It’s that time again: We need your vote for Project of the Year.
Our Project of the Year alumni include Justin Simien’s “Dear White People,” which won our inaugural contest in 2012 (and went on to become a hit movie and soon, a Netflix series). The 2014 contest winer, Amy Jo Johnson’s “The Space Between,” is set for a theatrical release later this year. “Almost Adults,” our 2015 winner, played at various festivals including Outfest, and is now available on demand. On many of those platforms, you can also watch 2013 winner, “Know How.”
Now we need to select another winner to join that group, and that’s where you come in.
Below, we’ve gathered information on all 12 Project of the Month winners in 2016. At the bottom of the page, there’s a poll where you can select your favorite.

To state the obvious, 2017 feels like the ideal time for a feminist horror film set firmly against the concept of male entitlement. If the elevator pitch for her film “What Metal Girls are Into” is any indication, director/writer/producer Laurel Vail agrees.
The short follows a trio of women attending a music festival who find a little more than they bargain for in their rental house. In addition to the promise of the premise, Vail wanted to deliver a quality horror film while saluting some underrepresented corners of music fandom. With strong women in front of and behind the camera, “What Metal Girls are Into” began its path to the screen last summer.
After a successful crowdfunding campaign exceeded Vail’s goal (just take a look at those magnificently named rewards tiers), the team had the go-ahead for a Southern California desert December shoot. In the meantime, IndieWire readers...

Here’s your daily dose of an indie film, web series, TV pilot, what-have-you in progress, as presented by the creators themselves. At the end of the week, you’ll have the chance to vote for your favorite.

Logline: A feminist thriller about three women going to a three day metal festival in the desert who find something disturbing in the freezer of their isolated vacation rental.
Elevator Pitch:
This deals with misogynists’ sense of entitlement. It’s funny and has some pretty great violence at the end. As a bonus, the crew will mostly be made up of women because I want to create more opportunities for women in the industry.

In two weeks, vampires, cannibals, Halloween frights and more will grace the screen at the Muvico Theater in Rosemont, Illinois for Bruce Cambell's Horror Film Festival. Now a telekinetic kid and and an apocalypse have joined the killer lineup, as both June and JeruZalem will make their U.S. premieres at the festival.
Press Release: "Chicago, Illinois (August 6, 2015) – The second annual Bruce Campbell Horror Film Festival presented by Wizard World, running August 20 – 23 at the Muvico Theater in Rosemont, Illinois (9701 Bryn Mawr Ave., Rosemont), is proud to announce the addition of two more films to the already bursting schedule.
June, starring Casper Van Dien (Starship Troopers) and Kennedy Brice (The Walking Dead), tells the story of nine-year-old June (Brice), who has been shuffled in and out of foster homes for years. Though she tries to be good, no matter where she goes a trail of chaos and terror seems to follow.

Featuring a plot that amplifies people’s fears of STDs, Eric England’s Contracted has done well on VOD, with its potent combination of unsettling decomposition and keen social commentary attracting a steady stream of viewers. The home media response to Contracted has been successful enough for IFC Midnight to move forward with a sequel, Contracted: Phase II, which will follow both familiar and new faces.
Deadline reports that IFC Midnight is developing Contracted: Phase II with Josh Forbes in the director’s chair. The sequel will mark Forbes’ first feature film, working off a script by Craig Walendziak.
Eric England, who wrote and directed Contracted, is not attached to the sequel. The follow-up film will see the return of characters Riley (Matt Mercer) and Alice (Alice Macdonald). In addition to Mercer and Macdonald, the sequel’s cast includes Peter Cilella, Marianna Palka, Morgan Peter Brown, Laurel Vail, Anna Lore and Suzanne Voss.

Exclusive: After seeing strong VOD returns from last year’s Std horror flick Contracted, IFC Midnight is springing for its sequel, Contracted: Phase II. Writer-director Eric England’s first film was an original low-budget take on the zombie genre about a young woman in rapid decay after picking up an icky, mysterious disease from a one-night stand. The sequel continues where Contracted left off, as newly-infected Riley (Matt Mercer) scrambles to track down those responsible for the outbreak and discovers a larger conspiracy that threatens to infect the world.
England’s not involved in the follow-up, which is already in production in La; he’s currently filming indie comedy Get The Girl. Instead, BoulderLight Pictures producers J.D. Lifshitz and Raphael Margules tapped new blood to helm the sequel, hiring newcomer Josh Forbes to direct from a script by first-timer Craig Walendziak.

Modern-day TV viewers know that reality show subjects doing disturbing things is nothing new, but in Delivery: The Beast Within, a camera crew following a young couple’s pregnancy captures unnerving behavior of the paranormal variety, leading to content too controversial even for reality TV. We’ve been provided with an exclusive behind-the-scenes clip in which director Brian Netto discusses the film’s origins.
Los Angeles, CA – “A jaw-dropping intense thriller with a “shocking, can’t-believe-i-saw-that conclusion” (HorrorNews.net), Delivery: The Beast Within terrifies on DVD and digital HD September 30 from Cinedigm (Nasdaq: Cidm) and The Collective. Blending found footage and reality show genres, the nightmarish feature that is “so intense, so frightening, and so real” (Aint It Cool News) marks the directorial debut of Brian Netto, who also co-wrote the film with producer Adam Schindler, and is “bolstered by outstanding performances by its two leads,” (IndieWire) Laurel Vail and Danny Barclay.

