Growing up in Texas in the 2000s, new-generation rap-rock star Teezo Touchdown was largely unfamiliar with Talking Heads. But as he was making his own records and plotting a stage show, some of his colleagues thought he’d be inspired by the band and called up a clip from its 1984 concert movie, Stop Making Sense. “The opening shot of David Byrne coming out with a boombox and doing ‘Psycho Killer’ — I had a true discovery moment,” Teezo recalls. “With what he was doing, and the production and the visuals, they had the total package.

After debuting at the 2023 Tribeca Film Festival to great acclaim, Katherine Propper’s feature debut, the road movie Lost Soulz, is making its way to theaters. The film follows a young rapper who joins a band of musicians traveling throughout Texas on a journey of self-discovery. It’s a moving film with an excellent soundtrack, and we at FandomWire got to speak with Propper about it. Check out the interview here!

Katherine Propper: I agree that they are very talented and compelling. I met the lead actor who plays Sol, Suave Sidel, actually a month into moving to Austin, Texas, for my Mfa film program at Ut. I met Suave Sidel from...

The idea of artists needing a “career reboot” often has as much to do with the petulant impatience of content-saturated fans than the actual situation of the artist in question. But in the case of Sia, the urgency of a course correction is hard to deny. Sia broke out from the ranks of top-level songwriters-for-hire in 2014 with the self-emptying party-kamikaze ginormity of “Chandelier.” Her 2017 album This is Acting was a concept record of sorts that repurposed songs she’d originally written with singers like Adele and Rihanna in mind, of...

Anyone who has tried to secure tickets to a concert in recent years knows that the system is broken. Luckily, many top acts know it is broken, too, and want something done about it.
Over 250 artists, including Billie Eilish, Dave Matthews, Lorde, Sia, Train, Graham Nash, Green Day, Cyndi Lauper, Fall Out Boy, Chappell Roan, Becky G, Béla Fleck, Jason Mraz, Yes, Mgmt, Blue Öyster Cult and many others have lent their names to bills currently put before congress, the Fans First Act and The Ticket Act, which basically pokes holes in the current ticketing system that frequently drives up prices and creates an unfair secondary market. The bills by members of both parties, like Republican Texas senator John Cornyn and Democratic Minnesota senator Amy Klobuchar.

More than 250 recording artists have signed a letter to the Senate Committee on Commerce in support of a bill advocating for ticket sale transparency and consumer protections against bots.
Billie Eilish, Dave Matthews, Cyndi Lauper, Lorde, Sia, Train, Fall Out Boy, Green Day, Graham Nash, Becky G, and Chappell Roan are among the prominent signees urging Congress to pass the Fans First Act (S. 3457). The bill, introduced by Senators Cornyn, Klobuchar, Blackburn, Welch, Wicker, and Lujan, and the bipartisan Ticket Act (H.R. 3950), sponsored by Reps. Bilirakis, Schakowsky, and Armstrong, which passed out of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, address the live event ticketing system. The letter claims current practices leave fans and artists alike exposed to the predatory practices of bad actors within the secondary ticketing market.

Did Zendaya accept her role in Challengers simply so she could go all out tennis-core in fun, preppy looks? Maybe! Most recently, Zendaya appeared in her most on-the-nose tennis look yet at a photocall in Rome, Italy.

The 27-year-old’s look channeled tennis greats like Serena Williams as she donned a custom Loewe dress. At the last Grammy Awards, Taylor Swift made history by taking home a fourth Album of the Year trophy. In doing so, she became the recording artist with the most wins in the category ever, breaking her tie with Frank Sinatra, Stevie Wonder, and Paul Simon. Such an impressive feat is unlikely to be repeated anytime soon, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t other records that could be broken in the general field in the foreseeable future.

In January, A24 Music shared Paramore’s cover of “Burning Down the House” as the lead single from their forthcoming Talking Heads tribute album. Now, another teaser single from the compilation has arrived: Lorde’s cover of “Take Me to the River.”
Originally written by Al Green, “Take Me to the River” was a bit of an unlikely Talking Heads cut, since David Byrne was apprehensive about recording a cover. Nonetheless, the band’s 1978 version made it onto their album More Songs About Buildings and Food, and has since become a beloved slice of their inventive sound.
Lorde has accompanied her cover with a lengthy note in which she reminisces about her first time hearing Talking Heads and the impact it had on her creatively. You can read it in full below.

I remember listening to it as I first started writing songs and just being blown away by her lyrics that are just about, you know, being a teenager, living in the suburbs.”
Olivia appreciated how Lorde‘s songs “made being young and doing these seemingly unimportant things feel so sacred and beautiful.”

Olivia Rodrigo will never forget the first time she heard Lorde’s breakout single, “Royals,” because it changed her life.
“I remember hearing that song on the radio at the time… It was one of those ‘pinch me’ moments where you always remember, a snapshot memory, like, ‘Oh my God, what is this?!’ Changes the trajectory of your life,” said Rodrigo during The Hollywood Reporter’s recent Songwriter Roundtable discussion.
Talking to fellow songwriters like Billie Eilish, Dua Lipa, and Jon Batiste, Rodrigo shared her experience hearing Lorde for the first time and reflected on Pure Heroine’s impact. “I remember listening to it as I first started writing songs and just being blown away by her lyrics that are just about being a teenager living in the suburbs,” Rodrigo said. “I just remember never hearing my life be put into a song like that where it just made being...

