This week Silent Scream looks at the dark obsession student Jim Martin had with Jane Vogler (Trenka) and how it almost turned deadly. Jane Vogler was an adopted Korean scholarship student studying in Minnesota, but her world started to turn a bit crazy when a fellow student made unwanted advances towards her. Jim Martin was a bit of a awkward character and when Jane turned him down he continued his obsession with her via a video project he was working on. One night the family were alerted to a noise in the basement and her father spotted Martin running away...read more...

Artist Kasra Farahani has released some truly stunning concept art for the BioShock movie that never was, after the video game adaptation was canned at Universal Studios following budget problems.
The artwork, which you can feast your eyes on in the gallery below, depicts a wonderful and wholly on-point visualization of Rapture, along with the Little Sisters and towering, mechanized Big Daddies. Alas, this isn’t the first time that we’ve been exposed to concept art from the cancelled film, after artist Jim Martin took to his own website to post his personal rendition of life under the sea.
Sadly, it looks almost certain that we’ll never see either vision make its way to the silver screen, given how quickly the brakes were hit at Universal. At one point, the studio had Pirates of the Caribbean helmer Gore Verbinski on board to direct, though he soon left after...

First off, I'm not a big fan of superhero films in which the superhero has no superpowers, but of course there are exceptions to that rule like Batman and Black Widow. I guess I really should say, I prefer my superheroes to have superpowers. Secondly, I'm not a big fan of the color purple, yet funny enough, I like The Color Purple (1985). Go figure. With all that said, I actually enjoyed the 1996 superhero film, The Phantom. Its not the greatness film in the world, but it has its moments and the supporting cast is actually quite good. Heck, we get to see a young Catherine Zeta-Jones ("Red 2") blossom two years before she became an overnight star because of her performance in The Mask of Zorro. Below, is some fantastic concept art Jim Martin created for the film, which starred Billy Zane ("Zoolander") and was directed by Simon Wincer ("Crocodile...

A few days ago, I posted Jim Martin's concept art from a unmade Toy Story 3 and that was such a hit I figured I would share some more of his work. This group, includes concept art that Jim designed for Tim Story's Fantastic Four (2005), Jose Padilha's RoboCop (2014) remake and Joe Johnston's Captain America: The First Avengers (2011). I especially like the Captain America concept art because of the nifty designs for the opening scene involving modern-day scientists in the Arctic discover Steve Rogers' (Chris Evans) frozen body inside the cockpit of a wrecked Hydra bomber. There's also some neat props designed for Dr. Abraham Erskine's (Stanley Tucci) "super-soldier" experiment. ...

Before you say, “wait a second, you’re wrong, Toy Story 3 did happen.” You should know that back in 2004, there was a rift between Pixar Studios’ Steve Jobs and Disney CEO Michael Eisner, and the partnership between the two studios ended. Disney held all of the rights to the films that Pixar had made, though, so when the two companies split, Disney set up their own CG animation studio that they named Circle 7 Animation, and they didn’t waste any time getting a Toy Story 3 movie into development… without Pixar. Not only did they start work on Toy Story 3, but they also began developing Finding Nemo 2 and Monsters Inc. 2.
It was in 2006 that Disney's newly appointed CEO Bob Iger was able to strike a deal with Jobs in which Disney bought Pixar for $7.4 billion and put Pixar's leadership in control of Disney's animation department. Disney’s Circle 7 Animation was shutdown shortly after,...

