Dark Horse Comics is publishing physical editions of titles from Scott Snyder's Best Jackett Press and Night of the Ghoul #3 will be released on December 7th! A story surrounding a legendary lost film, this comic book series is perfect for any horror fan and we have an exclusive preview you can read right now!
"Shot in 1936, Night of the Ghoul by writer/director T.F. Merritt was meant to sit beside Frankenstein and Dracula as an instant classic . . . But the legendary film never made it to the silver screen. Just before editing was finished, a mysterious studio fire destroyed the footage and killed the cast and crew celebrating at the wrap party. Forest Inman is a horror film obsessive who digitizes old films for the famed Aurora movie studio. When Forest stumbles across a seemingly forgotten canister of footage, he just might have discovered the remnants of the lost classic Night of the Ghoul.

Without a doubt, this has been a decade like no other when it comes to mainstream exposure for the character of Deathstroke. Having appeared on the hit CW series Arrow, the Batman: Arkham video game franchise and (I hope) the upcoming film The Batman, Slade Wilson has reached a broad audience like never before.
Thankfully, the world’s deadliest mercenary has also had a comic book series to call his own since 2011, although it did endure some relaunches. Even so, readers have seen the likes of Kyle Higgins, Rob Liefeld, Tony Daniel and, most recently, Christopher Priest put their own unique stamp on the supervillain – or anti-hero, depending on who’s telling the story.
Since the Rebirth era kicked off, Deathstroke was counted among the series fortunate enough to enjoy a twice-monthly shipping schedule. But for reasons unknown at this time, which could be anything ranging from less than desired...

In the past few years, DC Comics have partnered with General Mills to offer exclusive comics packaged inside some of the most popular cereal boxes on the market. Well, the time has once again come for us to hunt down more books featuring the Justice League at our local grocer.
Before we get to the limited edition comics themselves, let’s discuss what separates this year’s offerings from those previous: The fact that known creators are putting heroic spins on cereal mascots. Don’t expect drastic overhauls as people still need to recognize the fictitious spokesmen, but I’d still say they’re certainly memorable.
Here’s what you can expect to find greeting you as you stroll down the breakfast aisle: Honey Nut Cheerios’ BuzzBee as Batman, drawn by Dave Johnson; Multi Grain Cheerios featuring Wonder Woman,...

Today's certainly a Batman kinda day. Recently-released interviews with Ben Affleck confirmed our scoop from a couple years ago that the title of the film would be The Batman. However, this wasn't the only Batman-related info to hit today.
One of the bigger pieces of news to drop in the past couple months prior to that title reveal came in the form of a video from the Affleck that revealed Deathstroke as the main villain in The Batman. Reception to this reveal was largely positive. Man of Steel, Batman v Superman, and Suicide Squad all dealt with rather otherworldly villains, and as such, the reveal of a relatively grounded villain like Deathstroke was a breath of fresh air.
But why did Affleck and co. decide to go with him as the big bad for The Batman? Speaking with Collider, Affleck gave his reasons for utilizing good ol' Slade Wilson.

Earlier this morning, we got confirmation that Ben Affleck’s upcoming solo outing as the Dark Knight is, in fact, titled The Batman. Thankfully, that’s not the only talking point we have been given today regarding that specific film.
During an interview promoting the soon-to-be released movie, The Accountant, Collider couldn’t help but ask why Deathstroke was the right villain to utilize in The Batman and Affleck gave the following response:
“He’s a great villain because—I just had an instinctive feeling that he would match up with him well. You know, I’m a big admirer of that character as well, especially in the New 52 the way that they did Deathstroke, and I thought that it could work.”
First, I’m not one to argue with his reasoning. Deathstroke will undoubtedly serve as both a great intellectual and physical foil for Batman himself. But, seeing as how he’s a mercenary,...

This past weekend was WonderCon out in La. DC made many announcements about it’s upcoming Rebirth, some of which we already had some idea about. Now we were given information on creative teams, like Scott Snyder heading up All-Star Batman with rotating artists including Sean Murphy and Paul Pope, and James Tynion IV taking the reigns on the soon to be back-numbered Detective Comics. One of the other Bat family announcements was that they will soon be revealing the Joker’s name.
Why?
The short answer is that Batman found out his name when he asked that question on the Möbius chair in Justice League #42 (42, the answer to the ultimate question of life. Coincidence?). The long answer is a combination of figuring out how to handle a decades old franchise coupled with changes in audience expectations.
Now, I know what you might be thinking. Don’t we already know the Joker’s name?...

