Director Francis Ford Coppola, who recently received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, was also honored with a lifetime achievement award in honor of the 50th anniversary of his film “The Godfather.” In his speech, Coppola called out Russian president Vladimir Putin and the war in Ukraine, saying, “It breaks my heart … what is happening in the world, this absurd reality of this world today, and I can’t not speak about that.”

Joel Coler, an advertising and publicity executive for 20th Century Fox International for almost three decades, has died. He was 85.
Coler died Monday at the Motion Picture & Television Fund campus in Woodland Hills, L.A., after a battle with Alzheimer's disease, publicist Leonard Morpurgo announced.

Murray Weissman, the dean of Oscar consultants who spearheaded the awards campaigns for seven best picture winners in a half-century of pressing the flesh, died Monday. He was 90. Gene Allen, a three-term president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences and an Oscar-winning art director, died Wednesday from natural causes, publicist Leonard Morpurgo announced. Charles Lisanby, a three-time Emmy Award winner and the only art director enshrined in the Television Academy’s Hall of Fame, has died. He was 89. Lisanby, who helped pioneer color television scenic design, died Aug. 23 at his Los Angeles home of complications following a fall, publicist Leonard Morpurgo said.
