The two British icons bring a huge amount of joy to the heartwarming true story of Bernard Jordan, the 89-year-old veteran who snuck off to attend the 70th anniversary of D-day
Michael Caine and the late Glenda Jackson bring their A games to this true-life heartwarmer about the 89-year-old second world war Royal Navy veteran Bernard Jordan, who in 2014 jauntily sneaked out of his seaside care home (where he lived with his wife Irene) on a secret mission to get aboard a cross-channel ferry and attend the 70th anniversary celebrations of the D-day landings in Normandy — having failed to get included on an official group excursion. He was dubbed “the great escaper” in the press although then, as now, the care home insisted that there was no question of forbidding Bernard from going, so there was no escape as such. Facetiously representing them as busybody elf ’n’ safety camp commandants...

"If you want to honor your friend, Bernie... You've spent 70 years loving me. We have never wasted one second of our time together." Pathe has revealed a trailer for a British dramedy titled The Great Escaper, based on a true story from a few years ago. The feel-good film will open in UK cinemas this fall, but there's still no US release date set yet. In the summer of 2014, Bernard Jordan staged a "great escape" from his care home to join fellow war veterans on a beach in Normandy, France, commemorating their fallen comrades at the D-Day Landings 70th anniversary. The legendary Michael Caine stars as Bernie, which is pretty much perfect casting. Bernie's adventure, spanning a mere 48 hours, also marked the culmination of his 60-year marriage to Rene – The Great Escaper celebrates their enduring love but always with an eye to the lessons we might learn from the Greatest Generation.

Pathé has launched the brand-new trailer for ‘The Great Escaper’ which is set to open in cinemas across the UK and Ireland from 6 October 2023.

In the summer of 2014, Bernard Jordan (Michael Caine) made global headlines. He had staged a “great escape” from his care home to join fellow war veterans on a beach in Normandy, commemorating their fallen comrades at the D-Day Landings 70th anniversary.
It was a story that captured the imagination of the world as Bernie embodied the defiant, “can-do” spirit of a generation that was fast disappearing. But of course, it wasn’t the whole story. It was an inspirational but sanitised retelling of one man’s need to come to terms with the lasting trauma of war.

For years we’ve been hearing that writer/director Joe Cornish and actor John Boyega have been talking about making a sequel to their 2011 alien invasion film Attack the Block (watch it Here). The project was officially announced last year – and now Boyega has revealed to the folks at Collider that he and Cornish have been crafting the story for Attack the Block 2 together.
Boyega said,
The story has actually been presented by myself and Joe Cornish. We’ve collaborated heavily on making a story that makes sense for Moses and the other characters, and the new characters that will be coming up in the sequel too. And then, also, there’s different perspectives in writing it, with Joe having his perspective and me having mine. London has changed so much, in so many different ways, over the years since the first movie. We’re just trying to make...

“This movie’s going to make the world forget about all their problems.”
The only question: Which movie?
Judd Apatow co-writes, directs, and produces upcoming Netflix comedy “The Bubble,” about the makings of a fictional movie in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic. While “The Bubble” will be available to stream April 1, the faux film at the center of its plot, “Cliff Beasts 6: Battle for Everest: Memories of a Requiem,” alas will never hit theaters…especially if its director, played by Fred Armisen, can’t deliver a satisfying cut to the studio executive (Kate McKinnon).
“The Bubble” centers on the behind-the-scenes drama of making the sixth installment in the “Cliff Beasts” universe, the “23rd largest dino franchise ever.”

Attack The Block Blu-RaySony Home Entertainment2011/Rated R/Running Time 88 minsList Price: $35.99 -- Available October 25, 2011John Carpenter once said that when a filmmaker has limited resources, the more creative they are. In an age where most films that stand a chance of making an impact at the box-office have already been backed by millions upon millions of dollars, its rare to see low budget features at all, let alone a good one. It remains to be seen whether or not Joe Cornish's Attack the Block will make an impact at the box-office, but it definitely has the makings of a cult classic. His incredibly funny, exciting and inspiring action-horror-comedy features a simple story with performances that go above and beyond most big budget f/x pictures. At times one can feel the budget restraints of the production, yet they are not flaws, just enjoyable quirks that work surprisingly well in service of the experience.

Attack The Block
Stars: John Boyega, Nick Frost, Jodie Whittaker, Danielle Vitalis | Written and Directed by: Joe Cornish
Having heard absolutely nothing but raving reviews since its world premiere at South By Southwest back in March, I went into Attack The Block with some of the highest expectations for any movie this year. Those extremely high expectations were exceeded and it was well worth the wait.
Attack The Block perfectly blends comedy, horror and sci-fi into one action packed thrill ride. You’ll be hard pressed to find another film as innovative and one that puts and entirely new touch on the the alien invasion genre. As fun as it is for a summer action flick, Joe Cornish’s directorial debut will quite possibly end up being one of the best films overall this year.

Attack The Block
Stars: John Boyega, Jodie Whittaker, Luke Treadaway, Nick Frost, Danielle Vitalis | Written and Directed by Joe Cornish
Attack the Block feels something like the culmination of a new wave of British filmmaking, if you’ll forgive such grandiose showboating. With the mainstream successes of Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost in recent years, followed by films by Garth Jennings, Ricky Gervais, Chris Morris and more recently Richard Ayoade, it seems clearer than ever that British television comedy is a particularly fertile breeding ground for quality filmmaking. The latest example of this is Joe Cornish’s Attack the Block. Cornish, who made his name with Adam Buxton on their cult TV and now radio programme, The Adam and Joe Show, presents a slick urban-comedy-sci-fi-horror-action flick that in one fell swoop proves the first-time feature director as an assured talent and a definite ‘one to watch’ for coming years.

Synopsis
Attack the Block is a fast, funny, frightening action adventure movie that pits a teen gang against an invasion of savage alien monsters. It turns a housing estate into a sci-fi playground. A tower block into a fortress under siege. And weapon-wielding teenage thugs into heroes. Think Assault On Precinct 13 only with monsters and a tower block. Or La Haine crossed with Aliens. It's inner city versus outer space.

The first territory to see this creatures-gone-wild feature is the United Kingdom, with a May 11th theatrical release. Other territory showings are soon to be announced. The film itself pits a youth gang against a group of alien marauders. This second group crashes lands in East London and here they find an equally aggressive race. Another alien invasion flick is on its way, this one written and directed by Joe Cornish (actor; Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz) and featuring an urban slant. Which is far better than a suburban slant, but not quite as cool as a sharp ninety-degree slant. What the hell was I talking about again? Oh, yeah! Aliens!
