Exclusive: The ninth installment of Fast & Furious is getting more muscle with Francis Ngannou. The Ufc fighter is joining Universal’s high-speed blockbuster franchise in a role that is being kept under wraps.
This isn’t the first Ufc fighter to join the franchise. Gina Carano appeared in Fast & Furious 6 while Ronda Rousey came in swinging in Furious 7. Details for the yet-to-be-titled Fast & Furious 9 have yet to be released — but do audiences really need a summary? Just give us a handful of crazy, gravity-defying chase scenes and a couple of moments where the Rock goes head-to-head with someone and everyone will be happy.
Also known as Francis “The Predator” Ngannou, the Ufc fighter #2 in the heavyweight division. Francis most recently beat Junior dos Santos with a 71 second knockout — making Francis have the most Ufc finishes in the heavyweight division. Francis won his previous fight...

When Alistair Overeem made his Ufc debut in 2011, he did it against the biggest opponent possible: former heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar. It was supposed to be a title eliminator, and Overeem won after a vicious blast to Lesnar’s midsection. Lesnar crumpled, not far removed from surgery for diverticulitis.
Overeem was on a huge high – briefly, before failing a drug test weeks removed from the fight. Though still within the window allotted time for testing as part of Overeem’s conditional license for the fight, the win for Overeem was not changed to a No Contest, though it could have been, and Lesnar did not contest the decision.
Since then, however, Mma fans have derided Overeem, most notably when he suffered crushing losses to Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva, Travis Browne, and Ben Rothwell. And Lesnar never seemed to leave his mind, despite Overeem’s win over the WWE star.

Ufc
There are two big Ufc events coming your way this weekend, and the second of them (we’ll cover more on the Tuf 20 finale once the fights are set following the final episode of the show) features the return to action of former heavyweight champion Junior Dos Santos, lightweight Nate Diaz, and long-absent Stefan Struve.
This is a big card for a Fox event, and if they don’t totally kill it with too many commercial breaks, it should be a pretty exciting one. That said, it could also be a very short event, with the three heavyweight bouts on the card all capable of ending in a quick knockout. Should that happen, the Ufc may be looking to bump up a fight from the preliminary card onto the main broadcast as a reply to fill time – and luckily, there are enough decent fights on the prelims for this to be doable.

Coming off a Pay-per-View that was really only saved by its main event (Ufc 179) and a pair of Ufc Fight Nights in a single weekend that couldn’t have been more different (the exciting Fight Night 55 and disappointing Fight Night 56), the Ufc returns with a conundrum of a card at Ufc 180. Plagued by injuries that saw Diego Sanchez and Joe Lauzon, amongst others, both depart from the card, and a critical injury to headliner and heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez, Ufc 180 has lost a lot of its shine – but there are still three key fights that have major relevance to the featherweight, welterweight and heavyweight divisions.
Not the least of these is the heavyweight division, where an interim heavyweight champion will be crowned. Since defeating Brock Lesnar years ago, Cain Velasquez has fought only two men, a total of five times between them: Antonio Silva (twice), and Junior Dos Santos...

It appears to be a trend these days – call out a former Ufc heavyweight champion who isn’t even in the promotion any longer, and who retired from the sport years ago. Get lots of media attention, and profit?
Alistair Overeem did it in February after a match against Frank Mir. Frank Mir himself did it earlier this month, saying he was looking for a rubber match to finish out their trilogy, which has Mir and Lesnar tied at one fight a piece.
Now it’s Shane Carwin, a fighter retired for several years who was plagued by injuries before hanging up the gloves (as well as plagued by a steroid scandal). Carwin fell victim to Lesnar at Ufc 116, being choked out by an arm-triangle in the second round after having Lesnar hurt in the first. It was not a good day for Ufc light heavyweight champion Jon Jones yesterday: at a hearing before the Nevada State Athletic Commission, the champion learned his fate stemming from an incident last month in which Jones provoked opponent Daniel Cormier into a brawl at a press conference for their then-upcoming Ufc 178 bout (the bout was later postponed when Jones went down to injury). The result? Jones was fined $50,000 U.S., and sentenced to 40 hours of community service.
For his part in the brawl, Cormier was fined $9,000 U.S. and sentenced to 20 hours of community service. The commission explained the discrepancy by saying that there was a “disparity in culpability” between the two. In essence, Jones provoked the brawl, which was caught on camera and became news fodder around the world, giving the sport yet another black eye in what has been a disastrous summer for the Ufc,...

The heavyweight division has (no pun intended) some of the biggest names in the Ufc, and a number of big fights have gone down, or been booked, recently. There are never enough big men in the organization’s ranks, however, and a lack of top prospects coming up means we often see the same old names fighting each other again and again. Think Junior Dos Santos and Cain Velasquez fighting three times within two years, or Velasquez meeting Bigfoot Silva twice within that same timeframe.
That’s just the title picture, however. Outside the champ, there are a lot of heavyweight fights we would like to see. A lot of them involve some of the top names in the division, while others involve legends. You have the likes to Josh Barnett, Andrei Arlovski, Alistair Overeem, Roy Nelson, Travis Browne, Mark Hunt, Stipe Miocic, and...

