The last time somebody tried to mess with John Landis’ landmark 1981 horror movie “An American Werewolf in London,” audiences got the abysmal spiritual sequel “An American Werewolf in Paris.” The less said about that 1997 movie the better, but it did prove just how impossible it is to capture the revolutionary magic of Landis’ original.
Somebody should probably tell that to John’s son, Max Landis. The outspoken young Landis announced last fall he is planning on writing and directing a new remake of his father’s “An American Werewolf in London,” which sounds kind of cute until you realize just how perfect the original is and just how unqualified Max Landis is to be doing anything remotely related to his legendary father. John may be his son’s biggest supporter, but he also realizes a “An American Werewolf in London” remake is a bad idea.

Chrissy Teigen and John Legend have been making us swoon for years now, and despite the fact that the pair is so open about their relationship, there are still a few things you may not know about the loving couple - like the reason Chrissy and John may get turned away from a commercial flight in the future, or the adorable thing John was doing when they first met. Basically, just more reasons to love them! RelatedWe've Been Spoiled With So Many Snaps of John Legend and Chrissy Teigen's Daughter John was ironing in his underwear when he first met Chrissy. Set in Perth, Australia, during December of 1987, it’s evident from Hounds of Love’s very first moments—a stunning slow-motion sequence of teenagers playing volleyball while a pair of onlookers watch from a distance—that writer/director Ben Young isn’t interested in giving us yet another horrific kidnapping thriller that relies on shocking violence or tortuous gore. Instead, he digs a little deeper with his script, defying genre trappings by focusing on the psychological aspects of the story, brought to life by a trio of brazen performances that make Hounds of Love a truly unforgettable viewing experience.
Hounds of Love follows a couple, John and Evelyn (portrayed by Stephen Curry and Emma Booth), who abduct a young girl walking home from school one day, and we see how that intersects with another teenager named Vicki (Ashleigh Cummings) who is having a difficult time coping with her parents’ recent divorce.

Who says you need to adapt? As some filmmakers look towards newfangled technology for 21st century chills (Friend Request/Unfriended/The Den), writer/director Jackson Stewart scares up some vintage nostalgia with his debut feature, Beyond The Gates. Screw Facebook and Skype. Remember the good old days when people sat around in social groups, and spooked themselves silly with products you’d only find in dumpsters nowadays?
For you younger readers, VHS cassettes used to play movies on film before digital radio waves made physical copies obsolete – but Stewart’s concept dates even myself (not in my 30s yet, so I was part of the DVD uprising). Apparently games used to exist in VHS form, and you could play along with the characters on screen (like Final Destination 3 tried to do with their “Select A Fate” DVD). Well, what if those games became reality, and immersion meant realistic consequences?...

Tommy seeks absolution while there’s dissent in the ranks in the latest instalment of the ever-stylish Peaky Blinders…

Stop swearing? You’d have more luck getting the Shelby men to wear tutus, Pol.
Despite Polly’s toast in the same scene, episode three found the Shelby family anything but united. Harmony is impossible this series because the Shelbys can’t agree on what they are now they’ve struck it rich. Their new circumstances have splintered the family’s self-image. While that smooch from Papa John may have had sponsorship roots, Peyton Manning's post-Super Bowl win Budweiser nod was totally unplanned. After nabbing his second Super Bowl ring, Manning told CBS' Tracy Wolfson that he planned to "drink a lot of Budweiser tonight, Tracy, I promise you that." The name drop wasn't a paid promotion for the 39-year-old Denver Broncos quarterback, according to Budweiser. "We didn't know the shout out was coming either, but we're glad it did," the beverage company tweeted after Manning's interview. We didn’t know the shout out was coming either, but we’re glad it did.

This tale of half-lives and lonely deaths avoids cliched resolution to set up a genuinely touching conclusion
There are few faces more forlorn than that of Eddie Marsan in this painfully melancholic tale of half-lives and lonely deaths. He plays John May, a civil servant whose thankless job is to locate relatives of the recently deceased and perpetually unloved. To his superiors (and indeed everyone else), these poor unfortunates are just numbers, but John takes an all-too-personal interest in their passing – lovingly pasting their photos into his own family albums, while eating tuna and toast at home alone. Facing his final case, John embarks on an odyssey through the land of the living that brings him into contact with the fractured friends and acquaintances of a previously unnoticed neighbour. It’s touching stuff, Rachel Portman’s plaintive score plucking endearingly at our heartstrings, Marsan’s worried demeanour dripping with an almost Chaplinesque sense of pathos.

