Law & Order has been on the air for decades, but one popular series looked like it was on the chopping block. Currently, the franchise has Law & Order, Law & Order: Svu, and Law & Order: Organized Crime. NBC already canceled the original L&o once before bringing it back and now Organized Crime is on the chopping block.
However, there is good and bad news for fans of the Elliot Stabler-led L&o series.
Law & Order Series Receives Late Renewal
It looked like Organized Crime was getting canceled. While fans were overjoyed to see Det. Elliot Stabler return to TV in a series unlike any other in the franchise, the network was not moving very fast on a renewal for a fifth season. With the other two series getting season renewals, the longer fans waited for Organized Crime, the scarier it got.

Bob Iger recently discussed how the MCU is cutting back on its creative work. He mentioned that fans can look forward to about 2 or 3 movies a year and 2 shows. That’s much less than what was initially planned and what we’re used to.
Right now, there are over 30 MCU projects rumored or confirmed to be in the works. But, as Brad Winderbaum recently mentioned, not all of them will actually get made and released.
Recently, rumors have been circulating, sparked by the scooper and leaker MyTimeToShineHello, suggesting that Donald Glover is being considered for a writing role.
The leaker didn’t specify which project the studio is eyeing Glover for, but he does have ties to Disney and Marvel.

Bob Iger recently talked about MCU downsizing its creative input. He said that fans can expect roughly 2 or three films a year and 2 shows. Which is significantly less than what was originally planned and what we’re used to seeing.

It’s no secret that Lucasfilm, in recent years, hasn’t had an exceptional batting average regarding films announced and projects made. The list of “Star Wars” films and series announced in recent years that haven’t come to pass is too long to list but includes an unrealized new trilogy from Rian Johnson, a movie from Taika Waiti that may or may not get made, “Rangers Of The Republic,” a still-unmade “Lando” series, Patty Jenkins’ “Rogue Squadron” (which may have some life in it still) and an unproduced trilogy by the creators of “Game Of Thrones.”

Billy Dee Williams’s Lando Calrissian is iconic, to say the least. The actor brought a level of flair and charm to the smuggler, playing the role many times in the Star Wars franchise. While there is no way to replicate how iconic his performance was, Donald Glover managed to add his own essence to the character when he played a younger version of him in Solo: A Star Wars Story.
Billy Dee Williams as Lando Calrissian in Star Wars: Episode V—The Empire Strikes Back
While the 2018 film did not do that well with audiences, Calrissian’s character came out soaring and Glover managed to bag a solo project. Since then, however, there have been many speedbumps that have hampered its production. That was, until now.

Donald Glover has another TV hit on his hands with Prime Video‘s “Mr. & Mrs. Smith,” which means industry eyes will be on his next television venture: “Lando.” Glover and his brother Stephen took over writing duties from Justin Simien on the upcoming Disney+ series last summer, which basically guarantees them complete creative control. In a new THR interview, Glover confirmed that’s the case, and why honing a singular vision for the show informed his choice to take its reins creatively.

“Haunted Mansion” director Justin Simien has still not heard from Disney about Donald Glover and Stephen Glover replacing him as writer on their streaming “Star Wars” series-turned-movie, “Lando.”
In a recent interview, he told TheWrap that the news article he saw on social media announcing the decision “was and remains the only official word I ever heard about my involvement on the project.”
He added that he did get “an appraisal of the script I wrote,” but the studio has otherwise not been in touch.

Donald Glover was a deciding factor in where the “Community” movie would be filmed, according to series creator Dan Harmon.
Beloved NBC sitcom “Community” spurred the hashtag #SixSeasonsandaMovie, landing an upcoming Peacock film that has been years in the making. Despite the initial cast announcement not tagging original cast members Donald Glover and Yvette Nicole Brown, Harmon confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that Brown and Glover would reprise their respective roles.
“I don’t think it’s too much of a spoiler to say that the story would involve the gang getting back together,” Harmon said.
The film will mark a Greendale Community College reunion, with Joel McHale, Danny Pudi, Alison Brie, Gillian Jacobs, Ken Jeong, and Jim Rash returning.

Guillermo del Toro almost entered a galaxy far, far away by helming a “Star Wars” film.
Screenwriter David Goyer said during the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast that he wrote a “Star Wars” script that del Toro was going to direct back in 2019. However, Lucasfilm decided to shelve the project.
“I wrote an unproduced ‘Star Wars’ movie that Guillermo del Toro was going to direct. That was about four years ago,” Goyer said. “There was just a lot of behind stuff going on at Lucasfilm at the time but it’s a cool script. There’s a lot of cool artwork from it that was produced.”
Goyer added, “And then I have also wrote an unproduced, I have a script treatment, for an origins of the Jedi movie also for ‘Star Wars’ that I wrote for them that took place 25,000 years before the first ‘Star Wars’ film. I got to do the Vader Immortal VR thing,...

