Jeannie Epper, the peerless, fearless stunt performer who doubled for Lynda Carter on Wonder Woman and swung on a vine across a 350-foot gorge and propelled down an epic mudslide as Kathleen Turner in Romancing the Stone, has died. She was 83.
Epper died Sunday night of natural causes at her home in Simi Valley, her family told The Hollywood Reporter.
Just one member of a dynasty of stunt performers that Steven Spielberg dubbed the “Flying Wallendas of Film” — starting with her father, John Epper, there have been four generations of Eppers in show business since the 1930s — she worked on 150-plus films and TV shows during an astounding 70-year career.

Tom Brady may be the greatest of all time, but his roast wasn’t. The thing is, it maybe could have been.
Netflix is all about eventizing these days, and probably the easiest way to do that — outside of sports rights — is live programming. Sunday’s “The Greatest Roast of All Time: Tom Brady,” had plenty of sports and too much live-ness for its own good.
The roast began at 8 p.m. Et/5 p.m. Pt, and proceeded to run, non-stop, for more than three hours. Never have commercials on Netflix been more needed. Or a video editor.
What was the point of doing this live? The danger, sure, but roasts are dangerous by their very nature. Live makes it an even thinner tightrope, we get that, but at what expense? The answer: enjoyment.
The Tom Brady roast was an Ok three-hour and four-minute roast. It could have been a great prerecorded 90-120 minute event,...

When first we heard that Jon Stewart was switching up his Daily Show schedule this week, we assumed it had something to do with the Netflix Is a Joke festival, where he had a show Friday night.
What we didn’t know at the time was that instead of sitting behind the desk of his own show this Monday night, he’d be visiting two other late-night shows instead.
In order of appearance, the first stop on Stewart’s Monday night comedy tour was episode #2 of Everybody’s in L.A., John Mulaney’s six-episode experiment of a live late-night show for Netflix. The delightfully frenetic show—which includes viewer calls, random tangents from announcer/actor Richard Kind, and plenty of unintended snafus—had Stewart simultaneously confused, amazed, and seemingly terrified.
“I feel like this entire show is a Banksy,” he finally declared. “I feel like, at the end of this,...

Missed Tuesday’s late-night monologues? We’ve got you covered with our round-up of the night’s best laughs from across the dial.
We All Get 10 Practice Contempt Charges, Right?
As admirably as Judge Juan Merchan has scoffed at Donald Trump’s legal team and its increasingly ridiculous and sweaty excuses for their client’s flagrant flouting of the gag order against him, the fact that Trump was issued his tenth contempt of court judgement on Monday for attacking the jurors and officers of the court in his criminal trial had late-night hosts looking for new ways to express their incredulity. With the judge putting it in writing that the next violation will quite probably mean jail time for Trump, at least that mental picture seemed to jazz up the hosts, with Jimmy Kimmel looking eagerly forward to the inevitable, noting, “It’s like trying to get a dog to stop licking itself.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for the NCIS Season 21 finale “Reef Madness.”] “This is one of my favorite episodes of my entire career span on NCIS. It’s so beautifully done and hits so many emotional levels for many different characters,” says Katrina Law, speaking with us about the twenty-first season finale for NCIS: Case Closed, our weekly aftershow. It was particularly tough for her character, Special Agent Jessica Knight, who got an angry breakup speech from her boyfriend, Chief Medical Examiner Jimmy Palmer (Brian Dietzen) after he heard she was considering taking a new job in California. Watch the video above for the two actors’ breakdown of the episode. “It was a wonderfully human reaction that happens, that’s not planned,” Dietzen says. “Jimmy lost one of his best friends and his mentor this year. Losing his wife, even though it’s been a few years [still affects him]. Him saying, ‘I want something on my own terms’ — ...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for the NCIS: Hawai’i series finale, Season 3 Episode 10 “Divided We Conquer.”] Oh, now this just feels cruel. What’s coming next?! The NCIS: Hawai’i series finale picks up right where the first part left off, with Sam (LL Cool J) trying to get to his Elite team as they die after being exposed to Compound X. But one of his team pushes the door to the airlock close when Sam opens it; the only problem is Sam still becomes infected, due to a crack in his respirator face plate. The nearest infectious disease center is too far away, so the team in Belgrade sets up their own for Sam. The good news? They have some of the antidote—Cruz did smash the vials, but there’s enough—for one dose. ...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for the NCIS Season 21 finale “Reef Madness.”] Over the years, NCIS has seen its fair share of team changes, whether due to a tragic death on the job or someone moving on, and the Season 21 finale at times sets up the possibility for both. She had applied a few years ago, at a vulnerable time after her team was killed, but so much has happened since then, and now the team is her family. Both on the awards circuit and in the public consciousness, HBO is widely regarded as among the first Hollywood heavyweights to recognize that television, as a medium, had the power to deliver sprawling, large scale stories on a smaller screen. From HBO’s ascent in the late 1990s through its dragon-aided roar across the 2010s, the network’s original series tackled universal stories, stretching across continents and decades.
The network hasn’t been without controversy, though. HBO faced questions about its lack of diversity in flagship series, including “Game of Thrones” and “Girls,” throughout the 2010s. And, unshackled from the restrictions of broadcast TV, the various steps the network took to push the limit of what’s allowed on screen garnered a fair share of pearl-clutching headlines; see “The Sopranos” in the ’90s and “Euphoria” just a few years back. And since the Warner Bros. and Discovery merger, there’s...