The poignant story of a shy, lonely council official is sympathetically observed but ultimately sentimental
Here is a sombre, sympathetically observed, if finally sentimental movie from Italian film-maker Uberto Pasolini, known for producing The Full Monty (1997). This was made two years ago and has a small role for Joanne Froggatt – smaller than her prominent position on the poster implies. Her Golden-Globe-winning appearance in Downton Abbey may have got this film its UK release.
The drama itself could almost be a fictional footnote to Carol Morley’s great documentary Dreams of a Life (2011), which tried to reconstruct the life of a young woman who died alone in her London flat. Eddie Marsan plays John May, a shy council official living on his own, whose job is to track down the relatives of people who die alone in the borough; he can see all too clearly that he might suffer the same Eleanor-Rigby fate.

Keep an eye on “Unexpected” star Gail Bean and the boys from “Cop Car” and “Me & Earl & the Dying Girl”
Michael B. Jordan in “Fruitvale Station.” Miles Teller and Shailene Woodley in “The Spectacular Now.” Oscar nominees Quvenzhané Wallis and Abigail Breslin in “Beasts of the Southern Wild” and “Little Miss Sunshine,” respectively.
All of those performances were once the talk of Sundance, where stars threaten to break-out each year. The 2015 edition of the frosty festival is no different, with no shortage of young stars poised to launch their careers in Park City and make a name for themselves in Hollywood.

There was a time when the only place to see new movies was in theaters — I know, it sounds like science fiction, but it’s true — but the brave new world we find ourselves in has made it possible to experience brand new releases in a myriad of ways. One of the increasingly more common methods of mainlining cinema these days is via VOD, and while some smaller films manage limited theatrical releases a growing number are premiering on demand. This week’s small releases include four dramas of varying content and effect. Still Life follows a man whose job it is to find friends for the recently departed. Little Accidents examines the weight of guilt on several characters in a small, tragedy-prone town. The Phoenix Project finds four scientists on the verge of conquering death. And finally, Three Night Stand asks us to identify with a poor guy stuck between Meaghan Rath and Emmanuelle Chriqui. Still Life...

Updated & Exclusive: Beta closes a number of key deals on Venice award-winner Still Life.
Still Life director Uberto Pasolini has several new projects on the boil as a producer through his company Redwave. One is a UK/French comedy that is being co-scripted by Simon Nye and that he will make with Rita Dagher’s Senorita Films. Another is a British comedy written by comedian Deborah Frances-White. Meanwhile, he is still working with director Alan Taylor (Palookaville, Thor) on The Horseman, a western adapted from David Anthony Durham’s civil war set novel, Gabriel’s Story.
He is also hatching a version of The Odyssey from a script by Edward Bond. (Pasolini nearly made the project a decade ago with Neil Jordan and is re-firing it now.)
Meanwhile, Beta has sold Still Life to Bim for Italy, Wild Bunch for Benelux, Palace in Australia, Filmcoopi in Switzerland, Arthaus in Norway, Folkets Bio in Sweden...

Venice -- Eddie Marsan applies his protean gifts to an odd-little-man role almost in the Charlie Chaplin vein in Still Life. There are inevitably going to be pleasures to savor whenever this fine British character actor occupies center-screen, and for a while that’s almost enough to sustain writer-director Uberto Pasolini’s minor-key drama about the ebb and flow of a solitary existence. But the fragile film’s bid for poignancy is so aggressive and its sensitivity so studied that it eventually drowns in syrupy banality. Marsan plays John May, a 44-year-old South London council employee whose

Patrick Jane tells Lisbon in the season finale of "The Mentalist" that he's going to tell her the seven suspects he thinks could be Red John.
And so he does -- or rather, he confirms it. In a jaw-dropper of a final scene, he's beaten to the punch. The twist is so well-executed that it almost renders the actual names secondary.
Enough with the vagaries: Red John's latest killing is designed specifically to draw Jane in. The victim leads him and Lisbon back to a mobile home park that's also a regular carny layover, and where Jane spent a lot of time when he was young.
The woman, it turns out, was also someone Jane knew as a boy, someone he has a particular fond memory of from a Fourth of July picnic a long time ago. Jane and Lisbon discuss how her death is like Red John reached into...

