Way before I started this website I was a huge fan of this online TV series called Pure Pwnage, one of the original series from back when about geeky video gamers who "pwn n00bs" all day. The show has amassed a global following and now years later they're about to premiere a feature-length film called Pure Pwnage: Teh Movie. A teaser trailer has debuted and if you love video games, geeks being uber-geeky, or anything to do with pwning n00bs then fire this up and get a look at what they've been working on. Jeremy (played by Jarett Cale) reunites with his friend FPS_Doug (Joel Gardiner) to become a professional gamer. This is a very niche show that not everyone will be into, but I've always admired the geeky passion these guys have. Here's the first teaser trailer for Geoff Lapaire's Pure Pwnage: Teh Movie,...

Indiegogo's flexible crowdfunding platform has allowed innovators to raise millions from among more than 15 million users, and a recent development has particular filmmakers seeing even larger dollar signs. Indiegogo has extended its "Forever Funding" feature to several high-profile film projects on the site, thus allowing them to continue raising money even though their goals have already been met. Indiegogo first announced Forever Funding in September, though as The Hollywood Reporter explains, the feature did not apply to films until recently. When THR reached out to Indiegogo for comment, the crowdfunding company referred to the project's introductory blog post. "By allowing campaigns to continue after they reach their goals," reads the post, "this turnkey pilot project reflects the increased use of Indiegogo by businesses, artists and activists who seek to attract and develop new audiences." In total, Indiegogo selected 15 films to participate. One of those films, Gosnell, is the second most-funded film project on the site,...

Series Name: Space Janitors Asking For: $30,000 (Canadian) On Kickstarter Amount Raised Thus Far (At Time Of Post): $13,281 (Canadian) Days Remaining In Campaign (At Time Of Post): 38 Description: Space Janitors is a sci-fi parody web series created by Davin Lengyel and Geoff Lapaire. It follows the unfortunately mundane lives of two janitors aboard a Death Star-esque space station, who keep the windows clean and the floors shiny, all while dreaming of moving on to bigger and better space adventures. Seasons one and two were distributed internationally via Geek and Sundry and scored a healthy amount of views. The Kickstarter campaign is attempting to raise the requisite funds needed to complete a budget for season 3. Creator Bio: Even if you've never seen Space Janitors, you may recognize Lapaire's name from his work on Pure Pwnage, a classic of the web series community's early days. Lengyel, a Pure Pwnage producer, also created Pro at Cooking,...

Felicia Day's Geek and Sundry channel will celebrate its one year anniversary on April 1st, and the YouTube Original Channel dedicated to nerd culture is celebrating with a new slate of programming. In addition to returning existing favorites, three new shows based around video games will be launched. The two returning shows are Space Janitors, the sci-fi comedy created by Geoff Lapaire of Pure Pwnage, and TableTop, where Wil Wheaton invites notable nerdy people onto his show for some board game action. Season two had better feature a round of Carcassonne, or else. To spice up the new season, Day and Wheaton are launching International Tabletop Day, a global event dedicated to analog gaming. Three debutant series will join the two returnees, with video games taking center stage. Felicia's Ark will see Day and her viewers choosing which video game animals to take aboard her ark, thus saving them from impending doom.

Jarett Cale and Geoff Lapaire, the duo behind the classic Pure Pwnage web series, recently acquired enough funds on Indiegogo to turn their baby into a feature film. Since then, the pair have hosted a production live stream (with plenty of gaming) as they chip away at their movie project. At the same time, they are taking steps to get the series some more attention. Lapaire has started posting old Pure Pwnage episodes, one at a time, on his KylePP YouTube channel. The show was previously available on its website and on DVD, but the new YouTube listing will make it easier for old fans to experience some web series nostalgia while new viewers are exposed to Pure Pwnage's n00b-pwning goodness. Judging by the current release rate, we can expect a new episode to get posted every day until January

For almost 7 years, Pure Pwnage trundled along as one of the best series dedicated to the gamer subculture. With its hyper-specific gaming references and sci-fi leanings, Pwnage (remember kids, it's pronounced OWNage) became popular enough to gain a TV run on a Canadian network. However, that deal ended up being the beginning of the end for the series. For whatever reason, it didn't do well on the small screen and ended for good last year. Luckily for its devoted fans, Pure Pwnage may very well rise from the dead, bigger and better than before. The series' creators, Jarett Cale and Geoff Lapaire, have launched an Indiegogo campaign, with the goal of raising enough money to turn their magnum opus into a feature film. As part of the promotional effort, the duo have appeared in a video in which they explain their vision for the film. My favorite part of said...

