“I don’t have any performing experience, really,” said “American Idol” semifinalist Casey Bishop at her audition in Ojai. “Most of the people that know that I love to sing are my friends. That’s pretty much it.” The 16-year old high school student (who was 15 when she auditioned) from Estero, Florida earned her spot on the ABC reality TV competition by singing “Live Wire” and “My Funny Valentine” for judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan. On Sunday, May 16 Bishop will compete against Chayce Beckham, Grace Kinstler and Willie Spence for a spot in the Season 19 finale.
Each artist will sing three songs on this upcoming episode including a brand new single produced just for them. Bishop’s original track is “Love Me, Leave Me” produced by the teenager herself along with Grammy winner Ian Fitchuk. The youngster will also sing the Billie Eilish hit “wish you were...

Season 17 of “American Idol” ended on May 19. Will the new winner enjoy more success than the 2018 champion, Maddie Poppe? After all, she didn’t even get a chance to perform on this year’s finale despite releasing her first album, “Whirlwind,” just two days prior. What a contrast to the early days of the show, when the previous season’s winner was always showcased on the episode that unveiled the new winner of the franchise.

What’s a reality show without some controversy? Sunday’s Top 20 episode of “American Idol,” during which 10 contestants were paired with celebrity artists, offered a doozy. According the social media jury, a vocal flub made by singer Elle King, the daughter of comic actor Rob Schneider whose own big hit is “Ex’s and Oh’s,” might have contributed to ex-ing out Atlanta semi-finalist Shawn Robinson‘s chances to continue on the show.
Robinson admitted he did have some reservations about their duet selection, a golden oldie that was originally a mid-tempo 1969 signature tune for Creedence Clearwater Revival that was famously turned into a raucus 1971 R&B hit by Ike and Tina Turner. He wanted to do the slower version and got his way, but it barely mattered when King seemed to accidentally sing the first verse twice on-air and might have cause a rattled Shawn, 22, to come in too soon.

As the old saying goes, if at first you don’t succeed, try, try again. Country star Laine Hardy, who was eliminated in the early rounds of “American Idol” last year, has returned in Season 17 for a second shot at the trophy. Should Laine end up earning the confetti shower, he’d be the third “American Idol” winner to claim victory after being eliminated in a prior season. The other two were Season 12 champ Candice Glover and Season 13 winner Caleb Johnson. Watch Laine’s 2019 audition video above of The Band‘s “The Weight.”

Our American Idol “journey” has come to an end, but let us not weep for what’s been cancelled, let us instead go to iTunes and download the Season 15 winner’s new single. Hey, from a songwriting vantage point, it may not be “Home,” but it definitely ranks above “No Boundaries” and “Inside Your Heaven” — and we bought those, too. And if this show can produce one more bona fide radio/touring superstar, maybe the inevitable reboot will happen sooner than expected, no?

Look, we all know that The Judges' Save is a crapshoot. Yes, it got us more quirky musicality from Casey Abrams and it allowed Jessica Sanchez to make it to the Finals, but how much gratitude should we show an innovation that also prolonged the "Idol" lives of Matt Giraud and Michael Lynche? I guess we should feel lucky that Sam Woolf has survived to participate in a theme that I'm sure is near-and-dear to his heart: '80s Night. Sam isn't the only "Idol" Finalist with a sketchy connection to the '80s. Actually, the total number of remaining contestants who drew breath in the '80s is a resounding "zero." So... This is gonna be fun! 8:00 p.m. Et. We begin with a reminder of last week's "drama," which strongly suggests that if Sam had gone home, this would be '70s Week. This week featured David Cook as a mentor.

Poor Sam Woolf. He received the lowest number of votes Thursday night and wound up being saved by the "American Idol" judges in a dramatic confetti shower that's usually reserved for the season's ultimate winner. But while Sam is busy celebrating his second chance victory, it's time for a reality check: Ever since the Judges' Save was introduced in Season Eight, no one that's been saved has gone on to win the show. -Break- Prior to Sam, a total of four singers were saved from the execution chamber. In Season 8, Matt Giraud was saved in Top 7 Week and was then eliminated for good two weeks later. In Season 9, Michael Lynche was saved in Top 9 Week and wound up lasting five more weeks. In Season 10, Casey Abrams was saved in Top 11 Week and was then eliminated five weeks later. And in Season 11, Jessica Sanchez was saved in Top 7 Week and made...

How do you judge a singing competition when you don't sing live yourself? It was a packed night for judges Harry Connick Jr., Keith Urban and especially for Jennifer Lopez, who performed her new single “I Luh Ya Papi.” Lopez took over the Idol stage with giant fake brick walls covered in graffiti that proudly declared Lopez was performing in “The Bronx.”

Of the Bottom 3 singers in the "American Idol" Season 13 Top 10, two had sat on the stools multiple times in the past. Mk Nobilette and Majesty Rose were the veterans, while Dexter Roberts took his first spin on the silver stool. But who went home?
Ultimately, despite a strong "save me" performance, the judges declined to use their save on Mk Nobilette.

