Back in October, Weeds and Homeland alum Martin Donovan jumped aboard Marvel’s Ant-Man, in a role “pivotal” to the size-changing superhero story. In the months since, a shroud of secrecy has surrounded Donovan’s role. Now, thanks to Bleeding Cool, the mystery has been solved at last.
At the Ant-Man red carpet world premiere in Hollywood this week, it was revealed that Donovan is playing none other than Marvel Comics character Mitchell Carson. If you have no idea who that is, fret not, because you aren’t alone. Donovan himself told reporters that they’d have to Google him once they found out who he was playing, and we’ve gone ahead and done that for you. Be warned, some minor spoilers may follow.

Filming on Ant-Man might be well underway, but that hasn’t stopped the project from adding another name to its ensemble, with Martin Donovan signing on to join the cast. The Weeds actor has agreed to take an undisclosed role in the film, and while the character’s identity is shrouded in mystery, THR describes him as “pivotal”. Given that filming has been going on for some two months now, we’d assumed that Donovan’s role is a minor one, with possible significance to a future film. Marvel does like to set up future movies in...

Character actors have become an integral part to the success of any modern-day blockbuster. Would The Dark Knight have truly blossomed without Michael Caine or Morgan Freeman? What about Guardians of the Galaxy without John C. Reilly, Michael Rooker or Benico Del Toro? While each of these actors weren.t integral to their film.s action scenes or special effects, their acting pedigree helped to add more depth to the lead characters, which allowed audiences to resonate with them more. Ant-Man has now added Martin Donovan to its already stellar ensemble to prove that they are clearly trying to emulate the sturdy superhero casting model of recent years. Donovan has been a television stalwart for a number of years, with his most famous portrayal coming on Showtime.s Weeds, where he played Peter Scottson opposite Mary-Louis Parker.s Nancy Botwin. Donovan has also collaborated with director Hal Hartley on a...

Hannibal’s second season will take the psychological thriller series to a whole new level when it attempts to get inside the head of Laurence Fishburne’s Jack Crawford. As someone who hasn’t yet delved into the wonderfully strange world of Hannibal, I don’t know much about the character, but anytime somebody in a television series needs to get a therapist it’s for a good reason and is often ripe with entertaining character development. To do a truly great job, you need the right actor to pick apart the mind of Crawford, which is why the Fox series has cast Martin Donovan (Boss).
According to TVLine, Donovan will be playing the therapist tasked with getting to the bottom of Fishburne’s FBI agent’s psychological issues. I’m not sure what they are exactly, but considering the character is potentially recurring, I’d say they’re messy enough to require multiple sessions.

Is there anyone on Hannibal not getting professional help?!
It’s a fair question, especially in light of news that NBC’s sublime psychological thriller has tapped TV vet Martin Donovan (Weeds, Boss) to play Jack Crawford’s (Laurence Fishburne) therapist at the FBI.

The potentially recurring gig will start early into Hannibal‘s second season (slated to premiere at midseason).
Donovan’s TV credits also include NBC’s The Firm, DirecTV’s Rogue, and USA Network’s The Dead Zone.

Ray Donovan, Season 1, Episode 4: “Black Cadillac”
Written by: David Hollander
Directed by: John Dahl
Airs Sundays at 10 Pm (Et) on Showtime
Four episodes into Ray Donovan and already a regular viewing pattern emerges. When Ray appears onscreen, the natural reaction is to tense up. These are the moments when the show is at its bleakest; when it truly tries to be a crime drama and not some mishmash of family interludes and semi-comedic relationships that might actually be intended for comedic effect.
When any other tangential Donovan comes onscreen, though, the show’s timbre changes completely. Now Ray Donovan is a black comedy closer to Weeds or Shameless. It’s the humor of Breaking Bad without the actual dark meat of Vince Gilligan’s AMC drama. Ray’s brothers and his father live just as dour lives as Ray himself, yet they manage to enjoy themselves despite unpleasant living situations.

