The 77th edition of the Cannes Film Festival will kick off with Quentin Dupieux’s “The Second Act,” a star-studded surreal French comedy headlined by Léa Seydoux, Vincent Lindon, Louis Garrel and Raphaël Quenard, Variety has learned.
The anticipated movie is produced by Hugo Selignac at Chi-Fou-Mi, a Mediawan company, and is represented in international markets by Kinology. The film will play out of competition on May 14 and will be released on the same day in French theaters.
Laced with absurdist humor, the meta movie follows actors starring in a doomed film production. Dupieux is one of France’s most popular and prolific filmmakers. He delivered two films in 2023: “Daaaaaalí,” which played out-of-competition at Venice, and “Yannick,” a French box office hit that sold around the world.

This might sound rude, but it's doubtful that the "Wrong Turn" films are anyone's ride-or-die franchise. In fact, when we did our own ranking of the 15 best horror movie franchises, the "Wrong Turn" property didn't even make the cut. And yet, despite the odds, seven "Wrong Turn" films (including a prequel and a reboot) have been released since 2003. That's a new "Wrong Turn" movie every three years on average! The series centers around a family of inbred cannibal mutants in Appalachia, leaning into every insulting cultural stereotype about mountain folk and turning it into a horror story. The "horrifying hillbilly" trope is nothing new, but the "Wrong Turn" series has become the grotesque poster child of the subgenre.
Against the better judgment of most, I have willingly watched all seven "Wrong Turn" films and ranked them here for your viewing pleasure. Let's throw out our maps, completely ignore our Gps,...

Yesterday, an image cinematographer Christian Sebaldt shared on Instagram indicated that Final Destination 6 (which is going by the title Final Destination: Bloodlines) is finally, after years of development and a thirteen year gap between sequels, heading into production. Now franchise producer Craig Perry has taken to social media to confirm that Final Destination: Bloodlines is indeed filming, the aim being to get this one into theatres in 2025 – in time to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the release of the original film. It will even be on IMAX screens!
Perry wrote, “After a long, hard slog through the pandemic and the strikes, Day One is finally in the can. 2025 will mark the 25th anniversary of the release of the first installment in the franchise. After working together on the 2021 version of Wrong Turn, director Mike P. Nelson and screenwriter Alan B. McElroy are re-teaming for the Brazil-set creature feature Titan – and Deadline reports that Kiana Madeira of the Fear Street trilogy and Jessica Rothe of the Happy Death Day movies are set to star in the film!
The story Titan is set against the backdrop of Brazil’s Curuçá River in the present day. When a team of young doctors embark on a local humanitarian mission through the Amazon rainforest, it soon becomes clear that not everyone – or everything – is happy to see them. Their arrival draws the attention of an ancient predator, the “Boiúna”. This ancient killer, dominant on land and water, clashes to reclaim the jungle. The ensuing fight for survival blurs the roles of hunter, prey, and hero.
The film is coming our way from the Resident Evil franchise makers at Constantin Film and Jb Pictures.

The writers of "Star Trek: The Next Generation" had a whole panoply of characters to work with, but they clearly liked Captain Picard (Patrick Stewart) and Lieutenant Commander Data (Brent Spiner) the best. Of the episodes that focus on single members of the ensemble, Picard and Data seemingly had the most, and were usually given stirringly dramatic stories and no small amount of screen time. Picard was an interesting character as he was stern and resolute, and audiences liked to see his unflappable integrity get tested. Data was an interesting character as he was an android aspiring to be more human, despite having no human emotions. Data looked at humanity objectively, and eager Trekkies likely constructed imaginary conversations in their heads as to how they would explain humanity to Data (should they ever meet him).
Spiner's challenge in playing Data was mustering up emotional moments from within the artificial brain of a machine person.

