“Matt Rife: Natural Selection” is a special stand-up comedy with Matt Rife. It’s directed by Erik Griffin.
He’s handsome, very, very handsome. And, moreover, he knows it and, to top it off, he takes advantage of it. As he steps onto the stage, the outlandish screams of his fans (mostly female) reverberate in a setting where he appears, Matt Rife, with his brilliant blue eyes and perfect face to captivate everyone with his show.
Our friend has something for everyone and all tastes, and it seems that his loyal audience doesn’t mind when he uses irony whereas he disdains the younger generation for being ignorant and adores (albeit with irony) the elderly.
Well, comparing Michael Jackson to an Asian woman was quite funny, let’s admit it.
Matt delivers his “roguish” discourse with intelligence and irony, making us realize that, deep down, it’s all a character...

When it comes to creating buzzy online content for their hundreds of thousands of followers, the Lewberger trio — Keith Habersberger, Alex Lewis and Hughie Stone Fish — are mavericks.
Formed in 2016, the comedy music group has become a poster child for how to be successful in the social media age, and increasingly among fervid musical theater fandoms. Viral Broadway covers, along with earlier career appearances on America’s Got Talent, Bring The Funny and collaborations with Habersberger’s other gig The Try Guys, have helped garner the musicians countless fans.
It’s also helped the band wrack up enough social capital to produce their own shows, including a very short L.A. run of what has since become an Off-Broadway musical, Lewberger & The Wizard of Friendship.
“This show is very much catered to the way that we interact together and catered to the way that our actual friendship is,” Lewis says. “The...

"Saturday Night Live" just announced the cast for its upcoming 48th season, and among the newcomers is the first openly nonbinary member, Molly Kearney. While this is a big moment for the LGBTQ+ community, this is not Kearney's first break in comedy. The comedian and actor, who uses gender-neutral pronouns "they" and "them," also plays Fern Dannely in Amazon's "A League of Their Own" and has been featured in Comedy Central's "Up Next" showcase for up-and-coming comedians and Disney+'s "The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers."
On Sept. 15, Kearney shared their excitement about joining the cast, writing on Instagram: "Meatbrick Moved To New York !!!!"
Kearney is one of four new cast members, including writer and actor Marcello Hernandez; Michael Longfellow, who appeared on NBC's "Bring the Funny"; and Devon Walker, who has written for shows like Freeform's "Everything's Trash" and Netflix's "Big Mouth." Fans of the show...

At the end of the 47th season of "Saturday Night Live" this past spring, the late-night sketch comedy show lost a quartet of comedians who decided to leave the series. Kate McKinnon, Aidy Bryant, Kyle Mooney, and Pete Davidson all bid farewell to the series in the season finale, but the departures didn't end there. Just a couple weeks ago, leading up to the 48th season premiere of "SNL," it was announced that repertory cast members Alex Moffat and Melissa Villaseñor would also be departing the show after six years, along with featured player Aristotle Athari, who lasted just a single season on the series.
All those cast members moving on from "SNL" left plenty of gaps to fill, even in an ensemble that's still pretty sizeable, but executive producer Lorne Michaels has some new blood who will be joining the cast as the latest round of featured players. Who are they?...

Lose some, add some. “Saturday Night Live” has named four new cast members for its upcoming season 48. Joining “SNL” are Marcello Hernandez, Molly Kearney, Michael Longfellow, and Devon Walker.
The (extremely) long-running NBC sketch comedy series lost some key players this summer, including Kate McKinnon, Kyle Mooney, Aidy Bryant, and (debatably key) Pete Davidson. They also trimmed Alex Moffat, Melissa Villaseñor, and Aristotle Athari.
Kearney has starred on Amazon’s “A League Of Their Own,” while Hernandez has opened for the likes of Tim Dillon and Gilbert Gottfried and appeared on Telemundo’s “Acceso Total.” Meanwhile, Longfellow appeared on NBC’s “Bring the Funny,” hosted by SNL’s own Keenan Thompson, and Walker has appeared on Comedy Central and has written for “Big Mouth” and Phoebe Robinson’s “Everything’s Trash.”

