Ron Cephas Jones, who left viewers emotional throughout his breakthrough run on NBC’s “This Is Us,” has died, TheWrap has confirmed via his manager.
Jones, 66, had broken through as an older actor portraying William “Shakespeare” Hill on the soapy NBC drama, father to Sterling K. Brown’s Randall Pearson.
Jones died of a “long-standing pulmonary issue,” according to a statement from his representatives. The actor suffered from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, he told The New York Times in 2021, and had received a double-lung transplant.
The first credited role Jones played was in 1994, but he continued to get work in projects including “Law & Order,” “NYPD Blue” and “He Got Game.” But he hit a new level of prominence as an estranged father on “This Is Us,” one who knew his time was limited and whose arc ultimately depicted his death.

Anthony Ramos has made a name for himself in the entertainment industry, thanks to his major roles as John Laurens and Philip Hamilton in "Hamilton" and Usnavi de la Vega in "In the Heights." Ramos not only rose to fame in 2015 with his breakout roles in Lin-Manuel Miranda's hit Broadway musical, but he also met someone who would change his life along the way. The New York native starred onstage alongside many talented actors, but it was Jasmine Cephas Jones who he'd eventually fall in love with.
Ramos and Cephas Jones - who played Peggy Schuyler and Maria Reynolds in "Hamilton" - started dating in February 2015, and announced their engagement in 2019. However, they broke up after six years together in late 2021. During their time together, Ramos was vocal about how Cephas Jones changed his life. "I think that's a blessing," Ramos told People about how it feels to witness success in "Hamilton" together.

The six actors join Academy Award nominee Aunjanue Ellis, who was previously announced as the lead in the film inspired by Pulitzer Prize winner Isabel Wilkerson’s “Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents.” Described in The New York Times as “an instant American classic and almost certainly the keynote nonfiction book of the American century thus far,” the book — and subsequently DuVernay’s film — examines the system of hierarchy that has shaped America.
DuVernay writes, directs and produces the film alongside her longtime collaborator Array Filmworks’ Paul Garnes. “Caste” is currently in production in Georgia, financed by J4A.

On #FreeRayshawn, Jasmine Cephas Jones threw herself into the emotional whirlwind of a nightmare scenario, working tirelessly to get to the truth of a story that is, unfortunately, all too common in America today.
Created by Marc Maurino, the Quibi short-form series centers on Rayshawn (Stephan James), a young, Black veteran of the Iraq War, who finds himself in a standoff with a Swat team, after an incident with undercover cops results in unintended, fatal consequences. Trapped in his apartment with his wife and child, Rayshawn looks to social media and a sympathetic police lieutenant, in an effort to clear his name, before he becomes yet another victim of a corrupt justice system.

We can all woop King George III style now that Hamilton is now available for the world to watch on Disney+. The long awaited recording of the global sensation is two hours and 40 minutes of pure magic – a beautiful retelling of the life of Founding Father Alexander Hamilton. We presume the show is all about Alexander, as he is in nearly every scene. Although he played such an important role in the Revolution and in forming the nation’s government, the show’s namesake – Hamilton – also plays homage to his wife, Eliza Hamilton.
It may take the story unfolding for us to realize that Eliza was, in fact, the real hero of Hamilton. Not only did she play a huge role in the show, but in American history.

The Hamilton film, which hits Disney+ on July 3, isn't just a throwback to a reimagined version of the American Revolution: it's a throwback to the early days of the smash-hit musical. Although the movie is just being released now, it actually was filmed a few years back, fresh off the heels of its near-sweep at the Tony Awards.
According to a Deadline report at the time of the film's announcement, the Hamilton movie was filmed in 2016, over the course of three performances in the weeks before some of the original cast members departed the company. Playbill reported that the show was filmed live on June 26 and June 28 of that year; additionally, some segments were filmed again without an audience. This was done in order to allow cameras to capture different angles that wouldn't be possible to get without interfering significantly with a live performance.

No, it’s not really a “movie” in the sense of an all-out, bells-and-whistles Hollywood extravaganza. The Hamilton that debuts on Disney+ starting July 3rd is a live-performance film of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s ground-breaking, history-making Broadway musical that told the story of Alexander Hamilton (“the ten-dollar Founding Father”) in an electrifying, hip-hop style. It’s an indisputable classic. Even folks who never got to see the show when it first opened on Broadway have heard the score that went six-times platinum and became the best-selling cast album of all time.

