Mumbai, March 6: Ott shows seem to pushing the envelope in terms of story-lines and plots, and there are a lot of taboo and sensitive topics being dealt with on the platform. With shows such as The Married Women, which is based on a homosexual relationship, and Fabulous Lives Of Bollywood Wives, where Botox and face upliftment procedures are openly discussed, the Indian audience is now exposed to content on topics that have not been dealt with freely on the Indian screens before.

Review The Netflix film directed by Renuka Shahane marks the Ott debut of Bollywood actor Kajol, who is seen in a no holds barred, foul-mouthed and fiery avatar.Geetika MantriIt’s a refrain as old as time. As children, many of us think that we are going to do things differently from our parents when it is our turn, only to have our parents tell us that we’ll never understand till we have children of our own. And when the unprecedented challenges of parenthood present themselves, it becomes easier to understand why. Tribhanga, a drama that unfolds across the lives of three generations of women, traverses choppy waters, attempts to showcase the effects of trauma, difficult choices, social prejudice and messy reconciliations in a 95-minute runtime. While underwhelming in parts, the Kajol, Mithila Palkar and Tanvi Azmi starrer is an ode to motherhood and unapologetic women. The Netflix film...

Tribhanga (Netflix)
Starring Kajol,Tanvi Azmi,Mithila Palkar,Kunaal Roy Kapur,Vaibhav Tatwawaadi
Written & Directed by Renuka Shahane
Just like life, Tribhanga is somewhat off-kilter, a little askew, at times uneven and even patchy. But the story of three generations of women from one family, spirited, unorthodox, unfettered, holds together, moles, warts and all. Tribhanga is a fiercely original film, though cinephiles would like to see distinct shades of Ingmar Bergman’s imperishable classic Autumn Sonata in Renuka Shahane’s striking debut film. But that, like much in life, is only an illusion.
The film’s scenes are ignited by the presence of Kajol. The fieriest actress on this side of Fearless Nadia and Geeta Bali, Kajol brings to Tribhanga a kind of unrehearsed ferocity that is at once intimidating, intriguing, and irresistible.
Strangely there aren’t that many confrontation scenes between mother Tanve Azmi and daughter Kajol. Maybe Ms.

These are traits that helped her relate to her character of Masha in the upcoming film "Tribhanga: Tedhi Medhi Crazy", says Mithila, although she doesn't think she is similar to Masha at all.
"The choices that Masha made were the ones that I would never make, but having said that I won't judge her for that because I know where she came from and why she made those choices," Mithila said.
The actress continued: "I think the one thing that binds us together is that whatever are the decisions we take, we are going to be judged for some of them. I feel like we both are aware that we have the freedom to make a choice and...

Actress Kajol enjoyed working on the women-dominated set of her upcoming digital film Tribhanga: Tedhi Medhi Crazy, and recalled how there was a time when men were not willing to participate in gender conversations.
"There was so much estrogen on ‘Tribhanga' sets that we completely beat the testosterone. We had too much fun on the sets and cracked multiple dirty jokes, if you saw the BTS (behind the scenes) of this film -- you would be in splits," Kajol said.
"We were so entertained during the shooting that we rolled on the floor laughing -- it was a blast altogether. There was this one point where Renuka and I had this huge conversation about men and all of a sudden you could see there was utter silence on the set. We realized that all the men around me had kept quiet and no one was willing to look up and participate in this conversation,...

Mumbai, Jan 11 (Ians) Actor Vaibhav Tatwawaadi, who has appeared in Marathi and Hindi films, says working in the upcoming Kajol-starrer Tribhanga was like attending a master class.
"Getting an opportunity to work with legends like Kajol ma'am and Tanvi Azmi ma'am was like a dream come true. They were very professional and very helpful. As an artiste, watching them perform was like attending an acting master class, which no training could have taught me," said Vaibhav, who has starred in Bollywood films like "Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi" and "Bajirao Mastani".
"Tribhanga: Tedhi Medhi Crazy", a digital film, marks the directorial debut of actress Renuka Shahane.
"The icing on the cake was being directed by Renuka Shahane ma'am whose talent I adore. She knew exactly what she wanted from her actors and was very supportive and explained every scene. She also gave us freedom to express ourselves in front of the camera.

Mumbai, Jan 7 (Ians) Actor Kunaal Roy Kapur says he had to work extensively to ensure that he gets his Hindi diction right in upcoming digital film Tribhanga: Tedhi Medhi Crazy.
He plays Milan, a videographer, tracing the journey of Nayan, a critically acclaimed Marathi litterateur played by Tanvi Azmi, who is unable to write an autobiography. The film, written and directed by Renuka Shahane, also stars Kajol and Mithila Palkar.
"When I found out that my character is going to speak in ‘shudh' Hindi, I was amazed that she believed I could do it. For the character I had to work on my diction and ensure that I don't have any interjections in English," Kunaal said while talking about his preparations to get his Hindi diction right.
"We usually have a tendency to speak ‘Bambaiya' Hindi where you throw in a few English words but this character was very different and couldn't do that.

Filmmaker Karan Johar has teamed up with actress Mithila Palkar for a short film which puts the spotlight on how women feel unsafe in public spaces in India, and says it is high time people started taking the responsibility for the safety of women seriously.
"The girls of our country are extremely talented and are recognised for it across all professional fields. But there is one more field that they are unfortunately 'talented' in - and that is managing their own safety. While we salute them for this, we must acknowledge that safety isn't a talent, it's a social responsibility. And it's high time that we all take this responsibility for the safety of women," Karan said.

Asked if she ever lost out on a role because of her hair type, Mithila told the publication via email: "Never. In fact, most directors I have worked with have vehemently opposed the notion of getting my hair straightened as well."
"So, in a way I feel my curly hair has got me a lot of attention and I don't mind it. I love the fact that my hair has a life of its own," added the Karwaan actress.

There is a vast difference between smart cinema and smartass cinema. The latter is designed by people who think they are funny, smart, sassy and hip when they are none of these.
Chopsticks, sadly, belongs to the latter category of wannabe cinema that doesn't know where it wants to be, or why it is seeking to prove its credentials as cinema in the first place, when in fact it could have easily been a short film, if anything at all.
But then it's a free world. And nowhere is the world freer than on the Internet where anyone can do anything with no fear of repercussions.
Hence, Chopsticks.... you may want to know why this film is titled in such a Chinese way. For the answer, you have to sit through the entire unfunny romcom, or you may please refer to the heroine who is a 'poverty tourism' guide and speaks Mandarin fluently.

VJ Benafsha Soonawalla of "Bigg Boss" fame is set to make her film debut with "Chopsticks". She admires actor Ayushmann Khurrana's rise from being a VJ to a Bollywood actor and says he is her spirit animal.
"Ayushmann Khurrana is my spirit animal. I want to be as talented, kind and effortlessly hilarious as he is," Benafsha told Ians praising Ayushmann, known for films like Vicky Donor, Dum Laga Ke Haisha?and Badhaai Ho.
Unlike him, Benafsha is taking the digital route for her debut in the world of movies.
"Currently, there is no better platform to make a debut other than Netflix. I personally do not know anybody that isn't hooked onto Netflix," she said.
Chopsticks is about an under-confident but talented girl, sidestepped at every stage of her life, who seeks out an enigmatic con to help recover her stolen car from a goat-loving, crazy Mumbai gangster.
