MPTF is launching the “Back to Work” campaign, a fundraiser to assist crew members impacted financially by the Hollywood strikes.
“While the agreement between the WGA and AMPTP and the tentative agreement between SAG-AFTRA and AMPTP are certainly encouraging, our crews will continue to struggle for many months to come,” Bob Beitcher, MPTF President & CEO, said in a statement. “The financial and emotional pain will not be flipped off like a light switch but will require months or longer to heal.”
Filmmakers and Hollywood executives have provided lead gifts to the fund like Oppenheimer director Christopher Nolan and his wife Emma Thomas.
“We are thrilled that SAG-AFTRA and AMPTP have tentatively agreed to a new contract, but it will be a while before most of our industry colleagues are back at work, and the MPTF is going to play a vital part in supporting crews as they return to set,...

Gary Martin, the longtime Sony Pictures executive and major supporter of the Motion Picture & Television Fund who has a historic Wizard of Oz soundstage named for him, has died. He was 79.
Martin died Thursday of natural causes at his home in Sherwood Forest, California, a family spokesperson announced.
When he retired as president of studio operations and production at Sony in 2013, the studio renamed its storied Stage 15 — one of the largest in the world — the Gary Martin Stage. Built in 1927, it was used for 1939’s The Wizard of Oz — the yellow brick road is under the current stage floor — and more recently for Spider-Man and Men in Black films.
At the dedication, then-Sony Pictures Entertainment co-chair Amy Pascal said of Martin: “His leadership, grace and skill are unparalleled in our business. There is no one who comes close.”
He oversaw production of more than 600 films at the studio.

Twice a month Joe Lipsett will dissect a new Amityville Horror film to explore how the “franchise” has evolved in increasingly ludicrous directions. This is “The Amityville IP.”
We’re hitting new lows with the “franchise” with The Amityville Theater (or The Amityville Playhouse depending on where you watch). Despite an inherently interesting location and a few well-shot sequences that suggest a much more interesting film, director John R. Walker and writer Steve Hardy never get a handle on the material. This is never more evident than in the brief climax, which poorly and hastily delivers a ton of exposition in a rushed and unsatisfying way. Add in some of the worst acting the series has seen yet, and this one is a bit of a stinker.
The first few scenes of the film are non-linear, as Fawn Harriman (Monèle LeStrat) confirms her plans to spend the weekend at the...

Responding to the Motion Picture & Television Fund’s’ urgent call for help to stay in business, several industry leaders and organizations have stepped up — but not nearly as many as are needed to keep Hollywood’s 101-year-old charity afloat. MPTF hopes to raise at least 300,000 in its star-studded first telethon, which will air December 10 on Ktla in Los Angeles.
Hit by a “perfect storm” of rising expenses and declining revenue during the Covid pandemic, the MPTF said in October that it was facing its “imminent demise” and the very real prospect of closing its doors and going out of business by the end of 2022 unless it received 10 million-12 million in cash donations by the end of the year to meet its bank line compliance and continue ongoing operations.

The Indiegogo comic book project "Truth, Justice, and American Way" is the upcoming 64 page color graphic novel created by writer, illustrator David Williams, writer Gabe Eltaeb and inker Gary Martin:
"'Truth', 'Justice', and 'American Way' are America's sweethearts. Adored by the young and the old, they save the world and charm their fans with the utmost style and grace.
"They are regulars on the late night talk shows making the audiences laugh and scream with delight. Kids everywhere eat their 'Truth, Justice, and American Way' cereal while wearing the t shirt and playing with the action figures. To say they're the world’s most beloved and famous heroes is putting it lightly.
"But one day there is a devastating attack, joy is turned into terror and many lives are lost. In the fallout from this tragedy, the news media begins to question if Truth, Justice, and American Way may...

With the upcoming worldwide release of the modern creature feature comedy Cute Little Buggers I was lucky enough to spend some time with the film’s director Tony Jopia to talk about his influences, bringing the bunnies to life and having fun on set.
How did first get in to filmmaking?
When I was 9 years old I was asked what I wanted to do at school. I remember seeing Airport 1975 (1974) and then not long after another film called the The Poseidon Adventure (1972). They both kind of set a firm seed in my mind that making moves is what I wanted to do. My father used to wake me up at midnight to watch all the creature feature movies that used to appear late at night. I had school the next day yet he would still wake me up at midnight and say, “Come and watch this”. It was the...

An ominous warning from the opening scene of Crying Wolf
Crying Wolf is the latest Horror-Comedy from UK director Tony Jopia (Deadtime, 2012). The story is told from the perspective of a character known only as “Private Detective” (played by Gary Martin who is best known in film for his work getting murdered by a tractor in 1986’s Slaughter High). The first thing that gets me is that Martin, a long-time voice over actor who you can hear in films like Neverending Story, Corpse Bride and Fern Gully (to say nothing of his collaborations with rock icons, Queen), appears to have dubbed his own dialog in Crying Wolf in an overly dramatic coffee commercial way. Something I immediately chalked up to an intentional touch of comedic irony. Because, why not. After Martin nearly comes to blows with a shopkeeper over his desire to purchase a book titled Crying Wolf,...

As we reported earlier, a new flick called Cute Little Buggers is heading our way in 3D (of course), and to get you geared up for the blood-spattered mayhem to come, we have about a dozen new stills on tap for you guys! Dig it!

The flick, described as Gremlins meets Hot Fuzz set in the English countryside, is set for release in June 2014.
Synopsis

They're out of this world, out of control and out to get you...at least according to the new and extremely early piece of teaser artwork for 'Cute Little Buggers'. The new British comedy horror project from director Tony Jopia has been inspired by classic little creature features from the past such as 'Critters' and 'Gremlins' but has the added bonus of a third dimension as the feature will hit theatres in 3D. The UK quad poster, shown below, features a couple of furry claws scratching along the title and just hinting at what the little buggers will look like. The movie stars Caroline Monroe, Joe Egan, Kristofer Dayne, Gary Martin, John R. Walker, Dani Thompson, Jess Jantschek, Samar Sarila, Jo Price, Sarah Bennett and Leslie Grantham and it'll land in UK theatres from 1 June 2014....

We've had Gremlins, Ghoulies, Critters, Little Monsters, and even Spookies (though we're still not entirely sure just what the hell that one was about); and now we have Cute Little Buggers heading our way! In 3D of course!
