Lucasfilm released a new trailer for The Acolyte yesterday (see below) to mark this year's Star Wars Day celebrations, and a new poster for the next live-action Disney+ Star Wars series has now been unveiled at Ccxp Mexico.
Some fans on social media initially attempted to pass this off as our first look at Darth Plagueis, but a closer look (see the knives?) reveals that it's actually Amandla Stenberg's character, Mae.
Possible spoilers ahead.
Speaking of Master Sol's former apprentice, a rumor relating to this enigmatic Force-wielder has re-emerged with some additional details. According to Daniel Richtman, both Stenberg and Manny Jacinto will actually play dual roles as two pairs of twins - one good, one evil.

To mark this year's Star Wars Day celebrations, Lucasfilm has released a brand-new trailer and poster for its next live-action Disney+ Star Wars series, The Acolyte.
In addition to some exciting lightsaber action, the teaser reveals more story details, as Jedi Master Sol (Lee Jung-jae) vows to bring his wayward former apprentice Mae (Amandla Stenberg) to justice.
Mae doesn't appear to be the only one taking down Jedi, however, as we also get a first proper look at the mysterious Sith villain who is behind the murders. His (her?) face is obscured (with a mask not too dissimilar to the ones Kylo Ren and his Knights wore in the sequel trilogy), which may indicate that this formidable warrior will ultimately be unveiled as an already established character.

On Tuesday, StarWars.com released the trailer for the upcoming Disney+ series “The Acolyte.” The mystery series looks to be something a little different for the “Star Wars” universe – a Jedi detective story set in a galaxy far, far away with some high-flying martial arts action.
“The Acolyte” follows respected a Jedi Master named Sol (Emmy Award-winning “Squid Game” star Lee Jung-jae) and Mae (“Bodies Bodies Bodies” star Amandla Stenberg), his former Padawan who’s grown up to become a dangerous, non-Jedi warrior, as they team up to investigate a crime spree. They uncover sinister secrets about how the world really works. “This isn’t about good or bad,” a character played by Jodie Turner-Smith warns. “This is about power, and who is allowed to use it.”

On this, the third annual celebration of Star Trek Day by Paramount+, the two-hour-long live-streamed event, was co-hosted by Tawny Newsome and Paul F. Tompkins.
In addition to announcements about the various series, the program included a loving tribute to Nichelle Nichols, who passed away on July 30 at the age of 89.
Newsome, of course, is also the voice of Ensign Beckett Mariner on Star Trek: Lower Decks, while Tompkins voices Dr. Migleemo and various other characters on the animated comedy.
The two also co-host the popular podcast Star Trek: The Pod Directive, which they were pleased to share -- as part of their hosting duties -- has been renewed for a third season.

Summer has ended, and school is in session as Quinta Brunson and Abbott Elementary taught a masterclass at the 6th Annual Black Reel TV Awards presented by idobi.
Brunson and her freshman comedy, Abbott Elementary proved that it’s just simple math as they racked up seven wins at this year’s Black Reel Television Awards. She won four awards on her own as she received Outstanding Comedy Series, Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series, Outstanding Writing in a Comedy Series for Abbott Elementary and Outstanding Guest Actress for A Black Lady Sketch Show. Brunson triumphed in a surprise upset of the comedy actress category over Issa Rae, the sentimental favorite, in her farewell season of Insecure.
While Glover led the pack in individual nominations with five, he was able to take home one win for Outstanding Actor, Comedy Series for Atlanta.

In June 2019, the gender-parity industry coalition ReFrame unveiled Rise, its two-year program to support the continuation of mid-level female directors’ careers. After a slight pandemic-affected delay, ReFrame Rise has now returned with its second cohort, which expands to include cinematographers.
Each woman will be matched with a career coach and a team of industry professionals to sponsor them (a relationship that involves a more committed level of participation than mentorship).
“We have learned firsthand the value of the sponsorship opportunity for women artists and look forward to supporting this next group as they level up and find sustainability in their careers,” Sundance Institute founding senior director of Artist Programs and ReFrame Leadership Council member Michelle Satter said in a statement. Westworld Season 4 Episode 3
Westworld is a very clever show. At times, it might be too clever for its own good, but although it can sometimes be difficult to follow the narrative, you always feel the writers have given every moment and twist serious thought. Nowhere is that more apparent than “Annees Folles.” In two very crucial ways, the episode marks a return to familiar environments: Bernard emerges from the Sublime with a new mission, and Maeve finds herself essentially back where it all began in the first season, albeit with slightly different window dressing.
I tend to really like when two plots mirror one another structurally, and Bernard’s emergence into the real world and Maeve’s return to a Delos theme park really scratch that itch for me. It’s fun to watch the two of them as parallels, both armed with the knowledge...

