Ben Platt and Noah Galvin have tied the knot!
The Broadway actors first started dating in January 2020 and they got engaged in November 2022. The couple got married during Labor Day Weekend in New York City.
The wedding weekend began with a Friday night Shabbat welcome dinner and a game night on Saturday, followed by the wedding ceremony on Sunday.
“Since some of Ben’s family are observant Jews, we couldn’t get married until Sunday when Shabbat was over, so to keep the party going we had a bar hang with some games and Lombardi’s pizza on Saturday night at Cellar Dog in the West Village,” Noah told Vogue.
Ben added, “Finally, on Sunday, we had the wedding proper at Pioneer Works in Red Hook, Brooklyn. Noah was sad that nobody used the Ikea ferry to get there…”

Searchlight Pictures’ Sundance-winning original comedy Theater Camp will take in an estimated $281,172 or $46.9k per theater at six locations opening weekend — the best limited opening for the distributor since Jojo Rabbit in the fall of 2019 ($349k in five locations). That’s after the A CinemaScore film on Sunday pulled ahead of Searchlight’s The Banshees Of Inisherin four-theater debut last year.
The number’s higher than Searchlight anticipated and the demographic mix a surprise at over 50% 25-34 year-olds,” said SVP Frank Rodriguez. “We didn’t expect that. It was a young audience. We got a lot of the older demos too. It’s a great spot to be in.”
AMC Lincoln Square and Alamo Brooklyn led the way, with Theater Camp at each booking the second-highest weekend gross behind Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning. It took the top spot at the Angelika. LA locations are AMC Century City, the Grove and AMC Burbank.

There is a moment toward the end of "Theater Camp" where one of the campers says that being at camp has helped him accept that he's straight. His two gay dads tell him they always knew and still support him. Of course this is a joke, a parody of the more common moment where a kid has to come out to his parents as gay. But the essence of "Theater Camp" - and why it's probably my favorite queer film of the year - is in that moment. "Theater Camp" effortlessly and immediately creates a queer world, where no one - no matter their age - has to explain or defend themselves. It's a vision of a queer future.

When the initial idea that would become co-directors Molly Gordon and Nick Lieberman’s feature directorial debut was first hatched, it was relatively small-scale. Literally: It was a short film. But after Gordon and Lieberman, alongside their creative partners Ben Platt and Noah Galvin, released the short “Theater Camp” online in 2020 to quick acclaim, the group knew they needed to make it bigger. Like, feature-sized bigger.
Three years later, the foursome premiered the feature version of “Theater Camp” at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival, where it was met with strong reviews and a quick buy from Searchlight Pictures, which picked it up in “the high seven figures range,” with a theatrical release guaranteed.
Both the short and the feature hinge on a concept near and dear to all of their hearts. Cleverly conceived as a mockumentary, “Theater Camp” picks up as our unnamed (and unseen) filmmakers are just a day into production.

Welcome to AdirondACTS Theater Camp in gorgeous upstate New York. Led by founder Joan Rubinsky (Amy Sedaris), the kids, a menagerie of the precocious and hyperactive, are about to put on a production of Bye Bye Birdie. The stage lights are on and––oh, wait. Never mind. Joan has just suffered a seizure from the strobing, so she’s in the hospital. Apparently the “documentary” filmmakers have only been on location for a day. Alas, we only know that because a title card tells us. We don’t really get to see anything, and via another card we learn Joan’s techbro of a son, Troy (Jimmy Tatro), has arrived to salvage the camp.
The jokes continue, largely of the predictable sort. He’s a chronic slang shitter with a ring light. He also, in what the film finds to be hysterical, just loves Post Malone. But wait: he’s not the focus either.

Molly Gordon and Nick Lieberman’s Theater Camp suggests Christopher Guest’s Waiting for Guffman as made by, and starring, theater brats. The largely improvised film also lovingly lampoons the more ridiculous and high-strung tendencies of overly serious community theater types, but does so with an earnest gusto that quickly becomes tiresome.
Guest’s 1996 film is populated by a murderer’s row of skilled improvisers whose work, even at its most over the top, feels effortless, with a lived-in quality that grounds the absurdity in a heightened yet recognizable reality. By contrast, Theater Camp’s comedy mostly comes across as forced and laborious, which makes watching the film, at times, feel like sitting through extended acting exercises where everyone is giving it 110% every take.
Adapted from Lieberman’s 2020 short of the same name, Theater Camp grew out of co-writers Gordon, Lieberman, Ben Platt, and Noah Galvin’s desire to, per Gordon,...

