Exclusive: Husband-and-wife duo Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick have landed roles together in a movie for the first time in two decades, with The King of Queens creator Michael J. Weithorn penning and directing Connescence.
Principal photography kicked off this week on the movie from Victoria Hill and Greg Clark’s Fibonacci Films, with Bacon and Sedgwick playing the leads, joined by White Lotus star Brittany O’Grady and Oscar-nominated The Fabelmans actor Judd Hirsch.
Bacon plays Stan Olszewski, a sharp, funny, but chronically underachieving security guard, who breaks up an attempted robbery at the home of Cynthia Rand (Sedgwick), a successful urologist married to brilliant former Watergate prosecutor Warren Rand (Judd Hirsch). From this chance encounter grows a charged and dynamic friendship – first as late-night text sessions filled with humor and intimate revelations, growing into something that shakes the foundation of both their lives.

Singer-songwriter Mariah Carey has posted some Instagram shots reminiscent of her ‘Dreamlover’ music video look from 30 years ago. In the photos, Carey posed in a black-and-white flannel with her hair worn in long, soft waves pulled back on the sides, and also wore more natural makeup, reports People magazine.
“Homage to the Dreamlover video (sans the grassy fields),” the five-time Grammy winner, 54, captioned her photo series.
“Instantly transported back to 1993. You’re timeless Mc!” one follower wrote, while another chimed in: “This casual style looks so good on you!” For the ’90s video, Carey had worn a blue-and-white flannel knotted at the bottom revealing her midsection, paired with cuffed jean shorts and a chunky black belt with her hair in ringlets, tied in low pigtails.
As per People, crooning to the camera, the footage cut back and forth between Carey solo in a field, rolling in the grass and also...

Charlie’s Angels and its cast was a phenomenon in the 1970s. The TV series ran for five seasons from 1976-1981. It was produced by Aaron Spelling, who also created hits such as The Love Boat, Dynasty, Beverly Hills 90210, and Melrose Place.
The show was immensely popular with viewers but got mixed reviews from critics. Some called it “Jiggle TV” because it emphasized the sex appeal of its female cast.
Which Charlie’s Angels cast members are still alive?
What was ‘Charlie’s Angels’?

Mariah Carey is famous for topping the charts. In fact, she holds the record for the most number-one hits by a solo artist on the Billboard Hot 100 (19), and she became the first artist ever to hit number-one in four different decades. But of course no one can send every song they’ve recorded to the top of the charts. A number of Carey’s greatest hits didn’t reach the summit, but they belong in any discussion of her storied career. Scroll down for our countdown of her best non-chart-toppers.
Early in her career it was hard to find Carey singles anywhere but number-one. The first four from her very first album reached that position. The 1990s continued at that same pace: a whopping 14 of her chart leaders were released in that decade. The 2000s were less auspicious for her: she had career and tabloid trouble when her movie “Glitter” and its accompanying soundtrack underperformed.

Summer House Og Kyle Cooke admits that season 7 didn’t kick off like most summers they’ve spent in the Hamptons. The vibe was off, ranging from the sudden, awkward bedroom situation to his strained interaction with close friend Carl Radke.
“I think the mood was a little off,” he told Showbiz Cheat Sheet, reflecting on the first 24 hours in the Hamptons house. Cooke and wife Amanda Batula were greeted with a new bedroom configuration, which actually meant fewer bedrooms. Plus, Radke and girlfriend Lindsay Hubbard seemed distant and off.
Kyle Cooke says a ‘weird precedent’ was set for ‘Summer House’ newbies
Radke and Hubbard also suggested that everyone wake up early and hit a local boot camp class. “And then it’s a Saturday morning. People are waking up at 7 a.m. to go work out,” Cooke said. “I mean, that kind of sets a weird tone. It’s...

