In July, the folk-leaning sextet Delta Rae announced their departure from Big Machine Label Group, an event that happened to coincide with the label’s sale to Scooter Braun and Taylor Swift’s subsequent criticism of the deal. As a side effect, Delta Rae’s Kickstarter was quickly funded beyond their wildest dreams by longtime fans and new supporters alike — resources they used to record their upcoming independent album, The Light.

Delta Rae had some big news they were keeping under wraps until the timing was right. Signed to Big Machine since 2015, they had been released from their record deal after months of negotiating, an announcement they planned to make at the start of July.
“We had a whole timeline of a year planned out in our minds,” says Brittany Hölljes, one of Delta Rae’s four lead singers along with her brothers Ian and Eric and childhood friend Elizabeth Hopkins. “We were holding on to the information until July 1st.

The new single off Kentucky country vocalist Dillon Carmichael’s just released debut album, a rip-roaring Zz Top cover by Whitey Morgan and Leyla McCalla’s brassy protest song are among the must-hear country and Americana tracks this week.
Fairground Saints, “Somewhere Down the Line”
Set to a kick-drummed pulse, “Somewhere Down the Line” marries the coed Californian harmonies of Fleetwood Mac with the polished punch of modern country-pop. “I’ve got a full tank of gas and some money,” goes the chorus, stacked high with layered vocals, banjo and pedal steel.

Kenny Chesney, Thomas Rhett and Jason Aldean will headline the three-day 2019 Tortuga Music Festival. The annual beachside event, which launched in 2013, is set for April 12 through 13th in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Officially titled Rock the Ocean’s Tortuga Music Festival, the concert doubles as a conservation effort for the world’s oceans and marine life and hosts a special educational and interactive “conservation village.”
The draw, though, is the traditionally diverse lineup, one that strays far from any country boundaries. This year, that includes Rock and Roll Hall of Fame...

Congrats are in order for Ian Hölljes!
The singer, who is part of the American folk rock band Delta Rae, welcomed his first child with wife Rebecca last Friday. While chatting with Et, Ian couldn't help himself from gushing over their little bundle of joy.
"We are so happy to announce the birth of our first son and the first 'Delta Bae.' Leo Richman Hölljes was born on Oct. 6, 2017, at 4:01 a.m. and weighed in at 7lbs 10oz," he revealed. The longlist for the Best Song category in the Oscars has been announced – so what should make the cut?
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced the longlist of songs for its Best Original Song Oscar in 2014, ahead of the nominations for the shortlist on January 14.
The list features 75 songs written for movies over the last year, with artists including Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, U2, Coldplay, Kings Of Leon, Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and M83 all making the grade. Pharrell is included for his hit Happy, currently in the top 5 of the UK charts, which appears in Despicable Me 2, and other animated films make up a large proportion of those selected: Epic, Turbo, The Croods, Planes, Escape From Planet Earth and Monsters University all also get a mention.

Two years after the last season of NBC's "The Sing-Off" aired -- and following the success of the movie "Pitch Perfect" and Internet phenomenon Pentatonix, who won Season 3 -- a cappella singing is en vogue again. Zap2it spoke with each of the groups competing in Season 4 of the reality competition. Up next: Vocal Rush, a group of insanely talented high school students.
You'll probably feel extremely unaccomplished when you find out that the members of Vocal Rush, one of the highlights of the premiere of "The Sing-Off" Season 4, are all high school students.
"The group started in March of 2011 as an after school program that our director started, and after doing it for so long and constantly singing and performing, it became part of the curriculum" at Oakland School for the Arts, explains group member Sarah Vela.

I have to put all of my biases on the table, here: I really love The Sing-Off. I am a fan. I’ve been there since the beginning and, to me, it’s like the runt of the singing show litter that I just want to protect and make sure it’s happy. But, oh, like its very own judges, I expect the best out of it too. Because I know how great it can be.
The Sing-Off exists in this bubble of a world where it’s not important to be cool. In fact, it’s better not to be.

A cappella competition show The Sing-Off premiered its third season on Monday night, returning Ben Folds and Boys II Men’s Shawn Stockman at the judges table with Jewel stepping in for Sara Bareilles.
Sing-Off Group A Performances Recap
Vocal Rush, comprised of the youngest contestants of the night, kicked off the fourth season of The Sing Off with Delta Rae’s "Bottom of the River." The judges were in agreement that the troupe showed a maturity beyond their years, and their stepping proved they had the moves to go far.
Country group Home Free sang Florida Georgia Line & Nelly’s “Cruise.” It was a good but not great performance. The judges and host Nick Lachey, however, were happy to hear a rare number by a country a cappella group.
Next up were the Princeton Footnotes, who have both the fashion sense and energy of The Warblers on show choir show Glee.

Supercringe! Nigel Lythgoe’s general buffoonery can make for some pretty awkward critiques on Sytycd, but tonight he outdid himself while raving about Dorian “BluPrint” Hector’s prowess in an Afro Jazz routine. “People say, ‘This is your ethnicity, your heritage.’ But it isn’t! You didn’t grow up in a jungle!” the old white man exclaimed to the young black dancer. Say what?! At least BluPrint (pictured, center) put on a brave grin following the comment. As you can see, host Cat Deeley took a bit longer for her “Wtf, man?” face to catch up to the contestant’s.

Chicago – Not only have I been a longtime fan of great children’s films like those produced by Disney and Studio Ghibli over the years but I’m now a parent and absolutely adore the feeling of passing along my favorite films like “Spirited Away,” “Dumbo,” “The Little Mermaid,” and “Toy Story” along to my little ones. My children will never see “Escape From Planet Earth.” As someone who not only sees nearly every animated film in his profession but has a new appreciation for them given my being a parent, I feel qualified to say this is one of the worst children’s films of the last decade. It’s aggressively annoying with awful character design and a screenplay that is clearly trying to teach children a lesson about boredom.