Once again, we're facing some uncertainty as Thursday (March 20) night's "American Idol" results loom. After Wednesday's variably so-so performances, I can imagine a variety of potential eliminations. However, I remain uncertain on which singers would force the judges to use their Save. Probably Alex Preston and Caleb Johnson would be guaranteed saves. But who else? Malaya? Probably. Jena "Gina" Irene? Maybe. Anybody else? I'm not so sure. I'm using a J-Lo picture, because I know she's not going home and I also know she's performing tonight. I don't, however, know how to consistently spell "I Luh Ya Papi," but I know it's J-Lo's new song about her appreciation for the postseason exploits of David Ortiz. Also performing on Thursday? Something called Royal Teeth. Click through for the full recap! 8:58 p.m. Et. This week, I remembered that "Idol" was on at 9 and not at 8. I'm the true hero.

American Idol‘s 13th season premieres tonight with a new(-ish) cast of judges including the irascible Dolphin Tale star Harry Connick Jr., budding U-Turn actress Jennifer Lopez, and grown-up Peppermint Patty Keith Urban. Maybe they’ll do a good job! I don’t know! But I’ll be there watching because American Idol is still, despite sinking (but relatively phenomenal) ratings, the greatest singing cotillion on TV. Here are five reasons why.
5. The Hollywood rounds give you the best highs and most hilarious lows.
Twelve seasons in, the Hollywood rounds of American Idol remain the most underrated part of the show and maybe the entire reality-competition genre. The bustling energy of the second tryout, where attention-starved contestants who’ve passed the city auditions jump to Hollywood and attempt group numbers in a Fanny Brice-on-roller-skates way, is often the best indicator of how truly talented and likable the auditioning contestants are.

A day after one of the strongest typhoons on record devastated the Philippines, celebrities are reaching out on social media to express their sorrow - and to urge others to help. Typhoon Haiyan made landfall in the Pacific island country Friday and ravaged the city of Tacloban, where bodies were reportedly scattered on the streets after punishing waves and high winds ripped apart buildings and tore children from their parents' arms. At least 138 people are confirmed dead, but officials have put the death toll at no fewer than 1,000, reports CNN. Celebrities - including Alyssa Milano and Kevin Bacon, as well...

Gleeks and Glamberts rejoice: Adam Lambert is joining the cast of “Glee” for the season 5 of the Fox series. The show’s co-creator Ryan Murphy announced the news via Twitter, tweeting, “I am thrilled to announce that the super talented Adam Lambert is joining the cast of ‘Glee’ this fall.” Lambert has not commented via Twitter or otherwise. It remains to be seen whether Lambert will play himself, as he did on “Pretty Little Liars,” or a fictional character. He is the second “American Idol” contest to join the show: Jessica Sanchez had a two-episode role as a performer from a...

Glee‘s Ryan Murphy tweeted tonight that the Season 8 American Idol runner-up will join the Fox series for its upcoming fifth season. “I am thrilled to announce that the super talented Adam Lambert is joining the cast of Glee this fall,” the showrunner wrote. Murphy offered up no details about the singer’s role on the show, but this could mean Lambert’s name is off the shortlist for a seat on the Idol judges table left vacant by the recent departures of Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj and Randy Jackson. He has been talked up as a possible replacement on the aging Fox singing competition’s panel, along with fellow Idol alums Kelly Clarkson and Jennifer Hudson. Meanwhile, this isn’t the first time network nepotism has made its way to the Glee set; 2012 Idol runner-up Jessica Sanchez made a couple of appearances this past season. Related: ‘Glee’s New...

Twenty-five years later, the story of one Los Angeles mother's fight to save her son from an AIDS-related death still resonates with Hollywood families.
Celebrities like Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale, Tia and Tamera Mowry, and Tom Arnold came with small children Sunday to the 24th annual "A Time For Heroes" celebrity picnic fundraiser for the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to the global eradication of pediatric AIDS. Laid out on the Creative Artist Agency's lawn for the event was a simulated surfing ride and skateboard decorating for the older kids, carnival games and bubble machines for tots and musical performances on a main stage for all.
The happy scene seemed worlds away from the AIDS crisis in sub-Saharan Africa, where most of the non-profit's programs are located. But for one celebrity attendee, the cause was deeply personal.

President Barack Obama paid some lip service to an American Idol alum—and cracked everyone up in the process. Runner-up Jessica Sanchez found herself the beneficiary of a hilarious quip by the commander in chief Tuesday night at the Asian-American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month celebration at the White House when Obama let fly a cheeky zinger about the camaraderie that was on full display in the room. And, apparently, that camaraderie was evident on his collar. "I wanna thank everybody who's here, the incredible warmth of the reception," Obama said, before adding, "A sign of the warmth is the lipstick on my collar." During a month where some days have provided little laughs in Washington, President Barack Obama found a way to deliver some humor Tuesday evening.
Speaking at the White House's Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage month celebration, Obama quickly got the crowd in good spirits.
"I want to thank everybody who’s here -- the incredible warmth of the reception," Obama said, according to a White House release. "A sign of the warmth is the lipstick on my collar."
Obama then shifted to who was responsible, pointing a joking finger at "American Idol" star Jessica Sanchez.
"I have to say I think I know the culprit -- where is Jessica Sanchez?," he said. "Jessica -- it wasn’t Jessica. It was her aunt. Where is she? Auntie, right there. Look at this."
Obama kept the wave of laughter going, shifting to his standing with First Lady Michelle Obama.

