Someone Bass thought he’d never see again pushes his way back into the deputy U.S. marshal’s life at the end of this week’s Lawmen: Bass Reeves. And when Reeves comes face-to-face with a man who killed someone he cared about, is it any wonder that the former slave’s moral certitude seems like it’s about to take a beating?

Paramount+’s Lawmen: Bass Reeves episode five opens with the disturbing sight of a dead man hanging from a tree. Attached to his chest is a note that reads, “Bass Reeves will swing here.”
Bass (David Oyelowo) stakes out an area, sending Billy (Forrest Goodluck) into Bywater’s General Store while watching what goes down from afar. Billy returns to report that five armed men are hanging out inside, including the outlaw, Jim Webb. Bass and Billy move in closer, and Bass immediately comes under fire as he approaches the building.
Bass manages to make it to the building and exchanges Bible passages with Webb and his men. Billy and Bass bust into the store through different doors, and the ensuing shootout results in a few of Webb’s...

Two years after the events of Lawmen: Bass Reeves Episode 3, Bass Reeves is now well on his way to becoming a legendary lawman in the Wild West. He had the tactics, the courage and the sheer will to impose the rule of law on Native territory. Murderers, robbers and all other delinquents had taken cognizance of him and it was here in the fourth episode that we see him getting deeper into hell, at the risk of becoming a monster himself after facing so many monsters. Lawmen: Bass Reeves Episode 4 focuses primarily on the time when Bass was out working with ex-robber Bill Crow, collecting himself an impressive collar. Embodying the spirit of the law, Bass was now on the verge of not knowing right from wrong and leaving it all up to the Almighty.

Paramount+’s Lawmen: Bass Reeves episode four kicks off with an unusual scene. Bass (David Oyelowo) sings while shooting a hole through a hat. He’s wearing tattered clothing, and it’s quickly obvious this is part of a carefully planned disguise.
The reason? Reeves needs to appear nonthreatening when he arrives at a woman’s door. Although initially leery of this stranger’s appearance, the woman – Widow Dolliver (Dale Dickey) – lowers her rifle and invites him inside, impressed that he can quote the Bible.
Her adult children, Wiley and Darrell, show up at dinner time and get into a fistfight…not with Bass, but amongst themselves. Widow Dolliver asks Bass’ help in moving them into the bedroom, all the while fretting about the sleepless nights these ne’er-do-wells have cost her.

Earlier this week, “Curb Your Enthusiasm” creator Larry David sent social media into a frenzy over his impression of presidential candidate Bernie Sanders during the first Democratic presidential debate Oct. 13. The tradition of impersonating political figures is a long one, and we’ve rounded up some of our favorites! First up, the most recent “SNL” political skit starring some of the show’s staple actors. Taran Killam as Martin O’Malley; Kyle Mooney as Lincoln Chafee; Alec Baldwin as Jim Webb; Kate McKinnon as Hillary Clinton; and David as SandersThe rug was lifted on what everyone watching the first Democratic presidential debate was thinking: From Clinton’s (entirely too) well-rehearsed responses to Webb’s assertion that he indeed did serve in the Vietnam War, all the way to Sanders’ exclamation that the American people are tired of “hearing about those damn emails,” “SNL” hit all the markers. Jason Sudeikis as...

Bernie Sanders thinks Larry David‘s impression of him on “Saturday Night Live” last weekend was on point, and returned the favor while appearing on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” on Wednesday. “I thought it was pretty, pretty, pretty good!” the democratic candidate said in his best David voice. The line is one of the actor’s most well-known catchphrases from his HBO show, “Curb Your Enthusiasm.” David played Sanders during an “SNL” sketch mocking the first Democratic presidential debate, with Kate McKinnon playing Hillary Clinton and Alec Baldwin playing the role of Jim Webb. What could be better than Tuesday's first Democratic presidential debate? Saturday Night Live's funny spoof featuring none other than Larry David. On this week's episode, Larry, who was a writer on SNL from 1984 until 1985, made a guest appearance as Bernie Sanders, and needless to say, his impression was spot on! The skit also starred Alec Baldwin, who took on the role of Jim Webb. Watch the funny video, above, and then check out Tina Fey's amazing return to SNL.

Former Virginia Sen. Jim Webb is joining the ever-growing list of candidates in the 2016 presidential race. Webb’s announcement, via email, makes him the fifth Democrat to join the race, including former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, former Maryland governor Martin O’Malley and former Rhode Island Sen. Lincoln Chafee. “I understand the odds, particularly in today’s political climate where fair debate is so often drowned out by huge sums of money,” Webb said in the email.”But our country needs a fresh approach to solving the problems that confront us and too often unnecessarily divide us.

We've got the first of the fall shows either coming back or premiering tonight (mostly on The CW which seems to try and get its properties out of the gate early to draw in viewers before they have to compete with the big boys) but I suspect there are many of you out there far more interested in the fact that the first actual NFL game of the season is on tonight. I don't know about the rest of you, but I've already got my guacamole makings, salsa con queso, and hint of lime chips ready to go and I'm not even a particular fan of either of the teams playing tonight. It's just a nice reminder that we're getting back into the fall TV season so everyone can stop complaining about how there's nothing on TV and start complaining about how everything on TV sucks. A new report suggests that Burma—or “Myanmar,” depending on your politics—is stockpiling supplies for nuclear-weapons development. According to The Washington Post, photos and secret documents “show Burma's military rulers taking concrete steps toward obtaining atomic weapons, according to an analysis co-written by an independent nuclear expert. But it also points to enormous gaps in Burmese technical know-how and suggests that the country is many years from developing an actual bomb.” (Apparently they’ve had some trouble with the “laser enrichment” portion of nuclear-weapons creation, which sounds like it would be the hard part.) As a result of these developments, Senator Jim Webb (D-va) announced last-minute that he has canceled his June 3 trip to the country. According to the BBC, Webb called off the visit “because of concern [Burma] was working with North Korea to develop a nuclear programme.” (“Programme”!) “Until there is further clarification on these matters, I believe...

On the evening of January 6, Admiral Mike Mullen got into his armored SUV and girded himself for the last meeting of his day. The chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff had been up since well before dawn -- he'd gone to the gym at 4:30 that morning. A bad cold was making him feel as if his head were stuffed with gauze. And his aides? Slave drivers! He'd wanted to cancel his appearance on The Daily Show With Jon Stewart, but he had done that once before, and they thought it would be bad form to back out again.

Circa 1945: A group of British soldiers enjoying a drink and a smoke in the army canteen. Photo from Fox Photos/Getty Images. Yesterday, the national security wizards over at Wired’s Danger Room pointed out that Senator Jim Webb, a Democrat and Vietnam vet from Virginia, thinks drinking alcohol isn’t such a bad way for troops to relieve combat stress. All deployed troops in Iraq and Afghanistan are under General Order No. 1, which outlaws indulgence in any sort of gambling, pornography, or alcohol consumption. This summer, General Stanley McChrystal extended the ban on alcohol to Nato’s International Security Assistance Force headquarters in Kabul. (Dexter Filkins’s October profile of the general in the New York Times magazine exposed McChrystal’s irritation with drowsy coalition officers.) And if you read any memoir from the Iraq war, you’ll find out very quickly just how unpopular General Order No.