Are you ready? The official trailer for Paramount+’s Zoey 102 is here, and the gang’s (mostly) back together again.
The first look at the film sees Pacific Coast Academy alumni Zoey (Jamie Lynn Spears), Quinn (Erin Sanders), Logan (Matthew Underwood), Chase (Sean Flynn), Michael (Christopher Massey) and Stacey (Abby Wilde) reunite for Quinn and Logan’s wedding.
The trailer opens with a look at Zoey 15 years after Zoey 101 ended. She’s now 30, single and eager to know why everyone her age is obsessed with marriage, only to find out her best friend, Quinn, is set to be wed.
“Chase is gonna be there. It’ll be fine,” Quinn tells Zoey. “It’ll be the reunion we all need.” It’s a response that makes Zoey want to get another drink, hinting that the former high school couple may not be on the best of terms anymore after ending the Nickelodeon series together.

Comedy is exceedingly difficult to pull off theatrically in the streaming age, but Searchlight Pictures is giving it the ol' college try this summer with the original comedy "Theater Camp." The good news? It looks absolutely hilarious and has been met with rave reviews coming out of film festivals such as Sundance (read our review here). Now, a trailer has arrived online, which will help give the moviegoing masses an idea of what to expect. If this is anything to go on, expect something endearing and funny.
The film hails from Nick Lieberman and Molly Gordon, who you may recognize from movies like "Booksmart" and "Good Boys." They are directing here, with Gordon also starring alongside Ben Platt ("Dear Evan Hansen"). While they may not be overly experienced feature directors, it looks like they didn't miss a beat in bringing this story to life. But enough talk, let's roll the footage.

"These people are really weird." Searchlight Pictures has revealed their fun first official trailer for the indie comedy Theater Camp, a mockumentary in the same vein as Waiting for Guffman or Best in Show. This first premiered at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival earlier this year and was a massive hit, one of the best of the fest, I loved it and raved about it in my own review as well. The acclaimed faux documentary film follows the eccentric staff of a rundown theater camp in upstate New York, as they band together with the beloved founder's bro-y son to keep the camp afloat, when she falls into a coma right before the summer session is set to begin. They attempt to put on a masterpiece to save their theater camp known as "AdirondACTS". The ensemble cast of this comedy includes Noah Galvin, Molly Gordon, Ben Platt, Jimmy Tatro, Patti Harrison,...

There’s nothing that sings summer like (theater) camp.
Molly Gordon’s directorial debut “Theater Camp,” which she co-helmed with Nick Lieberman, draws upon the beloved chaos of theater camp days lore. The film debuted at 2023 Sundance and boasts an impressive ensemble cast including Amy Sedaris and “The Bear” breakout Ayo Edebiri, with Tony winner Ben Platt co-writing the script and starring in a lead role opposite Gordon.
The official synopsis for “Theater Camp” reads: Tony Award winner Ben Platt and Molly Gordon star in the original comedy as Amos and Rebecca-Diane, lifelong best friends and drama instructors at a rundown camp in upstate New York. When clueless tech-bro Troy (Jimmy Tatro) arrives to run the property (into the ground), Amos, Rebecca-Diane, and production manager Glenn (Noah Galvin) band together with the staff and students, staging a masterpiece to keep their beloved summer camp afloat.

There are plenty of movies about making movies, both literally and figuratively, but you won't find nearly as many films about the art of theater. With so much drama surrounding, well, the drama of theater, it's a setting that is ripe for comedy, and the new Sundance-selected film "Theater Camp" takes advantage of that and delivers sidesplitting laughs in droves with a wonderful assembly of talent both in front of and behind the camera.
As the title suggests, "Theater Camp" follows the mentors and aspiring young actors who come together every summer in the Adirondack mountains for the uplifting and beloved theater camp known as AdirondACTS. Even more beloved is Joan (Amy Sedaris), the founder of the camp, but when the strobe lights of a local stage production send Joan into a seizure followed by a coma, AdirondACTS suddenly finds itself in the hands of crypto-bro Troy (Jimmy Tatro of...

Asked how they feel about making their Sundance debut in the mockumentary Theater Camp, newly engaged couple Ben Platt and Noah Galvin, in their first red carpet interview since the ring exchange, already sounded like an old married couple.
“It feels that much more special because we really deserved it, you know? We really earned it. We made a thing and they wanted us here,” Galvin said before his Tony Award-winning beau corrected him. “Nobody deserves anything. We’re just lucky and grateful to be here.”

Theater Camp comes with the audience advisory that it contains strobe effects and may potentially trigger seizures. And in a unique twist, this humorous mockumentary from first-time feature film directors Molly Gordon and Nick Lieberman incorporates that warning into the plot.
AdirondACTS theater camp founder Joan (Amy Sedaris) suffers a seizure from the strobe light in the camp’s production of Bye Bye Birdie. Joan lapses into a coma at the worst possible time for the struggling upstate New York theater camp. It’s also horrible timing for the documentary crew since Joan was supposed to be the focus of the film and her coma occurs on the first day of shooting.
Money is a major issue and after Joan is forced to make an unexpected exit from camp, her son, Troy (Jimmy Tatro), is put in charge.

