For all the hype and excitement surrounding Secret Empire – not to mention a good degree of controversy – this issue has an unmistakable sense of being filler. Nick Spencer is enjoying exploring the Hydra-controlled world that he’s created, and I understand that he’s trying to make it all feel a little bit more real. He wants to explore the sense of hopelessness and despair that’s attendant in such a fascist-controlled world. At the same time, though, that makes for a slow-moving event comic.
This issue is all about moving the pieces into place. On the one hand, you have Black Widow preparing to launch an assassination attempt on Steve Rogers. On the other hand, you have Hawkeye leading a team in pursuit of the Cosmic Cube. Meanwhile, Steve Rogers himself pursues the Cosmic Cube relentlessly.

Let the subplots commence. Civil War 2 is chugging along with the release of The Amazing Spider-Man Number 1. I’ve found that with event stories such as this, some of the subplot stories that you find in other comics vary in quality. Sometimes their addition to the main event flows nicely, such as Ms. Marvel’s use in the Secret Wars event. Sometimes the results are mixed such as the Black Widow series from Nathan Edmondson.
To start, I enjoyed this issue. While it definitely adds to the Civil War 2 story, it doesn’t feel forced in the least. It feels like a natural extension of where Brian Bendis and Dave Marquez are taking things. The characters feel real which can be tough to accomplish when dealing with people with such amazing abilities. When Peter Parker and Johnny Storm meet up under circumstances fit for a 1970’s sitcom, their back...

Natasha Romanov is on the run from Shield. Tasked with retrieving an item from the deadly Red Room in Russia from a man calling himself Weeping Lion, she battles through her enemies as well as her memories to retrieve the object he wants. But all is not what it seems…
I love Black Widow. The character is so intriguing. Starting off as a Russian spy and turning her life around to be a long time member of Shield, she carries the weight of her past on her shoulders. The previous run by Nathan Edmondson and Phil Noto brought some of the best Black Widow stories I have read as well as producing some of the best art I have seen in comics. When their run came to an end I had to wonder how Marvel could top such a great run.

Michael B. Jordan is returning to the comic book universe (post-"Fantastic Four"), but this time as a writer. That's right, the actor, who's seemingly on a hot streak right now, will reportedly co-write a new spy series for Dark Horse Comics titled "North." "North" follows a soldier who is recruited into a top-secret paramilitary program that modifies his mind to make him a spy like no other. When an operation goes south, he is betrayed by the organizations he serves but quickly discovers he is far more dangerous than even his betrayers realize. Sounds somewhat like a Jason Bourne/Universal Soldier mash-up. Nathan Edmondson, a writer known for crime series,...

Michael B. Jordan is perfect and everyone knows it (Haddie, Coach Taylor, the other three from the Fantastic Four). And now the Creed actor is teaming up with writer Nathan Edmondson to pen North, an action spy comic about a soldier who undergoes a top-secret program that makes him a superspy. A comic book? That B in his name must stand for "book"! He's been trying to tell us the whole time! The comic will include illustrations from Eisner-winning artists Denys Cowan, Bill Sienkiewicz, and Bettie Breitweiser. Is there anything Michael Book Jordan can't do? No. Sorry, but there just isn't. We've done the research.

Image Comics series The Activity, written by Nathan Edmondson with illustrations by Mitch Gerads, is getting the blockbuster treatment at Paramount, Edmondson confirmed via Instagram earlier today.
The comic, which published its sixteenth edition last December, centers on a highly trained, top-secret military operations group that deals with situations no other unit is equipped to handle. It has received acclaim and a solid readership since its first issue was published in 2012.
According to Edmondson, Paramount is moving forward with a film adaptation, with producer Dan Lin attached and Black Hawk Down scribe Ken Nolan writing the screenplay. Nolan isn’t a stranger to the series, having written an introduction to the third paperback collection of Activity comics.
Paramount. Dan Lin. Ken Nolan. Blockbuster! The script is amazing. Who do you want to direct? Who would you cast? More announcements very soon. #WarfareWithoutWarning Visit www.warfarewithoutwarning.com with sound on!

The characters can be seen talking about the absent Michael B Jordan - who will play the Human Torch in director Josh Trank's film - shortly before meeting their demise.
Mitch Gerads illustrated the scene in The Punisher #12.