Bloody Disgusting has an exclusive look at the teaser trailer for horror thriller Last Straw, which will world premiere at Sitges before making its way to Beyond Fest next month.
Last Straw is an homage to the pressure cooker genre films of yesteryear and is said to be “a raw and relentless twist on the home-invasion thriller that subverts expectations at every turn.”
The story revolves around a young waitress working the late shift alone at a rural roadside diner. Her life takes a terrifying turn when she becomes the target of a group of masked assailants. As the night unfolds she must muster all her strength to survive.
“Last Straw is an outlet for revealing what horror awaits when the mask comes off and, at the same time, an attempt to understand what causes some people to turn towards violence,” says director Alan Scott Neal, making his feature directorial debut.

Tamron Hall was on a mission to prove people wrong and show her value with the success of her now award-winning talk show “Tamron Hall,” following her exit from the “Today” show.
“I can honestly say something that I’ve never said… I was determined to prove people wrong, and probably in an unhealthy way – in some ways,” the host told TheWrap during a recent interview. “Looking back at that, I really wanted to prove my value…I wanted to prove to young women, and women over a certain age, like myself, that we’re not disposable.”
At first glance, one might be confused by Hall’s seemingly unconfident thoughts, especially with her mountain of achievements. Prior to being daytime It Girl, she carried more than 30 years of experience as a hard news journalist, had a resume decorated with three Emmy nominations and was the first Black woman to host NBC’s “Today” show.

Quentin Dupieux is the unique, comically twisted mind behind the likes of Rubber, Wrong Cops, Mandibles and Incredible But True. He's back with his latest, superhero satire Smoking Causes Coughing, which played to acclaim at last year's Cannes and has been ping-ponging around the festival circuit since then. We have the new trailer for the film as an exclusive, and you can see it below.
Smoking Causes Coughing follows the misadventures of a team of five superheroes known as the Tobacco Force – Benzene (Gilles Lellouche), Nicotine (Anaïs Demoustier), Methanol (Vincent Lacoste), Mercury (Jean-Pascal Zadi), and Ammonia (Oulaya Amamra).
After a devastating battle against a diabolical giant turtle, the Tobacco Force is sent on a mandatory week-long retreat to strengthen their decaying group cohesion. Their sojourn goes wonderfully well until Lézardin, Emperor of Evil, decides to annihilate planet Earth. Oh, that old story… It's all very relevant to our superhero-saturated movie...

Could Daniel Radcliffe be working a little musical magic on “The Masked Singer” this week? Jenny McCarthy thinks so.
In perhaps a twist for longtime “Masked Singer” fans, it isn’t Ken Jeong with the crazy guess this week, but McCarthy. “I don’t think I’ve experienced a theater season in New York ever like this one,” noted Artistic Director Gabriel Stelian-Shanks. “There’s been a range, a breadth, an expansion of possibility that has been truly astonishing to witness. Theater makers have inspired not only with their creativity, but also with their drive and determination to serve audiences with vision and talent. These nominees reflect the promise and greatness inherent in the work of theater folk, and I can’t help but be deeply proud.

Jimmy Kimmel bid an official farewell to the Covid National Emergency on Tuesday night, admitting it was bittersweet because the pandemic taught him a lot. For example, it taught the late night host that the people who are “most resistant” to government mandates are the people who actually need it the most.
To kick off the monologue on his namesake ABC show, Kimmel noted that it was “the dawn of a new era” now that President Biden has officially declared the Covid national emergency to be over. “He did do it about a year after the rest of us did, but…” Kimmel joked.
That said, the host argued that there were some good times during the pandemic, and a whole lot of learning moments for everybody.

Few things blend more perfectly than an afternoon spent poolside, free-flowing mezcal, and the warmth of Blxst’s nostalgic, R&b-tinged production. On April 16, the Los Angeles native proved as much when he hit the Creator House stage to deliver a string of hits from his critically acclaimed quarantine care package, No Love Lost.
Once the mellow guitar strums of “Wrong or Right” enveloped the Arrive hotel pool deck, the audience inched closer and closer to the stage. For those who knew Blxst before the Meta-sponsored day party, it was...

