Amber Riley, who starred as Mercedes in “Glee,” revealed on the “And That’s What You Really Missed” podcast that she refused to film a sex scene with Chord Overstreet’s character Sam.
“I told [‘Glee’ co-creator] Brad [Falchuk], ‘Absolutely not,’” Riley shared with her former co-stars and podcast hosts Jenna Ushkowitz and Kevin McHale. “He gave me the blue pages or whatever. It was written. I said, ‘No.’”
Riley said there was a planned “full-blown” sex scene where Mercedes loses her virginity to her boyfriend, Sam. After Riley rejected the idea, Falchuk pitched a more toned down angle for the scene.
“He said, ‘Well what if we just, you know, have you guys hold hands and walk to the room and then like close the door,’” she said. “And I was just like, ‘No, I’m not doing it.’”
Riley continued, “I don’t tell y’all, no. I don’t fight on anything.

Glee alums Kevin McHale and Jenna Ushkowitz have revealed how the cast’s “bratty” behavior resulted in show co-creator Ryan Murphy refusing to come to set after the third season. Before he was known as the prolific producer-writer-director behind American Horror Story, Pose, American Crime Story, 9-1-1, Dahmer, and more, Murphy found one of his first major successes with Glee, the musical comedy-drama he co-created with Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan that aired for six seasons on Fox between 2009 and 2015. However, the show was often the center of controversy and behind-the-scenes drama between its cast and crew. Things are said to have gotten so bad that Murphy walked out after a particularly tense shoot during the making of Season 3 – and didn’t return. McHale and Ushkowitz detailed what happened on a recent episode of their Glee-based podcast series, And That’s What You Really Missed. The pair, who played Artie Abrams and Tina Cohen-Chang,...

The "Glee" cast and crew recently reunited in solidarity with the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes. On Aug. 23, stars including Heather Morris, Darren Criss, Jenna Ushkowitz, and Kevin McHale, as well as writers, producers, and choreographers for the hit television series joined the picket line in Burbank, CA. Marching alongside former coworkers, the group made sure to include a special shoutout to the late Naya Rivera, who played Santana Lopez on the show and died after a tragic boating accident in July 2020.
At the protests, a few of the picketers carried signage displaying famous one-liners from "Glee." Morris's sign featured Santana and her quote, "The only straight I am is straight-up broke," while former crew member Meg Doyle held up another screen grab of Santana saying, "I'm about to go all Lima Heights." Ushkowitz's sign also showed a snap of her character Tina Cohen-Chang saying, "I'm dehydrated from all the striking.

“We’re not allowed to talk about Scrubs.” That was the consensus that co-stars Zach Braff and Donald Faison reached almost immediately during the Aug. 1 episode of their Scrubs rewatch podcast, Fake Doctors, Real Friends. The pair, like many actors with thriving audio platforms, had been unsure of how to approach their side gig during the SAG-AFTRA strike and initially segued into repeats. Not only is there the obvious fear of speaking out of turn during Hollywood’s labor crisis — see recent foot-in-mouth comments from Stephen Amell, Jamie Lee Curtis and Zachary Levi, each of whom immediately backpedaled — podcasting is proving to be a strike gray area despite the union clearing up guidelines. Mostly.

Bob Saget’s tragic death in January 2022 was a key to healing a rift between John Stamos and the Olsen Twins.
The sequel to ’80s sitcom classic Full House was the Netflix series Fuller House, which ran for five seasons. The series featured all of Full House‘s original main characters except for the Olsens, who split the role in the earlier series.
Kevin McHale and Jenna Ushkowitz‘s And That’s What You Really Missed podcast saw Stamos reveal that he was angry initially at the perceived snub by the twins. He said he heard “rumors” that the twins hated being on the original show and felt it marred their childhood.
“When I did Fuller House, they didn’t want to come back and I was angry for a minute and that got out,” Stamos said.
But the Olsens and Stamos reconnected at Saget’s funeral, where the twins dispelled the rumors.