Though The Collaborator is Martin Donovan’s writing and directorial debut, he is no stranger to the game. Donovan has acted in both film and television for over two decades. His roles have ranged from co-staring in the 2009 horror film, A Haunting in Connecticut, to playing Mary-Louise Parker’s love interest in the popular Showtime television series, Weeds. Though Martin had plenty of acting experience in a number of different genres (as well in a T.V. show about a woman who sells pot), The Collaborator marks the first time an audience gets to see what he can do behind the camera....

Martin Donovan has an impressively long acting resumé, from his much admired collaborations with indie auteur Hal Hartley to his arc on Weeds to, most recently, his role in the acclaimed Starz show Boss. In short, the actor has seen more than a few directors at work. Yet when Donovan donned the metaphorical jodhpurs to helm his first movie, Collaborator, there was still one aspect of the filmmaker’s trade which came as a surprise. “No one told me that one of the key parts of a director’s job is to keep people from killing each other,” says Donovan.

Indie audiences first came to know and love actor Martin Donovan through his symbiotic partnership with director Hal Hartley in a series of films in the early 90s, which included Trust, Simple Men, and Amateur. Since then, Donovan has become a staple of film - The Opposite of Sex, Insomnia, Saved! - and television (Weeds, Boss), where he can be counted on to deliver deadpan performances rife with prickly, world-weary humor and simmering intelligence. It's no wonder that Donovan's writing and directing debut reflects the qualities he's honed and absorbed for so long. Collaborator sets the stage for a culture clash ripe for our times. Robert Longfellow (Donovan) is a successful, highbrow playwright visiting his childhood home in Reseda, California - aka 'the Valley' - when he runs into his longtime neighbor Gus (David Morse), an angry man who loves his country but hates what it's become; he is,...

Looking at HBO's recent move -- the canceling of male-driven shows "Hung," "How to Make it in America," and "Bored to Death" and the renewal of the Laura Dern-fronted "Enlightened" -- it's become even more apparent: TV is now the land of women. And that's not a bad thing.
We've seen it across network TV this year. Shows like Fox's "New Girl" and CBS's "2 Broke Girls" have built a solid following. They've outperformed many competitors -- including those targeted at men like "Man Up" and "Last Man Standing" -- and sparked countless "Let's hear it for the ladies!" stories. It's just part of the TV development life cycle. Can we thank Showtime for that?
HBO is clearing its schedule for "Girls" and "Veep" -- two female-driven comedies -- that seem like they belong on Showtime circa 2009.

It's not TV, it's Showtime. HBO, please don't sue me for using your famous trademark for a rival premium channel. Showtime has produced some quality shows over the years, most notably Dexter, Californication and Weeds, though I'm not a fan of the latter two much anymore.
Deadline reports, the network has just given the greenlight to three new pilots: Gurland, Masters of Sex and Ray Donovan. The trio could soon join Homeland and House of Lies as pilots that have gone on to series.

Despite banishment, Jenny is back on the Upper East Side. After Chuck, Blair, Serena and Nate united in a old-fashioned high-school Gossip Girl takedown, Vanessa and Juliet decided that it was time to turn to bring little Humphrey back into the mix. [Possible Spoilers] However, upcoming events may bring about a temporary truce between warring factions. Gossip Girl Season 4 Episode 10, "Gaslit," promises to be an excellent episode. Tate Donovan of FX's Damages comes on board to direct the episode. Donovan has done an excellent job before on shows like Nip/Tuck, Weeds ("A Yippity Sippity" - one of the few funny episodes this season) and his Damages. - With Tarsem dropping out of the picture, Gregor Jordan (Ned Kelly/Buffalo Soldiers) replacing him and Sam Jackson being the first player to sign onto the project, I felt that Unthinkable had lost a couple of its feathers. This ‘disinterest’ for the project has changed as of last week when Michael Sheen signed on as the film’s antagonistic force and today’s signing of supporting players in Brandon Routh (who was originally attached to star in Jordan's upcoming The Informers), Gil Bellows, Martin Donovan and Carrie-Anne Moss means that Senator Entertainment are making some serious strides in making sure that their slate of 2009 releases find larger audiences.
