Hope Gape is a cove on the south-east of the UK. “It’s where I went as a child,” Shadowlands, Gladiator and Les Miserables scribe William ‘Bill’ Nicholson tells me. “It was a place to be alone. “When the waves recede it leaves a vast expanse like the surface of the moon. It was like a secret world where you’re like a giant or a god. It was a place of escape, otherness.”
Hope Gap is also the name and location of Nicholson’s second feature as a writer-director. Bill Nighy, Annette Bening and Josh O’Connor star in the UK drama about the unraveling of a family unit after a father tells his son he plans on leaving his mother. Producers are Sarada McDermott (Fighting With My Family) and David M. Thompson (Woman In Gold).
Currently in post-production, the feature is a deeply personal one for the two-time Oscar nominated screenwriter.

A lot of people know actress Q'Orianka Kilcher from her scene-stealing turn in director Terrence Malick's "The New World" (2005), but what a lot of people don't know is that the 22-year-old actress is Latina.
The Huffington Post caught up with the lovely actress this week to talk about her new role as a Latina juvenile delinquent in the movie "Firelight" (which premiered last night on ABC), her Latin roots, and why she's learning Español.
We know your part-Latina. What are your Latin roots?
My father’s Peruvian! I actually have a lot of family in Cusco. I’m also Swiss, Alaskan, French, Spanish and Italian. I was in Peru last year and hopefully I’m going to get to go again soon!
Do you speak Spanish?
I’m re-learning it, actually. When I was little, I used to speak it all of the time--It was my first language. But I ended up forgetting it,...

Working with, and learning from, other established actors has proved useful for Cuba Gooding Jr.
The "Jerry Maguire" Oscar winner makes a rare television appearance Sunday, April 22, in ABC's fact-inspired new Hallmark Hall of Fame drama "Firelight."
In playing Dwayne "DJ" Johnson, a counselor at a correctional facility for young women, Gooding is teamed with a number of actresses just starting to make names for themselves ... a situation he says he knew how to handle from his experiences with such stars as Laurence Fishburne (in "Boyz N the Hood"), Dustin Hoffman ("Outbreak") and "Jerry Maguire" himself, Tom Cruise.
"They are real artists, and they allow you to create without stifling your creativity," Gooding tells Zap2it. "That was the main lesson I took from them. Making 'Outbreak' with Dustin and Morgan Freeman and Kevin Spacey, we really kind of sang when we were on the set together. It...

Each time the "Hallmark Hall of Fame" presents a new movie I marvel at their choices. For each time they select a story that is uplifting to the audience and wonderfully entertaining as well. Their latest presentation is Firelight and it is another solid and uplifting movie. It is time for America to tune in to these shows, as more indifference on its part might cause us to lose this sacred venue.
Firelight is based on the life of Dwayne Johnson, known as DJ in the film. DJ (Cuba Gooding, Jr) is a youth counselor in a detention center for girls. He really cares about those whose path he crosses. In the movie it is all about his relationship with two of the young women, Terry (DeWanda Wise) and Caroline (Q'orianka Kilcher).
The film shows how Terry meets Caroline on her first day at the facility and immediately begins to help her adjust.
