While anime fans still look forward to the third season of One Punch Man, the beloved manga series may now have a future in theaters. Sony’s Columbia Pictures announced a live-action film way back in 2020 and the progress has been really slow on the project. Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner were initially signed on as writers, but the latest reports suggest that Rick and Morty writers Dan Harmon and Heather Anne Campbell are rewriting the script.

If you haven’t taken the leap to bundle Disney+ and Hulu, it might be time. Streaming is only getting more expensive and competitive, and the enticing bundle (which also includes ESPN) might be a version of cable TV, but it’s also just cost efficient. Disney+ and Hulu are so intertwined that their monthly listing updates come in the same email — and as such, we decided to compile them here for you in the same list.
Whether you have Disney+ or Hulu, or both (and the IndieWire staff has weighed on our favorites), each has its benefits. Disney has the family-friendly titles, the Star Wars and Marvel (new episodes of “The Bad Batch” and “X-Men: 97” continue through April), while Hulu is the place to catch FX originals and network episodes. Both streamers have the rights to distribute National Geographic titles, which are well worth exploring along with the rest of the library.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s recent Jumanji films have reignited excitement for the franchise, but fans are confused about the title of the next installment. The debate centers on whether it should be called Jumanji 3 or Jumanji 5.
Robin Williams, Bradley Pierce, and Kirsten Dunst in Jumanji
The confusion stems from how the Jumanji franchise has changed over time. There’s the original movie with Robin Williams and the newer reboot series with The Great One.
Suggested“He has Jumanji 5 coming out”: One Hollywood Actor Makes Even Joe Rogan Feel Lazy and It’s Not Dwayne Johnson
So, fans are unsure if the next movie follows the original story, making it Jumanji 3, or if it’s part of the reboot series, which would make it Jumanji 5. Plus, there’s also confusion about whether Jumanji 4 would be happening or not.

Scottish actress Karen Gillan is certainly one of the hottest young stars of the modern era, best known for playing or playing Amy Pond, a primary companion to the Eleventh Doctor in Doctor Who, as well as Nebula in the MCU. But, one of her recent major roles has also been in the reboot/sequels of the Jumanji film series, where she portrayed Ruby Roundhouse, a character from the game.
The original Jumanji movie starring the late Robin Williams has become a children’s classic and the series was continued with a soft reboot/sequel titled Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle back in 2017. The movie starred Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart, and – of course – Gillan, all of whom reprised their roles in the 2019 sequel, Jumanji: The Next Level.

It’s the most wonderful time of year, when movie studios release their big end of the year blockbuster films and their small prestige pictures vying for Oscar glory. Only problem is: this year Santa seems to be delivering a big lump of coal to the box office as the end of year box office relies heavily on a franchise that has completely crashed and burned throughout 2023.
That’s right, this year we don’t have any Avatar: The Way of Water or Spider-Man: No Way Home or Jumanji: the Next Level or Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. No, this years Holiday box office fate rides pretty heavily on the final film in the DC Extended Universe, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. Granted, this is the DC film that has the biggest shot at success as the first film is the highest grossing DC film of all time with a worldwide take of $1.15 Billion.

Do you smell what Benny Safdie is cooking? It’s a collaboration with Dwayne Johnson for the A24 film The Smashing Machine. Johnson will play legendary Mma fighter Mark Kerr from the no-holds-barred era of UFC in the new project. A24 is thrilled to reteam with Safdie after the filmmaker’s 2019 cinematic stress test Uncut Gems, starring Adam Sandler as a crooked New York City jeweler in over his head.
In addition to his directorial duties, Safdie is co-writing the script, which focuses on Kerr’s struggle with addiction, victory, love, and friendship in the year 2000. Likely to veer into more severe territory, The Smashing Machine gives Johnson a rare opportunity to flex his drama muscles for cameras. While some could be confused about what that looks like, Safdie is known for bringing the best out of his film stars.
Kerr is an American former wrestler and mixed martial artist.

In Latin America, Wonka was tops for the region with 63% market share, surpassing the above comps by 232%, 145% and 129%, respectively. In Europe, the film was No. 1 in each of its launches.
As expected, the UK was the lead play at $11.1M, boasting a 73% market share of the Top 5. This will be the 2nd biggest opening for a Warner Bros film in 2023, behind Barbie,...