Patrick Dempsey is in talks with Spyglass to star in “Thanksgiving,” multiple media outlets have reported.
Yes, that’s Eli Roth’s “Thanksgiving,” a violent slasher film based on the fake trailer from Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez’s double feature “Grindhouse” from 16 years ago.
Chatter has existed about turning the jokey trailer into an actual movie, with Roth having written a screenplay over a dozen years ago. Fantasy became fact when Spyglass stepped in late last year to finance the picture, with shooting to begin in Toronto next month.
While plot details are mostly concealed, it is believed that Dempsey would play a small-town sheriff in Massachusetts who must fend off a holiday-specific murder spree.

Most people, cinephiles or not, know Carol Kane as Valerie, bossy wife to Billy Crystal’s Miracle Max in “The Princess Bride.” Her face may have been tough to recognize under all that old age make-up, but her distinctive warble is unmistakable, causing new generations to fall in love with her as Kimmy’s eccentric landlady Lillian in “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.”
But Kane wasn’t always the incomparable character actress we know and love today, and younger audiences may be surprised to learn that her early career included some more dramatic turns, most notably in her Oscar-nominated performance in Joan Micklin Silver’s 1975 masterpiece “Hester Street,” which is receiving renewed interest with a gorgeous 4k restoration from the Cohen Film Collection.

A leading figure of the Romanian New Wave, Cătălin Mitulescu has had a heralded career since winning the Palme d’Or for his 2004 short film “Traffic.” His first two features, “The Way I Spent the End of the World” (2006) and “Loverboy” (2011), both premiered in Cannes’ Un Certain Regard sidebar. He also co-produced and co-wrote the 2010 Berlin Silver Bear winner “If I Want to Whistle, I Whistle,” directed by Florin Șerban.

For some it’s not too hard to believe that Patrick Dempsey has always been someone that women desire, but back in the 80s he was more of a skinny kid that was kind of awkward-looking and was considered by some to be one of the luckiest men alive since the movie Loverboy was, without a doubt, a teenage fantasy. Like many such movies back in the day it wasn’t entirely believable since the whole idea of becoming a male escort in your teens and being able to woo and please so many women that were in need of male company

The Nora Ephron-directed romantic comedy Sleepless in Seattle turns 25 today. For Gary Foster, who first read the cross-country romantic comedy as a Jeff Arch spec script and fought for three years to keep its vision intact in the usual creative collisions of star-driven studio films, here provides an illuminating look at how a good spec evolved into a terrific movie.
On a hot Saturday afternoon in 1990, I sat down on a small couch in our baby daughter Kayla’s room to read a script entitled Sleepless in Seattle. Dave Warden, an agent representing a new writer named Jeff Arch, had submitted it to my company. I give most submissions 25 pages, and if I’m not in by that point, I put it down and pick up the next. That afternoon, I never noticed the 25-page mark. I zoomed right past it, drawn into this story about a widower, who...

“Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Tommy Wiseau’s The Room: The Broadway Musical” is the title of the production theater critics thankfully won’t have to review. The cast listing includes such titanic figures of Broadway as Patti LuPone in the role of Claudette, Lisa’s mother; Miranda himself and Javier Munoz as Peter/Steven, a psychologist; and Mark Rylance for the notorious Johnny, “an everyman.”
Selected song titles include “Half Canadian Bacon With Pineapple,...

If you are in your mid 30s or older and haven’t seen the movie Loverboy then you have some serious problems. It’s easily one of my favorite 80s movies of all-time (1989 to be exact) and actually hits home because I spent 3 summers as a pizza delivery boy. In any event it’s a comedy starring Patrick Dempsey as a college student trying to pay his tuition for college. He gets a job as a pizza delivery boy and like all pizza guy’s dreams, gets the ultimate pizza delivery order, a beautiful woman who wants more than just extra anchovies.

Patrick Dempsey has been in the spotlight for more than 30 years now, but we still can't get over how handsome he is. The 50-year-old actor first stole hearts with his roles in movies like Can't Buy Me Love, Mobsters, and Loverboy, but it wasn't until he became Dr. Derek Shepherd on Grey's Anatomy that our hearts really started pumping. Aside from his impressive acting career, Patrick is a devoted family man; he's been married to his wife, Jillian Fink, since 1999 (they briefly split last year), and is father to kids Talula, Sullivan, and Darby. Cheers to many more years of being able to stare into those McDreamy eyes!

