Jon Cryer has proved himself a marketable quantity in the network sitcom game, a success most recently reflected in his starring role on the new NBC and Peacock show “Extended Family.”
Cryer, in an interview on the “Wtf With Marc Maron” podcast, recalled a key effort that helped cement that status — his part on the hit Charlie Sheen-starring sitcom “Two and a Half Men.”
Cryer said he remembered how Sheen’s role came together and how CBS played a big part.
“CBS wanted Charlie Sheen on the air so badly, and you could sense that,” Cryer said. “Based on, he had done ‘Spin City’ for a couple of seasons, and everybody was like, ‘Wow, he’s really good.’ Cause he took over for Michael J. Fox, and everybody said, ‘That is a bad idea.’ And then he turned out to be good on the show, with a totally different character.

Tom Johnson, a writer and stand-up comic with credits including “The Daily Show” and “The Jeselnik Offensive,” has died at the age of 55.
In a statement Friday, his family said he died at his home “Peacefully and unexpectedly” on Jan. 14. No cause of death has been made public.
“Growing up,” the family wrote in their statement, Johnson “had an insatiable curiosity. He was talented in all of the arts: a gifted artist who could draw in vivid detail, played the guitar and trombone, and acted in plays throughout college at the University of Missouri. He loved the band Kiss and enjoyed dressing up like the lead singer for Halloween.”

Jack Nicholson hasn’t acted since James L. Brooks’ 2010 feature “How Do You Know,” but that doesn’t mean there aren’t plenty of people who would love to see him on the big or small screen again. Those people include Brooks, who famously worked with the actor previously on the 1983 film “Terms of Endearment” (and secured him an Oscar. In a recent interview with TheWrap celebrating the 40th anniversary of “Terms,” the director said he doesn’t believe Nicholson is retired.
“I don’t think he’s retired,” Brooks said. “I don’t buy that he’s retired.”
“I remember there was once a friend of mine who one of these raging, alcoholic-driven arguments [with me] about who was the greatest actor at the time,” Brooks said. “This was at Dustin Hoffman’s height and everything like that. I’m saying Jack Nicholson. He’s saying Dustin Hoffman.”

It’s been 13 years since Jack Nicholson appeared in “How Do You Know,” a dud of a romantic comedy starring Reese Witherspoon, Paul Rudd and Owen Wilson.
While the supporting role wasn’t the high point of Nicholson’s career — and brought the Hollywood legend to nearly 80 total acting credits — it did little to diminish a legacy that features a formidable if not unmatchable roll call of cinema classics that includes “The Departed” (2006), “The Shining” (1980), “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” (1975) and “Chinatown” (1974), among others.
And though he never announced his retirement, the film by all accounts will be his last. One of those accounts surfaced in the “Wtf With Marc Maron” podcast this week, during a wide-ranging interview with famed record producer, Sunset Strip impresario and longtime Nicholson friend Lou Adler.

Disney's streak of live-action remakes continues, and one we're looking forward to is the upcoming film "Snow White," a revival of 1937's "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs." The original "Snow White" was Disney's first animated feature film and, adjusted for inflation, is one of the highest-grossing animated films of all time. The new version stars Rachel Zegler as the titular heroine, with Gal Gadot joining her as the Evil Queen intent on being the fairest of them all.
The movie is directed by Marc Webb and wrapped filming in the summer of 2022, though Walt Disney Studios revealed on Oct. 27 that fans will have to wait until 2025 to see it. Besides that, not a whole lot is known about the film, though the team behind it have teased that there will be some pretty big differences between the original and the new one.

On Thursday’s episode of the “Wtf With Marc Maron” podcast, “Dicks: The Musical” director Larry Charles opened up about why he steers clear of working on big-budget movies.
“I try to make things like ‘Dangerous Comedy’ or this movie [‘Dicks: The Musical’] — this movie’s a very low-budget movie,” Charles said of the raunchy A24 musical. “Politically for me, ethically for me, I find it offensive when movies cost $250 million and the world is in the state that it’s in. So I’m also looking to make a statement in the way these things are made.”
Charles, known for his directorial collaborations with Sacha Baron Cohen and his work on such sitcoms as “Curb Your Enthusiasm” and “Seinfeld,” slammed the Hollywood studio system, calling it a “media monopoly system” in the United States.

George Clooney was one of Hollywood's most eligible bachelors for years. But that all changed when the Oscar winner met and fell hard for his now-wife, high-profile human-rights lawyer Amal Clooney (née Alamuddin). Not only is George a married man, but he's also a dad to two kids.
George and Amal got married in a ceremony in Venice, Italy, in 2014, and the latter gave birth to their fraternal twins, Alexander and Ella, in June 2017. Though George is known for starring in dozens of Hollywood productions, including "Ocean's Eleven," "Up in the Air," "Gravity," and "Ticket to Paradise," his roles as a husband and father are the ones closest to his heart. "In marriage, and now with the kids, you give away the selfishness of only looking out for yourself," George told People in 2020. "It's a wonderful thing. Amal and I talk about it every day. . . . Tituss Burgess, in an expansive and emotional interview with Marc Maron on Monday’s “Wtf” podcast, revealed for what appeared to be the first time that he was “molested repeatedly” by one of his uncles as a child growing up outside Athens, Georgia.
“I didn’t come on here and think we were going to talk about this,” the Emmy nominee and “Schmigadoon!” star admitted, exhaling through nervous laughter. He then launched into his “earliest memories” of his biological father, who was largely absent from his life.
“My dad was not there, but my dad was always no more than 15 minutes away from us,” Burgess said. “My earliest memories of him when I would call him in an attempt to connect were, uh, he would bring one of his girlfriends over in his two-seater Corvette, and I would end up in my uncle’s house while they went out, where I was molested repeatedly.

Following a meeting with its board of governors on Tuesday, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences said today that it won’t revoke British actress Andrea Riseborough’s surprise Oscar nomination as Best Actress for her low-budget indie feature “To Leslie” in the wake of concerns that her grassroots Academy Awards campaign may have violated academy rules. But in upholding the nom, it noted in a statement sent to media today by film academy CEO Bill Kramer that the review discovered “social media and outreach campaigning tactics that caused concern” and that “these tactics are being addressed with the responsible parties directly.”
The backlash to Riseborough’s nomination largely surrounded the unorthodox fashion in which a group of Hollywood A-list performers enthusiastically stumped on social media and at unofficial gatherings for the actress’s candidacy of their own accord. They included Gwynyth Paltrow, Amy Adams, Judd Apatow, Ellen Barkin,...

“Apparently, the Academy of Motion Picture Sciences or whatever the fuck it is has decided to investigate Andrea Riseborough’s grassroots campaign to get her the Oscar nomination,” said Maron, “because I guess it so threatens their system to where they’re completely bought out by corporate interests in the form of studios.”