Mark Hunt and Roy “Big Country” Nelson will meet on September 20th, 2014 at Ufc Fight Night: Hunt vs. Nelson in a fight that Ufc and fight fans everywhere have been salivating over for years. It’s the irresistible force meeting the immoveable object. The Pride vet meeting the Ifl champion. The man who would not take a pay-day to walk away vs. the winner of The Ultimate Fighter Season 10.
All compelling reasons to watch, but what it boils down to is this: these two men are going to beat each other senseless for five rounds (or less) because they like to put on great fights for fans. This match isn’t going to be a super technical display of mixed martial arts prowess, although Hunt is a decent kickboxer, and Nelson is a black-belt in Jiu-jitsu who once forced Frank Mir to tap in a Bjj match. With PPV buyrates on the decline, the Ufc has been looking to network and cable television more and more over the past year, airing free fights via a lucrative deal with Fox which draw in solid ratings and advertising dollars. Anderson Silva sustained a match-ending leg injury in his Ufc Middleweight title fight against reigning champion Chris Weidman this weekend.
Anderson Silva Breaks Leg
Ufc 168 ended in the second round when Silva shattered his left leg during a kick aimed at Weidman. His shin visibly bent and left the fighter writhing in pain on the octagon floor. Weidman claimed his victory as medics rushed to care for Silva and his leg.
Although the way in which Silva went out was more than unfortunate, Weidman had taken an early lead in the first round and looked poised to defeat him for the second time in a row. Weidman first claimed the title over Silva back in July, upsetting the reigning middleweight champ who’d held on to the belt for seven years.

Cain and Junior went head-to-head for the third time on Oct. 19 for Ufc 166, and Cain made a conclusive statement, beating his arch-rival with a convincing Tko finish.
Cain Velasquez and Junior dos Santos headed into Ufc 166 on Oct. 19 with one win each under their belts — this third match would decide who the real Ufc champion was. And when the dust settled, and the blood stopped splashing down on the mat, Cain was the one to emerge triumphant.
Cain Velasquez Defeats Junior Dos Santos At Ufc 166
It doesn’t look like a fourth fight between these two is going to be necessary. Cain was clearly the better fighter at Ufc 166, as Junior struggled to keep up with his aggressive style and flurry of attacks.
“[The game plan] was the same as the last fight,” Cain told Espn after the match. “Pressure, but throw better punches. Crisper punches, so I could beat him to the punch.

The Ufc is building up some huge momentum coming up to the end of 2013 with massive matchups taking place on PPV, from the Rousey Tate rematch to another Gsp title fight and of course the very eagerly anticipated second matchup between Anderson Silva and Chris Weidman. First up however is the final act in an epic heavyweight championship trilogy.

Mma is widely acknowledged as one of the least predictable of any sport. The phrase ‘anything can happen in the Octagon’ has become idiomatic in the Ufc community as fans have all too often been left scratching their heads after one of the sport’s supposed greats has been beaten by someone everybody had cast off as a hack. Regardless of how dominant a champion is, put any adult male against them wearing flimsy 4-ounce gloves and they’ll still have a [very small] chance of connecting with a lucky shot: now substitute this every-man figure for an actual fighter who, despite being dismissed as the underdog, has still managed to ascend the heights of the sport’s premier promotion, the Ufc.
Everyone is mortal and anybody is capable of having an off-night. This unpredictability is part of the reason for the Ufc’s trailblazing expansion over the last 5 or so years...

With two big announcements made over the weekend regarding upcoming Ufc pay-per-views, it has become apparent that 2013 is indeed the year of the rematch. Eleven events remain in this calendar year – 6 of which are pay-per-views – and four of which are headlined by fighters who have met in the Octagon before. In fact, the year-end card – Ufc 168 – has now changed its’ main event fight into the co-main event, and this is also a rematch. Four of the upcoming five rematches have a belt on the line, though the stakes are also high in the non-title rematch of this list.
So, these facts are interesting, but what do they really mean? Is it now a case of the Ufc running out of ideas so they are settling with fights which have, as shown in the first (or in Velasquez-Dos Santos’ case second) fight, excited fans? Or is it simply unfinished business? For me,...

The Ufc has announced on Twitter today two huge match-ups to the upcoming Ufc on Fox 7 card on April 20, 2013 in San Jose, California.
The first is a thrilling unification match for the Ufc and Strikeforce Lightweight championships between the Ufc’s champion Benson Henderson (18-2) and the newly incoming Strikeforce champion Gilbert Melendez (21-2). Bendo is currently the #1 ranked Lw in the world with Gilbert Melendez ranked #2 as Frankie Edgar (14-3-1) departs the division to face Jose Aldo (21-1) at Featherweight. Even more enticing is that both fighters are ranked on the P4P list, as well. Benson is ranked #5 and Melendez is #8.
Joining them on this card is the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix winner and former Olympic wrestler, Daniel Cormier (11-0), facing off against former Ufc Champion and submission specialist Frank Mir (16-6). Daniel Cormier is one of the fastest rising stars in mixed martial arts after crushing...