Cory Monteith’s Glee co-stars are remembering the late actor almost 10 years after his death and praising his acting skills.
Jenna Ushkowitz and Kevin McHale remembered the actor on the latest episode of their podcast And That’s What You Really Missed. The Glee alums recalled the Season 1 finale of the series with McHale saying he was “floored” by Monteith’s acting throughout “this whole episode.”
“He’s so good,” he added.
Ushkowitz had a similar sentiment noting, “So good. It’s ridiculous.”
McHale went on to say that he regrets not telling Monteith more often about his acting abilities during the time they worked together on the Fox series created by Ryan Murphy.
“We’re talking about this but what pisses me off is like he was such a good actor and I don’t think we necessarily told him that enough and like, the things we miss out...

Apparently, Madonna has a vendetta against Scorpios, at least according to Ryan Murphy.
Years ago, the Glee creator said he was contacted by Lakeshore Entertainment founder Tom Rosenberg, asking him to interview the Queen of Pop about her life for the 2000 film The Next Best Thing.
Madonna starred in the romance drama opposite Rupert Everett.
“I flew to New York and in the elevator ride up to meet Madonna for the very first time with Tom, he turned to me and said, ‘I forgot to ask you, when is your birthday?’” Murphy told Glee co-stars Jenna Ushkowitz and Kevin McHale on a new episode of their And That’s What You Really Missed podcast.

Kevin McHale wants to make one thing clear: the cast of "Glee" did not take part in the upcoming ID and Discovery+ docuseries "The Price of Glee," at least not that he knows of. Kevin McHale isn’t happy about The Price of Glee, an upcoming ID docuseries about the Fox musical comedy Glee, on which McHale played Artie Abrams. On Friday, December 9, after a Twitter user shared a Deadline post that said the docuseries will have access to “key” cast members, McHale tweeted, “Show me this ‘cast’ you speak of. This is [wastebasket emoji].” In another tweet minutes later, the actor wrote, “This was the nice version, [for the record]. Don’t make me speak on this again.” This was the nice version, ftr. Don’t make me speak on this again. — Kevin McHale (@druidDUDE) December 10, 2022 Fellow Glee alum Jenna Ushkowitz, who played Tina Cohen-Chang on Glee, commented on McHale’s second tweet with a grimacing-face emoji. According to ID, The Price of Glee “unpacks the cast members’ lives on and off set through never-before-seen interviews showcasing the demands of being on a hit TV series and dark behind-the-scenes drama.

Former “Glee” star Kevin McHale seemingly has nothing good to say about an upcoming docuseries that is set to examine the dark side of the beloved Fox musical comedy.
“The Price of Glee”, premiering Jan. 16 on Investigation Discovery and Discovery+, will delve into the sudden deaths of three of the series’ leads — Naya Rivera (Santana Lopez), Cory Monteith (Finn Hudson) and Mark Salling (Noah “Puck” Puckerman). Deadline notes that the documentary will also feature “key cast and crew members, who will share first-hand stories of their time on [“Glee”].”

The tale of two “Glee”s is examined in an upcoming docuseries.
ID’s “The Price of Glee” contrasts the extreme fame experienced by the young cast of the hit Fox high school musical series with the scandals that plagued its stars. Cory Monteith died during the series of an overdose; co-star Mark Salling later killed himself after child pornography was discovered in his possession. In 2020, Naya Rivera was missing for days before being found dead from drowning while on a boating trip with her son.
“In May 2009, 10 young actors made their TV debut on ‘Glee,'” the trailer states. “By 2020, all of them would be famous. And three of them would be dead.”
Using past interview clips of the featured cast members, including Monteith saying being on the series is “as fun as it looks,” plus exclusive interviews with family members like Rivera’s father, “The Price of Glee...