Much to the joy of "Grease" faithfuls (and line-dancing enthusiasts), John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John reunited this December to record the holiday tune "I Think You Might Like It" and its accompanying music video. According to Travolta, there is even more cheesy holiday fun to come.

The teams get to the market and it's chaos. I just notice John running around with his jeans rolled up like the cute dork that he is. Manpris? Maybe he takes lessons from Top Chef's Angelo? Either way, I'm a fan.
"A hundred Thai women are laughing at me."
Nookie and John have a woman helping them and showing them where everything is,...
"Pretty much no one wants to be on Jenna's team because she's so annoying."

We're in Thailand this week and John's coming off a big win. Nookie is still pissed Nicole didn't go home last week and he had to send Nick home instead.

It is clear what a huge success Dostana was when it first hit our screens back in 2008 with it being the eighth highest grossing film at the box office in 2008. What with, the John – Abhishek duo and Priyanka in tow, Dostana brought us love, laughter and lots of eye candy!
Now audiences will be pleased to hear that Tarun Mansukhani is ready to bring us Dostana 2 slated for release later this year. If the rumours are true, Dostana will be shot across two continents – Punjab and London; unlike the first which was based solely in Miami.
When John was asked about Dostana 2 he confirmed the rumours and said, “It is going to be far more naughty and wicked. There will be lots of sexual jokes though Karan Johar and Tarun Mansukhani will make sure the gay community is not offended. Innocuous fun will still be the key.”

Jake Gyllenhaal just has one of those faces, you know?
The guy almost doesn't even have to talk at all in his movies because his super-expressive face pretty much says it all. And according to Variety, that makes him the perfect pick to replace Dominic Cooper in the upcoming dialogue-free action film "Motor City."
What, you were expecting maybe Jean Dujardin?
Here are the deets: Written by screenwriter Chad St. John, "Motor City" tells the story of "a felon who, after being released from prison, begins tracking down the men who framed him." Set to co-star Amber Heard and Gary Oldman, "Motor City" also has one unique twist: There's no dialogue at all.
Or at least, there probably isn't; word is that St. John may have added some at the studio's request. Either way, though, that kind of minimalist take on an action movie could be the perfect next step for Gyllenhaal,...

Tonight on The Real Housewives of Atlanta: Three Wigs and a Baby
On tonight's episode of The Real Housewives of Atlanta, the wives are either continuing to deal with parts of their past in order to better understand their present or diving head first into an uncertain (but welcome) future that once seemed unattainable.
One cast member mixing it up with the ghosts of her past is Cynthia, as she heads to New York to visit former flame Russell Simmons. Before you start thinking the generally meek Miss Bailey is two-timing her husband Peter, know that this visit is purely business and related to Cynthia's recently opened modeling school. Russell Simmons is a media mogul, having written best selling books, ran record companies, and managed a highly successful fashion line, so it's not a bad idea to tap into that kind of business acumen if you're trying to get...

This Australian serial-killer movie is an often-unwatchable portrait of a twisted family and a blighted community
Here is a docu-Jacobean nightmare, and a dysfunctional stepfamily drama, based on the career of Australia's most notorious serial killer. The title refers to a remote locality north of Adelaide, where in 1999 the strongroom of a disused bank building was found to contain a grisly secret. It is the location for the film's final sinister moments.
This is a well made but gruesome and often unwatchably violent film, made the more disturbing by its deferred and indirect revelations about the killer's modus operandi, his intimate social embeddedness with his victims, his ambiguous motivation, and the way he makes those closest to the victims complicit in the crimes.
The murderer is not, in fact, precisely at the centre of the film: its leading character is a troubled teenage boy, Jamie, played by Lucas Pittaway with...

Bollywood fitness fanatic, John Abraham, who plays a renegade cop in Nishikant Kamat’s stylised thriller Force, releasing on 30th September, has bared his exclusive fitness mantra to his worldwide fan following!
The epitome of a body building idol, John may have been at his beefiest best in Dostana but for Aashayein he had to lose over 12 kilos. And for the upcoming blockbuster Force in which he stars opposite screen beauty Genelia D’Souza, he has magnificently shaped up his 8-pack abs physique. So how does the actor deal with this change in look for each film role? In Force, audiences will witness the screen hunk more muscled than ever before. Forget a 6-pack, he’s boasting an 8-pack, and every gym member now wants to emulate the to-die-for look.
Anyone who has seen John’s body will know that it is a physique developed through hard work and discipline.

