"Madame Web" likely suffered from characters who are unfamiliar to broader audiences, who are not fans of the comic book. I had no knowledge of the villain, nor the three other heroes prior watching this movie, something that could've been resolved through effective marketing.
Yes, Dakota Johnson is a good actress, but unless the movie's title character has a similar charisma, Ms. Johnson was miscast, with her very low key personality. She was not a strong lead for the film.
And, this is all unfortunate, because it really appeared as though this film was a setup for, at least, one sequel.
Also, I thought Spider-Man is in the same 'universe,' so why was the villain treated the way he was?
Familiarity with all the characters, including who the villain is, and what his motives are, and a more outgoing personality in the lead protagonist, may have fixed "Madame Web."
