CNN is taking a swing at comedy, with plans to launch a U.S. version of the long-running BBC comedy quiz show Have I Got News For You.
The program was announced during Warner Bros. Discovery’s upfront presentation Wednesday morning. CNN is calling it a limited series, with a debut set for the fall.
Have I Got News For You is in its 66th season at the BBC, having launched in 1990. The program features two teams of panelists who answer questions about the week’s news, cracking jokes and sparking discussions in the process. Hat Trick Productions, the company behind the BBC series, will also produce the U.S. edition.

CNN aims to return to the recipe that gave its viewers explorers of international cuisine such as Anthony Bourdain and Stanley Tucci.
After announcing in October of 2022 that the Warner Bros. Discovery-backed outlet would pull back on the efforts that made it a name in original documentary series and films — ostensibly to cut costs at a time when its corporate parent was grappling with significant debt — CNN wants to get back into the business of developing original non-fiction series and movies.
“I think we are very much in the rebuild phase,” Amy Entelis, executive vice president for talent and content, tells Variety during a recent interview.
Mark Thompson, named in August to oversee CNN following a tumultuous run under predecessor Chris Licht, has articulated a strategy of building out new areas and verticals that can help the company win more customers and viewers. Original series would seem to be one of them.

Whether or not the 10pm hour on Fox News should be considered a late-night show is a matter of some debate at the broadcast networks, but apparently that didn’t stop NBC’s Jimmy Fallon from welcoming Fox News Saturday Night host Jimmy Failla to the late-night fold.
As Failla reveals in a new a new Variety profile, Fallon sent him a letter congratulating him on being named host of the show back in January, alongside a cooler filled with Fallon’s signature Ben & Jerry’s “Tonight Dough” ice cream flavor.
The gift from Fallon was a full-circle moment of sorts for Failla. He met his wife while on the road performing standup, but apparently she first went to his show thinking she was seeing a Jimmy Fallon show. (The two hosts do share very similar names.)
Failla tells Variety that he’d love for Fallon to guest on his show.

Jimmy Failla isn’t taking over Fox News Chanel, but he has, at least for one short period in the late afternoon, seized control of a portion of its New York ground-floor facilities.
The space is typically devoted to a space for guests to hang out and a section for hair and makeup, but Failla uses it to get himself revved up to tape “Fox News Saturday Night,” a program the network says is devoted less to red-versus-blue rants and more to making people laugh. The hallway leading to his studio was flooded with the sounds of rockabilly and Queen.
“True comedy doesn’t have a political party. Comedy is a party,’ says the 47-year-old comedian, who hails from a family of cops and, prior to his tenure at Fox News was supplementing his stand-up income by driving a New York taxi. “And at a party, you don’t ask...

The “Gutfeld!” gang held a Disney-themed party – if sustained dunking on recent poor box office performance qualifies as a party.
The Fox News late-night show devoted Tuesday’s opener to trashing recent Marvel, Walt Disney Studios and Pixar films that underperformed in movie theaters, suggesting their progressive narratives and characters were hurting business. To make his point, host Greg Gutfeld referenced a Breitbart article titled “Box Office Analyst Estimates Disney Lost $890 Million on Last Eight Theatrical Releases,” which is based solely on a post by “prominent YouTuber” Valliant Renegade.
“It’s gotten so bad, Cruella DeVille is selling dogs at Chipotle. Pocahontas had to open a casino. And Peter Pan had to cancel his gender-affirmation surgery,” Gutfeld cracked, drawing an iffy response from the studio audience – a nightly occurrence on the Fox show that pushes past the boundaries of crass, juvenile humor by design.
“What does this say about Disney?...

