GOP Rep. Mike Collins Praises Ole Miss Counter-Protesters Who Taunted Black Pro-Palestinian Activist
Counter-protesters mocked pro-Palestine demonstrators at the University of Mississippi. In footage posted online, white students were caught on video taunting a black protester. Rep. Mike Collins (R-Georgia) praised the white students’ actions.
“Ole Miss taking care of business,” Collins posted on X.
Viewers criticized the white students and Collins’ stance on the situation, calling him out for supporting “racist” actions. In the video, one white student made monkey noises and obscene gestures at a female black graduate student. Police escorted the student while the others taunted her.
University of Mississippi sociology professor James M. Thomas posted to X, “Students were calling for an end to genocide. They were met with racism.”
Separate footage also showed a crowd of about 200 people singing “The Star-Spangled Banner” over pro-Palestine chants. The students called for the end of Israel’s attacks on Gaza and for the United States to stop funding weapons. Some counter-protesters waved Trump 2024 flags.

Cult classic sitcom Green Wing has been resurrected as a podcast with the original cast and creative team.
Back in 2004, fresh from the success of sketch show Smack The Pony, writer Victoria Pile created Green Wing, a sitcom set in a hospital.
With an ensemble cast that included Tamsin Greig and Stephen Mangan – who would later reunite to star opposite Matt LeBlanc in Episodes – the comedy is helped enormously by committed clowning the cast, particularly Mark Heap and Michelle Gomez. The show ran for two series from 2004 to 2006 and, in a move more in common with American sitcoms, had a large pool of writers.
After the show ended, the same creative team made the terrific University comedy Campus in 2009, which despite only running for one series is well worth tracking down, especially for the tour de force performance from Andy Nyman as megalomaniacal monster and Vice Chancellor Jonty De Wolfe.

Ramy Youssef recently opened up about his experience directing the “Honeydew” episode of The Bear season two, which saw Lionel Boyce’s Marcus journey to Copenhagen to create three items for The Bear’s dessert menu.
The Poor Things star stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live! and explained that while helming the episode, he and Boyce were able to spend a day working at Noma, which was voted the best restaurant in the world every year from 2010-12 and then again in 2014.
“They let me and Lionel work there for a day, which we’ve never [done],” Youssef told Jimmy Kimmel. “We got to work from the beginning of the day, all the way through dinner service. We got to prep. We got to serve people food and make plates.”
He continued, “It’s really kind of sad actually because it’s a table that some people wait a year for, and...

Elvis Presley grew up to become one of the world’s biggest stars, but he did not have an easy time on his high school football team. According to Elvis’ high school classmate turned bodyguard, Red West, few of the football players liked Elvis. The team’s coach was not kind to him either. According to West, the football coach shamed Elvis so much that he barely lasted a few weeks on the team.
Elvis’ football coach had it out for him
When Elvis was in high school, most of his classmates had closely cropped hair. He stood out among them with the long hair he spent hours styling. According to West, this brought him a great deal of negative attention.
“It was that hair, man — it got him into all kinds of trouble,” West said in the book Elvis: What Happened? by Steve Dunleavy. “If he had a regular...

Bunk’d, which is currently the Disney Channel’s longest running sitcom, is to conclude after the seventh series.
From early 2000s classics like Even Stevens and Lizzie McGuire to The Suite Life franchise, That’s So Raven and the hugely succesful Hannah Montana (which was spun off into feature film Hannah Montana: The Movie in 2009), Disney’s formula of well cast, high concept sitcoms has put it at the top of the tween sitcom tree for several decades.
One of its more recent successes was Jessie, which provided a star vehicle for Debby Ryan after several years in The Suite Life On Deck.
The show saw Ryan play the titular character, who acted as a nanny for three kids – Zuri, Ravi, Luke and Emma, played by Skai Jackson, Karen Brar, Cameron Boyce and Peyton List, respectively. Jessie grew into one of Dusney’s most popular shows and eventually ran from 2011 to 2015.

