The "Leprechaun" film series bears the distinction of lasting for 25 without ever offering up at least one legitimate classic. The eight film Leprechaun horror franchise is about to get a ninth installment, with Lionsgate recently hiring director Felipe Vargas (Milk Teeth) to “reimagine” the franchise.
But what can we expect from this next installment in the long-running saga? Felipe Vargas sat down with Splattercast ahead of St. Patrick’s Day to tease the new movie.
Vargas tells the show, “I’m so honored to be on that project. It’s such a cool franchise. To me what makes the franchise so special is that it really is limitless. It doesn’t need to be grounded. It can just be gory, sexy, crazy.”
“We’re still figuring out that tone,” he continues. “And the balance between horror and comedy. I would love for it to be scary as hell and also hilarious. I think we’re going back to a lot of the roots of Leprechaun in a lot of different ways,...

You can always count on Syfy to program the Leprechaun movies for St. Patrick’s Day, and we’re happy to report that this year is no exception. Syfy will be airing an all-day Leprechaun Franchise Marathon for St. Patrick’s Day once again, taking place on Sunday, March 17!
The good news? They’re showing All 8 Movies throughout the day, including 2018’s Leprechaun Returns. The bad news? As always, the movies are playing out of order.
The Leprechaun franchise kicked off with Mark Jones’s original horror-comedy in 1993, which was followed by five Warwick Davis-starring sequels, a reboot, and later Leprechaun Returns in 2018. Even though Leprechaun Returns was a sequel to the original movie, Linden Porco took over the role of the title character, played by Dylan Postl for Leprechaun Origins.
Here’s the full schedule for this year’s marathon…

Halloween might be the next major holiday on the calendar but that doesn’t mean we can’t celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with a little luck o’ the Irish. Ahead of Halloween and to mark the occasion of the first Leprechaun movie’s 30th anniversary, director Mark Jones is giving his take not on the horror flick that launched an eight-movie (so far) franchise, but its sequels both good, bad and whatever Origins was going for.
Speaking with Comic Book Resources, director Mark Jones said he is a fan of most of the sequels, although there is one entry that stands out as notably bad. “I was a little bit involved in [Leprechaun 2]. I was a producer on [Leprechaun 2], but then I went off to do other stuff. I thought Leprechaun in the Hood was great. There’s a whole fan base there. Everyone but [Leprechaun: Origins], and all...

There have been eight films in the Leprechaun franchise to date, with 2018’s Leprechaun Returns most recently heading back to the original movie’s timeline in the wake of reboot Leprechaun Origins four years prior. What’s next? As Bloody Disgusting told you last year, Lionsgate has been actively seeking pitches for the next Leprechaun movie.
As an update to that scoop, THR reports this afternoon that Lionsgate has now hired director Felipe Vargas to “reimagine” the Leprechaun franchise.
Mike Van Waes wrote the screenplay.
Roy Lee is producing through Vertigo Entertainment.
THR notes, “[Warwick] Davis is not expected to reprise the role.”
“Thirty years after its debut, this franchise still casts a spell, and we’re thrilled to be bringing it back with a new vision,” Erin Westerman, president of production for Lionsgate’s Motion Picture Group, said in a statement. “Roy and Miri are two of our most trusted producers,...

Here is one to add to the “never would have expected that” list. WWE’s Hornswoggle, best known as the miniature leprechaun who taunts various wrestling personalities, has been suspended by the company due to his first violation of the WWE wellness policy.
WWE issued the following release on WWE.com.
“In accordance with its Talent Wellness Program, WWE has suspended Dylan Postl (Hornswoggle) for 30 days, effective immediately, for his first violation of the company’s policy.”
There has yet to be any word on the nature of Hornswoggle’s violation, whether it is due to recreational drug use, performance enhancing drugs or supplements, or something else.
The 29 year old Hornswoggle has been part of WWE now for close to a decade, originally entering the company in 2006 as “Little Bastard,” a leprechaun partner to Fit Finlay. He later went on to become WWE Cruiserweight Champion in 2007 by defeating...

It’s no secret that Darren Lynn Bousman has had his sights set on both the Leprechaun franchise and Flowers In The Attic for some time now, but why haven’t his wishes been honored yet? Or better yet, why were they written off? Instead of giving Bousman the reigns in terms of full rights to remake/reboot the properties how he sees fit, both projects were optioned to different creative teams. WWE and director Zach Lipovsky gave us last year’s abysmal Leprechaun: Origins, while Lifetime is now on their Fourth Flowers In The Attic movie. I don’t claim to know the Hollywood game, but still, given the status of both projects, one has to ask – what the fuck?
Let’s start with Bousman’s take on Leprechaun, a franchise near and dear to the deviant filmmaker’s heart. Instead of giving the rights to the man behind...

