Andrew Bird and Squirrel Nut Zippers founder Jimbo Mathus have reunited to release a new song, “Sweet Oblivion” from their upcoming collaborative album, These 13, out March 5th via Thirty Tigers.
“Sweet Oblivion” arrives with a clip of Bird and Mathus performing the track against a gorgeous backdrop landscape in Ojai, California. Filming of the project will take place between Lanzarote, Hamburg and Luxembourg from February 2021 until the beginning of April. Luxembourg's Laura Schroeder is now preparing her new project, a drama entitled Maret. The helmer, an alumna of the Sorbonne and of Beaconsfield's National Film and Television School, is best known for Barrage (2017), Luxembourg's bid for the best foreign language film at the 90th Academy Awards. The script of Maret, penned by the director herself, follows the titular woman, played by German actress Susanne Wolff. A groundbreaking brain surgery to be performed in a clinic in Lanzarote may be her only hope to get her memory back. The problem is: does she really want to remember the person she once was? The technical crew attached to the project includes DoP Laurent Brunet, editor Andrew Bird, composer Pascal Schumacher, sound designer Carlo Thoss, production designer Christina Schaffer,...

The National’s Matt Berninger appeared on Monday night’s Tonight Show to perform a cover of the Velvet Underground’s “I’m Waiting for the Man.” (Host Jimmy Fallon erroneously introduced it as a track from Berninger’s debut solo album Serpentine Prison — we wish.)
In the spirited pre-taped performance, Berninger mustered up his best baritone voice to channel Lou Reed’s desperate heroin addict, traveling uptown to Harlem to purchase a $26 bag of the good stuff. It’s not really the type of cover you can imagine the National pulling off,...

Andrew Bird has released a new song, “Christmas in April,” which he wrote back at the start of the Covid-19 pandemic as he imagined what the holiday season might look like during quarantine. The track will appear on Bird’s new holiday album, Hark!, out Friday, October 30th via Loma Vista.
“Christmas in April” is a bittersweet acoustic tune, and while it boasts a charming self-referential quality, it doesn’t lay on the particulars of the pandemic too thick, allowing the song to sit more in the rich tradition of lonely holiday tunes.

“I’m near the bottom/Name the blues, I’ve got ‘em,” the National frontman Matt Berninger sings on the delicately despondent “Oh, Dearie,” from his debut solo LP. It’s a song about being completely asphyxiated by fear and doubt — certainly a message for our times. But don’t call the crisis hotline just yet. The music is more reassuringly cozy than last-ditch dire, with the singer pouring his enveloping, care-worn baritone over softly illuminating piano and a “Dust in the Wind” acoustic figure. The sound is par for...

It’s 7 a.m. in Venice, and Matt Berninger has already been up for four and a half hours. Why? The National frontman and his wife, Carin Besser, are still polishing up songs for Cyrano, a years-long musical project based on the 1897 play about the life of a 17th-century French writer. Besser, who writes best at night, had been working on the songs until 2:30 a.m., at which point Berninger woke up and spent the dark hours of the morning finishing up what she started.

This Fargo review contains no spoilers.
Time has become an odd thing to track throughout the coronavirus pandemic, but it still seems hard to believe that it’s been over three years since the last season of Noah Hawley’s Fargo wrapped on FX. Fargo season 3 was often ponderous, existential, and meandering. It also routinely gave off a vibe that Hawley was growing tired of the Midwest, Coen-worshipping box that he had placed himself in. Perhaps time away from the anthology series allowed Hawley to return with a bit more energy, but also a narrower focus. Instead of a twisty-turny story fueled by happenstance and bad luck, Fargo season 4 is a ‘50s-set, pulpy tale of two warring Kansas City gangs. Some may call this season’s story timely, but it would be relevant in any era of American history. This is a tale of immigrants, race, and what it means to be an American.

The National’s Matt Berninger has shared a new song, “One More Second,” from his upcoming debut solo album, Serpentine Prison, out October 2nd via Book Records.
The song starts out as a minimal and meditative acoustic tune, but soon expands with shuffling drums, rich organ, blooming backing vocals and even a tasteful — and slightly off-kilter — piano solo. “Give me one more second to dry my eyes,” Berninger sings, “Give me one more day to realize/Smoke’s in our eyes or in the distance/Either way, we’re gonna miss it.