The Monkees‘ “I Wanna Be Free” is strikingly similar to The Beatles’ “Yesterday.” That was no accident. One song has a more universal meeting than the other but they’re both great.
The Monkees’ ‘I Wanna Be Free’ has strings like The Beatles’ ‘Yesterday’
Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart were regular songwriters for The Monkees under the name Boyce & Hart. In his 2015 book Psychedelic Bubble Gum: Boyce & Hart, The Monkees, and Turning Mayhem Into Miracles, Hart discussed the origin of “I Wanna Be Free.” “Tommy looked up at me and sang me his first lines with an original melody, ‘I wanna be free, don’t say ‘You love me’ say ‘You like me.’
“He said ‘I don’t know where to go next,'” Hart wrote. “‘It’s cool,’ I said, but it sounds more like a second verse to me. Maybe we should try to paint some pictures first...

Movies and TV shows regularly come and go from streaming services; we all know this, but the trend has taken a disturbing turn in the past year, with content being pulled, sometimes permanently, just to save a few bucks. I know, it’s just business, but for the hundreds of creatives who have had their hard-work yanked from existence, it hurts. Disney+ has taken things to a new level as they have pulled Crater from the service, a movie which was released on May 12th… less than two months ago.
There’s no official word on why Crater was removed from Disney+, but The Independent believes that it’s “an attempt to cut costs relating to licencing deals.” The decision has sparked an outcry on social media, with some wondering why they’re paying for the service that can’t even keep their own content.

Spoiler Alert: This story contains spoilers for Season 2 of “The Bear,” now streaming on Hulu.
Though production on Season 2 of “The Bear” was well underway before Ramy Youssef traveled to Copenhagen to direct the fourth episode, series creator Chris Storer was slow to bring him fully behind the curtain.
“He didn’t let me watch anything they had shot [in the first three episodes]. He was like, ‘No, no. You can see it when you come back, but just make this what you think it should be,'” Youssef remembers.
Youssef is the first and only person to serve as a director on “The Bear” besides Storer and his co-showrunner Joanna Calo. When a tight production timeline made it impossible for Storer or Calo to direct in Copenhagen on top of nine Chicago-set episodes, Youssef was Storer’s first choice. Spoiler Alert! This post contains details from Season 2 of FX’s The Bear.
Order up! Season 2 of FX’s hit series The Bear has debuted on Hulu, reconnecting with Carmy (Jeremy Allen White), Sydney (Ayo Edebiri) and the rest of the crew as they work toward opening their new restaurant.
While the latter half of the season takes viewers back to the fast-paced, anxiety inducing world of the kitchen, the first few episodes take the opportunity to dig deeper into the lives of the other characters, including Lionel Boyce’s Marcus. The first episode gives a glimpse into Marcus’ life outside the kitchen, as he sits next to his ill mother, who is unconscious in a hospital bed.
Episode 4 dives deeper into Marcus’ story, when Sydney and Carmy send him to Copenhagen to learn from chef Luca (Will Poulter) and return with dessert idea’s for the menu at The Bear.

[This story contains spoilers from season two, episode four of The Bear, “Honeydew.”]
In season two of The Bear, Lionel Boyce’s Marcus goes on a journey.
It’s both external and internal, as bottle episode “Honeydew” sees Marcus reluctantly leave his ailing, nonverbal mother and travel beyond the borders of Chicago for the first time to stage in Copenhagen under a chef named Luca (Will Poulter). He’s there to create three dishes for The Bear’s dessert menu. But the experience — like those of his fellow staff at The Beef — delivers on more than just a meal.
Marcus’ intense experiences in and out of the kitchen “ignite” the rest of his season two journey, Boyce tells The Hollywood Reporter, and help him to understand arguably his biggest lesson so far: That “you make with heart, not with skill.” It’s an emotional episode, directed by Ramy Youssef, that underscores The Bear’s return not as the fast-paced, anxiety-inducing...

This Star Trek: Strange New Worlds article contains spoilers.
Some of the greatest Star Trek episodes of all time take place in a courtroom. From the epic two-part Original Series classic “The Menagerie” to “The Measure of a Man” in The Next Generation to Deep Space Nine‘s “Inquisition” and even the memorable trials in the films The Voyage Home and The Undiscovered Country, putting Star Trek characters up against the outer space laws of the future tends to create memorable and moving storylines. In Strange New Worlds season 2’s “Ad Astra Per Aspera,” that tradition continues with the trial of Number One, aka Commander Una Chin-Riley. It’s a smart, moving episode that breaks some new philosophical ground for Trek, but also will remind longtime fans about what the franchise is all about: unpacking tricky ethical questions in a sci-fi setting.
But this episode is also deeply steeped in Trek lore and references.

