Chilly Beach is a Canadian island town where the tourists are few and the beer is plentiful. Hockey is a way of life and the bears eat people, including Santa every year.

Storyline

The town of Chilly Beach is a ridiculously unsuccessful Canadian resort community, somehow built on the shores of a drifting ice floe in the far, far north. Its two most adventurous residents are Dale and Frank, two hockey-playing, beer-drinking best friends who have spent their whole lives here largely oblivious to the outside world. Along with the rest of the quirky townsfolk, they confront the inhospitable climate, outrageous culture clashes with visiting foreigners, exaggerated Canadian customs both old and new, and whatever other surreal and perilous situations their unique home throws their way. Quotes

Dale McDonald: You know what you need? A girlfriend.
Constable Al: Really? Oh my goodness gracious. Could romance be the one missing piece of my life for which I have been searching these twenty long minutes?
Dale McDonald: Or a toboggan!
Constable Al: But I would not even know where to be getting one.
Dale McDonald: At the hardware store!
Frank Shackleford: He's talking about a girlfriend!
Dale McDonald: So am I! I almost got a date in the aisle where the toilet parts are.

An enjoyable Canadian cartoon for kids and adults
11 October 2003 | by (Canada) – See all my reviews

Chilly Beach has the look of a Canadian South Park, without all the gross-out humour. It's enjoyable fun for kids and adults, but really small children may not get the plot. It deals with two buddies, Frank and Dale, who live on the Canadian island of Chilly Beach. Their friends include an Indo-Canadian police constable (who manages a convincing Indian accent without being offensive), a little girl who bears a striking resemblance to Velma from Scooby Doo and a polar bear who lives on the island and spends all his time trying to eat them!

It's a worthy animated entry along with The Raccoons (one of my fave cartoons in the 1980s).

With all the crappy American and Japanese cartoons we get nowadays, Chilly Beach is a breath of fresh air.