Set in a sleepaway stage-training program for shy kids and incorrigible natural hams, where attendees get intensive instruction from Broadway burnouts, “Theater Camp” is that rare parody that has viewers laughing from the opening scene till the credits roll. I’m talking about the 18-minute short film that Noah Galvin, Molly Gordon, Nick Lieberman and Ben Platt uploaded to YouTube a month or so into the pandemic, earning a cult following among musical theater geeks and those who survived comparable drama camps in upstate New York.
The feature version is more of the same, minus the laughs.
Truth be told, this new “Theater Camp” probably contains just as many laughs, except that now, nearly all of them are packed into the final half-hour of a gets-old-fast feature in which co-directors Gordon and Lieberman hammer the same joke ad nauseam. The driving concept behind “Theater Camp” — which sold to Searchlight for...

One thing Theater Camp could never be accused of is not knowing its audience.
Hatched by co-directors Molly Gordon and Nick Lieberman and their fellow screenwriters Noah Galvin and Ben Platt out of a string of sketches, an unreleased web series and an improvised short, this larkish comedy is laser-targeted for a highly specific niche. Musical theater geeks, aspiring performers and eccentric drama educators will find countless sweet-spot insider jokes in a film that conveys the love of its creative team for the milieu at every turn. For the uninitiated, its charms are more likely to register in fits and starts.
The project takes as its model the Christopher Guest improv comedy, which is both a blessing and a curse since the under-baked mockumentary frame is rickety and seems to be forgotten for large chunks at a time. Another drawback is the considerable overlap with two sharper, more disciplined films,...

Searchlight Pitures has won a fierce bidding war for one of the buzziest Sundance crowd-pleasers. The Disney-owned distributor has closed a worldwide rights deal for the well-reviewed and well-received “Theater Camp,” with distribution rights going for around 8 million, according to an insider with knowledge of the deal.
The feature adaptation of Nick Lieberman’s 2020 short film of the same name will receive a theatrical release. It premiered in the dramatic competition on Saturday afternoon at the Eccles Theater in Park City and received a standing ovation.
The mockumentary stars comedic ensemble Gordon, Ben Platt (“Pitch Perfect”), Noah Galvin (“Booksmart”), Jimmy Tatro (“American Vandal”), Patti Harrison (“Together Together”), and Ayo Edebiri (“The Bear”). Penned by Galvin, Gordon, Lieberman and Platt, and based on their short film, the film was produced by Will Ferrell, Galvin, Gordon, Lieberman, Platt, Erik Feig, Samie Kim Falvey, Julia Hammer, Ryan Heller, Maria Zuckerman, and Jessica Elbaum.

Update: Searchlight has confirmed Deadline’s deal scoop on Theater Camp. Release is below, with another big Sundance deal in the books.
Exclusive: Searchlight Pictures is in final talks to acquire Theater Camp out of the Sundance Film Festival, in a worldwide deal that will land in the 8 million range, with a theatrical release guarantee.
Directed by Molly Gordon and Nick Lieberman, the film stars Gordon and Ben Platt as longtime best friends who return to an upstate run down theater camp that is imperiled when its founder lapses into a coma due to an unfortunate strobe-light incident. Her son takes over, and he tries to stave off foreclosure even though he initially has little interest in greasepaint and the boards.
The project grew out of Booksmart, another Gloria Sanchez production. Elbaum & Ferrell produced with PictureStart’s Erik Feig (who financed), Samie Kim Falvey, Julia Hammer, Ryan Heller, Maria Zuckerman,...

For Molly Gordon, Ben Platt, and much of the cast of “Theater Camp,” their Sundance comedy was years of friendship in the making.
“The origins truly began when Ben and I met each other when we were three. We pitched it immediately,” co-director, co-writer and star Molly Gordon joked during a discussion with TheWrap’s Executive Editor Adam Chitwood.
Gordon, co-director Nick Lieberman, writer-stars Noah Galvin and Ben Platt, and cast members Patti Harrison, Jimmy Tatro, and Owen Thiele stopped by TheWrap’s Portrait and Video Studio at The Music Lodge the day of “Theater Camp”s premiere.

Theater Camp is a hilarious film by first time directors Molly Gordon (Booksmart), and Nick Lieberman. This was a collaborative effort between friends as it’s written by Molly Gordon, Ben Platt, Nick Lieberman, and Noah Galvin which was a labor of love because while it’s kooky, it’s full of vulnerability and earnestness.
The movie opens at AdirondACTS (located in the Adirondacks in upstate NY), a rundown theater camp founded by Joan (Amy Sedaris). While they’re readying for the summer session of kids to arrive, the staff is shocked to learn Joan has fallen ill. However, its too late to mitigate circumstances as the diverse group of kids show up before the camp can cancel the session. These kids are the awkward outsiders who are unsure of their talents, and without Joan, they aren’t sure how to move forward.
