Cameron Crowe and Tom Cruise reteamed, following Jerry Maguire, on Vanilla Sky. It's a film with far fewer fans...
This article contains spoilers for Vanilla Sky.
Memorable moments - it seemed to be what Cameron Crowe had a knack for creating. Lloyd Dobler stood with a ghetto blaster held aloft in Say Anything, the 'Show me the money' or 'You had me at hello' scenes from Jerry Maguire, the singalong of Tiny Dancer or the imminent plane crash in Almost Famous. It also seemed Cameron Crowe could do no wrong on the wave of the success of those films, but then there came a film which, instead of creating memorable moments, everybody seemed to want to forget all about.
In 2001, Cameron Crowe made the much maligned Vanilla Sky.
It seemed to really rub people up the wrong way upon release. Was this because it wasn't what they...

‘Training Day’ Review: Antoine Fuqua’s Film in Title Only, This Good Cop, Bad Cop Routine Is Old Hat
To avoid any suspense, “Training Day” is not a strict, nor worthy, adaptation of Antoine Fuqua’s film. It’s barely a loose interpretation of the moral battle between a young, principled police officer and a corrupt veteran detective. Bill Paxton — while not trying to channel Denzel in any way — does elevate his character beyond convention, making his scenes fun, engaging, and earnest, even when they’re under siege from ennui-evoking familiarities. But even if using “fun” as a descriptor wasn’t enough to tip you off, without anything or anyone of equal excitement to match his talents, the latest CBS cop show fails to make a case for its existence.

The paths of Ben Stiller and writer/director Mike White (“School Of Rock,” “Enlightened“) have criss-crossed in the most curious of ways. The actor has made cameo appearances in “Orange County” and the “Freaks & Geeks” episode “The Little Things,” which both have writing credits by White (and were both directed by Jake Kasdan, incidentally) but nothing […]

Over the weekend, Dominic Lalli of Big Gigantic took to Twitter to announce that a new album from the group is in the final stages of completion, revealing that it should be done in just a few weeks’ time. 2016 has seen the duo releasing a lot of new material, such as their collab with GRiZ on “C’Mon” and “The Little Things” with Angela McCluskey, though it’s unknown if these songs will make it onto the album.
Got just a couple weeks left to finish the new @BigGigantic album!! Everything coming along So Gooooood can’t wait to share it with You!!

It’s been quite some time since livetronica duo Big Gigantic bestowed new music upon their fans. They clearly haven’t lost their touch, though, as evidenced by what they’ve offered up in the form of “The Little Things.”
The Boulder, Co-based outfit spared no expense in putting together something grandiose for the track that would break their unofficial release hiatus. Angela McCluskey’s rich vocals make for a fitting accompaniment to the jazzy, largely instrumental Big Gigantic style, with effervescent synth work emphasizing each exhilarating peak.
By the look of it, “The Little Things” is but a sign of more to come from the duo as well. Shortly before releasing the track, they teased a totally separate collaboration with vocalist Jennifer Hartswick in the following post to their Facebook page:
Can’t wait for this track with the amazinggggg Jennifer Hartswick!!!

The closer we get to WWE 2K16’s release date, the better the game sounds.
While WWE 2K14 was an unadulterated success story on so many levels, last year’s instalment in the WWE/2K franchise was a huge let down. Certain features were inexplicably left out while the whole look and feel of the game looked a little… rushed. Let’s not be too harsh on the current game’s developers however, as they only realistically had less than a year to build the current gen versions of the game from scratch!
This year, there appears to have been a conscious effort to see the return of those features that didn’t make the cut.
We’ve basically heard all we need to hear about the new title, all WWE and 2K need to do at this point is release the full list of matches we can...

Being a girl is difficult: boys have it so easy in comparison that sometimes you wish that you could cut out the drama and just be a dude; but then you instantly change your mind because you remember that you’d have to live with an actual penis and most of us do that already.
Having a busy schedule can mean that you sometimes miss out on a lot of the big things; whether it’s a catch up with friends or that date that you’ve had to rearrange so many times that you’re glad he’s still sticking around, therefore embrace the many little things that we have to look forward to in our hours of consciousness.
The little things really do matter and this is across all aspects of life – from relationships to getting the last bit of chocolate cake – it matters! So why not take...