Delivery: The Beast Within attempts psychological horror on a realistic scale – well, as realistic as fake reality television can be – but in attempting to blur the lines between a Hellish pregnancy and deeply-rooted mental insanity, writer/director Brian Netto creates a found footage horror film without much intrigue or flavor. Mokumentary horror films are no longer a dime a dozen, and while a film like The Possession Of Michael King finds fresh, frantic new ways to introduce horrific scares, Delivery: The Beast Within feels lifeless, repetitive, and frustratingly underwhelming. It’s possible to find ways to inject genre craziness into films favoring a human vibe, but Netto would rather make demonic possession just a suggested afterthought, going the route of an even further watered-down Paranormal Activity copycat – minus a creeping sense of unnerving terror.

"Found Footage" is a tired trope, so one hesitates to lump in "Delivery" with the rest of the found footage horror genre because it's not under the guise of amateur "found" footage, it's footage that was specifically created— just for something quite different than what it was intended. "Delivery" makes horror out of what might be the least horrific genre (depends on who you ask) imaginable: the pregnancy reality show. Director Brian Netto and co-writer Adam Schindler have taken the taken both the found footage and reality show genres, and mashed them into one very scary and very entertaining homage to "Rosemary's Baby," and a worthy entrant into the pregnancy horror genre. We know things aren't going to go well for Rachel (Laurel Vail) and Kyle (Danny Barclay) when the film opens on the show's producer trying to explain just what went so, so wrong during the taping of a reality show documenting their pregnancy.

What was formally called Delivery is now Delivery: The Beast Within. Can’t say I’m the hugest fan of the subtitle but whatever sells the movie. We first reported about this film last June and it is a film that I have personally been wanting to see. Especially since it sounds like Devil’s Due didn’t deliver the goods. Check out the trailer below and let us know what you think in the comments below.

Males can only imagine what it feels like to be pregnant, of course, but a whole lot of it seems truly unpleasant to me. The nausea, the discomfort, the inevitably strange feeling of having something grow inside you. Clearly it's the most natural thing in the world, and the payoff is pretty amazing, but filmmakers as varied as Roman Polanski, Ridley Scott, and David Cronenberg have used the act of procreation as the starting point for some truly memorable horror stories. More recent examples of pregnancy-related horror include Inside (2007), Grace (2009), and the film you're reading about right now.
The calm and quiet "found footage" indie known as Delivery tells a simple story in a familiar fashion: it's meant to be footage from an unaired "reality" series about couples who find out they're pregnant after having trouble on the fertilization front. Rachel (Laurel Vail) and Kyle (Danny Barclay) are a perfectly normal young couple who,...

For the lack of better words, it's been a labor of love for the past few years for filmmakers Brian Netto and Adam Schindler as they prepare to deliver their debut their horror thriller into the world.
Delivery -- directed by Netto, produced by Schindler and co-written by both -- is an unnerving found footage-inspired feature that follows Kyle (Danny Barclay) and his wife Rachel Massey's (Laurel Vail) pregnancy for a reality TV show.
But as strange events begin to occur and the Rachel starts to suspect her unborn child is possessed by an evil spirit, the Massey's blessed event turns into an unspeakable horror. After the initial "episode," the rest of the film is assembled from more than 250 hours of unaired footage.
Netto and Schindler, who made their first film together on VHS as a pair of sixth graders in the St. Paul, Minn., suburb of Woodbury, are preparing...

The 2013 Los Angeles Film Festival kicked off yet another jam-packed year, one light on horror movies, but full none the less. One of the scary movies that was screened is Delivery, a horror/found-footage/reality TV/hybrid movie. Let's get right to the point: If you don't like any of those elements, or combination thereof, you will not like this movie.
Delivery is set within a reality TV show, where we follow a couple who is trying to conceive after a succession of miscarriages. Along the way, the wife thinks she is being stalked/haunted/whatever. Her husband struggles to try to keep it under control. At some point, they stop doing the reality show and ask the camera dude to come document the rest of the pregnancy for them.

L.A. Film Fest Review: 'Delivery' Brings Scary and Entertaining New Life to Well-Known Horror Genres

From Polanski’s Rosemary’S Baby, to Cronenberg’s The Brood, to Lars von Trier’s Antichrist, parenthood and horror cinema have a long and storied history. There is a vulnerability and ceaseless fear inherent in being a mom or a dad, and when a film effectively plays on those sensitivities, the results transcend genre and head into personal and deeply human territory. The latest arrival in the progen subgenre is Brian Netto’s Delivery, currently in post-production. We have a first look at the film with a just-released still and poster.

Leading Ladies is a quirky but charming comedy with a classical sensibility. Co-directed by Daniel Beahm and Erika Randall Beahm, the film is about two sisters and their overbearing stage mother, once a champion dancer. The light, playful nature of the film is evident from the opening credits. Great care was taken in staging, choreographing and staging the entire film to work whimsically with the musical score.

We've been following the progress of Brian Feeney's supernatural slasher flick The Echo Game pretty damned closely around here. Why? Because we strive to deliver badassery to you on a daily basis! Sometimes, though, we need a bit of assistance, and help came when Feeney himself dropped us a line to let us know about a special behind-the-scene video that he has just put up. Dig it!
The film stars Alisha Seaton and Jeannie Bolet as April Reilly and Casey Lin, “a young lesbian couple who must protect their daughter (Melissa Lee) from rogue scientist Anne Cassavettes (Judy Clement), who’s on a murderous rampage to steal the girl’s psychic powers for herself,” Feeney says. “It’s low-budget but looks great (Jeffrey Waldron served as director of photography), and we got some great gore out of it, too.” Liliya Czarina, Angela Landis, Laurel Vail, and Robert McAtee round out the principal cast.