The Ufc finished off 2012 in grand style as Cain Velasquez (11-1) retook his Heavyweight title from the very man that won it off of him a year ago, Junior Dos Santos (15-2). In episode 013 of the Getting Lucky Mma podcast, I am joined again by co-host Marcus Mitchell to review all the action and the low points of Ufc 155. In part 1, we review all of the prelims on the Facebook and FX undercards. On part 2, we move on to the main card.
Ufc 155 Prelim Review
Ufc 155 Main Card Review
Episode (#013) Summary
Facebook Card: The card started out with an exciting Flyweight match-up with John Moraga (12-1) taking a third round submission over #7 ranked Chris Cariaso (14-4). This certainly puts Moraga solidly into the top ten and likely puts him a fight away from being a true contender.
They were followed by split decision king, Leonard Garcia (15-10-1) against upcoming prospect Max Holloway (7-1). Surprisingly,...

In episode #012, we’re back to preview the upcoming Ufc pay-per-view event, Ufc 155: Dos Santos vs. Velasquez 2. I’m joined by my co-host, Marcus Mitchell, as we delve into the Facebook prelims, the FX prelims, and finally the main card in what is sure to be contender for the best of the year.
Episode Summary: There are several jewels hidden away in the undercard that are definitely worth watching. One of the very best is the Flyweight match-up between John Moraga (11-1) and #7 Chris Cariaso (14-3). Both of these fighters love to stand and bang. You can expect fireworks, but we give the slight edge to Moraga with his high level wrestling pedigree.
Next comes Leonard Garcia (15-9-1) vs. Max Holloway (6-1) in a Featherweight match-up. Garcia has lost three straight and his most recent wins have come off of highly controversial split decisions over the Korean Zombie and Nam Phan.

Couple of years ago Dana White –president of the Ufc- was saying that Mixed Martial Arts will become the best sport in the world and almost everyone started laughing. Fast forward to 2012 and no one does anymore.
This month marks the 19th birthday of the Ultimate Fighting Championship, the biggest Mma organization and the sport with the biggest rising popularity all over the world. Nobody really expected that the organization would survive for so many years especially when in the early days it was characterized as “human cockfighting” couple of years ago by Senator John McCain in the States.
However, many things changed since then and Ufc has gone from strength to strength. Last year they signed a seven year broadcast deal with Fox network essentially going mainstream which was an unbelievable success for the company. That was only the beginning, as the company found a big network with huge reach to show the fights,...

Snow White and the Huntsman star Charlize Theron was spotted ringside at the Ultimate Fighting Championship 146 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas Saturday. The actress, in a sleek black ensemble, looked on as mixed martial arts fighter Junior Dos Santos took down Frank Mir in a bloody battle. Earlier in the day, the new mom enjoyed a quieter activity: dinner with five friends at Spago restaurant. The group dined on an array of items, including crab cakes, prosciutto pizza and tuna sashimi. Theron was in Sin City to celebrate a friend's birthday before continuing on her Snow White press tour.

On December 30, 2011 at Ufc 141, Brock Lesnar entered the octagon for the eighth time against Alistair Overeem (36-11). Two minutes, twenty six seconds, and a liver kick later, the fight and Lesnar’s career were over.
In the post-match interview with Rogan, Lesnar humbly declared his retirement after two tough years of illness, surgery, and successive losses. He was an Ncaa champion, a professional wrestler, a failed football player, and now a retired cage fighter.
Its now our job to figure out what Brock and his short, but enigmatic career actually meant.
The Fighter
Brock is a free style wrestler. Or perhaps I should say, “was” because the last time he wrestled competitively prior to joining the Ufc was way back in 2000 when he was an All-American and National Champion for the Minnesota Golden Gophers. And nothing says bad ass like a gopher. Especially the golden ones.
With a 106-5 record in college and junior college,...

Pacquiao vs Marquez vs Ufc - Who Won?
Depending on which article you are reading, Ufc prez Dana White has varying thoughts about last nights show-down between free Ufc/Mma fighting and Pay-Per-View Boxing in the form of Pacquiao Vs Marquez. In some soundbites, White is non-confrontational, even suggesting that the Ufc even could potentially help sales of the Pacquiao Vs Marquez fight, whose faithfuls paid up to $65 to watch the rematch. In other quotes, White, as he is known to do, is loudly ringing the death bell of PPV boxing."Once the pay-per-view model came out, boxing stopped putting big fights on free TV, and I think it damaged the sport, so our goal is to bring big free fights back to television."
The rivalry between the sports of Boxing and Mma is nothing new, and the debates are more complex than you might think. For instance, the question...
