Maybe. We'd support congressional ambitions from Tina Fey, Holland Taylor or possibly that guy who played Balki on Perfect Strangers. (We like his fiscal policy.) But Fran Drescher? The former star of The Nanny would like to take over the Senate seat being given up by Hillary Clinton, and—ditch the laugh track—she ain't kidding. Her publicist confirmed this, releasing a statement saying Drescher's experience as an "actress, women's health advocate and public diplomacy envoy for the U.S. State Department" qualified her for consideration. There was no reference to her role in Spinal Tap, which we consider a serious omission. What say you? Is she only qualified for...

We have some new images from Ben Stiller’s return to the his watchman position in Night At The Museum: Battle Of The Smithsonian. This time around, Larry must find his artefact friends Octavius (Steve Coogan) and Jedediah (Owen Wilson) who have been taken to the Smithsonian Institute in Washington DC by mistake. Ricky Gervais reprises his role as Dr. McPhee and Dick Van Dyke is back as Cecil. Other crazy characters in the new museum include Amelia Earhart played by Amy Adams, Hank Azaria as Kah Mun Rah, Ivan the Terrible played by Spinal Tap’s Christopher Guest, and Napoleon Dynamite’s Bill Hader as General George Armstrong Custer. Also popping up to scupper Larry’s plans are Napoleon and Al Capone.Click the image above to view the full gallery on USAToday.com Night At The Museum 2: Battle Of The Smithsonian is out in May 2009.

Halloween 2008 was an exceptionally nice night in NYC. I’ve been out on some Halloweens past where the weather was bleak, the prevailing mood on the street was anything but festive, and the costumes were no more than a poor excuse to dress slutty or to hide the identity of a person whose only intention was to hopefully not get arrested.
On this night, however, the air was pretty fresh for Times Square—which is to say not all that clean but tolerable—the mood was rather light-spirited and playful and people genuinely looked like they were out to have a fun time and not kill each other in the spirit of the holiday.
Halloween presents a very interesting conundrum to a lot of people. What do you do on this one night of endless things to do? It was simpler when you were a child, of course, as your parents dictated what to do,...

Disney Xd, the network that will launch in February following the rebranding of Toon Disney, has greenlighted a live-action pilot about a rock band from creators Michael Kaplan and Ron Rappaport.
The multicamera project, titled "I'm With the Band," centers on a tween boy who gets hired as the lead guitar player for a Spinal Tap-type band that was popular in the '80s and is looking to make a comeback.
Veteran sitcom director Shelley Jensen, whose credits range from Disney Channel's "Hannah Montana" to "The Jamie Foxx Show" and "The Drew Carey Show," is on board to helm the pilot.
Kaplan is executive producing, with Rappaport serving in a producing capacity.
Kaplan, who has worked on such sitcoms as "Frasier" -- for which he shared a best series Emmy in 1997 -- and "Girlfriends," is repped by Icm and attorney Peter Nelson. Rappaport (MTV's "Next") is repped by Icm.

Shot through the history of comedic cornerstones like The Simpsons, Saturday Night Live and Spinal Tap is comedian Harry Shearer. His newest project, Songs of the Bushmen, takes musical aim at the Bush Administration, lampooning Colin Powell (“Smooth Moves”), Paul Wolfowitz (“Wolf on the Run”) and Karl Rove (“Turd Blossom Special”) amongst others. The album’s cover even features a portrait of George W. Bush with a bone through his nose—offending Clear Channel enough to get banned from billboard advertisements.

Rob Reiner is switching gears, directing his first action-adventure movie, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Reiner, whose career had really been foundering over the past fifteen years before The Bucket List became a smash, is on board to helm Book of Shadows, which, we take it, is somehow different from the sequel to The Blair Witch Project that also bears the name.
The story goes that Reiner had a basic idea he'd been kicking around, and he brought it up in a meeting with writer Zoë Green. Green, in turn, wrote the screenplay around that idea and sold it to Castle Rock, the production house co-founded by Reiner back in the 1980s.
Here are the basics: A young male protagonist, "a perilous journey of first love" (whatever the hell that is), a dangerous quest, and a mythical book that can restore balance to the world.
Man, there was a time...

Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones, and Jason Bonham reportedly give their frontman Robert Plant an ultimatum, saying that if he refuses to re-join Led Zeppelin on their comeback tour, he will then be replaced by a new singer. "They will be finalizing plans for shows over the next couple of months and will tell Robert that if he doesn't want to be involved they will go ahead without him," a source says.
Speaking of the possible reunion, the source reveals that the three members of the band "are determined a tour will go ahead next year" and there's an American guy who has been standing in for Robert regularly and doing a great job. The source close to the band states, "They've been rehearsing frequently in London and the band is really gelling."

Oasis have warned new member Chris Sharrock that they are trying to "break Spinal Tap's record" for the number of drummers they use. Noel Gallagher joked about the band's quick turnover of percussionists during their comeback gig in Seattle on Tuesday. Sharrock is the Manchester band's fourth full-time drummer, following on from Tony McCarroll, Alan White and Zac Starkey. Steve White and Terence (more)...

Entertainment Weekly has named the best comedies of the past 25 years, so you know what that means: Your opinion doesn't count for squat, even to yourself.
No, seriously, shut the eff up - Entertainment Weekly has spoken. These are the top 25 comedies of the past quarter century. So it is written, so it shall be done.
All kidding aside, it's a pretty good list, with the exception of Beverly Hills Cop being rated so high. It's not funnier than Spinal Tap. Sorry. It's just not. Speaking of the Tap, Christopher Guest is the King of Comedy, with his co-starring role in that film joining two of his directorial efforts - Waiting For Guffman (#13) and Best In Show (#20) - on the countdown.
Ben Stiller and Vince Vaughn both placed two films on the list, with There's Something About Mary hitting number seven. Curiously, Tropic Thunder made the top 20. I loved that movie,...

Wondering what that pic ture in Mick Jagger's attic looks like? We have an answer: David Crosby.
"Csny: Déjà Vu" is a concert-film documentary about Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young's highly speechified 2006 anti-war tour, in which they tried to sell (at $350 a ticket) the idea that since a war was going on again, their new songs were worth hearing and their classics worth revisiting.
The band's harmonies have crumbled and their new songs sound like paint being chipped off an aluminum shed with a garden rake. Their hits would sound better on the...

Christopher Guest is taking it up to 11 for Fox's sequel to "Night at the Museum."
The "Spinal Tap" star has joined the cast as Ivan the Terrible for the comedy adventure, officially titled "Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian."
Also joining the cast are Jon Bernthal (Al Capone), Bill Hader (Gen. George Armstrong Custer) and French actor Alain Chabat (Napoleon).
The film, directed by Shawn Levy, reunites lead Ben Stiller with castmates Robin Williams, Ricky Gervais and Owen Wilson.
Robert Ben Garant and Thomas Lennon, who penned both "Museum" films, will make a cameo in the sequel, playing the Wright brothers.
"Museum" was a boxoffice success for Fox, grossing $574 million worldwide. With the Smithsonian as the centerpiece, the studio and Levy kicked the current production up a notch by getting the rare chance to film portions of the movie in the Smithsonian Institute in Washington.
The film is shooting in Vancouver, with a behind-the-scenes team that includes director of photography John Schwartzman ("Pearl Harbor"), editors Don Zimmerman and Dean Zimmerman ("Rush Hour 3"), production designer Claude Pare ("The Aviator") and costume designer Marlene Stewart ("Tropic Thunder").