In a new appearance on the “And That’s What You Really Missed” podcast Thursday, hosted by her former co-stars Jenna Ushkowitz and Kevin McHale, Morris recalled a particular occasion in which Rivera followed her into her dressing room to confront her.
“I had developed an eating disorder. I stopped getting my period. “Glee” co-creator Ryan Murphy floated the idea earlier this month of a “Glee” reboot, saying enough time has passed since the Fox musical comedy’s original run that returning to the franchise is now more of interest to him. Should Murphy go ahead and reboot “Glee,” don’t expect to see actor Kevin McHale back as the lovable and loyal Glee club member Artie Abrams.
“I don’t know if Artie could be in it,” McHale told Insider about the potential reboot. “Knowing what we know now, I don’t think I should be playing a character that’s in a wheelchair. So, if they let me grow out of my beard and play a different character, I’ll do it.”
McHale has previously said that neither he nor the “Glee” production team “knew better” when he was cast as Artie. The character got into a car accident at 8 years old,...

"I think I may have drank a little too much" Vertical Entertainment has revealed an official trailer for an indie comedy titled Rosé All Day, directed by actress Marla Sokoloff. This just sounds like a good time! I'd love to relax and drink Rosé all day, too. A group of late-20s women gather for their annual "Rosé All Day" pool party, where the conversation flows as fast as the wine and the drama follows closely behind. However, after years of babies, careers and different life paths, the cracks in their relationships surface – becoming all-consuming sinkholes filled with vomit, tears and confessions. The humorous film stars Chelsea Alden, Jenna Ushkowitz, Veronica Dunne, Alice Hunter, Briana Cuoco, Cameron Kelly, Avery Norris. This looks like another of these bad Redbox rentals, something to stay away from, unless you also love rosé. ›››

‘Glee’ Creator Ryan Murphy Gets Candid About Cory Monteith’s Death, How The Show Handled His Passing
Ryan Murphy is opening up about the tragic passing of Cory Monteith and how his show, “Glee”, handled his untimely passing.
Murphy, who co-created the teen drama, centred around a high school show choir, appeared on the “Glee” re-watch podcast, “And That’s What You Really Missed”, where he got candid about the months leading up to the young actor’s death.
Monteith died at the age of 31 from a heroin and alcohol overdose in July 2013, and his character, Finn Hudson, passed not long after, in a tribute episode titled “The Quarterback.”
“I would not have done that show now. I just would not have done it,” Murphy told “Glee” alums Kevin McHale and Jenna Ushkowitz about making “The Quarterback” episode. “I felt like it was way too raw and way too soon.”

Ryan Murphy has admitted that Glee should have ended following the death of Cory Monteith.
The Canadian actor, who played the lead role of Finn Hudson on the musical comedy series, died in 2013 aged 31. An autopsy ruled that Monteith’s death had been caused by a mixture of heroin and alcohol and appeared to be accidental.
At the time, Glee was in its fifth season, with the third episode titled “The Quarterback” serving as a tribute to Monteith and his character Finn, who also died in the show.
After a three-month hiatus, Glee returned and completed season five, with a sixth and final season wrapping up in 2015.
Appearing on Monday (7 November) on Glee recap podcast And That’s What You Really Missed, which is hosted by regular cast members Kevin McHale and Jenna Ushkowitz, showrunner Murphy said that on reflection, the series should not have continued beyond Monteith’s death.

“Glee” co-creator Ryan Murphy thinks the Emmy-winning Fox musical series stayed on the air longer than it should have. During an interview on the “And That’s What You Really Missed” podcast, hosted by “Glee” cast members Kevin McHale (Artie Abrams) and Jenna Ushkowitz (Tina Cohen-Chang), Murphy said the show “probably” should have never come back after series regular Cory Monteith tragically died in July 2013 ahead of the show’s fifth season.
“If I had to do it again, we would’ve stopped for a very long time and probably not come back,” Murphy told Ushkowitz and McHale (via Entertainment Weekly).
Murphy added that if he found himself in the same position now, he would say “that’s the end.” The co-creator added, “Because you can’t really recover from something like that. It wasn’t a normal death where someone is sick, and you can see them. It happened so quickly with no warning.