Never make jokes about golf – or is it, never make jokes about the 9/11 terrorist attacks? As Greg Gutfeld found out on Wednesday night, it’s definitely both.
Jokes that clang on the studio audience have become a regular part of the “Gutfeld!” schtick on Fox News late night, and the namesake host dropped a doozy amid a monologue about the merger between the PGA Tour and Saudi Arabia-based Liv Golf. This time, the unwise wisecrack earned him 10 seconds of near-silence.
Gutfeld served up the blockbuster sports merger as the main topic of his opening monologue, fully aware he was out of his element. But one sequence of gags led him straight to dead-air:
“I mean, it’s Saudi Arabia,” Gutfeld began. “Does the game start making changes? Like hiding IEDs in sand traps?”
That got a short burst of nervous laughter from the live audience, and Gutfeld kept rolling:

On Friday’s episode of “All In With Chris Hayes,” the MSNBC host took aim at the ongoing debt ceiling fight, and in particular how Republicans are attempting to use their threat to drive the United States into default to federal gut efforts to deal with climate change.
But while Hayes did have harsh words for the GOP, he also called attention to the way the media is covering the debt ceiling crisis, urging journalists “not to collude” with Republicans in climate change denialism.
Hayes began the segment talking about the latest horrifying example of how climate change is making the world more dangerous: The unseasonal and unusually extreme wildfires in the Canadian wilderness currently sending massive amounts of smoke into the United States. He also touched on some recent bad news — that scientists project we’ll have raised global temperatures to a potential climate change tipping point by 2027.

A New York Post story claiming that 20 homeless veterans had been kicked out of hotels in upstate New York to make room for migrants and was later spotlit on Fox News turned out was a lie.
Without fact-checking the story or reaching out to the accused hotels for comment, Fox News’ Laura Ingraham highlighted it with a chyron that read “New York City Puts Illegals Ahead of Veterans,” while Republicans raged at Biden, with Nikki Haley calling it “liberal insanity at work.”
However, reporting by local outlet the Mid-Hudson News not only found holes in the Post’s story, but what appears to be outright fraud, with homeless men telling the Hudson Valley paper they were given food and money to pose as veterans and claim they’d been displaced by migrants at the Crossroads Hotel in the town of Newburgh, New York.

Apparently there’s too far even for a “Gutfeld!” live studio audience – a joke that guest host Jimmy Failla told Thursday night at the expense of Dylan Mulvaney drew a cold, hard silence from the live studio audience after the “Fox Across America” comedian referred to the transgender influencer as “him.”

As the world teeters on the brink of war in Ukraine, reels as the Covid-19 pandemic continues to disrupt, and continues to suffer from climate change, inflation, and supply chain shortages, the biggest news of the week came down to one thing: Minnie Mouse is changing her look.
Even though Disney has several characters that don’t wear pants, the fact that Minnie Mouse is changing from her traditional red polka dot dress to a Stella McCartney designer pantsuit sparked outrage, amusement, and a windfall of online attention for a cartoon character’s wardrobe choices.
As with almost everything, reactions came down to politics. Conservative Candace Owens was seeing red and claimed a more sinister agenda was at work in the costume change, while the other side of the aisle dismissed the rants as yet another distraction from the real issues.

Warning: The above video contains strong language. These New Yorkers have had it with these [bleep]ing snakes in this [bleep]ing cab. To promote his new tell-all book, taxi driver turned comedian Jimmy Failla drove a yellow cab around Manhattan with one special guest: a 10-foot albino python, which he delighted in springing upon his unsuspecting passengers shortly after they entered the car. Cabbie Cupid by Follow That Car! "I'm 36, white and driving a taxi, this is clearly not the first wrong turn I've made," said a comic trying out for "America's Got Talent" on Monday (Apr. 8) in New York.
The stand-up comedian, Jimmy Failla, works as a taxi driver. He had a very short routine about how white people are very specific in taxi directions and black people are not.
As he spoke about his ability to speak English and the difference between white and black taxi passengers, Mel B, a new judge on the show, buzzed to eliminate him.
Some of the audience -- which Zap2it was a part of -- booed -- generally white men, and some, generally black women, applauded -- when the Artist Formerly Known as Scary Spice registered her opinion.
It was a fairly typical response during the auditions because the warm-up comic encourages the audience to cheer and boo the judges.