Tyler Perry and Netflix are expanding their creative partnership. There are a lot of critical details for the American space program to work out before a manned mission to Mars can possibly occur, from perfecting the science to organizing logistics to securing finances and more. The element PBS‘s newest documentary sheds an extraordinary new light on is the human condition factor — chiefly, how to safely separate a person from everyone and everything they love for the years upon years it’ll take to complete the mission. In Space: The Longest Goodbye, directed by Ido Mizrahy and premiering on PBS tonight, May 6, at 10/9c, it’s clear that NASA has to do much more than just crunch numbers to make any Mars adventure a reality. The documentary features testimonials from former and current astronauts as well as the agency’s resident psychologist, Dr. Al Holland, who is charged with finding a solution for keeping astronauts sane and productive while...

If there’s any truth to the old adage that history happens first as tragedy and then as farce, it was fitting that years of media sniping and public relitigation of the New England Patriots’ six Super Bowl wins culminated in Tom Brady, Bill Belichick, and Robert Kraft doing shots together at a Netflix comedy festival.

Kim Godwin hoped to build ABC News’ future by cutting out some of its past.
Tasked, ostensibly, with shaking up a culture of the Disney-backed news organization that pit anchors against one another and led to claims of intolerable behavior behind the scenes, Godwin was supposed to revamp a storied journalism hub without losing any of the impetus that spurred employees to make shows such as “World News Tonight” and “Good Morning America” the most-watched in their category.

“There will be a wedding,” Fire Country star Billy Burke promises of the upcoming May 17 finale. “What transpires at that wedding is in question, and Bode [Max Thieriot] might be rethinking his relationship status in the whole scheme of what he’s got in front of him.” Before that finale, however, everyone’s heading to the campaign fire in Episode 9, airing May 10, and as seen in the photo above, Bode and his ex, Gabriela (Stephanie Arcila), whose wedding to Diego (Rafael de la Fuente) is the one coming up, will have a conversation. This comes after Gabriela’s mom (Paola Núñez) surprised her by showing up at the Firefighters’ Ball—off an invite from Diego—and talked to both her exes, Bode and Jake (Jordan Calloway). and Roberta certainly didn’t seem to think that it’s over for her daughter and Bode. “I think that’s a special moment in the sense of,...

From the moment the very first trailer for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s “Heeramandi” on Netflix arrived, it’s become increasingly difficult to ignore that a certain type of Indian actress has passed into extinction.
Since the dawn of Indian cinema, music and dance have been integral to the movie-going experience, with extra emphasis placed on the “heroine” — a leading lady who could not only carry a whole film as an actor, but also captivate the audience as a graceful, expressive dancer. Think of Hollywood corollaries like Judy Garland, Ginger Rogers, Doris Day — but if they were working well into the late 20th and even 21st century. It’s inherently wrapped up in India’s history of folk dance, which is always present at festivals or celebrations; and classical dance, which requires extensive training and was often a precursor to entering beauty pageants and the film industry. This is not the documentary renaissance we hoped for. Despite its 2023 Oscar win for “Navalny,” CNN pulled back on non-fiction production. Non-fiction programming at Showtime Networks, which produced Oscar-nominated “Attica” in 2022, is no more.
“The New York Times Presents” series, which produced titles like “The Killing of Breonna Taylor” and “Framing Britney Spears,” is being phased out in favor of integrating non-fiction video into the media brand. Hot Docs is on the ropes; Participant, which produced documentaries like “An Inconvenient Truth,” “All the Beauty and the Bloodshed,” and “American Factory,” closed last month.
And then there’s Netflix, which is still very much in the documentary game under Adam Del Deo, Netflix VP of original documentary films and limited series — and can afford to be with nearly 270 million global subscribers. However, it’s a specific sort of gameplay: For tight, high-quality nonfiction work that’s heartwarming, or thrilling, or stars a celebrity,...