If you're a certified Gleek, then you know that Will Schuster (a.k.a. Mr. Schue) is William McKinley High School's Spanish teacher turned extremely passionate choir director on "Glee," Fox's mega-hit about an underdog show choir and their rise to success. Mr. Schue (Matthew Morrison) enthusiastically leads the glee club through six seasons of ups and downs, but he may just be one of the creepiest characters to ever grace a television screen. His plucky, can-do charm often hides some of the more salacious aspects of his personality (just watch him in the background of any scene involving his female students dancing and you'll see what I mean), and I am still not and will probably never be over his rendition of "The Thong Song" which he performs at school for his engaged coworker, Emma (Jayma Mays) who just happens to show up in his classroom in her wedding...

Have you or someone you love been victimized by Glee‘s bombastic (and often wildly inappropriate) choir teacher Mr. Shue? Well, according to Glee showrunner Ryan Murphy, the Mr. Shue most people know (and didn’t love) wasn’t supposed to be played by actor Matthew Morrison. During an interview on And That’s What You Really Missed, a Glee podcast hosted by former cast members Kevin McHale and Jenna Ushkowitz, Murphy said that the role was originally intended for pop star Justin Timberlake. Yep, you read that right.

Glee: Ryan Murphy says Matthew Morrison’s Mr Schue was originally written as a ‘crystal meth addict’
Ryan Murphy has revealed that Glee was originally written to be much darker, with Mr Schuester’s character a supposed “crystal meth addict”.
Fox’s Emmy-winning musical series starred Matthew Morrison as Mr Schue, a Spanish teacher and director of the high school’s show choir.
On a recent appearance on the And that’s What you Really Missed podcast, hosted by Glee alums Jenna Ushkowitz (Tina Cohen-Chang) and Kevin McHale (Artie Abrams), creator Murphy discussed the early days of developing the show.
“We were having these conversations and I was trying to figure it out,” Murphy explained.
“Like serendipity, I went to the gym and I was in a towel and a guy went up and handed me a script and he said, ‘I had a feeling you were in show choir, am I right?’ And I was like ‘Yeah.’ And he said, ‘My friend wrote this script and you should read it.

Ryan Murphy’s “Glee” was known for its pop sensibility and optimistic tone, but that’s not exactly what the original script was like for the Emmy-winning Fox musical series. Murphy guested on the first episode of the “And That’s What You Really Missed” podcast, hosted by “Glee” cast members Kevin McHale (Artie Abrams) and Jenna Ushkowitz (Tina Cohen-Chang), and he spoke about trying to crack an idea for a musical show shortly after signing a first look deal with Fox.
“We were having these conversations and I was trying to figure it out,” Murphy said (via Insider). “Like serendipity, I went to the gym and I was in a towel and a guy went up and handed me a script and he said, ‘I had a feeling you were in show choir, am I right?’ And I was like ‘Yeah.’ And he said, ‘My friend wrote this script and you should read it.

Discovery+ and ID have ordered a three-part docuseries that will explore the real story behind the string of controversies associated with Glee.
Produced by Ample Entertainment, the documentary will include first-hand accounts from key cast and crew members who worked on Fox’s six-season singing drama, which ran from 2009 to 2015.
The untitled project will address the controversies including the child pornography case of Mark Salling, who portrayed Puck.
Salling was arrested and found guilty in 2017 of possessing over 50,000 images of child sex abuse. He later died by suicide at age 35 in 2018 while awaiting sentencing.
Five years after the series ended, Lea Michele, who played Rachel Berry, was accused by former co-star Samantha Marie Ware of making her life a “living hell” due to “traumatic microaggressions” on the set of the show.
Ware’s allegations then ignited several otherGlee alumni to speak out against Michele’s alleged “bullying”.

When “Glee” premiered on Fox in 2009, it instantly became a ratings success and an object of intense fandom. But between the deaths of young stars Cory Monteith, Mark Salling and Naya Rivera, and the allegations of on-set bullying on the part of series lead Lea Michele, the show has become just as well known for the drama surrounding its production as its actual plotlines.
Those controversies will be explored in a new three-part documentary series ordered by the streamer Discovery+. Currently untitled, the series is produced by Ample Entertainment, best known for producing documentary series such as this year’s “The Invisible Pilot” on HBO. ID Productions serves as an additional producer on the docuseries.