Saturday Night veteran Kenan Thompson will host the 74th Emmy Awards for NBC and the Television Academy. The three-hour, coast-to-coast live telecast from the Microsoft Theater at L.A. Live in downtown Los Angeles will air Monday, September 12 on NBC and stream live on Peacock for the first time.
This will be Thompson’s first time hosting the Emmys. He has recent awards emceeing experience: he hosted the 2021 People’s Choice Awards, which ran simultaneously on NBC and E! this past December, and returned as host of the 2022 NHL Awards a month and a half ago.
Thompson’s hire extends the streak of current or former SNL cast members/writers hosting all Emmy Awards ceremonies on NBC that have had a host since the return of the “wheel” system rotating the show among the Big 4 broadcast networks in the mid-1990s. It came down to the wire — the Emmys are next month, after all — but NBC and the Television Academy have finally found a host for this year’s ceremony: “Saturday Night Live” star Kenan Thompson.
Thompson, the longest-running cast member in “SNL” history, was named after a lengthy search by NBC, the Academy and Emmys producers Done+Dusted and Reggie Hudlin to find an A-list name that might shake things up. It turns out, the A-lister was in their own backyard. The telecast will air live Sept. 12 on NBC, and stream on Peacock as well.

“Being a part of this incredible evening where we honor the best of the television community is ridiculously exciting, and to do it on NBC – my longtime network family – makes it even more special,” Thompson said in a statement. “Like all TV fans, I can’t wait to see the stars from my favorite shows.

Kelly Clarkson's two-episode stint on America's Got Talent is over.
With Simon Cowell still recuperating from surgery following the freak accident that resulted in his back being broken, NBC has announced he will not return to the talent show for this week's live shows.
Filling in this week is Kenan Thompson, who will join judges Howie Mandel, Heidi Klum, and Sofia Vergara as they proceed with the live shows.
Cowell suffered a serious injury while testing his new electric scooter outside his Malibu home.
The star took to Twitter to update fans on his condition and said the following:
“Some good advice… If you buy an electric trail bike, read the manual before you ride it for the first time.”
“Thank you to everyone for your kind messages. And a massive thank you to all the nurses and doctors. Some of the nicest people I have ever met.”

Kenan Thompson will join “America’s Got Talent” as a guest judge this week while Simon Cowell continues to recover from back surgery, NBC announced Monday.
Thompson will join Howie Mandel, Heidi Klum and Sofia Vergara at the judges’ table on this week’s live episodes on Tuesday and Wednesday, following “American Idol” alum Kelly Clarkson, who filled in as guest judge last week.
Cowell underwent five-hour back surgery earlier this month after suffering a serious injury while testing his new electric bike outside his Malibu, California, home. His representatives said in a statement that the operation involved “a number of fusions and metal rod put into his back,” and Cowell remained in the hospital recovering.