Back in 2015, just as Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson was cementing his status as one of the world's biggest movie stars, the wrestler-turned-actor starred in the highly successful disaster flick "San Andreas." This was actually one of the movies that proved Johnson could help open a big blockbuster outside of a major franchise. He had earned the reputation of being "franchise Viagra" given what he was able to do for "Fast & Furious," "G.I. Joe," and other established properties.
"San Andreas" sees the infamous San Andreas Fault finally give, which triggers a massive magnitude 9 earthquake in California. Rescue helicopter pilot Raymond Gaines (Johnson) and his estranged wife must then make their way from Los Angeles to San Francisco to save their daughter. It was a huge success, taking in $474 million worldwide against a $110 million budget. That being the case, Warner Bros. was very quick to announce a squeal back in early 2016. Paul Noble, the London-born executive who spent the past eight years with Sony Pictures Entertainment, the last three as the studio’s co-head of global theatrical marketing, has died. He was 51.
Noble died Sept. 9 at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles after a two-year battle with bulbar Als, an Spe spokesperson announced.
“Paul was a rare and marvelous human being, possessed with an abundance of positivity, warmth, humor and kindness,” Spe Motion Picture Group chairman and CEO Tom Rothman wrote in a note to employees. “He faced his diagnosis with courage and grace and in doing so set a remarkable example for his family and, indeed, for all of us.
“To say he will be missed is, of course, an understatement. But his memory will surely be cherished by anyone lucky enough to have known him.”
In July 2019, Noble and Andre Caraco were promoted to co-presidents of global marketing at Sony.

Updated, 9:21 a.m.: Warner Bros on Thursday unveiled the first full-length trailer for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, the very long awaited sequel to the subaquatic James Wan superhero pic which remains one of DC’s biggest successes.
“Four years ago, I was basically unemployed, a wanderer with no home,” Jason Momoa’s title character proclaims in the segment. “But now, I’m a husband and a father. And I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
He’s now got a job, as well, looking after a kingdom of half a billion as King of Atlantis. But not everything comes easily for him in the sequel, as Black Manta (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) returns in hopes of taking him out.

Prime Video dropped a sneak peek of “Wheel of Time” Season 2 ahead of its release on Sept. 1, which fans can now watch at the end of last season’s finale.
According to the Amazon-owned streamer, the special look “reflects the structure of the best-selling and epic “The Wheel of Time” book series by Robert Jordan,” in which he would add the first chapter of the next book as a preview.
The scene, which opens the first episode of the second season, is an adaptation of the fan favorite “Darkfriend Social” prologue of the second novel of Jordan’s series, “The Great Hunt,” upon which “Wheel of Time” Season 2 is largely based. It’s also based on some elements of Jordan’s third novel, “The Dragon Reborn.”

Even people who don't typically pay attention to box office numbers are surely aware that Warner Bros. and Mattel hit a home run with "Barbie." With Margot Robbie as the title character and Greta Gerwig in the director's chair, the film has been a smash hit thus far, breaking records while fending off the likes of "Oppenheimer" and "Haunted Mansion" to sit comfortably atop the charts all over the world. Now, the movie gets to count itself among the 100 biggest movies in history just shy of two full weeks into its theatrical run.
According to The Numbers, "Barbie" has now earned $804.3 million worldwide, including a massive $15.2 million on Tuesday. With that, Gerwig's blockbuster now enters the all-time top 100 at the box office, coming in at 97 just above "Jumanji: The Next Level" ($798.2 million). It will -- perhaps by the end of the sentence -- pass "Shrek the Third" ($807.3 million) to move up another spot.

Awkwafina is… searching for her first Emmy nomination. The multi-hyphenate star has seen her status as a performer and creative rise rapidly within the last few years but she has yet to receive the recognition a comedian of her talents might well deserve from the Emmys.
With “Awkwafina is Nora From Queens,” however, that could change. Created by Awkwafina and “Family Guy” and “American Dad” writer/producer Teresa Hsiao, this Comedy Central hit is a vehicle for Awkwafina’s star power. It follows Awkwafina as Nora, a fictionalized version of herself, who is a 20-year-old-something woman living in Queens, New York who longs for something better than she currently has. She finds herself in various situations, ranging from the aggravating to the bizarre, and has to deal with her family, too, led by her dad (Bd Wong) and grandma (Lori Tan Chinn). Members of the Directors Guild of America have until Friday to vote on their new contract, and those contacted this week by Variety were overwhelmingly voting yes.
In interviews, members noted the contract includes significant gains in residuals, creative rights, safety provisions and working hours.
But several also indicated that they have no interest in compounding Hollywood’s labor strife. Most directors and below-the-line DGA members have been out of work since the Writers Guild of America strike began on May 2.
“I’ve been around long enough that is a pretty good deal, and I’d like to get back to work,” said Matt Rebenkoff, who has worked as a first assistant director on “Don’t Look Up,” and “Jumanji: The Next Level.”
The sentiments expressed in interviews run counter to the prevailing mood on Twitter, where members have been urging a “no” vote. Opponents of the deal include prominent writer-directors such as Warren Leight,...

