When people remember "The Twilight Zone," they usually talk about the endings. Certainly, the show's endings are the greatest fodder for parodies — from "Treehouse of Horror" on "The Simpsons" to "The Scary Door," a show-within-a-show in "Futurama."
As an anthology series, each venture into the Twilight Zone stands on its own terms and ends conclusively; the only consistent face is series creator Rod Serling as the narrator. The whole point of the series is to put its characters in bewildering circumstances, so twist endings were a way to wring out one last bit of shock. That's not to say the endings were all about shock value; the best twist endings in "The Twilight Zone" reflect the episode's message or leave the viewer with a new perspective on what they just watched.
Happy endings aren't an impossibility in "The Twilight Zone," but they aren't the ones that people remember. Here are...

The Simpsons may have lost some of its edge after nearly 25 years on the air, but in its heyday during the '90s, it's tricky to find any other sitcom to match it in terms of wit and cutting satire. Halloween always brought out the best in the show's writers, with the special 'Treehouse of Horror' episodes taking on an anthology format to tell three spooky stories in The Simpsons' own unique style.
Popular films and TV shows often get affectionately spoofed, while for many The Simpsons will have been an introduction to Edgar Allan Poe's poem 'The Raven'. With Halloween upon us, Digital Spy takes a look back at 13 classic 'Treehouse of Horror' segments below...

"No TV and no beer make Homer go crazy!" In this Halloween special, Homer and co become caretakers of Mr Burns's mansion in a brilliant homage to The Shining.

Author Gene O'Neill is a man with a plan. That plan is to write and get paid. He hopes that readers begin to recognize his work and seek him out. He certainly has the skill set having graduated from Clarion in a class filled with, what are now, successful writers. But he was sidetracked along the way because the one thing more important to him than writing is family. But now he is back on track and I was able to sit down with him in late 2012 at Dark Delicacies and have an extensive conversation.
One of the first things you wrote that sticks in my head was the Burden of Indigo short story in Twilight Zone Magazine in 1981. What had you done prior to that that made you think "Hey, I can write short stories"?

Where can you go to get the best science fiction and fantasy in any given year? Anywhere that sells the annual Nebula and Hugo anthologies, naturally! This year, the collected nominated Nebula short stories and novelettes are gathered together in a tome called Nebula Awards Showcase 2011, edited by the esteemed and highly talented author Kevin J. Anderson. Included is the winning novella, the incredible The Women of Nell Gwynne’s by Kage Baker; the three poems nominated for the Rhysling Awards; a story by the Sfwa Author Emeritus, Neal Barrett Jr., “Getting Dark”; and a story introduced by the Sfwa Grand Master, Damon Knight, by Joe Haldeman, the newest Grand Master, “A Tangled Web.”
Winners of the other awards given out are also included, like the Nebula Award for the Best Novel, The Windup Girl by Paulo Bacigalupi; the Andre Norton Award for Young Adult Science Fiction and Fantasy winner,...

V (2009) The Complete First Season Blu-Ray Warner Bros. Home Entertainment2009-2010/Not Rated/520 minsList Price: $49.99 – Now AvailableV is so 1983, isn't it? I actually have fond memories of Kenneth Johnson's sci-fi miniseries which aired in two installments between '83 and '84. It was almost as if someone had taken the old Twilight Zone episode To Serve Man (based on a short story by Damon Knight) and adapted it into a television epic. For an eight-year-old kid, the series was both scary and hokey at the same time. Scary every time a Visitor's true nature was revealed and hokey after I realized how poor the visual f/x make-up was. Didn't really matter because back in the eighties, there weren't too many exciting shows on TV with such large production values especially in the sci-fi genre. Plus, who could beat the sexiness of Jane Badler as Diana, Commander of the Visitors?...

Word emerged yesterday that Leonardo DiCaprio's Appian Way would join with Warner Bros. to produce an all new silver screen version of "The Twlight Zone." Rod Serling's classic sci-fi/fantasy/horror TV series ended in 1964, but it has seen a number of TV revivals since then. The only feature-length adaptation came in 1983, a multi-part, multi-director effort with contributions from the likes of Steven Spielberg, Joe Dante, George Miller and John Landis.
All we know about the coming "Twilight Zone" return so far is that the aim is to produce a continuous story based on any number of classic series plotlines. Quite a different approach from the 1983 version's discrete vignettes, but it's good to know that Serling's original stories will be serviced. The question is, which would be best for the coming movie? Keep reading for my own suggestions. And beware... spoilers ahead.