The thing to remember about Scott Snyder is that he is not a superhero writer. For all of the Batman comics that he writes, he’s a horror writer, applying his trade more obviously to Wytches and American Vampire. Those titles are built on their dark mood and atmosphere. Rafael Albuquerque and Jock are two artists that Snyder has repeatedly worked with who can illuminate the darkness of the world. Snyder does that with his writing as well. American Vampire has been a secret history of the United States, revealing an unseen horrific presence behind familiar events and places. Wytches does something similar but on a much smaller and more personal level. While Snyder has also tried to do the of superhero story in Superman Unchained, a fine but underwhelming miniseries with Jim Lee, his natural element is horror.

Batman and Robin Eternal #1
Story by James Tynion and Scott Snyder
Script by James Tynion
Pencils by Tony Daniel
Inks by Sandu Florea
Colors by Tomeu Morey
Letters by Tom Napolitano
Published by DC Comics
The relationship between Batman and his various Robins has always been a problematic one. There is something off about a wealthy, not-right-in-the head man, who saw his parents gunned down in front of his face choosing to train a young boy to be a soldier against criminals and supervillains. But there is also something nostalgic and heartwarming about Batman and a young Robin teaming up to take down the bad guys that fans of all eras can connect to from Adam West and Burt Ward in the campy 1966 Batman TV show to Batman and the intelligent Tim Drake in the 1990s cartoons and comics and even more recently with the father/son squabbles between Batman and Damian Wayne.

As you can see, Leto's phone background is the cover to Detective Comics Vol.2 #1, by Tony Daniel. This issue marked the first appearance of The Joker in DC's "New 52", and is also infamous for kicking off a story arc that saw the iconic Batman villain slice his own face off. Not something that's likely to happen in Suicide Squad of course - but does this indicate that Leto and David Ayer could be taking inspiration from this more recent incarnation of the Joker for the movie? Heath Ledger's take was definitely more influenced by the classic stories, so it would make sense that they'd want to change things up a bit this time. Then again, Leto might just be a fan of the cover! What do you guys think? More pics at the link below. Suicide Squad will be with us August 5, 2016.

They thought they were friends. A man-eating fish proved them wrong. In director Larry Fessenden’s Beneath, six recently graduated high school friends cross paths with a massive, sharp-toothed fish on the secluded Black Lake. Confronted with a life-or-death situation, the teens discover how weak their bond really is as tempers rise, panic sets in, and the fish opens its jaws for the next meal.
Warned not to go out on Black Lake by family friend Mr. Parks (Mark Margolis), Johnny (Daniel Zovatto) leads his pack of pals out on the water one morning, anyway, figuring they’ll just cross to the other side in their rowboat. The film is a potent blend of physical and psychological scares, and it’s getting a Blu-ray & DVD release via Scream Factory on March 25th. With the home media release coming soon, I recently chatted with Larry about his experience making Beneath.
Larry, thank you for taking the time to talk about your latest directorial feature, Beneath. To start things off, can you tell our readers what attracted you to direct this screenplay by Tony Daniel and Brian Smith?
Well, I really loved how contained the story was. It all takes place on a lake, on a tiny rowboat, and I’m a fan of the experiments Hitchcock would get up to where you sort of limit your options. He made a...

Veteran horror contributor and all-around cool guy Larry Fessenden has a lot of acting, directing and producing credits to his name. But he's never worked with anything quite like he did on Beneath. Fessenden recently sat down with Dread Central to talk about his new film.
First he gave us a brief synopsis of what viewers can expect when they hitch their anchor to Beneath. "It's a stylish little horror film about six teenagers stuck in a rowboat with a malevolent force under the water trying to get them," Fessenden said.
"It's a movie about the decisions they make to get out of the dilemma, and they're not all pretty decisions."
Indeed the film, which at first glance appears to be a monster movie, certainly has other, more devious intentions for viewers as they get deeper into the story and the characters become much less friendly with each other. "I'm...