Patrick Dempsey made a few waves at the Television Critics Association Summer 2013 press tour, talking about acting on "Grey's Anatomy" ("I'm an actor so that's my profession, my job") versus his real passion: racing cars ("I'm grateful I have the gig, but it's not the same as being in a race car"). But hear him out.
Dempsey is continuing a tradition of Hollywood leading men with a need for speed, from Steve McQueen to James Garner to Paul Newman. But he makes more headlines for his chosen second career because of the expense and competitiveness of the sport now, and his very high-profile other career on one of ABC's longest-running hit shows.
I caught up with Dempsey after his choice words during the panel to find out if he had any backpeddling to do, and to let him clarify exactly how much he appreciates the "Grey's" fans ... especially since, again,...

While the concept of the glamorous female escort is ever present in popular culture, the image of her male counterpart - a male escort who caters to women - has been pretty much nonexistent until recent years.
With the exception of the Richard Gere smash American Gigolo, one would be hard pressed to name a single film that deals with the subject of men who provide services of romance and companionship to women; unless it takes the form of some random comedy films--Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo, The Wedding Date, and Loverboy with Patrick Dempsey--or underground indie flicks such as Atom Egoyan's Speaking Parts, Just a Gigolo with David Bowie and The Man from Elysian Fields with Andy Garcia.

Overboard (1987)
Starring: Goldie Hawn, Kurt Russell, Edward Hermann
Writer: Leslie Dixon
Director: Garry Marshall
Review By: Eric King
Story:
A super hot/super bitchy heiress dumps workin’ man Dean Proffitt off her boat after he does a job that doesn’t meet her satisfaction. Later that night, she falls off the boat herself and suffers from amnesia. Her husband basically says “Fuck it! Party time!” and leaves her at the hospital. So, Dean develops a plan of revenge by convincing her that she’s his wife.
Review:
I wanna start off here by saying I am greatly appreciative to be given the privilege of bringing the sappiness to The Liberal Dead‘s Kurt Russell Appreciation Week. I jumped on this boat pretty late in the game, and Shawn Savage forewarned me as soon as he handed out the invitation that most of Russell’s iconic roles had already been taken.

Before he was McDreamy, Patrick Dempsey was a teen idol famous for "Can't Buy Me Love." That film is great and all, but it was his "Love" follow-up, titled "Loverboy," that really put Dempsey on the map -- at least for people like me, who watched the completely inappropriate sex comedy on HBO when they were kids. (Sorry, mom!)
"Loverboy" comes to mind while watching the new trailer for "Bel Ami," the Robert Pattinson-led adaptation of Guy de Maupassant's novel about a fallen solider who becomes a lady killer in France during the 19th century. Sexy times! Unfortunately, because it's 19th century Paris and not 1980s California, pizza delivery companies don't exist -- that means lovely ladies like Uma Thurman, Christina Ricci and Kristen Scott Thomas have to take a more traditional approach in their attempts to bed R-Pattz. No extra anchovies in this one.
As you'll see in the trailer,...

Trailers are an under-appreciated art form insofar that many times they’re seen as vehicles for showing footage, explaining films away, or showing their hand about what moviegoers can expect. Foreign, domestic, independent, big budget: I celebrate all levels of trailers and hopefully this column will satisfactorily give you a baseline of what beta wave I’m operating on, because what better way to hone your skills as a thoughtful moviegoer than by deconstructing these little pieces of advertising? Some of the best authors will tell you that writing a short story is a lot harder than writing a long one, that you have to weigh every sentence. What better medium to see how this theory plays itself out beyond that than with movie trailers? Taped Trailer I, like many other boys, went through a Patrick Dempsey phase when I was younger. It all started with Can't Buy Me Love...

There's about 350 things I'd rather do than watch Grey's Anatomy. If I feel the need to see something with Patrick Dempsey, I'll watch the 1989 classic Loverboy. Yes, I said classic. So it seems McSexypants or McNugget or whatever they call him on that show, is interested in playing the one and only Doctor Stephen Strange. A few days ago, Dempsey shared his thoughts with Hero Complex, .I.ve been lobbying for that. There.s a whole bunch of people [among the 'Grey's' crew] who are into...