Dua Lipa joined Seth Meyers for the latest installment of the “Day Drinking” segment from his Late Night show.
The two “enjoyed” cocktails and played drinking games inspired by “Houdini.” Later, they played a game called “Idgaf” in which they answered an embarrassing question or took a shot, leading Meyers to name John Oliver as his least favorite late night host and confirm he has a favorite child. Meanwhile, Dua revealed her favorite Albanian swear sword and lamented about how fashion designers next think about the “drunk girls” when creating outfits.
The segment arrives as Dua Lipa is on the tails of her latest release, “Houdini,” a colorful pop track produced by Danny L Harle and Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker. The track was named Consequence’s Song of the Week when it debuted, and arrives ahead of a full, psychedelia-inspired album due sometime in 2024, which will feature more contributions from Parker.

Through music, the entertainment industry exerts a great influence on popular culture, and pop stars like Billie Eilish and Lorde have changed, or at least refined, the dominant culture—not only with their styles of music but also with their public persona. Choosing to do things differently, the American singer-songwriter and her New Zealand counterpart have affected pop music uniquely, fostering multiculturalism while introducing elements that would inspire future generations of artists to stay true to their talents and convictions. Their efforts have earned them some of the most coveted awards in the industry, including the Grammys. Of the two, Lorde...

Dua Lipa and Seth Meyers are going on an afternoon drinking session.
The Don’t Start Now star will feature in the latest iteration of Day Drinking, a segment for Meyers’ Late Night.
Previous day drinkers include Rihanna, Lizzo, Kelly Clarkson, Jonas Brothers and Lorde.
Meyers has recently joked that he has to be careful with the amount of times that they do the segment as the drinking is real and he’s got as bottle-hardened as he used to be.
The episode will air this evening on Deecmber 11.
It comes after Dua Lipa recently appeared in the Barbie movie and her single Dance The Night from the soundtrack was nominated for two Grammys.
Late Night with Seth Meyers is produced by Universal Television and Broadway Video, exec produced by Lorne Michaels and produced by Mike Shoemaker.

Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt couldn’t have guessed their first time scoring a film together would be the biggest movie of the year.
For the duo, working with A-list artists — such as Amy Winehouse, Lady Gaga, Dua Lipa, Adele, Lorde and Bruno Mars — is nothing new. And Ronson had even previously scored a film before: 2015’s Mortdecai. But taking on Greta Gerwig’s Barbie? That was a different feat. As Wyatt explains, they’re the type of people to “dive in the pool and learn how to swim later” — and they’re definitely taking laps now.
Not only has the Margot Robbie-led film broken box office records, but Barbie: The Album was a chart-topping and Grammy-nominated hit, which Ronson finds “amazing and totally baffling.” With a lineup of songs including Dua Lipa’s “Dance the Night,” Billie Eilish’s “What Was I Made For?”, Ryan Gosling’s “I...

The year’s scariest sleeper hit, Talk to Me became A24’s second highest grossing horror film with $48 million at the domestic box office on a $4.5 million budget. The Australian movie marks the feature debut of co-directors Danny and Michael Philippou, who rose to prominence with their YouTube channel, RackaRacka.
The film’s home video release includes an audio commentary with the excitable Australian twins. They begin by stating that they won’t discuss the movie’s themes, as they want to leave it open to interpretation (although they let a few hints slip), but they have plenty of other insight to share.

Since it debuted on Netflix in early October, the Benicio Del Toro-starring "Reptile" has consistently been one of the top 10 most-watched titles on the streaming platform. The film is the feature debut of director Grant Singer, who cut his teeth directing music videos for artists like The Weeknd, Sky Ferreira, Lorde, Taylor Swift, Sam Smith, Ariana Grande, Ariel Pink, and Skrillex. "I think the movie will be exciting to people who like to watch something where you don't know where it's leading you, where a film is going to have twists and turns and deceive you," Singer said in the film's press release. "And people who like things that are intense and visceral and suspenseful, I think they'll find something exciting in this." Here's the film's official synopsis:

[This story contains spoilers for Reptile.]
In the two weeks since its release, Grant Singer’s Reptile has remained atop Netflix’s own film charts with 19.9 million views and counting. The Benicio Del Toro-led crime thriller is Singer’s feature directorial debut after nearly a decade of making inventive music videos for the likes of The Weeknd, Lorde and Ariana Grande. The film centers around Del Toro’s Detective Tom Nichols, as he investigates the murder of a real estate agent (Matilda Lutz) and uncovers a tangled web of corruption within his new community in Maine.
At a time when crime dramas and murder mysteries are still immensely popular, especially on Netflix, Singer, along with his co-writers Benjamin Brewer and Del Toro himself, knew that they had to work overtime to keep viewers on their toes.
“Audiences now are very advanced in their understanding of these stories because there have been so many great crime...