It was the moment that had 52 million people on the edge of their couches during the Friends series finale, which aired 20 years ago today. Ross (David Schwimmer) raced to the airport to make one last-ditch effort to stop Rachel (Jennifer Aniston) from taking her dream job in Paris to stay in New York with him and their daughter Emma, but she got on the plane anyway. At that moment, it seemed the will-they-won’t-they couple of the century was officially over until Ross got home and played a voicemail from Rachel. She was devastated by how they left things and admitted she still had feelings for him. As they bubbled up inside of her, she became desperate to get off the plane to be with him, much to the chagrin of a bothered flight attendant. Rachel started to make a scene, which was recorded over the voicemail playing for a panicked Ross.

The Greatest Roast of All Time: Tom Bradywas less a roast than a torching. Somehow, Brady kept his blinding smile through all three hours of it.
The Groat, which streamed live as part of Netflix Is a Joke Fest from Inglewood, California, on Sunday night, was hosted by comedian Kevin Hart. He did not mince words, introducing the ceremony by asking if 49ers legend Joe Montana was in fact the Goat Qb being celebrated. Nope. It was indeed Brady, who earned seven Super Bowl wins over 23 seasons, mostly with the New England Patriots. And the Kia Forum suddenly looked a bit different to Hart, a noted Eagles fan: “Tom brought Boston with him,” he said. “I’ve never seen Inglewood so white.”
The proceedings moved on to roastmaster general Jeff Ross. He was no less brazen in his approach, arriving “straight from hell,” per Hart, on a carnival-like float dressed...

Lali Sokolov (Jonah Hauer-King) fights to stay alive every moment he’s imprisoned at Auschwitz. Over the course of his time at the concentration camp, chronicled in Peacock‘s limited series The Tattooist of Auschwitz, Lali is under the supervision of Stefan Baretzki (Jonas Nay), a cruel Nazi guard at Auschwitz. Baretzki is brutally violent towards the prisoners (and kills many), but he also forms a strange, one-sided friendship with Lali. Stefan opens up to Lali about his personal life and doesn’t expose Lali and Gita’s (Anna Próchniak) relationship. That was a big takeaway from the silly, weird first night of John Mulaney’s multi-night Netflix special, “Everybody’s in LA.” The week-long residency/miniseries/experiment was ostensibly created as additional promo for Netflix’s own Netflix Is a Joke comedy festival in Los Angeles, which is going on right now. Thirty+ comedians are in town with something to promote — why not take advantage of it by giving Mulaney an hour to chat up his friends, the thinking goes, while Netflix continues to play around with live programming?
Based on the first episode, which aired May 1 (additional episodes will air May 6 through 10), the program has the feel of a late-night public access show (complimentary). After kicking things off with an opening monologue full of great LA jokes — “The city was officially founded in 1842 as a place for improv students...

Bill Maher says he’s ready to put down the mic—at least when it comes to standup
Sitting down with Jerry Seinfeld on the latest episode of Maher’s Club Random podcast, the long-time host of HBO’s Real Time revealed that he’s planning to wind down his standup career.
“I feel nervous about telling you. I feel like you’re the confessor to this,” Maher told Seinfeld, “but after this year, I’m going to stop doing [standup].”
Maher was quick to give himself an out. “I could go back. I don’t want to make, like, a big announcement or something,” he cautioned. “I mean, I’m doing a special at the end of the year. It’ll be my 13th for HBO. That’s a lot.”
Seinfeld seemed surprised by the news, but would ultimately tell Maher the idea was “not crazy” after hearing the full reasoning.

The episode breaks form from its previous installments and plants the Captain (Hoa Xuande), a double agent pretending to be loyal to the Southern Vietnamese cause and its CIA allies, on the set of an American-made Vietnam War movie directed by Nikos Damianos (the fourth of Robert Downey Jr.‘s characters). The Captain was hired as the cultural consultant for The Hamlet, a noteworthy section of Viet Thanh Nguyen’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel. As the man in charge of representing the Vietnamese community, the Captain was in a unique position to both witness the racist depiction of Vietnamese people in this film and do something about it. What resulted in the making of this Apocalypse Now-style movie was a meta commentary that criticizes how Hollywood portrayed the Vietnam War...

Netflix’s star-studded roast of Tom Brady titled The Greatest Roast of All-Time: Tom Brady, might’ve earned a lot of laughs when it aired Sunday night, but by Monday morning, the cohosts of The View had nothing but jeers for the special. Ana Navarro in particular was fit to be tied about the fact that Brady’s ex-wife Gisele Bündchen was the subject of so many shots from the stage. After moderator Whoopi Goldberg noted that Brady was a “good sport” throughout the program, Navarro took issue with that assessment. “If I was getting paid what he was probably getting paid — he was an executive producer — I’d laugh at all sorts of things. But I think the person who wasn’t getting paid and ended up being part of this roast was Gisele,” Navarro said before noting a recent incident in which Bündchen was in tears during a...