A few weeks ago, I was idly browsing a store that carried everything from as-seen-on-tv products to Halloween costumes on deep discount. I didn’t really expect to find anything worth purchasing, but just as a bored salesperson mumbled in my general direction that everything in the store was 30% off, I came upon an aisle with Doctor Who merchandise and figured a quick perusal couldn’t hurt. It was all stuff I’d seen before, mostly Tardis hats, scarves, lunchboxes, and keychains, but then a rack of random packs of micro figures caught my eye. I already had two such micro figures on my desk at home, a Centurion Rory and a Tenth Doctor that had both been gifts, and I liked the idea of getting an Eleventh Doctor or an Amy Pond to join them. But as I thought about making my first micro figure purchase, I realized that...

This article deals with nothing major – no wars or natural disasters or murders or conspiracies – just those mundane little annoyances that plague our everyday lives.
The little things that leave you cursing under your breath or disrupting that small allocated time of relaxation in your busy schedule – little things that wind you up so frequently you’ve forgotten how irritating they actually are. Because believe it or not, the corner of the bed sheet constantly pings off not just for you, but for every bed user in the entire freakin’ world.

Theatre Review: ‘The Phantom of the Opera’ Returns With Ingénue Julia Udine, Enigmatic Cooper Grodin
Chicago – The Phantom in one word? An enigma. But he’s so much more. He’s lonely, desperately in love, a musical genius, misunderstood, vengeful, afraid and angry at a world that was so cruel to him. His shining beacon out of the darkness is his music – and falling for Christine. But The Phantom has to try to force her to feel the same way. He doesn’t want your pity. He just wants to be musical, loved and understood.
Play Rating: 4.5/5.0

Awards season is On, everyone. And even though most of the “unscripted” bits of tonight’s People’s Choice Awards were totally and completely scripted and rehearsed, it was a good warm up for the shows coming up in the next three months. In case you skipped out on the show assuming it was just going to be another excuse for CBS to promote its shows (how dare you!), we’ve gathered the best jokes, flirtatious banter and bad dancing by hosts Kat Dennings and Beth Behrs of 2 Broke Girls, along with Heidi Klum, Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev, and more.
1. “I have so many boobies.” Oh, man, was that 2 Broke Girls-set opener long and full of bad line readings from the likes of Christina Aguilera and, oh, the stars of 2 Broke Girls. But the Ian Somerhalder cameo got some screams. Later, when dozens of waitresses streamed into the audience...

With his debut novel, Meat, Joseph D'Lacey burst onto the horror scene with a novel that prompted Stephen King to exclaim, "D'Lacey rocks!" We recently got to sit down with Joseph to talk about his career and the return of both Meat and Garbage Man via a brand new publisher.
The first pertinent question for any professional wordsmith is exactly what got them into pursing creative endeavours for a living. For D'Lacey, the love for writing had always been there, but took time to fully blossom.
He mused, "I think I've always had a writer's nature, I suppose, and the thing for me was that I didn't really pursue it until later in life. I was probably around thirty, really, before it got started. Agoraphobics and astrophobics should probably stay far away from this one. The new trailer for Alfonso Cuaron’s Gravity is promising nothing short of the most pants pissing scenario ever put to the big screen. As if flying and crashing weren’t bad enough, a new precedent has been set: floating off into the vast expanse of space and freezing, starving or asphyxiating. Sounds like a contender for one of the worst ways to die this side of drowning in an alkali bath.
The film stars George Clooney and Sandra Bullock. And if it wasn’t painfully obvious from the trailer, the two astronauts are 372 miles above our pale blue dot. Unfortunately for them, space debris strikes their shuttle leaving them not only completely vulnerable to the elements, but also out of contact with mission command, and in a case of adding even more insult to injury, they have a dwindling air supply.

Freaks and Geeks Episode 17 ‘The Little Things’
Written by Jon Kasdan, Judd Apatow, and Mike White
Directed by Jake Kasdan
Aired 7/8/2000 on NBC
Although its clearly a truncated story line, the immediacy with which Sam and Cindy’s relationship falls apart in ‘The Little Things’ (which aired immediately after ‘Smooching and Mooching’ in the summer of 2000) actually enhances the impact it leaves on both its characters – and sets the table very nicely for ‘The Little Things’, an episode about facing rejection and making bold choices, even if they’re really just the most logical option available. It’s really the one hour we get to spend a lot of time with Ken (save for his subplot pursuing Amy in ‘The Garage Door’) – and its one of the best episodes of the series, navigating a difficult plot and nailing the landing in one of the show’s rare happy moments.

