed films will be made available across the UK and Ireland via Ifd’s digital partners (including Sky, iTunes, Amazon, Blinkbox, Film4OD, VirginMovies, TalkTalk, Google, Volta, and Eircom) giving film fans instant access to some of their favourite FrightFest titles. Here’s hoping some of those Frightfest-screened movies which never made it to UK distribution finally see the light of day – films like Israeli zombie film Cannon Fodder for example…

Another World is (unsurprsingly) described as a post-apocalyptic zombie movie. Only unlike the last Israeli zombie movie, Cannon Fodder, this film is apparently shot in English rather than Hebrew, which was one of the reasons I personally told by a number of UK distributors that Eitan Gafny’s fantastic film wouldn’t see the light of day here in the UK – despite having a Us release last year under a the more generic title of Battle of the Undead…
Another World is set in a post-apocalyptic future, where a biological warfare program gone wrong leaves only four survivors defending themselves from “the infected” – mindless killers. As they struggle to survive and make sense of what is happening, they find another survivor, intent on revealing the truth. Check out the poster, trailer and six images from the film below:
Another World is repped by Spotlight Pictures. Check out the official website here.

Mama said knock you out, goes the L.L. Cool J classic — and that’s exactly what The Voice will aim to do when Knockout Rounds begin Monday (8/7c on NBC).
But as the Season 7 coaches — Pharrell, Gwen, Adam and Blake — prepare to whittle down their teams in head-to-head solo matchups, who’s got the momentum? After all, the Knockout proceedings will whittle each team from eight hopefuls to four (with one Steal added from an opposing coach’s roster) — and that means only 20 of the 32 current artists will proceed to the Live Playoffs.

Hebrew and English language Children of the Fall will be set on eve of 1973 Yom Kippur War.
Genre specialist Eitan Gafny, director of one of Israel’s first zombie films Cannon Fodder, is gearing up to shoot a horror picture set on a kibbutz in northern Israel on the eve of the 1973 Yom Kippur War.
“It’s a cross-genre film inspired by some of the biggest Us horror films of the 1970s, like Halloween and The Texas Chain Saw Massacre… some people might see it as a slasher film, others as a psychological thriller. And it’s also got a huge social commentary in it… it’s half drama, half horror film,” says Gafny.

Well it’s that time of year again, end of year/best of list time! If you’ve been reading this site – or Blogomatic3000 – for a while now you’ll know my tastes are generally a little different from the more mainstream sites and so my Top 10′s are too! Anyone who covers (or at least obsesses over) the current landscape of international horror cinema should be pleased to notice when a specific country speaks up and bangs out a fresh handful of genre films. Over the years we've seen eruptions like these from Spain, France, Ireland, Japan, and a dozen other nations that don't ordinarily produce a lot of genre films that make a big splash overseas -- and now we can add Israel to that list.
The Israeli genre output began with the very amusing slasher throwback called Rabies, and those filmmakers have an excellent new movie called Big Bad Wolves that's coming out early next year. Plus there's the familiar but well-made Israeli zombie movie called Cannon Fodder and a deviously crafty new psychological thriller called Goldberg & Eisenberg, which feels like it was inspired by Coen brothers neo-noir, Woody Allen misfit rom-com, and maybe just a little...

Jennifer Lawrence is back as Katniss, in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. Here's our review...
You’ve got to feel sorry for Katniss Everdeen. The hero of any story has to be prepared for a bit of pain and suffering, but she’s really being put through the mill. After emerging triumphant at the end of The Hunger Games, saving both her own life and that of her soft-of-almost-boyfriend’s through a clever bit of trickery, you’d think she’d be allowed to relax for a while. But no. No, things are about to get much, much worse for Katniss…
Catching Fire picks up more or less where the first film left off. Katniss and Peeta have returned home to District 12, where they’re rewarded with huge new houses and all the food they can eat, but that doesn’t mean they can live happily ever after.

Another 25 unsung greats come under the spotlight, as we provide our pick of the underappreciated films of 1995...
The year covered in this week's underrated movie rundown was significant for a number of reasons. It was the year that saw the release of Toy Story - the groundbreaking movie that would cement Pixar's reputation as an animation studio, and set the tempo for CG family movies for the next 18 years and counting. It was the year that saw James Bond (played by Pierce Brosnan for the first time) emerge for GoldenEye after a six-year break. It was also the year of Michael Mann's Heat, Dogme 95, and the moment where Terry Gilliam scored a much-deserved hit with 12 Monkeys.
As ever, we're focusing on a few of the lesser-known films from this particular year, and we've had to think carefully about what's made the cut and what hasn't.

We delve into the first book from new publisher Read Only Memory - an exhaustive document from the UK’s Sensible Software...
If you were playing games in the 80s and 90s, it’s likely that you played something by the UK’s Sensible Software. You may have enjoyed the classic Wizball - perhaps not even realising that Sensible Software programmed it. You may remember its puckish sense of humour, as demonstrated in such games as Sim Brick, an amusing parody given away free on the cover of Amiga Power.
It’s equally likely, though, that you’ll remember Sensible Software for the string of games that really made their name in the early 90s: Mega Lo Mania, Sensible Soccer and Cannon Fodder. Although very different in terms of gameplay, each game was united by their pace and addictive qualities, their slick programming and presentation,...

I’m not a TV producer — I just criticize them on the Internet. But putting my patented brand of bitchery aside for a second, I’ll admit it’s got to be tough to strike the right balance of good singing, emotional backstory and judges’ chatter during the audition rounds of a reality competition series.
That said, Episode 4 of The Voice‘s fifth season was one of those recipes that goes sideways from the first step: Maybe somebody didn’t leave the cake out in the rain, but the finished product sure was tear-streaked and a little bit soggy.
Not that there wasn’t talent,...

Three years ago Israel exploded on to the horror scene with Aharon Keshales and Navot Papushado’s Rabies (Kalevet). The success of that film has seemingly opened the flood gates for filmmakers in the country to explore even more horrific themes and so we have the Israel’s very first zombie movie, Cannon Fodder.
The film follows security operative Doron as he takes on one last mission: to go to Lebanon and capture Number 3 in the terrorist organisation of Hezbollah. With an elite force behind him, Doron soon discovers that reality is not so simple. A new and unknown enemy is to be dealt with – and Hezbollah are the last thing on his mind. Doron has to deal with a ticking clock in the form of extensive Israeli Defense Force attack and a ravening,...

Israel takes one bloodthirsty step further into genre filmmaking, with the FrightFest announcement that the festival will feature not only one Israeli film, but two.The first one is the much talked about thriller Big Bad Wolves by Aharon Keshales and Navot Papushado. For a country that just three years ago had practically zero genre films, two in the same festival is quite the leap.Cannon Fodder is an independent action horror film directed by Eitan Gafny, which has already toured more than a few international festivals, but only now lands its first major one. The movie takes a fun poke at the basic "Israeli...
