Jake Paul’s jump from YouTube personality to professional boxer may have garnered some scoffs, but, with a record of 5-0 and four wins by way of knockouts (including back-to-back victories against Tyron Woodley), he’s proven himself to be formidable in the ring. Tonight, Paul faces his toughest opponent yet — UFC legend Anderson Silva — in an eight-round cruiserweight bout.

Michael B. Jordan is opening up about how important it was for him to make Creed III more “honest to the sport of boxing” by incorporating elements of Mexican culture.
Fans of the boxing franchise got a glimpse of Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez making an appearance in the trailer for the new film. The Mexican boxing star is one of the biggest names in the combat sport and predecessors like Julio César Chávez helped raise the notoriety of the sport.
“We just looked back, you know, it’s the history of boxing, and the Mexican culture is such a pillar within the sport of boxing and felt like there wasn’t really a lot of representation throughout the films in that type of way. And it just didn’t seem like the reality I lived in. So I wanted to incorporate Mexican culture into this film,” Jordan said during a press conference according to Slash Film.

There is a long history of boxing in cinema. Even before there were motion pictures, kinetoscopic recordings of boxing were distributed and shown among fans. Over the decades, the sport, with its larger-than-life personas, minimalistic iconography, and opportunity for primal violence became a staple of the cinema medium. There have been prestige boxing movies, and there have been empty-fun popcorn boxing movies.
A titan among these movies, of course, is the "Rocky" franchise. From its indie roots and its poignant underdog story to its over-the-top live-action anime sequels that defy all logic but still deliver thrills, laughs, and big emotions, there is no stopping this franchise. The franchise even comments on the real world, as with a focus on the latest technology and engineering the greatest boxer in Ivan Drago during "Rocky IV."

For the second weekend in a row, it’s family time at the multiplex. But that “Ft” tag is true on both levels since Love On The Rocks was an adult “dramedy” and Eternal Beauty was a dark tale of conflict and tragedy. The latter focused on sisters while the former featured a “caper” involving a father (and grandfather) and his daughter (also a mother). This new flick almost wears its “PG” rating as a beacon welcoming in “all ages”. It does concern three generations of a family, and it’s a comedy full of “gross-out” gags, slapstick pratfalls, and elaborate pranks to appeal to the tots and “pre-teens” weaned on annual holiday reruns of the Home Alone movies. Oh, but things aren’t all “tears and hugs” as the youngest lad in this household starts The War With Grandpa.

Robert De Niro adds another grandpa comedy to his filmography with the serviceable but uninspired family comedy The War With Grandpa. Still, it could have been worse – at least it’s not Dirty Grandpa II.
Oakes Fegley (Pete’s Dragon) stars as Peter, a pre-teen kid who’s horrified to hear that he’ll have to give up his bedroom when his mother, Sally (Uma Thurman) insists that Grandpa Ed (De Niro) has to move in with them. Spurred on by best friend Billy (Juliocesar Chavez), Pete decides to declare war on his grandpa until he gets his room back. And when Ed lays out the rules of engagement, an escalating series of pranks and practical jokes ensues.

“I think your grandpa might be a Ninja,” a frightened child warns the younger half of a warring faction in the new The War with Grandpa trailer. Robert De Niro, who survived the Vietnam War in The Deer Hunter, mob wars in Goodfellas and The Godfather Part II, and battled Sugar Ray Robinson in Raging Bull, is taking off his fiercest enemy yet. And may finally be outmatched in this conflict of pranks in the family movie.