Jasmine Cephas Jones might be most widely known for her role in the original Hamilton as both Peggy Schuyler and Maria Reynolds, but the talented Broadway actress has entertainment in her blood. She's the daughter of Ron Cephas Jones, aka William from This Is Us, and jazz singer Kim Lesley. Before Ron was putting on Emmy-winning performances in the NBC show, he starred in off-Broadway and Broadway plays such as 2014's Of Mice and Men.
Similarly, Jasmine starred in the Schuyler sister role when the show was off Broadway in 2015, and she continued through 2016 with the Broadway production. She also met her now-fiancé and Hamilton costar, Anthony Ramos, when the show kicked off in 2015. The adorable couple got engaged on Christmas Eve in 2018.
As we count down the days until the 11-time Tony Award-winning stage musical makes its way to Disney+ on July 3, we can't help but gush over the Cephas Jones family.

Hoping to lure more subscribers to its already 50-million-and-counting viewer base, Disney+ is debuting the filmed version of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Broadway phenomenon “Hamilton” on the service July 3. Theatergoers and fans of the Tony and Pulitzer Prize winner know it’s a hot ticket at any cost, and with theaters nationwide shuttered a cool $6.99 a month to watch the movie version can’t be beat. Watch a new trailer for the upcoming premiere below.
While Disney’s decision to postpone a theatrical release for “Hamilton” and shuffle it straight to streaming comes at a box-office loss, its gains stand to be even bigger. When Disney bought the musical for $75 million back in February, the studio also nabbed a potential franchise. Plus, the inevitable flood of new subscribers looking to tune into Miranda’s genre-hopping sensation about the life of Alexander Hamilton puts serious heat on Netflix in the fierce streaming wars.

As Deadline first told you, Disney shelled out $75M for the global rights to the movie, beating a number of rival studio suitors. Your July calendar has just been filled. Disney and Lin-Manuel Miranda announced today that the filmed version of the original Broadway production of Hamilton will be premiering on Disney+ on July 3rd. Yes, that is just in time for American Independence Day. And, yes, this is the only acceptable way to celebrate the holiday this year.
Disney is “fast-tracking” the premiere, which was scheduled to be a theatrical release in October 2021. No doubt the “social distancing” measures brought about by the global Covid-19 pandemic has changed the original plan, as it has done for so many things. It’s nice to have things to look forward to.
It’s only a matter of time…

As Eliza Schuyler Hamilton begins to emerge into her own in the second act of Hamilton, she’s dealt a huge blow. Alexander Hamilton’s affair with Maria Reynolds, and his subsequent hush-hush payoffs to Maria’s husband James, have backfired, and rumors are beginning to circulate that Hamilton has been not only cheating on his wife but also illegally speculating with federal funds. In 1797, he took to the press himself, publishing an outraged 98 pages under the title Observations on Certain Documents Contained in No. V & VI of “The History of the United States for the Year 1796,” In Which the Charge of Speculation Against Alexander Hamilton, Late Secretary of the Treasury, is Fully Refuted. Or, as it's commonly known, the Reynolds Pamphlet. It was printed in Philadelphia, and in the window below, you can read it page by page, courtesy of the New-York Historical Society. Two. Two-two two thousand. Two-two two thousand — 2016. A cast of wildly talented singers/rappers/actors, seemingly born to play the Founding Fathers and Mothers, in an unlikely Broadway hip-hop hit about the man who created the national bank. Lin-Manuel Miranda might be the genius composer, lyricist, and star of Hamilton, but the reason the show feels like one showstopper after the next is thanks to Leslie Odom Jr.'s layered portrayal of Aaron Burr, Renée Elise Goldsberry's acrobatic take on Angelica Schuyler, Christopher Jackson's powerful George Washington, and many more instant-classic performances. To find out what it's like to be part of a once-in-a-generation hit, Vulture sat down with Odom Jr., Goldsberry, and Jackson, as well as the equally brilliant two-part actors Daveed Diggs (Marquis de Lafayette/Thomas Jefferson) and Jasmine Cephas Jones (Peggy Schuyler/Maria Reynolds), as they ate dinner between shows at the classic Broadway staple Sardi's.