Freaks and Geeks Episode 16 ‘Smooching and Mooching’
Written by Steve Barros
Directed by Jake Kasdan
Aired 7/8/2000 on NBC
By the time the script for ‘Smooching and Mooching’ was broken in the writer’s room, the writing was on the wall for Freaks and Geeks. Knowing they only had three episodes left to work with, they attempted to cram as much into those episodes as possible – especially ‘Smooching and Mooching’, an episode that pales in comparison to its counterparts, mostly because there’s just too much going on for it all to be effective. It’s a melange of great scenes and performances, no doubt (headlined by Jason Segel and John Francis Daley), but it’s clear that the script tries to pull in one too many directions to really be effective.
The bit that really doesn’t work for me is Bill’s diatribe against Vicki during their ‘Seven Minutes...

Former NFL Football stud Tiki Barber confessed, “My New Year’s resolution was to get back in the gym and start working out.

The 30 year old, who's posed for Playboy three times and is married to plastic surgeon Dr. Lenny Hochstein (known as the "Boob God"), might be simplifying matters slightly. She admits she's been lean her whole life, and taking care of her body certainly informs her daily routine.
"I try to work out four days a week," she tells The Huffington Post Canada, describing a routine that alternates between thighs and triceps, glutes, hamstrings and quadriceps, and abs and calves every day.
A lifetime of dance — she trained in ballet and jazz — and a love of pilates makes the 5"4, 110-pound self-described housewife a...

Welcome to the first-ever edition of the Nashville Round Table!
Following a great series premiere, TV Fanatic staff members Matt Richenthal, Dan Forcella, Leigh Raines and Carissa Pavlica can't wait to spend more time in Music City. Join in their discussion below as the panel breaks down the show's main feud, music and insults...
----------------------------------
What was your favorite musical moment from the premiere?
Matt: Yes, "If I Didn't Know Better" is the obvious choice. But considering my wife immediately jumped online and downloaded the entire Civil Wars album after seeing the performance, it has to be my selection.
Dan: Since Scarlett's performance at the Bluebird is the obvious choice, I will go with Rayna's performance at the Opry. It's ultimate country music performance, so it was nice to see them jump right out of the gates with a performance there.
Leigh: I think Scarlett was genuinely talented. I found...

There are a few fan favorites from the VHS era that are favorites solely because of they are completely indicative of the VHS boom in the mid 80’s. One movie that would qualify for this distinction would be Terror on Tape. It’s got one of the sexiest covers in the history of media packaging and is ripe for the nostalgic horror fan who sees a VHS tape being squeezed by a monster hand as a symbol of their own frustration and adoration for this somewhat lost medium (somewhat lost because it’s making a creeping comeback). Comet Video and Continental (same thing different name) put this one out as a sort of advertisement for the titles that Continental was distro-ing. Little did they know that the film itself would take on its own life as a piece of iconographic advertising. It’s a collection of short clips from some...

Re-releasing your hardware with just a slight physical upgrade is not a new thing; the practice dates back to the days of the Atari 2600 and the Intellivision. Not much has changed with modern day gaming – just ask Nintendo, who have become famous (infamous?) for updating their systems without really adding any new features, particularly their handhelds. The 3Ds is the latest handheld to fall victim to the upgrade gods, this time it's been super-sized, and re-branded as the 3Ds Xl.
When the 3Ds was released last March, it was not without its flaws, but I doubt most people thought, "you know what's really wrong here, it's too small." Yet, somehow, Nintendo managed to make their 3Ds bigger, and turn it into a more enjoyable version of itself with the 3Ds Xl.
While many people are clearly fans of the 3Ds (some five million plus in the U.S. alone), it...