Just one week after I asked writer Charles Soule if DC has greater plans for Doomsday, the publisher has answered my question by announcing a new crossover event that will span multiple books in May titled “Superman: Doomed.” The character first appeared in the New 52 universe in the Villains Month one-shot last September and went head to head with Superman in the first issue of Charles Soule’s “Superman/Wonder Woman.” However, “Superman: Doomed” will mark the first major confrontation between Superman and Doomsday since the New 52 launched in 2011.
The upcoming event will kick off in the “Superman: Doomed” #1 one-shot, written by “Superman” writer Scott Lobdell before crossing over into “Action Comics” from writer Greg Pak and then “Superman/Wonder Woman” with writer Charles Soule. Lobdell will then finish up the event within the pages of “Superman” #31.

Superman has taken quite the beating in the New 52. Multiple creative teams, titles, and crossovers have tried to capture his character for a new generation of fans, but none have completely succeeded. Grant Morrison’s run on Action Comics had a promising start with a younger Superman, but his run soon became quite incomprehensible. Tony Daniel’s run was sadly truncated, and the less said about Scott Lobdell the better. However, Greg Pak did a good job contrasting the young, impetuous New 52 Superman with the wiser and more powerful Earth 2 Superman in his opening arc of Batman/Superman and brings some of those elements to Action Comics #25. The story is set in Clark Kent’s early years as a crime fighter before he had the name Superman and happens...

Things certainly picked up in Arrow’s recent episode ‘Broken Dolls’, setting up intriguing new plot lines and circumstances for future episodes. Some of the notable aspects of ‘Broken Dolls’ were the introductions of two DC characters and the mention of an especially big DC villain. So far Season 2 has gotten off to a very good start.
Black Canary’s proper introduction was very well handled. The sonic device she used in the episode’s opening was a very clever adaptation of her powers in the comics. Arrow making her a priority at first was a nice touch as he’s still concerned with copycat vigilantes, but she’s clearly quite different from the rest of them. Not only is she very well trained, she seems to have come from a certain league known for training some superheroes and villains. Why she has come to Starling City will be a...

Pick Of The Week! - Superman/Wonder Woman #1 - Charles Soule & Tony DanielI have been waiting probably over two months for this book. Tony Daniel is one of my all-time favorite artists at DC right now (their whole slate of artists pretty much consists of A-Listers) and I really enjoyed the Villain’s Month one-shots by Charles Soule, however I’ve never really read any of his comics before, so I was a bit scared to go into this book and I pretty much knew nothing about the writing quality it could be. However, doing this resulted in reading one of my favorite single-issue comic books of the year. This book really has it all. It has a perfect balance on the relationship aspect, the action aspect and quite frankly, it is very good at telling stories in a unique manner. In this book, Superman and Wonder Woman are investigating...

Justice League: Throne Of Atlantis takes readers on an unforgettable trip to the depths of Atlantis’ characters and mythology like never before. This book by Geoff Johns, Ivan Reis, Tony Daniel & the rest of the team is an absolutely fantastic collection worthy of a purist’s shelf. From absolutely beautiful pencils translated into sharp inks with colors that fill your eyes with wonders, the third volume of Geoff Johns’ New 52 Justice League is not one to miss, at all. Johns somehow always has the ability to take some pretty well-defined characters and leave them in a completely different emotional (or sometimes, even, physical) place by the end of a story-arc. When the New 52 started, did you ever think that Superman and Wonder Woman would be a couple with such great development? Me neither. Regardless, Throne of Atlantis is a perfect example of taking a cinematic scope piece of work...

It's Villains Month for DC Comics and they've taken over every title from Detective Comics to Aquaman and beyond! What better way to celebrate than to release a graphic novel featuring all the origins of the most infamous criminals to go up against Batman, Superman, The Flash, Shazam, and all our other favorite super heroes. Necessary Evil: Super-Villains of DC Comics serves as a companion to the full-length documentary DVD of the same name.
Necessary Evil: Super-Villains of DC Comics is comprised of 26 origin tales and stories featuring Bane, Ra's al Ghul, Zod, Sinestro, Black Adam, Lex Luthor, Reverse-Flash, Catwoman, Poison Ivy, Harley Quinn, Black Manta, and many more. Each of them highlights a major event in the DC Universe and gives a breakdown of the villain's essential storylines and powers and weapons. If memory serves me well, these two-page introductions to each criminal were featured on DC's website at one point.