We're finally giving IndieGoGo a little bit of love after featuring a ton of Kickstart projects in a row, and this one is definitely worth checking out. What a difference a year makes. Last year at Tiff I attended the reception for the launch of the Hollywood Suite Broadcasting by Catherine Tait, Jeff Sackman, Jay Switzer, Michael McLaughlin and David Kines. Hollywood Suite is four Canadian wide new HD channels featuring commercial free HD movies 24/7, uncut and unedited. Both Warner Bros. and MGM launched last year. One year later they are announcing that Sony Movie Channel and Axn Movies are also moving into residence on the channels (replacing Hollywood Storm and Hollywood Festival.) 450 different movies are available every month on TV on demand, online and on mobile for one low monthly fee. The cost of $4.99 per month stands in stark contrast to HBO and Showtime costs of $18 per month.
Catherine is widely known on the international circuit. She was responsible for getting the New York Independent Feature Project up to the level that it has maintained throughout the tenure of Michelle Byrd and currently by Joane Vicente, who is taking it upwards once again to new heights.
Catherine's career in the film and television business spans two decades and includes leadership in the American independent film industry as well as in film and television financing and public company management. She is President of Duopoly, an independent production company that also provides business strategy services to the film and television industry. At Duopoly, she has executive produced a number of television programs including Pure Pwnage (a comedy based on Internet phenomenon www.purepwnage.com for Showcase), Chilly Beach (65 episodes of comedy animation for CBC), Yam Roll (39 episodes for CBC and Cartoon Network), as well as Lucky, a Sundance documentary which sold to HBO. Prior to founding Duopoly, Catherine was President and Chief Operating Officer of Salter Street Films, a publicly-traded television production & distribution company which produced hit programming such as This Hour Has 22 Minutes and Michael Moore's Bowling For Columbine. Catherine serves on the Boards of March Entertainment and Paperny Films; she is a past Director of eOne Entertainment's Canadian Board, of Aliant, of Chum Ltd, and was Chair of the Independent Feature Project in New York.
Catherine is also the founder of iThenic, an online and mobile video destination site, launched in 2006, that aggregates, produces and distributes web series and short-form video content. The company is headquartered in Toronto with offices in New York City and backed by three engaged and prominent shareholders: eOne Entertainment, Canada's largest entertainment company, the founders of iThentic LLC (led by Catherine Tait), and Smiley Guy Studios, an award winning animation and new media studio. Smiley Guy Studios is the operating partner with Jonas Diamond as CEO and Catherine Tait as Chair of the company.
iThentic strives to unite communities that include the creators, curators and viewers. The management team has a depth of experience in global production, distribution and marketing and is connected to a powerful international network of writers, directors, producers, animators and artists. This ensures that iThentic showcases the very best new work. iThentic's creative network is rooted in the independent film and television industry and has generated some of the most groundbreaking entertainment of the last two decades.
This year, iThentic launched its highly successful interactive web-series Guidestones on Hulu. Guidestones won a 2012 Rockie Award for Best Web Fiction Series and is now in production on season two. In addition, Catherine represented the Canadian comedy hit Roller Town (Slamdance 2012) written by and starring Picnicface's Mark Little, Scott Vrooman and Andy Bush and directed by Andy Bush. Roller Town has been sold to VOD leader Gravitas Ventures and is available now.

Today we’re revisiting a series that I kinda gushed over last year. Since reviewing the pilot, Pioneer One has since been able to crowdfund five more episodes for six in total, they won the drama category for 2010′s Nytvf (and should’ve won pretty much everything else. Illuminati Brothers? Greg And Donny? Really?), and their first [...] Related News:That’s A Rapp: ‘Pioneer One’ Earns Its 420,000 Downloads ‘Central Division’ Brings Back the Punchy Dark Cop Show Hey Noob, ‘Pure Pwnage’ Is The Best Show Evar...

Last week, Mark Cuban posted a web series link on his Google+ page with no kind of info beyond the following: “And here is eps 2 of The Vault.” That begs the questions, how did Cuban become involved with this original web series and what exactly is The Vault? I'll answer the second question first. The Vault is a online original program about a fictional TV game show. Not much of the story has been revealed (there’s only two full episodes live and online, along with a handful of teasers on Youtube and the show’s website), but perhaps the level of mystery is what makes this show so appealing to Cuban and viewers. In the pilot, we follow contestant Henry as he conference calls with the other nine players in the Vault to help them solve puzzles. However, Henry and the players quickly discover the Vault is a bigger challenge than anyone expected.

Goodnight Burbank, the critically acclaimed original web series all about awkward workplace chemistry of the cast and crew at a Southern California local area news network, just joined the likes of Childrens’ Hospital, Sanctuary, and In the Motherhood in the pantheon of web shows picked up by TV. Hopefully it will fare more like the former on its new medium than the latter. Mark Cuban’s HDNet acquired the rights to Goodnight Burbank creator and star Hayden Black’s fourth and most recent 30-minute iteration of the five-year-old online original. Lacey Rose at The Hollywood Reporter broke the news and notes the deal came to be after Cuban reached out to Black via Facebook message. The cable television channel will broadcast Goodnight Burbank's season one in full beginning October 12. Until then, you can still catch the episodes on Hulu. This isn’t Cuban’s nor HDNet’s first foray...

Hayden Black first channeled a local area news anchor with career ambitions far beyond reporting on your local area Chuck E. Cheese’s way back in 2006. Gordon Winston-Smythe, Black’s Manchester-born news man trying to make it in a city that’s not quite Los Angeles, is one of just two major components of the web series Goodnight Burbank that haven’t changed in the past five years. The other is the sereis’ premise. The show is still about all the awkward workplace hijinks that take place in, around, and about the newsroom before, during, and after daily news broadcasts. And the focus is still on the back and forth banter between the anchors, who compete for attention from the camera and affections from their crew. But the other major components of the series (namely the cast, the length of the episodes, and the distribution platform) have changed. Today, Goodnight Burbank...

Web series and online video news worth clicking today: Syfy’s popular steampunk web series Riese may be heading into Space, or at least close to it, as it has scored a deal with Canadian pay cabler Space, set to make it’s TV broadcast premiere April 9 at 9Pm. But it’s not just jumping ship from the web, as new mini-episodes of the 10-part series are set to stream on Spacecast.com every Monday and Friday through to Friday, April 8. [CTV Press Release] Kevin Rose has a whole handful of web series running these days, even if it’s Diggnation that gets all the attention. His semi-regular polished interview series Foundation just released its second episode—for subscribers only this week—but there’s another, less publicized series that’s essentially the same thing dubbed The Random Show. Rose interviews his cadre of interesting buddies like bestselling author and lifehacker Tim Ferris...