What have we here? Just more news about the long-gestating “Star Wars” project focused on the galaxy far, far away’s favorite rapscallion, Lando Calrissian. According to Stephen Glover – who was working on the Lando script with his brother, Lando actor Donald Glover – the idea is to make a feature film about the character, rather than a series for Disney+ as previously announced.
Multiple trade outlets confirmed the news, with the stipulation that any movement on the screenplay has to wait until the current writers’ and actors’ strikes have come to an end.
Donald Glover first played Lando in 2018’s “Solo: A Star Wars Story,” and while the film was poorly received, his portrayal of the character first made famous by Billy Dee Williams was hailed as a high point. Honestly, it must be awesome to be a high-level studio executive. You get to sit around all day long, rake in millions by delegating jobs to other people, and make all sorts of bank-breaking decisions at the drop of a hat -- like waffling back on forth endlessly over whether to make the next big slice of the IP pie into a movie or a streaming series. Well, the pendulum has apparently swung the other way, because we have a fresh, new update on Lucasfilm's "Lando" production.
Originally conceived as a spin-off movie, "Lando" would've ideally ridden on the coattails of 2018's "Solo: A Star Wars Story" prequel film and given Donald Glover an even greater chance to shine, especially since he was widely agreed to be one of the few highlights from that dud of a movie. Of course, once "Solo" bombed hard upon release, those plans subsequently...

The project is actually being developed as a “Lando” movie, Lucasfilm confirmed to Variety. After The Skywalker Saga ended in 2019 with “The Rise of Skywalker,” Lucasfilm shifted its attention to the small screen and the Disney+ streaming service.
There had already been two successful animated series: “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” and “Star Wars Rebels.” 2019 marked the debut of the first live-action “Star Wars” series, “The Mandalorian.”
It followed the adventures of Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal), a Mandalorian bounty hunter tasked with protecting a very precious piece of cargo — a Force-wielding foundling named Grogu (affectionately called Baby Yoda).
A slew of live-action shows followed, and their entries in the Star Wars Universe and timeline may be confusing. But fear not. TheWrap will guide you through them better than a Sith wayfinder.

Justin Simien has nothing but good thoughts about the people who replaced him as writer on Disney+’s upcoming “Star Wars” series focused on Lando Calrissian, Donald Glover and Stephen Glover.
“Donald is a national treasure. Glad he and Stephen get to carry the character forward their way,” Simien wrote in an Instagram story Thursday night. “Can’t wait to see. Rooting for everybody Black.”
Here’s how it looked:

Simien was originally tapped to develop the story for the show, but the “Dear White People” writer exited last year in order to direct on another Disney project, “The Haunted Mansion,” which hits theaters this week.

Brothers Donald Glover and Stephen Glover are teaming up to pen Disney+’s Lando series, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
The deal, first reported by Above the Line, was made prior to the Writers Strike, which began in May. Justin Simien, who was previously attached to develop Lando, exited the Star Wars project prior to the duo signing on.
Disney announced in December 2020 that the Lucasfilm show was in the works. Donald Glover, who will star in the series, previously played Lando Calrissian in 2018’s Solo: A Star Wars Story. While the film bombed at the box office, Glover’s performance was well received.
The smooth-talking smuggler first appeared in The Empire Strikes Back, with original Lando actor Billy Dee Williams returning for Return of the Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker.
During a recent interview with THR, Simien spoke about the Lando project, and said he was uncertain about its future.

Donald and Stephen Glover are set to co-write the upcoming Lando Calrissian series for Disney+, following “Dear White People” writer Justin Simien‘s reported exit from the “Star Wars” spin-off.
Simien reportedly left the Lucasfilm show last summer to focus on directing the “Haunted Mansion” remake set to premiere in theaters Friday. “Lando” was first announced by Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy during Disney’s Investor Day in December 2020, without providing details on whether it would center the character as portrayed by Billy Dee Williams in the original trilogy or by Glover in “Solo: A Star Wars Story.”
Kennedy later confirmed that the show would center on Glover’s Lando, with the artist’s busy schedule delaying production. “It’s not for lack of trying. It’s just that he’s a very busy guy,” she told Cinemablend in May 2022. “He’s got another series, and I think one other thing,...

With Justin Simien recently parting ways with the series, Deadline has confirmed that Donald Glover and his brother Stephen have come on to develop the Lando Calrissian series Lando for Lucasfilm and Disney+. Glover and his brother Stephen Glover will write the series with plans to write the series as if Donal will reprise the role he first appeared in Solo: A Star Wars Story.
Lucasfilm had no comment.
Justin Simien, who recently directed Haunted Mansion for Disney, parted ways with the project last year and sources confirm the Glovers came on to develop the project prior to the recent Writers Strike.
Originally played by Billy Dee Williams in The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, Donald first appeared as Calrissian in Ron Howard’s 2018’s Solo: A Star Wars Story, which also starred Alden Ehrenreich as a younger version of Han Solol as well as Emilia Clarke and Woody Harrelson.

For years now, Lucasfilms' "Lando" series has been one of the biggest "we'll believe it when we see some movement on it" Star Wars projects around. Well, today's breaking news definitely counts as movement: i09 and Gizmodo have confirmed an earlier report that Donald Glover isn't just set to star in the Disney+ series about Lando Calrissian, but will also co-write the series, too. His brother and fellow "Atlanta" writer-producer Stephen Glover is set to pen the show with him, while "Dear White People" filmmaker Justin Simien's involvement in the project seems at best up in the air, but he looks to be off the project.
Apparently, the change in screenwriters came before the current SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes, when Gizmodo reports that Simien chose to focus full-time on "The Haunted Mansion," which is set for a theatrical release tomorrow. This doesn't seem to be a clear consensus, though,...