Pretty much everyone who saw "Man of Steel" agreed that Faora, the Kryptonian antagonist played by Antje Traue, was awesome. She was a scene-stealer, for sure, and fans have had their fingers crossed that the character would make a return in DC Comics.
According to artist Tony Daniel's pencils for "Superman/Wonder Woman" #1, fans have gotten their wish. The blog DC Women Kicking Ass has posted a progress shot of the cover, and it contains a character that is unmistakably Faora.
Check out the pencils after the jump.
Here's Daniel's full progress shot:
Did you see Faora? There she is.
That's 100%, most definitely her. Don't believe it? Here's a side-by-side comparison.
While this is Faora's debut in the DC's New 52 status quo, she's been part of the comics for decades now. She debuted way back in 1977's "Action Comics" #471. She was later re-named Zaora and teamed...

It looks like yesterday's simple domain name registration has turned into a full on thing: an "X-Force" movie is in development.
Bleeding Cool has reported that, according to a 'tip', Fox will use San Diego's Comic-Con International to announce a larger X-Men cinematic universe, including "X-Force." We hoped this would be the case back in February, and X-Force was one of our hunches.
X-Force co-creator Rob Liefeld even took to Twitter today to confirm that, yeah, an "X-Force" film is in development.
Yup. Was informed in March Rt @Graysonmm: @robertliefeld http://t.co/il1lbRtDud an X-Force movie?
— robertliefeld (@robertliefeld) July 12, 2013
He then went on to clarify that "informed" is much different from actually shooting a film, so hopes shouldn't be too high yet.
But with 215 issues (and counting) published, spread across two decades and six different series, what stories would make for the best X-Force movie?...

DC Comics was unexpectedly in need of finding another creative team for Action Comics after writer Andy Diggle announced he would be no longer writing the title before his first issue was even released in comic book stores. Diggle’s abrupt time writing the historic title only resulted in one issue, #19, being written by Diggle. Action Comics #19 was one of the best issues of the title since the beginning of the New 52 and it was unfortunate that Diggle’s time on Action Comics was very brief. While Diggle’s name was listed on issues #20 and #21 of the title, the artist, Tony Daniel, who was originally paired with Diggle to illustrate the title and who has had experienced with writing comics in the past, took over writing duties in issues #20 and #21. Daniel left the title after completing issue #21.

With all of the action in comics books, who is to say there can't be a little love as well? DC Comics has announced a brand new ongoing series that follows two of the most well-known superheroes in their library.
"Superman/Wonder Woman" comes after the two heroes got together in 2012. According to IGN, who revealed the new series, the comics will "serve to explore the budding relationship" between the two most powerful people in the DC universe.
Naturally, there will be some action as well, but the promotional art seems to paint a very romantic pictures of Superman and Wonder Woman. The series will be written by Charles Soule (known for "Swamp Thing") and drawn by Tony Daniel (who has worked on "Action Comics" and "Detective Comics").
Issue one will hit comic book stores everywhere in October. You can see the full promo page below:...

Reading Action Comics #19 is such a bittersweet experience. Andy Diggle has written what really feels like the first Superman comic of the New 52, but Diggle has also already left the book. Official reasons as to why have not really been given outright, but in all likelihood it’s another instance of editor interference creating extreme dissatisfaction with the creative teams. It’s been happening a lot at DC, and it’s getting to a point where it’s almost comical, if it weren’t such a bummer for the fans. Anyway, more about Superman, less about DC.
It’s the first book after Grant Morrison’s run (which I suspect will read better in collected format) so in a way it’s almost a reboot within a reboot. If you didn’t read any of Morrison’s run you won’t have any problems jumping into this issue.

DC’s latest round of Superman family solicitations for July have revealed that Scott Lobdell will be hopping onto “Action Comics” after Tony Daniel finishes his “fill-in” stint as writer after Andy Diggle abruptly stepped down from the title. According to the solicitation, Daniel himself will be stepping down as both artist and writer after issue #21, leaving Tyler Kirkham as the new illustrator.
There’s no word yet on whether or not Lobdell, who is already writing both “Superman” and the “Superman Annual” for July, will be taking over permanently as the lead writer on “Action” but many already suspect that he’ll just be filling in for issue #22.

A little over a year ago readers of Detective Comics got a little surprise. Since DC was issuing its “New 52″ plan, writers got the chance to start over and create a new and rich story line. That is exactly what happened in Detective Comics #1. The issue revolved around the Joker, as any new Batman series should, and let readers glimpse at how insane he really was.
Due to a long chain of events, and carefully planned ones at that, the writer (Tony Daniel) managed the unthinkable. He surprised us readers. For years upon years I have read Batman comics and have not truly felt any shock...