When Bay Area metal experimentalists Faith No More reunited for a world tour in 2009, many fans assumed new recordings would follow. Well, better late than never. The group -- frontman Mike Patton, drummer Mike Bordin, keyboard player Roddy Bottum, bassist Bill Gould, and guitarist Jon Hudson -- are in the midst of recording their first full-length record since 1997’s "Album of the Year," with April 2015 as the projected release date. Longtime lead guitarist Jim Martin is not taking part in the reunion. In anticipation of the album's release, Fnm will drop a limited edition 7-inch single featuring the new song “Motherf*cker” on Record Store Day’s Black Friday event on November 28). The B-side will feature a remix by J.G. Thirlwell (Foetus). The vinyl single will be limited to 5000 copies, but will then be released digitally on December 9. While three of four people arrested amid the investigation of Philip Seymour Hoffman's death were arraigned on drug charges, the New York theater community mourned the actor with a dimming of Broadway's marquee lights and a candlelight vigil. The vigil Wednesday night was held outside the 90-seat home of the LAByrinth Theatre Company, where Hoffman had long been a member. And at 7:45 p.m., Broadway's lights turned off for a minute. "We come together tonight in a spirit of terrible mourning and incredible loss," the Rev. Jim Martin, a Jesuit priest and LAByrinth member, told the crowd of...

New York's Broadway dimmed its lights in tribute to Philip Seymour Hoffman last night (February 5).
The theatre district initiated the traditional mark of respect to the late actor three days after his death from an apparent drug overdose.
His former group the Labyrinth Theater Company held a candlelit vigil for him earlier in the evening, where a crowd of around 200 people took part.
Hoffman joined the company in 1995, directing and starring in a number of productions.
"We come together tonight in a spirit of terrible mourning and incredible loss," said Reverend Jim Martin, a Labyrinth member. "But we also come together to celebrate a remarkable life."
Actor and friend Eric Bogosian added: "Courage was his forte, always. Phil set his bar on the highest rung, on a rung above the highest rung. He pushed himself relentlessly until finally his efforts virtually redefined the very endeavour we call acting. That's what he wanted.

More than 30 years have passed since the suspicious death of WWE Hall of Famer Jimmy Snuka’s girlfriend, Nancy L. Argentino, but the mystery remains.
Yesterday it was announced that the case will be reopened and reviewed by a Grand Jury to see whether the man known to millions as the ‘Superfly’ was really to blame.
No one can argue that ‘Superfly’ Jimmy Snuka is one of the most revered and recognisable Superstars in the history of the WWE and it was his famous splash from the top of a steel cage onto the lifeless body of ‘Magnificent’ Don Muraco inside Madison Square Garden that catapulted him into the history books and inspired a generation of future top stars including former WWE Champion Mick Foley. But despite being incredibly popular for much of his run – in particular 1982-1994 – Snuka never held a singles title in what was then the World Wrestling Federation.

Back in 2004, Jj Abrams wrote a script for a new Superman movie, called "Superman: Flyby," that was set to be directed by McG (Terminator Salvation) and star Henry Cavill (Man of Steel) as Superman and Robert Downey Jr as Lex Luthor. The movie never happened, mostly because the studio wanted to shoot in Australia and McG has a fear of flying. Bryan Singer stepped in and turned it into "Superman Returns." But now, Jim Martin, who worked as a concept artist on such films as "Spider-Man," "Matrix Reloaded" and "Captain America: The First Avengers," has now posted concept art for "Superman: Flyby," giving us a look at some of the more important scenes of the movie. Check everything out below. "Superman: Flyby" plot: An origin story that included Krypton besieged by a civil war between Jor-El and his corrupt brother, Kata-Zor. Before Kata-Zor sentences Jor-El to prison, Kal-El is...

News of a planned BioShock feature film came to a screeching halt last year when Irrational’s Ken Levine revealed that the project was dead in the water. At that point in time, Gore Verbinski had been attached to direct, but Universal apparently got cold feet about pumping so much money into an R-rated flick.
But what if they hadn't? What if the long awaited BioShock movie actually ended up getting made? What would that look like?
Over on his website, designer Jim Martin just posted a bunch of the concept art Universal hired him to draw up for the flick, which gives us a glimpse into the world we almost experienced on the big screen. Sadly, the unused art may be the closest we ever get to the film becoming a reality.
Check out the artwork below, and let us know what ya think!

