The ABCs of Death 2 now officially has a release date and it is just in time for Halloween. The film will be released by Magnet and Drafthouse Films on VOD on October 2nd and a limited theatrical run a few weeks later on the 31st .
The sequel is a follow-up to 2012’s horror anthology The ABCs of Death and, like its predecessor, will contain 26 short horror films by some of the genre’s greatest minds. As expected with so many shorts, the original was a bit of a mixed bag. There were certainly some incredible shorts like D is for Dogfight directed by Marcel Sarmiento, T is for Toilet by Lee Hardcastle, U is for Unearthed by Ben Wheatley, X is for Xxl by Xavier Gens, and the disgusting L is for Libido by Timo Tjahjanto. Several stills have been released for the upcoming horror anthology ABCs of Death 2. The stills show a severed head, a screaming witch and other harrowing characters. The ABCs of Death 2 will release later this year and the film features twenty-five directors. The entire director list is below. As well, the film will tell twenty-six short tales. Fans of the series can preview the release here. Story details for the film have not been released. However, this sequel will be similar to the original, in that each letter of the alphabet will celebrate another tale of death. The four stills hosted here are from four of those tales. Hajime Ohata (Henge), Alejandro Brugues (Juan of the Dead), Julian Gilbey (A Lonely Place to Die) and Erik Matti are each represented. And, each still shows a small tidbit from this, sure to be, very large film. A still from Hajime Ohata's short film.

Hot on the heels of their ambitious horror anthology The ABCs Of Death, Drafthouse producers Ant Timpson and Tim League decided that the world needed another collection of horror shorts spanning every letter of the alphabet – and adventurous horror fans much like myself rejoiced. The ABCs Of Death 2 was greenlit, the directors were selected, and the inevitable waiting game began.
I tried on numerous occasions to extract as much information as possible from contributing artists – Jerome Sable, Aharon Keshales, Navot Papushado were tight-lipped in our interviews – but it looks like Magnet and Drafthouse are ready to start opening the floodgate of horrors hiding amidst these 26 short stories that are ready to shock, scare, and revolt viewers in ways the original didn’t dare.

Whether you liked The ABCs Of Death or not, it was pretty hard to believe a franchise wasn’t being born in the same way V/H/S took off. The formula is simple: give 26 different directors one letter from the alphabet each, give them a $5,000 budget, and let them create a short film centering around a death. While the process of putting everything together is grueling I’m sure, the effort for our directors is rather minimal compared to feature filmmaking, and it’s pretty safe to say one of these films can be churned out every year.
Now that everyone’s had a chance to see The ABCs Of Death, producers Ant Timpson and Tim League are already gearing fans up for The ABCs Of Death 2, releasing the entire list of directorial participants for their upcoming sequel. I know, I feel like I just watched the first one yesterday,...

Horror fans and sickos rejoice – the production team behind The ABCs of Death 2, the sequel to the 2012 compilation hit, has announced that they have a a full directorial roster in place to bring audiences 26 more gruesome stories. The original film took a horror director and assigned them a letter of the alphabet, then let them use their disgusting, fantastic brains to do whatever they pleased with that chapter. For example, in last year’s edition, director Michael Sarmiento offered up “D is for Dogfight” for his chapter. In a departure from the original, The ABCs of Death 2 is adding directors to the roster that aren’t necessarily from the horror world: Julian Barratt (The Mighty Boosh), Todd Rohal (The Catechism Catalysm), Steven Kostanski (Manborg), Alejandro Brugués (Juan of the Dead), Jim Hosking (a UK commerical director), Hajime Ohata (Henge), and Chris Nash (Skinfections). Monster Fest starts this week in Melbourne Australia, and to celebrate this disgustingly dazzling degradation of cinema we'd like to give some Aussie fanatics the chance to win 4 double passes to the Faff (Fantastic Asia Film Fest) Sunday (4th of November) lineup, with thanks to Monster Pictures and Cinema Nova. That's right freaky folk, your choice of three feisty cutting-edge picks from Japan for your viewing pleasure.Zomvideo, a wonderfully twisted satire on the tired zombie apocalypse scenario that will have you in stitches, Henge/The Big Gun, a body horror short-film collection from up and coming director Hajime Ohata and lastly but not least-ly, Dead Sushi, from the super-disturbed Iguchi, a Twitch darling if there ever was one.To get your paws on a pass to see one...