The industry’s first directing pipeline program for unscripted shows has set its 2019-2020 class, helping to create equal representation behind the scenes on alternative series.
The Alternative Directors Program was launched two years ago to give experienced female and ethnically diverse directors the opportunity to expand their repertoire of alternative formats and complex directing styles. The ultimate goal is hiring them as show directors on an NBC or Universal Television Alternative Studios series.
This year, the program directors will rotate through two to three alternative shows across the network’s daytime, primetime and late night line-ups. During their tenure on each show, they will shadow the respective show directors through prep and production, with the goal of directing a meaningful segment on one of the shows they shadow. NBC has pushed The Kenan Show to the 2020/21 season as the network becomes the latest broadcaster to talk up its off-cycle development process.
The Kenan Show was picked up to series in May but NBC wanted to give Kenan Thompson time to craft the show and manage his workload, given he’s still on Saturday Night Live and Bring The Funny.
Paul Telegdy, who became sold Chairman of NBC Entertainment in October, revealed the move during his exec session at the Winter TCA press tour.
“When a star is given to this network time and time again, we reciprocate. What we gave Kenan back was time, time to create a show he wants, time to do the projects he’s doing and that he loves, and a little time for his family. NBC’s “America’s Got Talent” performance finale was Tuesday’s top show. Unfortunately, the same network’s “Bring the Funny” season finale was not No. 2, and NBC ended up in a first-place ratings tie with ABC, which only aired its “Bachelor in Paradise” season finale.
In terms of total viewers, last night’s primetime Nielsen averages weren’t all that close — and ABC wasn’t even runner-up by that metric.
NBC and ABC tied first in ratings, both with a 1.3 rating/7 share in the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic, according to preliminary numbers. NBC was first in total viewers with 7.7 million, ABC was third with 4.4 million.

NBC is set to win its sixth straight September-to-September season in the key 18-49 demo’s TV ratings, while CBS will be the victor during that same 52-week span in terms of total viewers.

Suddenly, Beverly Hills, 90210 isn’t the hottest zip code in Los Angeles. Fox’s “BH90210” has suffered the steepest “live” TV ratings drop — down 60% from series premiere to last week’s penultimate episode — of all summer shows on broadcast.

The low-key battle for top summer reality show honors continues as NBC’s America’s Got Talent won Tuesday’s primetime, rising a tenth from last week to a night-leading 1.4 rating in the adults 18-49 demographic and 9.06 million viewers.
On a night where some local stations preempted programming for coverage of Hurricane Dorian, the rise of America’s Got Talent left ABC’s Bachelor in Paradise behind. The romantic reality franchise slipped a tenth from last week’s adjusted rating to touch a season low for a second week running in early numbers.
All else was fairly quiet on the broadcast TV front as reruns roamed freely. With Agt as its lead-in, NBC’s comedy competition Bring the Funny held steady with the laughs. It gave the network an easy win in both metrics for the night.

NBC’s America’s Got Talent and ABC’s Bachelor In Paradise, two reality series that have consistently perform well, both stumbled Tuesday night.
Agt took the biggest hit. Even though it won the night in both metrics, the NBC reality competition fell three tenths from last week to a 1.3 rating in the adults 18-49 demographic to go with 8.9 million viewers. It was a similar story for Bachelor in Paradise, which dropped a tenth to touch a season low.
With repeats peppered throughout the other networks in primetime, the action elsewhere stayed relatively quiet with the exception of the CW’s investigative docuseries Mysteries Decoded, which ticked up. Meanwhile, the network’s sci-fi series Pandora stayed on par with last week.
With Agt as its lead-in, Bring the Funny held steady. Fox’s First Responders Live also matched last week’s ratings.

The great pride on Discovery Channel’s “Serengeti” is not so great at forgiveness.
On Sunday, Kali tests the waters (ironically in the grassland region of northern Tanzania) as to whether or not she and her cubs will be let back in to the group, despite that big scarlet “A” permanently shaved into her fur. Yeah, she had cubs outside of the pride, a real no-no in the lion community.
Much like their plains-mates the elephants, lions apparently never forget, and Kali and her kids are not welcome back. At least, not for now.

Kirsten Dunst was pretty selective when it came to picking her first series regular role since starring on the second season of FX’s “Fargo” in 2015.
But what finally made her come around to returning to the small screen was the George Clooney-produced “On Becoming a God in Central Florida” — which was initially set up at AMC in 2017, before moving over to YouTube Premium in 2018, and then being picked up by Showtime in June — was the story “about the inner rage of a woman who’s swallowed too much s–t.”
“I almost backed out a couple of times, but it kept calling me back,” Dunst told TheWrap during the Television Critics Association press tour earlier this month. “It was just too good. It was too fun of a role to play and the whole world was so weird to me and I’d never seen anything like it on television.