The attempt to adapt Irrational Games’ Bioshock for the big screen is a story almost as tragic as that of the game’s fallen utopia of Rapture. Originally snapped up in 2008 with director Gore Verbinski at the helm (hopefully channeling equal parts The Ring and Pirates of the Caribbean), the film was supposed to be a hard-r flick that didn’t wince at violence. When the studio execs balked at the proposed $200 million budget and counteroffered with $80 million, Verbinski dropped out at was replaced by 28 Weeks Later director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, who then left the project in 2012. The final nail in the coffin game in the form of Irrational Games’ own Ken Levine, who was given carte blanche by publisher 2K Games to pull the proverbial plug if he saw fit. He did.

Overall, I found Oblivion to be quite enjoyable. Yes, the film seems to borrow it's best twist and turns from the Wachowskis' The Matrix and Duncan Jones' Moon. So, not original, but the execution is quite good. In the second clip below, you will see the first introduction of the advanced medical supply kit. You can also see concept art of that kit below as well, created by Jim Martin. In the deleted scene, Jack Harper (Tom Cruise) has a little boo-boo from an encounter with the alien invaders known as Scavengers ("Scavs"). His redheaded vixen/lover, Victoria "Vika" Olsen (Andrea Riseborough), swoops in like Florence Nightingale, and treats his wound as though she has had some medical training. After the months-long bidding war for Outdoor Channel, it’s surprising to see news about it that doesn’t include a few dollar signs: The victor in the contest, Kroenke Sports & Entertainment, says today that it tapped Jim Liberatore to become its new CEO, succeeding Tom Hornish who will stay through a transition period. Liberatore was president of SportsTime Ohio since 2006, and before then was at Speed Channel, the Fox Sports/Sunshine Network and Madison Square Garden. ”Jim has an outstanding track record of building and growing successful cable network brands and we will benefit from his expertise, industry relationships and vision,” says Ksa chief Jim Martin. Liberatore says that “the future is exceedingly bright for Outdoor Channel and I am confident we can continue to grow our leadership and influence in serving the nation’s outdoor enthusiast market.”...

The deal’s finally done, with Kroenke Sports & Entertainment paying $10.25 a share — about $265M — for the cable channel. “As a part of Kse, Outdoor Channel will be well positioned — competitively, strategically and financially — to meet the needs of its customers and business partners,” says Kse chief Jim Martin. Outdoor Channel CEO Tom Hornish adds that the new owner will “greatly strengthen our ability to invest in assets, expand our distribution and continue to generate the unparalleled experience our viewers expect.” Kse is owned by Stan Kroenke. It owns the NFL’s St. Louis Rams and is a power in Denver with venues including the Pepsi Center, the Paramount Theater and Dick’s Sporting Goods Park, and teams including hockey’s Colorado Avalanche, the NBA’s Denver Nuggets, and Major League Soccer’s Colorado Rapids. Outdoor Channel shareholders approved the deal in a special meeting yesterday with 19.3M votes in favor and just 758,969 against.

The first season of Continuum concludes tonight on Syfy, but before we see how it ends, we caught up with creator and executive producer Simon Barry and stars Rachel Nichols (Kiera Cameron) and Victor Webster (Carlos Fonnegra) to speak about tonight’s finale, themes and developments in Season 1 and what they’ll mean going forward into Season 2.
BuzzFocus: My first question is for Victor, when you first took on this role, maybe you thought it’s a leading man and then you find out that your character’s the one that’s kind of being saved a lot by Kiera, talk about maybe that role reversal element that makes this Continuum so unique.
Victor Webster: We kind of take all the stereotypes that have been played out in other TV shows and we kind of flip them right on their ear. So whereas the male character might be the leading man saving the woman,...

The resignation of Pope Benedict XVI has affected millions of faithful Catholics all over the world, but perhaps none are feeling the sting as deeply as Stephen Colbert.
The host was baffled on Monday, trying to wrap his mind around the news (which he learned of from his regular morning visit to this very site), but found himself in even more of a tizzy attempting to discern who might replace the departing holy father. One thing he was certain of: the new pope should definitely be an American.