Last year, Jennifer Grey — she who complained of a "possibly armed, certainly weird" intruder in "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" and proved that it truly is quite difficult to put Baby in a corner during "Dirty Dancing — pranced her way to victory on "Dancing With the Stars."
The latest cast for the ABC reality competition was announced on Monday night and again delivers a number of toe-tappers with cinematic credentials. From a crane-kicking New Jersey teen to the mother of a child whose inner monologue sounds suspiciously like Bruce Willis, "Dwts" will offer up a number of familiar faces to movie fans when the new season premieres on March 21. Read about them past the jump, and click the photo above for a trip down memory lane!

Well, well, well. I’m sure you’ve been on the edges of your sequined armchairs waiting for my reaction to the new Dwts cast. Sorry about the delay — I had to spend the entire day figuring out who the hell these people are. Just kidding! Google is easy. No, I spent much of the day seeking out the rumored Star-Pro pairings for season 12.
Sadly, Enthusiastic Activia Lady Jamie Lee Curtis could not find time in her busy schedule of eating yogurt and crafting paper bracelets to answer my late November prayers. Wtf, Eal?

First Patrick Dempsey nabbed a role in Transformers 3 as Megan Fox’s boss. Now comes the news that he’ll star in Flypaper, an action comedy indie penned by The Hangover scribes Jon Lucas and Scott Moore. According to Variety, the script “tells the tale of a bank that is robbed by two different groups of crooks at the same time. However, they both come under attack by a secret enemy (Dempsey), to save the bank teller whom he loves.” Assuming this has Hangover-style humor, this could be the most raucous thing Dempsey’s done since 1989′s Loverboy. It...

Have a question about gay male entertainment? Contact me here (and be sure and include your city and state and/or country!)
Q: Do you have any guilty pleasures when it comes to gay movies? I like the good ones (to me anyway) like Ciao and Guys and Balls. But there are some I like where the dialogue is terrible and the acting is very questionable: Angora Ranch and An Angel Named Billy. So do you have any you are brave enough to admit to liking? — Ed, London, Ontario, Canada
A: Do I have any guilty pleasures?!
First, yes, there are a few micro-budgeted gay films where the acting and production values are questionable, but that are still worth watching. I’m willing to forgive a lot if I get some sense that the actors and producers believe in what they’re doing, if they created an unintentional comedy, or if there's full-frontal male nudity.

I know he's a good-looking guy Now, but man this makes me chuckle. Only people who grew up in the '80s as ravenous movie freaks will see where I'm going with this, but ... Patrick Dempsey is now a sex symbol, thanks entirely to his work (and his look) on a very popular medical series that I've never seen. (I think it's called Boston Elsewhere E/R Mercy Anatomy Clinic.)
Before we continue, please know that this is not any sort of attack on Mr. Dempsey. Matter of fact, he's one of those actors I feel I kinda "grew up with," not unlike John Cusack, Robert Downey Jr., and Johnny Depp. (Yes, my generation produced talented actors. Deal with it.) On top of the fact that I enjoy Dempsey's on-screen antics, the guy now represents the ultimate geeky guy dream: to struggle and suffer through our awkward teen years, completely awash in nerdliness,...

Hollywood heartthrob Patrick Dempsey almost quit acting before he landed his comeback role in hit TV series Grey's Anatomy - because he was fed up with losing parts as a result of his dyslexia.
The actor made a name for himself in the 1980s starring in movies like Loverboy and Can't Buy Me Love, but his career faltered in the 1990s and he found himself constantly looking for his next big role.
But, despite attending numerous auditions, he kept losing out to his contemporaries because his disability left him struggling to easily read scripts.
And the 42-year-old had just given up trying to build a career in Hollywood when he landed the part of surgeon Dr. Derek 'McDreamy' Shepherd in medical drama Grey's Anatomy.
He says, "Because of my dyslexia I had to memorise all the dialogue for auditions. If I forgot it, I would then have to get over my frustration. If you constantly don't get the part it's very frustrating."...
