The long-standing NCIS franchise is bringing its outstanding character back after his eventual departure in the original show’s season 19, and so far the upcoming spinoff has already so many things it needs to handle right to restore its reputation.
Not even having a specific release date yet, the brand new NCIS series titled NCIS: Origins has been heavily criticized months before its arrival on CBS, but a recent revelation coming from one of the show’s most significant actors seems to be serving as another beacon of hope for skeptical fans.
Taking viewers back to the 1990s, NCIS: Origins will follow NCIS’ iconic character and Special Agent in Charge Leroy Jethro Gibbs with a closer look at his personal and professional life.
Starring Austin Stowell as young Gibbs, the upcoming show is expected to dive deeper into the character’s background story, giving more details about his family and friends,...

The CBS fall 2024 season takes one of its most popular franchises back in time with NCIS: Origins. The NCIS prequel is set in 1991 and centers on a young Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Austin Stowell) earlier in his career as a special agent at the fledging (Nis) Naval Investigation Service’s Camp Pendleton, which eventually becomes the iconic NCIS division we know today. Gibbs joins a ragtag team led by Mike Franks, with Kyle Schmid stepping into the role originated in the flagship series by Muse Watson. The weight of taking on this legend is not lost on Schmid. It’s arguably the biggest gig to date for the Canadian who got his start on Disney Channel in the early ’00s and whose recent resume includes starring on the History military series Six and recurring on Syfy’s Being Human and ABC’s Big Sky. Despite being fatally stabbed in Season 8 of NCIS,...

After spending recent years suited up in the comic book world of the Arrowverse, Caity Lotz’s latest project is ripped from today’s headlines. The actress stars alongside real-life husband Kyle Schmid (NCIS: Origins) in Lifetime’s Yoga Teacher KIller: The Kaitlin Armstrong Story. When pro-cyclist Moriah “Mo” Wilson is found dead in 2022, an investigation points to Lotz’s Armstrong. The yoga teacher lived with her on-and-off boyfriend and pro gravel-racer in his own right, Colin Strickland (Schmid). Rage and jealousy overtook her after finding out about Wilson and Strickland’s affair. Knowing the authorities were hot on her heels, Armstrong fled the country leading to an international manhunt. There are, of course, twists and trunks along the way. Armstrong was ultimately found guilty of shooting Wilson and sentenced to 90 years in prison. Here Lotz and Schmid talk about what it’s like working together onscreen for the first time.

Wilhelm Schmid learned long ago that the best way to get a new A. Lange & Söhne watch to a city teeming with collectors of the coveted German luxury watch brand was to strap it on and deliver it personally.
“There’s no way in today’s world to ship a watch quickly from Geneva to [our headquarters in] Germany to America and wherever we might need the watch, so I carry them on my wrist,” Schmid, who has been the CEO of A. Lange & Söhne since 2011, tells The Hollywood Reporter.
His latest sojourn to the U.S. brought Schmid to San Francisco, where the brand has just opened an intimate boutique in the city’s popular Union Square district. But anyone looking for a traditional storefront should search beyond ideas of an expected retailer: A. Lange & Söhne’s new 1,539-square-foot salon is located on the third floor at 140 Geary St. — still a public space,...

The NCIS: Origins cast added another big piece of the puzzle.
An announcement was made that the producers added someone to play Gibbs’ dad – and they made a great choice.
The new show from the NCISverse is set in 1991, telling early stories from NCIS that revolve around Leroy Jethro Gibbs and Mike Franks.
Mark Harmon played Gibbs on NCIS, but the younger version of the character will be played by someone new.
Some NCIS fans felt that Mark Harmon’s son (Sean Harmon) could do the role, especially with how well he played a younger Gibbs in flashback episodes of NCIS.
Actor Austin Stowell is now playing Gibbs, which might be hard for some NCIS fans to accept.

Sales agency Taskovski Films has picked up “The Landscape and the Fury,” directed by Nicole Vögele, which will have its world premiere in the international competition at Visions du Réel.
The documentary, produced by Aline Schmid of Beauvoir Films, was shot on the Bosnian-Croatian border, which is also the outer border for the European Union. The film unveils the struggle of refugees navigating this treacherous terrain, where mines from the Balkan War lurk in the soil and political borders define lives. The refugees are brutally chased across the border out of the EU into the darkness of the woods. In Ravnice, the villagers know of the fate that awaits these refugees; they were once in their shoes. They provide them with a moment of respite and safety in the old school building, far away from official camps and NGOs.
Taskovski previously worked with Schmid and Vögele on their film “Closing Time.

Within the first few minutes of her remarkable directorial debut, “The Starling Girl,” writer-director Laurel Parmet skillfully lays out the impossible paradox that is evangelical Christian purity culture. Flushed and happy after joyfully performing a lyrical worship dance in front of the congregation, 17-year-old Jem Starling has powdered sugar wiped from her mouth by her mother Heidi so that she can be presented to the pastor’s son for potential courtship, right before another women pulls Jem aside to scold her for the visibility of her bra underneath her white dress.
It’s a brilliant sequence that immediately demonstrates the prison panopticon of expectations in which young Jem is trapped — being pushed by her parents into what is essentially an arranged marriage while being shamed and scorned for her body’s visibility. Jem’s sexuality is not her own, and it might never be within this closed patriarchal Christian community.