Fargo creator Noah Hawley is one of the busiest men in Hollywood right now, which means the award-winning series was put on hitaus longer than fans anticipated. Thankfully, FX brought Hawley back for Fargo Season 4, brandishing the intriguing cast addition of Chris Rock, who will be the lead in this installment of the anthology series.
While Fargo Season 3 was another ratings winner for FX, some critics of the show believe that the premise has gone stale. Though we largely enjoyed the quieter, more personal third season, we have to admit that the routine runs the risk of getting tired. Fargo Season 4 certainly will be speculated on by fans and critics wondering what shape it will take when it returns.

It may have taken a while after a Covid-caused production shutdown, but Fargo‘s intriguing, Chris Rock-fronted fourth season has finally procured a premiere, with FX having officially set a September release date.
Fargo Season 4 will premiere on FX on Sunday, September 27 at 10 p.m. Et/Pt, on which the first two episodes will air. Subsequent episodes will premiere on the same Sunday timeslot individually on a weekly basis. Streamers will be interested to know that each new episode will hit Hulu the day after their FX premieres.
The release date announcement occurs after the Chicago production of Fargo was one of several to be shut down back in March. Despite having only two episodes left to shoot, the shutdown resulted in a delay to the fourth season’s original April 19 release date; a move likely designed to avoid a situation similar to shows like AMC’s The Walking Dead...

Fargo's fourth season will see the light of day this fall, it has been announced.
Months after being bumped from its April 19 premiere date due to the coronavirus pandemic, FX has confirmed when the series will return.
Sunday, September 27 is the lucky day.
Even more exciting, we're getting back-to-back episodes that day. The fun kicks off at 10/9c, and fans who watch on Hulu will be able to stream the next day.
Hooray, right?
Fargo Season 4 picks up in 1950, at the end of two great American migrations - that of Southern Europeans from countries like Italy, who came to the US at the turn of the last century and settled in northern cities like New York, Chicago - and African Americans who left the south in great numbers to escape Jim Crow and moved to those same cities - you saw a collision of outsiders, all fighting for a piece of the American dream.

FX has finally settled on a premiere date for season 4 of “Fargo.”
Season 4 was originally scheduled to debut in April, but was delayed for five months “due to the postponement of production related to the coronavirus.” It will now premiere with back-to-back episodes on Sunday, Sept. 27, with the remaining nine episodes airing weekly from there. Production on the fourth installment, which is headlined by Chris Rock, is scheduled to resume later this month, per FX.
Described as a story of immigration and assimilation and the things we do for money, the fourth season of “Fargo” is set in 1950 in Kansas City, Missouri, where two criminal syndicates — one Italian, one African-American — have struck an uneasy peace. To cement their truce, Loy Cannon (Rock), the head of the African American crime family, trades his youngest son Satchel (Rodney Jones), to his enemy Donatello Fadda (Tommaso Ragno), the head of the Italian mafia.

There’s still no release date for the fourth season of the widely acclaimed “Fargo,” but FX Networks’ latest teaser for the upcoming season promises an installment as hilarious as it is action-packed.
The new teaser, titled “Big Fish,” primarily consists of criminals threatening violence, interspersed with slapstick comedy — be it four adults awkwardly hanging out on see-saws or someone haplessly tripping on a pile of snow. The 30 seconds of material offer little in the way of revealing plot details, but there’s more than enough gun-toting and goofiness to warrant plenty of excitement for the upcoming season, whenever it ends up premiering.

The anticipated fourth season of FX’s anthology series “Fargo” will no longer premiere in April as planned.
“Due to the postponement of production related to the coronavirus, the fourth installment of FX’s award-winning limited series ‘Fargo’ will no longer premiere on Sunday, April 19th,” FX Networks said in a statement. “A new premiere date will be determined once production resumes.”
The news means that the fourth season of the series, which will see Chris Rock star in a major role, will more than likely not be eligible for the 2020 Emmy Awards. It would need to air the majority of its episodes ahead of May 31 in order to qualify. The show is one of dozens that has suspended production amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Nearly three years will have passed by the time Season 4 of FX’s “Fargo” premieres in April, and audiences should prepare themselves for a version of the series never before seen.
Not only has “Fargo” left the wilds of Alberta to film stateside — in Chicago, specifically — but the season is set firmly in the past, lending the show some period piece bonafides it only flirted with in prior seasons. And it would be remiss to not mention the most significant adjustment to the DNA of the series: the diversification of a cast whose pallor too-often resembled the the snowy fields of winter in Minnesota.
Also, there are so many hats.
“This year, we’re really looking at the origins of the American capital crime, which is the exploitation of cheap labor,” Hawley explained of the upcoming season. “It took a long time for those people working to break into what we consider mainstream America.