Locksmith Animation (Ron’s Gone Wrong) has optioned Marissa Meyer’s New York Times bestselling novel series The Lunar Chronicles for film, the London-based CG animation producer announced today.
The series published by Feiwel & Friends is comprised of titles including Cinder (2012), Scarlet (2013), Cress (2014) and Winter (2015), which reimagine the stories of classic fairy tale heroines.
The books are set in a futuristic world, beset by a pandemic, where Earth and its former colony Luna exist in a perpetual state of unrest and tension. In the first book, Cinder, a teenage cyborg of the same name (modeled after Cinderella) deals with her wicked step-mother, finds love and discovers secrets about herself. As the series continues, she forges an alliance with spaceship pilot, Scarlet; imprisoned computer hacker, Cress; and the Lunar princess, Winter. Before the pandemic hit last year, Olivia Kaplan was balancing a few hustles — working part-time at a hip Los Angeles restaurant, teaching music lessons, and helping out at the local farmers market — on top of music. After long shifts waiting tables, she’d head straight to the studio to work on her debut album. She didn’t mind and, in fact, found that the arrangement boosted her creativity. “I’m exhausted, but I needed that structure,” says Kaplan, 28. “I don’t think I’m the kind of person that can...

The Wrong Turn movies have been scaring audiences since 2003 with stories about families of deformed cannibals who reside deep in the wilderness of West Virginia and take advantage of those who make the titular ‘wrong turn’ into their territory. Throughout the years, we received five straight-to-dvd sequels via Dead End, Left for Dead, Bloody Beginnings, Bloodlines and Last Resort. Most of them have been pretty terrible, though, and none have lived up to the original.
However, next year may change that as Wrong Turn, a reboot/reimagining from The Domestics director Mike P. Nelson, will arrive and so far, it looks pretty promising. The recent trailer teased a relevant horror pic about a divided America, with a group of metropolitan liberals being taken captive, tortured and killed by the rural cannibals. It appears to be playing on the big political divide in the US at the moment and seems like...

What do two idiots, one giant fly, and Adèle Exarchopoulos have in common? Absolutely nothing! Except for a desire to eat good food and enjoy themselves in the summer sun. It's super weird, super French, buddy comedy ridiculousness. But that's the magic of Quentin Dupieux - he makes entirely original and entirely entertaining films. And this one clocks in at only 77 minutes, which is both just long enough, and also not long enough. You'll see what I mean once you watch it, because just as it's getting real good, it's over. Then again, better to not ruin it when everything else is pretty much perfect. In 2018 we first heard word that the critically acclaimed and fan-favorite Avatar: The Last Airbender series was being adapted into live-action with Netflix. Konietzko and Dimartino were public about how Netflix was committed to honoring their visions for the show and all seemed right.

The Wrong Turn series, featuring mutant cannibals hunting unsuspecting travellers in the mountains of West Virginia using an assortment of improvised traps and weaponry, is a franchise that even some hardcore horror fans are surprised to learn is still going. Nevertheless, the seventh installment The Foundation might possibly be getting a release soon.
All movie releases are currently variable due to, well, everything, and director Mike P. Nelson was recently asked about whether we would see the film any time soon. Here’s what he had to say:
“I honestly have very little news, but I can say we just completely finished the movie this past week and it is wild! The next steps will be in the hands of our distributor.”

Atlanta Journal-Constitution editor Kevin Riley said newspaper staffers were “appalled” after seeing Clint Eastwood’s “Richard Jewell” and its depiction of journalism and their late reporter colleague, Kathy Scruggs.
“Our employees were appalled by the scene and the treatment of our journalism in the film,” Riley told TheWrap on Friday, adding that he was particularly shocked at the film’s depiction of Scruggs trading sex for a news tip, which has no basis in fact.