Earlier in the fall, we reported on the tension between 20th Century Fox and Marvel escalating to the point that the comic book company was ending their run of Fantastic Four comics in an effort to dilute interest in the forthcoming feature film reboot from Chronicle director Josh Trank. Indeed, the comic book has been ended for the time being, but there's no indication that this was done with malicious intent. However, you might raise an eyebrow when you see some frames from Punisher #12, the latest issue written by Nathan Edmondson and drawn by Mitchell Gerads. What unfolds is funny, but pretty messed up. Here's the frames in question from Marvel Comics Punisher #12 (via Comic Book Movie): Did you pick up on that? The name "Trang" is clearly a reference to Josh Trank, director of the forthcoming reboot of Fantastic Four, and the three people seen on the page certainly resemble Miles Teller,...

When Marvel Comics announced their new Avengers Now! initiative, there were a few big bullet-point announcements. Thor’s a woman; the Falcon is the new Captain America; Iron Man’s getting a Genius-Bar costume change. But for a certain kind of comic book fan, the most important part of the announcement was: Deathlok, Deathlok, Deathlok.
The cyborg hero first appeared four decades ago, but 2014 has seen a veritable Deathlok renaissance. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. put its own spin on the character, transforming J. August Richards’ superpowered Mike Peterson into a scarred killing machine. And in October, Marvel is launching a new Deathlok ongoing series,...

Marvel’s presence at Baltimore Comic Con was low tech and fairly quiet with no slides or big announcements, but fans in the audience got to ask a variety of questions to Marvel’s creative talent from stupid ones like “Is the new Thor a lesbian?” to ones about the fates of various characters, the amount of creator/editorial interplay in different titles, and why digital comics cost as much as print copies. The panelists were Senior Vice President of Publishing Tom Brevoort, writer Charles Soule (She-Hulk, Death of Wolverine), writer/artistJim Starlin (Thanos: Infinity Revelation), inker Mark Morales (Infinity, Original Sin), and writer Mark Waid (Daredevil).
Before the panel began, Tom Brevoort told the audience that it was Marvel’s comics, not their films, cartoons, or merchandising, but there will still quite a few questions about various things like this from asking if Marvel Studios would ever buy Spider-Man...

Previously released as part of the Splinter Cell Blacklist collector's edition, Splinter Cell: Echoes is now coming out as a 4 part miniseries book from Ubisoft and Dynamite Entertainment, home of Red Sonja, Green Hornet, Vamperiella, and many others. The book is filling in the gaps between Conviction and Blacklist, and revolves around a new terrorist organization called Krowe. Apparently Krowe's Netflix subscription ran out, so they have resorted to causing trouble, and it's up to Sam to stop them.

Washington, Apr.19: 'Splinter Cell,' a video game franchise created by Tom Clancy, is set to come out in a new avatar of a four-issue comic book series titled as 'Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Echoes' in July.
The comic series will be penned by Nathan Edmondson, and artwork would be done by Marc Laming, the Hollywood Reporter reported.
The comic book series would be bridging the gap between the two recent installments of Ubisoft's game series: 2010's 'Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Convinction' and 'Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Blacklist.'
Edmondson said that he will tell a full and original story that stands on its own.

Black Widow #1
Writer: Nathan Edmondson
Artist: Phil Noto
Publisher: Marvel Comics
From the striking to cover to a very intimate last page, Phil Noto makes Black Widow #1 a visual delight. From well-choreographed combat sequences to a look at Black Widow’s stealth skills from a variety of operations, Noto shows what makes Natasha Romanov, one of the most dangerous women on the planet. He also colors the book and uses the trademark reds and blacks to hint at the woman beneath the catsuit. But unfortunately readers don’t get to see enough of this woman. Nathan Edmondson uses caption boxes and an awkward conversation with her lawyer Isaiah to reveal her goal of “atonement” for past misdeeds. But the people she neutralizes are poorly developed characters and merely act as props in her deadly espionage-themed ballet. Black Widow has some moments of reflection and one heartfelt scene towards the end,...

Though she now walks a righteous path, Natasha’s past is paved with bloody memories. The death and destruction from her past as a Kgb assassin still haunts her – and she now seeks atonement for past sins. Atonement that will take her to the darkest corners of the Marvel Universe and beyond. And commit acts the Avengers and S.H.I.E.L.D. would not approve of. “Phil Noto and Nathan Edmondson have one those magical creative partnerships that brings out the best in both of them,” says series Editor Ellie Pyle. “Together they bring you a Natasha who is unsettlingly human in the midst of all the action and intrigue you’d expect.” Deadly foes and lethal threats await around every turn – and the Black Widow stands alone. Don’t miss this new series that’s as gorgeous and dangerous as Natasha herself when Black Widow #1 is released this January!