But when his father dies, Charlie discovers that he was Anansi: Trickster God of stories (played by Delroy Lindo). And he learns that he has a brother. Now that brother, Spider (also played by Kirby), is entering Charlie’s life, determined to make it more interesting—but making it a lot more dangerous instead.

The best visual stories, whether TV or film, have a clear justification for why they look the way they do. Sometimes the goal for a cinematographer is to make things look as beautiful as possible, but, when a show follows a single character’s perspective as closely as does “The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey,” the job it to ground the story’s look in that character’s relationship to the world. And Ptolemy Grey’s (Samuel L. Jackson) relationship to his world at the start of the series is one teetering on the edge. He is, as another famous character once put it, an old man filled with regret, waiting to die alone. Cinematographer Shawn Peters, who shot the first, third, and sixth episodes of the series, spoke to IndieWire about how Ptolemy’s changing levels of clarity informed the look of the series.

Per its official description, Amazon’s “Anansi Boys” follows Charlie, a young man who is used to being embarrassed by his estranged father, Mr. Nancy. But when his father dies, Charlie discovers that his father was Anansi: trickster god of stories. And he learns that he has a brother. Now his brother, Spider, is entering Charlie’s life, determined to make it more interesting but making it a lot more dangerous.

Amazon has ordered a series adaptation of the Neil Gaiman novel “Anansi Boys,” Variety has learned.
The streamer has given the limited series a six-episode order with plans in place to begin shooting in Scotland later this year. First published in 2005, “Anansi Boys” follows Charlie Nancy, a young man who is used to being embarrassed by his estranged father, Mr. Nancy. But when his father dies, Charlie discovers that his father was Anansi: trickster god of stories. And he learns that he has a brother. The character of Mr. Nancy appears in both “Anansi Boys” and the Gaiman novel “American Gods,” the latter of which is currently airing a series adaptation on Starz. However, there is no connection between the two projects and “Anansi Boys” will serve as a stand-alone story.

The character of Mr. Nancy appears in both “Anansi Boys” and the Gaiman novel “American Gods,” the latter of which is currently airing a series adaptation on Starz. However, there is no connection between the two projects and “Anansi Boys” will serve as a stand-alone story.

Amazon has ordered a series adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s fantasy novel Anansi Boys.
The author, who brought Good Omens to screen for the streamer, is writing the six-episode limited series with British comedy legend Sir Lenny Henry.
Shooting will begin on the series in Scotland later this year.
Anansi Boys follows Charlie Nancy, a young man who is used to being embarrassed by his estranged father. But when his father dies, Charlie discovers that his father was Anansi: trickster god of stories. And he learns that he has a brother. Now his brother, Spider, is entering Charlie’s life, determined to make it more interesting but making it a lot more dangerous.
Anansi Boys is a stand-alone story, not a sequel or spin-off of Gaiman’s novel American Gods, but Mr. Nancy, who was played by Orlando Jones in the Starz adaptation, does appear in both books.

Although Hanelle M. Culpepper has directed episodes of more than 30 shows, it wasn’t until CBS All Access’ “Star Trek: Picard” that the 49-year-old got to helm her first pilot. And that was before she joined the inaugural class of the ReFrame Rise program. Now, the sky’s the limit.
Given how many “Star Trek” series there have been, what visual approach did you want to take with the first three episodes of “Picard”?
I wanted it to feel inspired by where Picard was on his emotional journey. He was living in a vineyard; he felt trapped. So I wanted to have a little bit more of a static frame, and then go handheld once his world is rocked [in the pilot]. We switch to handheld cameras pretty much as much as possible after that. It’s “Star Trek,” we have to get those big, cinematic shots with drones and cranes and stuff,...

We’re heading into Emmy Awards season, and CBS is starting up its “For Your Consideration” campaign on many of its shows. Trek fans will be pleased to know that the network is pushing hard on Star Trek: Picard, which aired its smash hit debut season earlier this year. Fan and critical response was positive for the bold Next Generation sequel series, and CBS is hoping to turn that into a swathe of Emmy nominations for the cast and crew.
As well as suggesting the show for Outstanding Drama Series, the campaign to get the one and only Sir Patrick Stewart a nom for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series is leading the way. Stewart has received four Emmy nominations over his illustrious career, but never for Trek, so it would be a big deal if he could get some recognition for Picard.

It’s also exciting to have celebrated spec fic novelist Michale Chabon on the writing team alongside Hanelle M. Culpepper, Kirsten Beyer (Star Trek: Discovery), and Akiva Goldman. Given that the...