John Travolta and Kelly Preston beamed yesterday as they stepped out of the Ritz Hotel in Paris with their daughter, Ella, and young son Benjamin. The Travolta gang headed to the City of Lights to spend Father's Day there as a foursome. It was the latest stop on young Benjamin's busy itinerary - the 7-month-old is a frequent jet-setter between the Us and Europe with his high-flying parents. John may have to stay put on set in the coming months. He's due to start shooting Gotti: In The Shadow of My Father, and Kelly apparently has a role in the picture, too. View Slideshow ›...

When everyone else runs away from gunfire, cops run toward it. That thought sunk in as I watched the terrified employees scamper screaming from the building, while Lydia and Josie steadily inched their way closer to a madman.
When Southland opened with the explanation of a “Failure Drill," I knew someone would be taking that head shot by the end of the episode. The intensity of that entire scene had me sitting on the edge of my seat.
Where Lydia excelled, John was failing. He started off the day with the local drug dealer wishing him well because he’s one of his best customers. If that didn’t tell him how far he’d fallen, I don’t know what would. John took too many pills, slept in the patrol car and it was sheer luck that he and Ben both survived the day.

It seems as if Saturday Night Live is looking toward an established funny guy and a rock veteran in order to finish out its 36th season strongly.
Following Miley Cyrus's first stint as a host on March 5th, comedian Zach Galifianakis will be hosting his second show on March 12th, according to TV Guide. Galifianakis returns to the stage almost exactly a year after a well received first time in March 2010, this time to promote the sequel to The Hangover. Joining Galifianiakis will be British pop/r&b newcomer Jessie J, presumably performing her single "Price Tag" and hoping for a bit of Adele-like magic to jump start her career.
After two weeks of repeats, April will see the return of Sir Elton John, who hasn't been on the SNL stage in nearly 30 years, according to TV Squad. John may not be a comedian in the traditional sense of the word,...

Are some holes to big to be fixed? That’s the thought that went through my mind as I watched tonight’s Southland, aptly titled “Fixing a Hole” It highlighted problems that could and couldn’t be repaired.
John continued to seesaw his way through his addiction. First, he grabbed for his pills, then he threw them on the bathroom floor, then on his hands and knees he scooped them back up. Thankfully, he dropped them in the toilet, as I found myself silently praying that he wouldn’t fish them out again.
Cooper couldn’t hide his pain and withdrawal symptoms, but every time someone offered him a hand, John slapped it away. Stubborn and prideful, John wasn’t ready to accept help and probably won’t until he hits bottom. That’s going to be a very scary place.
Somehow, even doped up or going through withdrawals, John was still a great cop.

Miley Cyrus Stabs Bff Taylor Swift In The Heart By Hooking Up With John Mayer — Was She Out Of Line?
Miley’s new hookup with John may seem like fun to the pop singer, but it is probably devastating to her former Bff — Taylor!
Reports that Miley Cyrus hooked up with the much older John Mayer may have provided controversial gossip for those around her, but it was likely devastating for Miley’s former Bff Taylor Swift! Miley and Taylor famously performed at the 2009 Grammy Awards and now two years later Miley shows up to the same event — and makes her move on John!
Taylor has already had a string of heartbreaks and is not afraid to vocalize them in her songs — could Miley and John be next?
What do you think HollywoodLifers — was Miley out of line to hit on Taylor’s ex?

V (2009) The Complete First Season Blu-Ray Warner Bros. Home Entertainment2009-2010/Not Rated/520 minsList Price: $49.99 – Now AvailableV is so 1983, isn't it? I actually have fond memories of Kenneth Johnson's sci-fi miniseries which aired in two installments between '83 and '84. It was almost as if someone had taken the old Twilight Zone episode To Serve Man (based on a short story by Damon Knight) and adapted it into a television epic. For an eight-year-old kid, the series was both scary and hokey at the same time. Scary every time a Visitor's true nature was revealed and hokey after I realized how poor the visual f/x make-up was. Didn't really matter because back in the eighties, there weren't too many exciting shows on TV with such large production values especially in the sci-fi genre. Plus, who could beat the sexiness of Jane Badler as Diana, Commander of the Visitors?...

