Writer-director Kirk DeMicco says The Croods presents an age known as the Croodaceous Period which, “fell between the Jurassic Age and the ‘Katzenzoic Era’– at least according to DreamWorks archaeologists.” How’s that for a Monday morning science lesson?
The Croods is a 3D comedy adventure that follows the world’s first modern family through the journey of a lifetime. When the cave that has always been their home is destroyed – with the rest of their world not far behind it – The Croods are forced to set off on the first family road (or path) trip. Rocked by generational clashes and seismic shifts, The Croods discover an incredible new world filled with fantastic creatures, and a future beyond any they imagined.

Kathleen Turner as Molly Ivins
Those of you in the Los Angeles area have two enticing theater options coming up. The first -- an absolute must see -- is the Broadway production of Stephen Sondheim's Follies. It's coming to La soon from Broadway intact but for Bernadette Peters who will be replaced by another major but less famous talent, Victoria Clark (The Light in the Piazza). The other theater option is currently playing. I can't vouch for since I haven't seen it, but it's the one and only Kathleen Turner playing Molly Ivins in the one woman show Red Hot Patriot.
I have however seen Kathleen Turner live on stage twice (Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf and High) and she doesn't lose even one ounce of her charisma or gift on the stage the way many screen stars do when they attempt the transfer. Earlier this week she had...

The dysfunctional family has long been a favorite subject for filmmakers and moviegoers alike. After all, who can't relate to bickering siblings, awkward fathers and unsolicited criticism from Mom?
The question is, therefore, how do you make your family dramedy stand out from the pack?
Take a few notes from Anne Renton's "The Perfect Family," a promising debut feature that treats delicate family dynamics with a dash of dark humor.
First, gather up an all-star cast — in this case, Kathleen Turner, Emily Deschanel, Jason Ritter and Richard Chamberlain comprise the family in question.
Next, create a plot rife with conflict: in "Perfect Family," Turner stars as a meddling matriarch and devout Catholic whose nomination for a church award makes her more determined to rein in her husband and two grown children into her image of what the perfect family should look like.
Finally, throw some snappy dialogue into the mix,...

2:15 p.m. David's a little miffed that he hasn't been asked to join "The Avengers," but wants you to talk to Joss about any future "Angel" projects. Oh, and wait, is that Emily?
2:17 p.m. Confirming what we all expected, she's here.

Of all the panels held on Friday, I was the most psyched about Bones (and True Blood, but still Bones). Creator Hart Hanson and star David Boreanaz were on hand to talk about the upcoming sixth season of the Fox show. They revealed a few spoilers during the panel, so we've clearly marked those in the post below.
The moderator from TV Guide started the panel by revealing *Spoiler Alert* that one of the cast members would die. Eek! Hart refused to provide any further details about it, but said it would be "exciting". *Spoiler Done*
Firstly, David Boreanaz? Hot. He regaled the audience with his first appearance at Comic Con in 1997 for Buffy: The Vampire Slayer. When asked about the recent vampire craze, he said it would be great to see an Angel movie, which the audience totally agreed with. Hart interjected that David's vampire (Angel) is completely...

Emily Deschanel has figured out what she’s going to do while her hit television show, “Bones,” is on hiatus for the summer. The actress, like so many of her small-screen peers, will attempt to transition to the big screen for an independent film project “The Perfect Family,” directed by Anne Renton.
Renton previously directed the comedic short “Love Is Love” with Jenni Baird (“The 4400″) and Jane Lynch (“Glee”). Deschanel, meanwhile, has enjoyed roles in “The Alamo” and “Spider-Man 2″ but has left the silver screen exploits to her younger sister, Zooey.
In the film, Deschanel will play a successful gay lawyer who could potentially embarrass her uptight, Catholic mother as she competes for an award to find the perfect family. According to Variety, Kathleen Turner has been cast as Deschanel’s mom, while Jason Ritter will play Deschanel’s deadbeat brother.

It has been less than six months since I reviewed the Season 1 DVD release of Flashpoint here on CinemaSpy.com. Nevertheless, Phase 4 Films is already releasing episodes from Season 2 on the Canadian home entertainment market. If you purchased the first season set and are expecting more of the same, though, you might not be totally satisfied. Flashpoint Season 2 Volume 1, which comes out north of the border today, includes more of the intelligent script writing and slick action that characterize this Canadian procedural. Unlike the 13-episode Season 1 DVD set, however, this new release includes only nine episodes from Season 2. What's more, it doesn't even have the smattering of extra features that its predecessor included. And there's no Blu-ray version to boot.
Want to know more: Flashpoint revolves around the assignments of the fictional Police Strategic Response Unit (Sru). Each hour-long episode is centered on the latest assignment of this crack police team.

"Schmucks" was no schmuck and took the money.
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and the California Film Commission on Monday announced the first 25 film and TV productions to qualify for recently passed state tax credits. A handful of high-profile projects were included, including DreamWorks' Jay Roach-helmed comedy "Dinner for Schmucks" and Sony's Facebook saga "The Social Network."
"I fought hard for economic-stimulus measures, including the film and television production incentive, because we must do everything in our power to stimulate the economy and put Californians back to work," Schwarzenegger said. "This is about the makeup artists, the caterers and the countless other small businesses that rely on film and television production to succeed and create jobs for Californians."
The governor said the tax-based production incentives are an attempt to stop a runaway-production trend that has seen more than three dozen other states lure film and TV projects from California. The new...