There’s a convenient little portrait of exactly how “The Bear” has progressed, and what it’s pulled off, in the first shot of the Season 2 finale. The episode opens with a virtuosic, 12-minute long take that is, intentionally, a rejoinder to the 18-minute single take from the first season’s penultimate episode. Whereas the Season 1 shot maneuvered through the crumbling hellscape that is the sandwich shop known as The Beef, this one weaves through the carefully controlled chaos and polished corners of the newly opened, high-end establishment The Bear.
That juxtaposition is the easy answer to what the sophomore season of “The Bear” is about, as Carmy (Jeremy Allen White), Sydney (Ayo Edibiri), and the ragtag Beef crew pick up right from where we left off and get to building an ambitious new restaurant.
But in a season that is in many ways a complete, daring reinvention of “The Bear” — remarkably,...

Four years after establishing itself as an influencer agency focused on diversity, Kensington Grey has made one of its biggest signings to date. The talent management firm has partnered with Raye Boyce, who reaches nearly two million subscribers on her ItsMyRaeRae YouTube channel.
Boyce broke out on YouTube by sharing beauty and style content. Her product reviews, which often include rhyming titles like “Hot or Not,” “Hack or Wack,” and “Cash or Trash,” rank among her most popular videos. Since giving birth to a daughter named Zoe in 2019, Boyce has begun posting family content alongside her best looks.
As a Kensington Grey client, Boyce will join a talent roster that includes dozens of creators across categories like fashion, beauty, and parenting. The Black-owned agency was established in 2019 to serve as “a direct answer to the lack of representation within the industry.”
In a statement, Boyce touted Kensington Grey as an “extremely organized and professional” firm.

This Star Trek: Strange New Worlds article contains spoilers.
As a prequel to The Original Series, nearly every minute of Strange New Worlds could, arguably, be considered some kind of Star Trek easter egg. Just being on the classic Enterprise is a reference to the existence of The Original Series. Ethan Peck’s Spock just doing anything could also scan as an easter egg.
So, where does one start with references in Strange New Worlds? For the Season 2 premiere, “The Broken Circle,” we tried to make it easy. Here are the most obvious, stand-out easter eggs and references in the episode. These were the moments that probably made you say “is that…?” or “what did they mean by…?” It’s a big episode, with lots of callbacks, so start working on your warp catchphrase, and let’s hit it.

With schools finishing up for their big Summer break many of those kids are dreaming of getting away for a while. How about the ultimate “getaway” from …the planet? It’s not that wild of a fantasy, as this new Disney+ adventure flick offers a look at a colony, almost a small city, on the moon, our big destination for over 50 years now. But how do the kids living up there take a break from the indoors (with plenty of oxygen)? Well, for the five kids in this story, they’re itching to sneak away for a fun frolic at a nearby (it’s not really a walk) Crater.
When the film begins, those kids are sneaking around the transport bay under the dome of an underground lunar colony in the not-too-distant future. The loudspeakers are blaring out an alert that a meteor shower is imminent so everyone needs to...

The second night of the 5th annual Ata Film & Video Festival groups its short films under the heading “Lo-Fi Future,” which couldn’t be more apt for this selection.
Several of the films are literally just that, lo-fi visions of the future. Without any special effects whatsoever, these films tell us they take place in the future either just verbally, or through just shooting at unique locations. Other films, though, explore the “future” in a different way, by showing the effect progress has on culture, but through abstract means.
Wasteland, dir. Kathleen Quillian. Quillian brilliantly uses cut-out animation to illustrate the modern food chain, which starts from crop dusting fields and ends with automobiles blowing exhaust into the atmosphere. In between, cows are injected with hormones then are decapitated and chubby suburbanites pig out on hamburgers until they need to control their cholesterol with prescription medication that they wash down with beer.