According to Production Weekly, 16 year old Saoirse Ronan is to play the title role in the Emma Thompson scripted "Effie" with Orlando Bloom, Greg Wise, Imelda Staunton and Thompson co-starring. Carey Mulligan was previously attached to this role. If true, Saoirse seems once again to be playing a role older than her years.
Written by Academy Award® winner Emma Thompson, Effie is a sharp, entertaining and witty story that vividly conjures up passionate characters driven to extremes by the repressive rules of their time.
John Ruskin – the renowned art critic famously dubbed “The Greatest Victorian” takes young Effie Gray as his wife. Effie is twenty years younger and her expectations of marital love are confounded by her husband’s bizarre and troubled personal behaviour. Caution! The following article does include a spoiler to the first season of V, shown last year on ABC.
Last year, fans of Battlestar Galactica actor Michael Trucco might have had their enjoyment cut short when it was revealed that John May didn't really live and was, in fact, very dead. A recent rumor provides a glimmer of hope. V executive producer Scott Rosenbaum recently dropped a clue by saying simply, "John May may return."
Actor Michael Trucco also shared some recent enlightenment. When asked if John May might really return, he said "That's what they hinted to me. I thought, 'Ok, he's dead, but he's coming back?' They're like, 'Nope, he's dead.' I wrote that off as a one-[time appearance], but they made some indication that maybe he'd come back."
Given the far fetched super science that's in the hands of the alien V, such a resurrection doesn't seem completely impossible.

Michael Trucco (BSG, Castle) may yet return to ABC’s reboot of the alien invasion drama, V. Executive producer Scott Rosenbaum says that they’re not done with Trucco’s rebel Visitor leader, John May. The leader of the Fifth Column may not actually be as dead as Ryan (Morris Chestnut) says in season one.
Trucco sounds as puzzled and excited as we are at this news:
“I thought, ‘Ok, he’s dead, but he’s coming back?’ They’re like, ‘Nope, he’s dead.’ I wrote that off as a one-off [appearance], but they made some indication that maybe he’d come back.
I think it would be a great twist. I would love to resolve that character and see a little bit more into what made him John May.”
Here, here, Michael. We’d like to see more of John May’s story, too!

Former “Battlestar Galactica” actor Michael Trucco hasn’t had much trouble landing gigs post-”BSG”. He’s had a recurring role as the third wheel in ABC’s crime-solving action/comedy “Castle”, and last year he was the pivotal John May in ABC’s new “V” show. Now according to Trucco himself, John May may live yet again on “V”: “That’s what they hinted to me,” Trucco said. “I thought, ‘Ok, he’s dead, but he’s coming back?” They’re like, ‘Nope, he’s dead.’ I wrote that off as a one-off [appearance], but they made some indication that maybe he’d come back.” Honestly, I don’t see why it would be so difficult to bring him back. We are talking about an alien race that can create supersoldiers out of one V alien, after all. What would be so hard about, say, cloning John May? Season...

He has a new series, but Michael Trucco is keeping his routes in Vancouver, and possibly in something else that starts with a "V" -- or should we say, only has a "V." Trucco, who played Sam Anders (and a member of the Final Five) in Syfy's "Battlestar Galactica," could be doing an encore of his one-episode guest stint last season on ABC's "V" playing the much-talked-about John May. Trucco's appearance would be rather interesting -- and possibly a bit confusing -- especially since May was said to be dead at the hands of Ryan Nichols, played by Morris Chestnut. However, Trucco told TV Guide that he could indeed be coming back, and coming back soon. "That's what they hinted to me," Trucco said. "I thought, 'Ok, he's dead, but he's coming back?" Normal 0 The Visitors arrived in Ballroom 20 this afternoon to talk up the second season of the embattled ABC newcomer and the hints dropped by the cast and showrunner Scott Rosenbaum have me ready to re-board the mothership after giving up on V mid-season.
It's no secret that V went through some serious behind-the-scene struggles its freshman year but with Rosenbaum solidly seated in the showrunner's seat now, things are getting interesting.
The last TV panel I attended this morning for NBC's The Event promised to give fans answers. That's the word on the tongue of every sci-fi and genre showrunner it seems and Rosenbaum is no exception. He's prepared to dish out a hot plate of reveals in season two.
