Some of New York City’s biggest names in real estate were in attendance at The Hollywood Reporter‘s third annual New York Power Broker Awards. The ceremony, held on July 29 at a private members’ club in lower Manhattan, honored the prestigious agents in eight categories.
This year’s New York Power Broker Awards party celebrated 30 agents who were featured on THR‘s 2024 Top New York Real Estate Agents list, exclusively chosen based on media visibility, sales numbers, and the prestige of properties listed. They were given awards in eight categories.
As with the previous ceremonies, the event was presented by luxury real estate PR firm The Society Group. Sponsored by interior design and home styling company Vesta Home, the night kicked off with a cocktail hour, as guests mingled over canapés.

Dozens of Hollywood players are staring anxiously at empty Louis Vuitton trunks this week, wondering if A-list stars and select filmmakers will get the greenlight from SAG-AFTRA to attend the rapidly approaching Venice Film Festival.
The union’s interim agreements have been a focal point over the past weeks of the contentious strike, as the deals allow some productions to resume and select finished films to engage in publicity. Venice kicks off Aug. 30, and the only two projects granted an interim agreement to promote so far are Michael Mann’s “Ferrari” and Luc Besson’s “Dogman.” It remains unclear if those casts – led by Adam Driver and Penelope Cruz, and “Oppenheimer” star Christopher Denham and Caleb Landry Jones, respectively – will turn up at the Palazzo del Cinema.
Leadership at SAG-AFTRA previously said they’ve received hundreds of applications for the interim agreements, leaving many a marketing executive and talent rep scrambling for answers.

Venice artistic director Alberto Barbera insists strikes will have “quite modest” impact on festival
Says that American movies that were invited have confirmed they will play in Competition.
Venice Film Festival artistic director Alberto Barbera has insisted the US actors and writers’ strikes will have a “quite modest” impact on this year’s festival.
At a press conference to announce the festival line-up today, Barbera admitted the past week of the selection process had been “quite troubled” as a result of the strike and that it was difficult to finalise the programme.
He added, however, that “luckily enough the consequences of this strike - which has very good motivations we can agree to -...

Today La Biennale di Venezia announced 82 selections including highly anticipated world premieres Bradley Cooper’s “Maestro,” Yorgos Lanthimos’ “Poor Things,” Sofia Coppola’s “Priscilla,” David Fincher’s “The Killer,” Michael Mann’s “Ferrari” and, in a surprise, Ava DuVernay’s “Origin.”

Exclusive: The wild story of crypto couple Ilya “Dutch” Lichtenstein and Heather “Razzlekhan” Morgan is headed to the screen. Hulu is in early development on the limited series Razzlekhan: The Infamous Crocodile of Wall Street, from Searchlight Television. Lily Collins (Emily In Paris) is set to star as Morgan in the project, which she is producing with Charlie McDowell, who is slated to direct, and Alex Orlovsky.
The trio also produced Windfall, directed by McDowell with Collins starring opposite Jesse Plemons and Jason Segel. The film was released earlier this year on Netflix.
Based on the New York magazine article “The Many Lives of Crypto’s Most Notorious Couple,” the series focuses on Lichtenstein and Morgan, tipped to be either the masterminds behind one of the largest heists in history or a pair of hapless wannabe entrepreneurs who somehow stumbled onto a hard drive containing 3.6 billion in Bitcoin stolen from the Finex exchange.

Bong Joon-ho is a true cinephile’s cinephile. After years as a darling of America’s indie film scene, the South Korean writer-director enjoyed massive mainstream success with 2019’s “Parasite,” which swept the Oscars and made him one of the most talked about filmmakers in the world. His projects are famous for combining aspects of multiple genres and the director’s favorite films are similarly eclectic. His all time favorites run the gamut from Bergman and Truffaut to Tarantino and Spike Jonze, and now movie lovers can hear his thoughts on 2021’s crop of movies.
In the latest print issue of South Korean film magazine Filo (via World of Reel), the auteur said his favorite films of 2021 were (in no order): “Don’t Look Up,” “Drive My Car,” “Flee,” “Sundown,” “The Mitchells vs. The Machines,” “Happening (L’événement),” and “Sewing Sisters.” He also said he enjoyed watching 2019’s “Sorry We Missed You...

The director of after-school special turned social horror movie “After Lucia” and harrowing class-uprising thriller “New Order” takes on a more relaxed vibe for his latest film, “Sundown.” That doesn’t make the new film from Mexican filmmaker Michael Franco any less bewildering in its story of a man who abandons his life to live beachside in Acapulco. If anything, “Sundown” is even more opaque than the director’s recent efforts. Watch the first trailer for the film below.
The film also stars a potent Charlotte Gainsbourg, Iazua Larios, Henry Goodman, Albertine Kotting McMillan, and Samuel Bottomley.
Here’s the official synopsis: “Neil and Alice Bennett are the core of a wealthy family on vacation in Mexico with younger members Colin and Alexa until a distant emergency cuts their trip short. When one relative disrupts the family’s tight-knit order, simmering tensions rise to the fore in this suspenseful jolt from writer/director Michel Franco.

Michael Franco’s latest collaboration with the actor sees Roth on a Mexican beach holiday, blissfully unaffected by grief
Neil Bennett is enjoying a nice holiday at a Mexican resort with his sister, Alice, and her two teenage kids. They’ve got the sea view and the infinity pool and a hotel entertainer to sing for them over supper. Then all of a sudden, disaster. The phone rings; their mother’s dead. So Neil does what any sensible son would do in his position. He pretends he’s lost his passport and therefore can’t fly home for the funeral. The woman’s dead anyway, so what does she care?
Clearly it’s wrong to laugh at Michel Franco’s brilliant Sundown but I’m afraid that I did all the same – several times while watching the movie; several more times when remembering it afterwards. It’s the funniest film...