In a scene from September 11 2001, Mac (Gary Sinise) cuts himself shaving and Claire (Jaime Ray Newman) calls 911 for help, as a joke (she doesn't really call - they're just fooling around like a married couple). Mac's taking John to the opera: that's John from the robbery squad. She then sees two tickets to the opera behind her. Claire: "What would you do without me?" What he's always done before they met and after he lost her, muddle through somehow, with his mind on the job and getting no sleep whatsoever. The radio reports on September 11 2011, the tenth anniversary of the attacks. "We will never forget." At the lab, Adam (Aj Buckley) calls Jo (Sela Ward) 'boss.' She corrects him, she's "interim boss" until Sinclair finds a replacement for Mac. In the meantime, she puts Mac's nameplate back on his desk. Adam reminds us he's been gone four months. Danny...

In "Chuck Versus the Hack Off" two characters felt like they were getting sucked back into something they had tried desperately to get away from in the first place. Chuckles didn't like getting back into the business of working for manipulative CIA head honchos, and Radzinsky* was deathly afraid of getting back into the evil tech device game.
* The character played by Eric Lange was not important enough to be referred to by anything but Radzinsky...the actor's character on Lost.
Thankfully, it looks like neither character will have to deal with such issues ever again. Radzinsky will likely head back to his naked yoga cult in the woods, while Chuck will never have to take another order from the likes of Decker... unless technology advances to the point that a man can get blown back together by a reverse bomb.

I’ve finally got around to watching the trailer for Cameron Crowe’s new movie We Bought A Zoo (usually I would have been straight there but it’s been a busy 24 hours!) and I’m basically grinning from ear to ear through every second it plays. I can feel myself falling for it already. I love Cameron Crowe movies. I love how they make me feel, his idealistic views on life, how he mixes the sweet with the sour, how the character’s in his movie live through some really messed up and dark situations but with support and a helping hand come out stronger on the other side. I love how he makes the small things feel really big.
He says it best through Tom Cruise in a moment that gives me goosebumps each time I watch Vanilla Sky;
“The little things… there’s nothing bigger, is there?...

When it comes to last night’s season-ender, True Blood was what it always is: a mixed bag. Anyone who wasn’t clued into the “shocking” death of Tara by her and Sookie’s chat in the kitchen earlier in the episode is probably often caught off guard by such things as gravity and noon coming at the same time every day. Even on a show that is about as subtle as a baseball bat to the head, this plot point was telegraphed from a mile away. Other final-moment twists ran the gamut from random (Reverend Steve popping up) to unexpected (the gloriously gory demise of Nan) to intriguing (even a tease of Russell rising from the grave was more interesting than the wrap-up of the witches vs. vampires plot). By the time the episode was over, I realized exactly what keeps me coming back to this series despite a...

Destroy All Movies! That’s the cheeky theme to the 12th annual Melbourne Underground Film Festival, which will run on August 19-28.
Festival director Richard Wolstencroft lays out his philosophy for this year’s Muff in an excellent Director’s Statement, which is published in the fest’s program guide. He explains his provocative statement as thus:
“Destroy All Movies” can be taken as a query, a question and even a complaint about cinema itself. Most of us love movies. I still do, of course. I am obsessed by them as ever. Making, watching and showing them. But how often do we question our passion in this kind of ontological sense?
In that regard, Muff is a much more focused and scaled back event this year with less films screening, but with a tighter consideration of local talent, as well as a larger, more provocative stance as ever.

Boy meets girl. Girl loves boy. Boy realises girl has power to control other people's destinies simply by moving pieces of furniture around the house... Wait, what? Neil McGregor's The Little Things certainly doesn't adhere to the format of the typical cinematic love story. The director describes his feature debut as a deconstruction of the superhero genre in the style of an indie-love story. "With so many films that have jumped on the superhero franchise bandwagon over the last decade, this was a story that hadn't been told in this way before. That's what attracted me, along with these characters who, in some way, had their own lives partly controlled by a greater force.

While many may think drama only happens on screen, up-and-coming Aussie filmmaker, Jacob Livermore - who acted as producer on the mini-budget Aussie feature The Little Things - can attest to the fact that when it comes to filmmaking, drama is just as bountiful off-screen too. In the first few days of shooting his latest short film, How to Make a Monster, Livermore and his cast and crew have experienced their share of minor disasters - a flooded set from a burst storm water pipe and a backed up toilet, torrential rain and a case of accidental grand-theft auto.