Director Hajime Ohata has a double dose of talent on display with his two films The Big Gun and Henge. Both were made ambitiously on microscopic budges, swapping story for effects in a way that makes everything richer and scarier. When blood does start flowing it only magnifies the dread bubbling under the surface of the works. With short running times, the films get in and do what they need to do, leaving chaos in their wake as Ohata moves to his next horizon. The Big Gun tells the story of a group of machine shop workers down on their luck. In hard economic times they scrape to get by. When a group of gangers pay a visit asking the workers to make cheap guns, it is hard for them to turn them away. They accept the offer, and the baggage that comes with it. The short film runs on brooding menace building quietly so that by...

One of the greatest film festivals on the face of the planet, Fantastic Fest in Austin Texas, has unveiled their award winners for 2012, and it's quite an impressive list to say the least. Read on to see who's taking home some fantastic memories!
From the Press Release
Fantastic Fest is thrilled to announce this year's Fantastic Fest Award winners. It's a terrible task to pick favorites and single out any of the magnificent films that played at this year's festival, but our esteemed team of jurors have done the nearly impossible and chosen the best and most striking films of the festival.
The audience awards are presented by accounting firm Maxwell Locke & Ritter, who provided the certified tabulation of ballots this year and are the exclusive accounting sponsor of Fantastic Fest. I doubt that the "in sickness and in health" line of wedding vows was written with demonic, mutant transformations in mind. But, as director Hajime Ohata shows, sometimes them's the breaks. Indeed, Henge establishes its love of body horror right off the bat, but it soon sets itself apart from other entries in the genre. With this tale of wife and very sick husband, Ohata has not only delivered one of the most delightfully absurd films I've seen this year, but also managed to tell a love story that is, at times, genuinely touching. Kazunari Aizawa and Aki Morita play a young married couple who seem like they would be happy enough, if only Aizawa wasn't having a violent, spasm-inducing stroke every other day. The...

The second wave of genre films slotted to play this year’s Fantastic Fest has been unleashed upon the masses. Among the the are two of the year’s most anticipated films, Looper and Sinister. Continue reading for the films announced and a brief plot synopsis of each… but, do so at your own risk! (The inconceivable awesomeness of Fantastic Fest may be too much for some to handle. Those unaccustomed to this level of awesomeness should refrain from indulging in such films without first consulting your physician to verify you are in fact an adult with adventurous taste and not still just a sniveling, winy brat.)

It’s hard to believe that in a month and two days that Michael & I, along with two other writers from St. Louis, will be making our annual 14 hour drive to Austin, Texas for one of our favorite things/times of the year, Fantastic Fest. This will mark my 3rd year covering the festival and Michael’s 2nd year. The press release has been released on what will be playing at the festival and I think I can honestly say that the selection feels like it might top last year. We got some more hits off our picks of what we thought might play this year as well.

Fantastic Fest is truly a unique event. There’s plenty of room for arthouse films and, on some occasions, the big awards players, but one theater that hosts There Will Be Blood might, the next night, see the premiere of something you’d catch on a weird cable station at 3 A.M. You don’t get that at Venice.
Such a programming mentality is reflected in the second set of titles: We have Leos Carax‘s acclaimed Holy Motors, Rian Johnson‘s Looper, horror anthology The ABCs of Death (as if it could premiere anywhere else), Sinister, and a whole batch of films I’d never heard of up until now. It’s wonderfully eclectic, and it only makes me wish I could be there come late September.
See the lineup below:

We know what you're thinking because we're thinking the same exact thing: Just what the hell is a Henge? The short answer... we don't have the slightest idea, but after watching this latest trailer for it, one thing is incredibly clear - we don't ever want it to happen to us.
Henge, directed by Hajime Ohata and starring Kazunari Aizawa, Aki Morita and Teruhiko Nobukuni, was released in Japan this past March, and there's no word yet on when we'll see this film Stateside. Still, the trailer is bat-shit crazy enough for us to share with you loonies. Dig on the logline below and check out the goods! More on this one as it comes.