This post contains major spoilers for "Fast X."
Come what may in the future, the main series of "Fast & Furious" is coming to an end, with "Fast X" now in theaters. It's been billed from the start as a two-part finale to the Fast Saga, with "Fast & Furious 11" teed up by the film's cliffhanger ending. As for what's to come in the presumed finale (assuming it doesn't actually become a trilogy)? That remains uncertain, but for those who have seen the movie, we know a couple of things for sure. 1) Dom and the gang have unfinished business with Jason Momoa's Dante. 2) The Rock is returning as Luke Hobbs to finish his business with the franchise's new big baddie.
In a mid-credits scene attached to "Fast X," we see a masked man wandering some sort of warehouse set up by Dante — the son of Herman Reyes, the main villain...

Karen Gillan says Nebula is “starting to accept love” in ‘The Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3’. The ‘Jumanji: The Next Level’ star feels her character in the James Gunn-helmed Marvel flick is beginning to “heal a little bit” from the mistreatment she suffered at the hands of her late father, Thanos. The 35-year-old actress told HeyUGuys.com: “So we met Nebula after, you know, the death of her father, Thanos, that we saw in ‘Endgame’. “So she’s actually starting to heal a little bit from the trauma inflicted by her father, so she’s starting to accept love a little bit more. Maybe she’s able to show other people love, which kinda manifests in a slightly lighter personality. It’s like a weight has been lifted from her, and she’s slightly more humorous now and able to show emotion more. Karen also admitted she is “lucky...

Amazon Studios is heading to the supermarket.
The company has acquired Jennifer Harrington’s feature script titled Hell’s Belles. The comedy will follow three female grocery store employees who have always wanted to stand up to their repellent boss, Ron, but have never found the fortitude. They must somehow find that resolve after discovering Ron is actually Satan and on the verge of taking over the universe.
The project is in development at Amazon with longtime producing partners Jake Kasdan and Melvin Mar on board to produce. Hell’s Belles marks a reteaming of sorts, at least on the development front, for Harrington and the pair. In early 2020, Sony snapped up Harrington’s original spec script It’s the End of Liz as we Know It in a highly competitive situation with Kasdan and Mar on board to produce.
In addition to Hell’s Belles and Liz, Harrington also worked on the Apple TV+ documentary Dear…...

ABC‘s The Company You Keep continues to recruit great talent for its stellar cast. From Bridget Regan in the premiere to Luke Kirby in episode 3, we have been mighty impressed. And the latest addition to the cast of The Company You Keep is Marin Hinkle, who plays Claire Fox in episode 4, “All In.”
Marin Hinkle as Claire Fox | ABC/Eric McCandless Marin Hinkle joins the cast of ‘The Company You Keep’ as Claire Fox
The Company You Keep fans first heard the name Claire Fox in episode 3 when David Hill received a call from her. His senatorial campaign was running on fumes. And he was desperate to gain any traction in the polls, especially after his party threatened to pull their support. So when Claire called David, he was willing to hear her out.
We don’t know much about Claire, but we infer she’s bad news. Joseph Hill...

Go See It!
Most sequels have a tough enough job just living up to their first movie, and this one would have had a big enough job just being a sequel to the original Shazam! What director David F. Sandberg’s first movie had was the novelty of the story of a boy having the power to just speak a magic word and finding himself in his now adult “ultimate form”, plus the power of being nearly Superman’s equal (some would argue even more), a fun novelty super hero movie. The story also had the subplot of young Billy Batson’s quest to find his mother after having been in foster homes his whole life, only to realize that the foster home he is in has provided him with the family he really needed by the end of the movie. In the end, he creates the Shazam family,...
