Most of the scene’s stars are here for documentary which follows its emergence from ‘wild west’ parties to chart success and moral panic
This exhaustive insider survey of UK garage music – whose demise has been greatly exaggerated – leaves you feeling like some wrung-out Ayia Napa afterparty casualty. It isn’t too great at clearly delineating the scene’s origins, and gives too much airtime to seminal club night Garage Nation, possibly because its former promoter Terry Stone co-directed this film. But, calling on an A-z of exponents – from Pied Piper and Mc Neat to approximately 13 of So Solid Crew – it supplies a wry rewind to late 90s extravagance and hand-wringing consternation about the genre’s future.
The film meanders through UK garage’s early days, a “wild west” with promoters such as Stone running free in the era’s more laissez-faire clubland to road test MCs and dubplates of potential new bangers.

"It's a lifestyle, Garage." Platinum Pictures has revealed an official trailer for a music documentary called, very simply: 25 Years of UK Garage. One of the most descriptive titles of the year, as the film is literally about 25 years of UK garage music and the dance music scene in Britain. Made by the same filmmakers behind United Nation Three Decades of Drum & Bass. 25 Years of UK Garage provides insight into the stories of the DJ's and Mc's from the UK Garage dance music scene over the past two and a half decades. The "Garage Nation" scene is very specific to the UK, though it has spread worldwide thanks to the internet. The doc film features appearances from Richie Campbell, Anthony Joshua, Mc Harvey, Leo Ihenacho, Ms. Dynamite, Lisa Maffia, Megaman, So Solid Crew, Dane Bowers, M.C. Creed, DJ Majestic, Mc Bushkin, Heartless Crew, DJ Swiss, DJ Pds, Oxide & Neutrino, Scott Garcia.

Welcome to Digital Spy's Weekly News Catchup, looking back at the biggest stories on the site over the past seven days.
For your consideration
Awards season kicked off properly this week, with the Oscar nominations and Golden Globe Awards (and Critics' Choice Awards).
Boyhood and The Grand Budapest Hotel were named the best films by the Globes judges and both picked up nods from the Academy a few days later.
'Dick Poop' got a surprise nomination at the Oscars, but incredibly The Lego Movie, Ava DuVernay, Mica Levi, David Oyelowo and Jake Gyllenhaal were all snubbed.
"You can create this stuff, George, but you sure can't direct it"
George Lucas didn't pick up an Academy nomination (or much love from the fans) when he directed the three Star Wars prequels.
He perhaps wisely handed over the reins to Jj Abrams for the upcoming Star Wars Episode VII, but this week...

Jake Quickenden has been confirmed to be entering the jungle in ITV's I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!.
Just four weeks ago, Jake was singing as a finalist in The X Factor before being the fifth act to be eliminated from the competition.
This got us thinking. This must be the quick(enden)est time that an X Factor finalist has found themselves on a different reality TV show so far - but which other acts traded series after attempting to secure a contract with Syco? Here they all are in order of time taken to do so.
1. Jake Quickenden (4 weeks)
Series: 2014
Finished: 12th
After reaching the Judges' Houses in 2012, Quickenden made it to the final 16 this year. He tried desperately to prove that he wasn't just a pretty face with a ripped physique, but it hasn't taken him long to get his kit off for his pre-I'm a Celebrity photoshoot.

The X Factor is going there - we're getting an eight-piece boyband this year! The lads - who were put together by the judges after unsuccessful solo auditions - blazed through to Louis Walsh's Judges' Houses after their stirring performance of 'Run'... but what are they really like?
We met Reece Bibby, James Graham, Barclay Beales, Tom Mann, Casey Johnson, Jake Sims, Chris Leonard and Charlie Jones this week and tried to get them to settle down long enough to answer ten questions for us...
1. Do you have a proper name yet?
All: "No!"
Charlie: "We've had a few ideas and they've been awful."
Casey: "Chris's favourite is Walking Pavements."
Chris: "I think that's clever."
Barclay: "It's terrible. Terrible."
Casey: "Are you a toddler? What part of that's clever?"
Tom: "Walking is boring and pavements, pavements are so boring."

Have you ever wondered what Jet, Wolf, and the rest of ITV's Gladiators did after the show finished? Wonder no more...
ITV’s Gladiators - the show that for eight years made children everywhere become interested in sports, eating well and keeping fit... for about five minutes on a Saturday night, then we all went back to our natural state of sitting on the settee eating sugar straight from the packet.
What was it that inspired this minor surge of enthusiasm for being buff? That would be the gladiators themselves. Every week, twelve superhuman powerhouses - six men and six women - would intimidate, bully, and otherwise humiliate whichever puny contestants stepped up to try their luck, beating or hindering them in a series of physical skill games. This took place before the big finale – where the contenders would race each other up a downwards escalator, while the gladiators were...

Yes, iPlayer. The best British comedy in years is (until July 20 anyway) only available online.
While it's disheartening that so few people have been exposed to its comedic brilliance, it's also perhaps a positive sign for the new-look, online-only BBC Three that a show which originated as a YouTube experiment from a group of mates has slowly blossomed from a pilot to iPlayer series to four-episode run on the proper telly.

Have you already been on Dancing On Ice? Is Splash! not returning your calls? If that's the case, worry not, welcome to The Jump. Channel 4's latest abysmal attempt to fill a Big Brother-shaped hole in their schedules.

Mc Harvey is what you would call a Jack of all trades, as the former rapper – famed for his work with So Solid Crew – has since turned his head to acting, and following a role in The Big I Am, he returns in George Isaac’s All Things to All Men – and we discussed his role in the movie ahead of its forthcoming release.
Playing the part of criminal Curtis Carter, Mc Harvey – whose real name is Michael Harvey – discusses playing a role that feels somewhat close to home, with the films predominant setting taking place in the same area of London the actor was born. He also discusses his own future, as well as telling us where he feels his heart lies – as a performer who has formed careers for himself in music, acting and even professional football.
All Things to All Met is out in UK cinema today.

The former So Solid Crew member has a burgeoning acting career. But how much does his portrayal of young black men draw on his own troubled background – and does he worry about being typecast?
Is Ashley Walters afraid of being typecast? In his new film, Sket, he plays a violent gang leader on a London housing estate. In Top Boy, a Channel 4 drama soon to be screened, he plays a drug dealer on a London housing estate. In another new film – because Walters is about to be everywhere – Demons Never Die, he plays a police officer; it must have come as something of a relief. After Bullet Boy, the 2004 film that kick-started his movie career – in which he played a young man involved in gun crime on a London housing estate – it seemed as if he could be in danger of becoming the go-to man for gritty, urban dramas.

Newcomer Malcolm Kamulete stars as 13-year-old Ra'Nell who has to "step up and be a man" when his mother Lisa (Sharon Duncan-Brewster) has a breakdown and is hospitalised. At the same time his mum's friend Heather (Kierston Wareing), enlists his help in a dangerous plan she has concocted to give her unborn baby the chances she never had - "even if it means doing one wrong thing to get to the right place.