When President Barack Obama stepped up to the White House podium Tuesday night (May 28), there was something a bit off. The president joked about it right off the bat, mentioning the lipstick stain on his collar.
"I want to thank everybody who's here for the incredible warmth of the reception. A sign of the warmth is the lipstick on my collar," Obama says, "I have to say I think I know the culprit." Not only does a traditional concert honor America's military in general this year, it remembers one of its own.
Charles Durning was a Tony-winning and Oscar-nominated co-star of such projects as "The Sting," "Dog Day Afternoon" and "Tootsie"; a recipient of a Silver Star, a Bronze Star and three Purple Hearts for his World War II service; and a frequent participant in the National Memorial Day Concert. The 24th annual event will recall Durning - who died last Christmas Eve - during its PBS telecast Sunday, May 26 (check local listings).
"He's the reason I do the concert," longtime co-host and tireless military supporter Joe Mantegna ("Criminal Minds") tells Zap2it. "I did my very first one on his invitation. Kellie Pickler has been crowned the "DWTS" winner.
The country singer was named the Season 16 "DWTS" champion after weeks of competition, beating out Disney star Zendaya, Super Bowl champ Jacoby Jones and Olympic gymnast Aly Raisman.
"This is amazing," Kellie said, before Jacoby put the "DWTS" winner on his shoulders as she held the Mirror Ball trophy with her partner Derek Hough.
Shortly after the results were announced, Kellie, who initially didn't hear co-host Tom Bergeron name her the "DWTS" winner, spoke with ABC News. "This has been an unbelievable night. I'm kind of lost for words," the "American Idol" alumna said.

Dancing With The Stars 16 Kellie Pickler & Derek Hough won the whole show tonight. Tonight's finale show kicked off with a performance from a couple of the dance pros, and they were joined by the final 4. Then Kellie & Derek did an encore performance of their Freestyle routine from last night. From there, we learned that Alexandra & Mark landed in 4th place,so they were immediately eliminated at that point. Next, the female finalists and DWTS female pro dancers did a "girls" routine. After that, they brought back some previously voted off celebs from this season to do performances with their dance pro partners. They included: Wynona Judd, Lisa Vanderpump, Dorothy Hamill, along with past champion Kristi Yamaguchi, and Andy Dick. Next, we saw rap star,Psy, perform his awful, new song, titled, “Gentleman.” His dancing was also lousy. I wish they would just quit inviting him to perform on these shows.

Los Angeles — The third time's the charm for Candice Glover on "American Idol."
The booming 23-year-old R&B vocalist from St. Helena Island, S.C., won the Fox singing competition after auditioning a trio of times and making it to the finals this year. Glover looked stunned when "Idol" host Ryan Seacrest announced she bested soulful 22-year-old country singer Kree Harrison from Woodville, Texas.
Glover said backstage after winning she learned to "have fun, live in the moment and be confident."
"Because in previous years I wasn't, so that's definitely the key if you want to audition for the show or have a career," she said.
After her crowning, an emotional Glover sobbed her way through her new single "I Am Beautiful."

Previously on Glee, Rachel was tripping balls on nostalgia at her Funny Girl audition, so she hallucinated Original New Directions onto the stage with her, where they Didn't Stop Believin' together again. Blaine made it plain that he wanted to spend all his days of all of his life with perfect human being Kurt Hummel, even if they were still mostly broken up (but still hooking up at literally every opportunity). A great many things happen in the "Glee" Season 4 finale, "All or Nothing." Brittany deals with being a sudden and MIT-bound genius. Ryder finds out the identity of his catfishing buddy. Rachel has a "Funny Girl" callback.
There's a proposal. There's a wedding. And many people sing many songs.
Do any of these things lead to season-ending resolution? Not really, but there's plenty to entertain you on the way.
Good Brittany S. Pierce
Kids, if you want to go to college, you should study hard, ace the Sat and have a bunch of activities. Doodling on the back of a Scantron sheet really isn't enough.
And you can find any pattern you want in randomness if you try hard enough. Just saying ...
"Brittany, it's possible that you might be the most brilliant scientific mind since Albert Einstein."
Rachel is all alone
But she can sing really good. Not that it matters.

Glee has faced some challenges this season. It had to adapt to a split-format for story telling, following part of the cast to New York while introducing new characters in Lima and furthering the stories of the characters who remained after graduation.
In a lot of ways Glee Season 4 had bitten off more than it could chew. Tonight was indicative of the show's struggle to devote adequate attention to all its myriad characters.
For a finale, "All or Nothing" left me feeling kind of odd and unsettled, but I guess when a show has already been renewed for two seasons, that's its prerogative.
Brittany's early admission to MIT is perhaps the most oddball way to cover up her pregnancy that Ryan and Co. could have thought up. With all the available choices for writing her off the show, this particular route was just over the top.
But this is Glee.