Donald Glover and his brother Stephen Glover are attached to write the Disney+ Star Wars limited series “Lando,” based on the iconic Lando Calrissian character, IndieWire has confirmed.
“Haunted Mansion” director and “Dear White People” creator Justin Simien was previously attached to write “Lando” back when it was first revealed to be in the works in 2020, but Simien is no longer involved with the project.
Glover portrayed a young Lando in “Solo: A Star Wars Story” in 2018, taking over from Billy Dee Williams, who originated the role in “The Empire Strikes Back.” The “Atlanta” creator has been vocal about returning to the role, but it’s unclear at present if he’s attached to star.
“We’re talking about it. That’s as much as I can say without Kathleen Kennedy hunting me down,” Glover said to GQ back in April. “I would love to play Lando again. … It’s a fun time,...

Brothers Donald and Stephen Glover have signed on to write Lucasfilm’s “Lando” series for Disney+, Variety has confirmed.
News first broke of a Lando Calrissian limited series being in the works in December 2020. At the time, “Dear White People” creator Justin Simien was attached to the project. Though, it would seem he’s no longer attached as Variety has been told the Glover brothers will be writing the series alone. Simien most recently directed Disney’s “Haunted Mansion,” which is scheduled for a July 28 release. The deal was reached prior to the writers strike.
Originally played by Billy Dee Williams in “The Empire Strikes Back” and “Return of the Jedi,” Donald first stepped into the role in Ron Howard’s 2018 “Star Wars” prequel movie “Solo,” which also showed the younger version of Han Solo (Alden Ehrenreich).

In November of 2017, just prior to the release of "Star Wars: The Last Jedi," it was announced that director Rian Johnson, working with his creative collaborator Ram Bergman, would immediately begin work on three new "Star Wars" feature films, set entirely apart from the Skywalker-centric story already being explored. The actual story or content of this mysterious new trilogy was not revealed, although Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy expressed enthusiasm, saying that Johnson was "a creative force, and watching him craft 'The Last Jedi' from start to finish was one of the great joys of my career."

Star Wars Celebration 2023 kicked off in London today, with a slate of new projects already announced. While fans got pumped about the announcement of films that will bring back Rey, explore the earliest Jedis, and tie together several of the Disney+ series, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy spoke with IGN about back-burner projects that she says are far from dead.
When asked about shelved projects, Kennedy clarified that many of the Star Wars films that the press has reported as no longer in development aren't actually axed or forgotten. "Well, they haven't been shelved. Most things haven't been shelved," Kennedy said. "Development is a complicated, long-term process. [For] some people we're dealing with scheduling, because obviously really talented people are working." It's certainly true that Star Wars has a lot of talented, in-demand filmmakers attached to various projects, from "Logan" director James Mangold to "Thor: Ragnarok" filmmaker Taika Waititi. The Star Wars franchise boasts a whole lot of rogues, from Han Solo (Harrison Ford) to Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac), but none can hold a candle to Lando Calrissian (Billy Dee Williams) in the charm department. From the first moment we meet him in "Star Wars: Episode V -- The Empire Strikes Back," the man oozes charisma from every pore. Part of it is Williams' natural charisma (which was carried on beautifully with Donald Glover's portrayal in "Solo: A Star Wars Story"). Part of it is the delivery of lines like, "Everything you've heard about me is true." A very big part of it is that cape he always has on. Williams swirls that thing around and wears it like he was born in it.

John Oliver took aim at the “Law & Order” franchise during Sunday night’s edition of “Last Week Tonight”, and he didn’t pull any punches.
As Oliver explained, “L&o” and other television cop shows “significantly distort the big picture of policing,” and give viewers a “false narrative of law enforcement” by presenting scenarios in which “exceptionally competent cops [are] working within a largely fair framework that mostly convicts white people.”

That, Oliver pointed out, flies in the face of reality.
“It’s presenting a world where the cops can always figure out who did it, defence attorneys are irritating obstacles to be overcome, and even if a cop roughs up a suspect, it’s all in pursuit of a just outcome,” Oliver said, pointing to “L&o” as a particularly egregious example.

The Law & Order television franchise is “commercial” for a “defective product,” said John Oliver on Sunday’s Last Week Tonight, capping a lengthy rant about the Dick Wolf cop shows that Oliver argued present an unrealistic and misleading depiction of law enforcement.
“If a medical show was giving us inaccurate information, we would say it’s dangerous,” Oliver said at one point, suggesting that if Grey’s Anatomy espoused misleading information about vaccines, “We’d probably be having a conversation about, [and] that’s essentially what Law & Order is doing.”
The franchise, Oliver argues, regularly promotes a message that “cops can always figure out who did it,” defense attorneys are an annoyance and police brutality is acceptable for “a just outcome.”