Even though you’re probably searching for redemption after last year’s disastrous reboot of the Leprechaun franchise, don’t assume Gnome Alone will provide the cheeky pint-sized fun that Dylan Postl and company failed to deliver. Copying the Celtic horror franchise almost verbatim, directors Timothy Woodward Jr. and John Michael Elfers enlist Mini-Me himself to play a pervy little gnome who lusts for blood and timely death-related zingers (sound familiar?).
Unfortunately, there’s no horror to be found as Verne Troyer hobbles around dressed like an angry lawn ornament, barely standing up to your kneecap, but a few genuine laughs are available for those who love a good tongue-in-cheek death scene oozing with B-Movie antics. It’s certainly nowhere near as horrid as Leprechaun: Origins, but then again, that’s like comparing apples to rotting, festering oranges covered in mold, flies, and shit – Anything would be better. Well, Gnome Alone is your Anything.

The WWE has had some success with their chosen films, especially horror. See No Evil was entertaining enough No One Lives, The Call and Oculus also showed that they had an eye for quality and weren’t afraid to take a few risks. There’s no doubt in my mind that Leprechaun: Origins will go down as 2014′s most insulting horror movie, and no, I don’t mean “insulting” in terms of gratuitous violence, blatant misogyny or any other true offenses. Instead, Zach Lipovsky’s carbon-copy creature feature is a slap in the face to horror fans everywhere, promising the rise of WWE star Dylan “Hornswoggle” Postl as one of horror’s most recognizable franchise faces.
Every ounce of Warwick Davis’ enigmatic portrayal is stripped in favor of a crude, costumed monster without any humanistic traits, ignoring Everything that makes the original Leprechaun movies watchable – fully admitting a few sequels are proper shite. Despite quality, Davis’ gold-seeking psycho always keeps us engaged with a plethora of B-Movie zingers and goofy actions, but Postl’s faceless nature doesn’t permit for a repeat experience. On August 26th, WWE Studios is unleashing Leprechaun: Origins, their terrifying reboot of the popular Leprechaun franchise, on various VOD on Digital Platforms. Hours before the Leprechaun: Origins trailer debuted at Comic-Con, I sat down with a very excited Dylan Postl (aka WWE's Hornswoggle), the new actor slipping into the skin of the malevolent beast that kicked off a franchise with Leprechaun (starring Warwick Davis) and crashed and burned with Leprechaun: Back 2 Tha Hood in 2003. Over 10 years later, the series is getting rebooted under the direction of Zach Lipovsky and Postl is very eager to spread the word on the project which he says will defy expectations.

WWE Studios has released a promo image of the evil leprechaun creature from their upcoming film Leprechaun: Origins. I guess even leprechauns need an origin story. The studio revealed the image at Comic-Con this week, and it doesn't look like any kind of leprechaun I've ever seen before. Personally, I think it looks kind of ridiculous.
The story centers on "two young couples who while backpacking through Ireland, discover a town’s chilling secret inside an old cabin at the edge of the woods." Of course the monstrous-looking leprechaun is going to put them through hell.
The movie was directed by Zach Lipovsky, and it stars Dylan Postl, who is also known as WWE wrestler “Hornswoggle.” Brendan Fletcher, Teach Grant, Andrew Dunbar, Stephanie Bennett, and Melissa Roxburgh also star.
The movie will be released on VOD and Digital HD platforms on August 26th, and Blu-ray and DVD on September 30th.

One of the smaller reveals at Comic-Con was yesterday’s look at Leprechaun: Origins, the new WWE-branded reboot of those terrible films where Warwick Davis would put on a hokey green Halloween costume and murder teens, Irish folklore, and good taste. For the eighth film in a franchise taken seriously by no one, ever, Leprechaun‘s offering of a trailer and poster weren’t gonna cut it; not when Christopher Nolan could descend at any moment and whisper, “Spaaaaaaace,” inciting mass panic in the streets. So Leprechaun: Origins upped its game the only way it could: revealing the yet-to-be-revealed design of its new, Hornswoggle Leprechaun. And for those who just asked, “What’s a Hornswoggle?,” he’s a WWE wrestler (real name: Dylan Postl) who happens to be a dwarf, and also happens to wrestle in a leprechaun outfit, because the WWE is where good taste is body-slammed until it is dead. The...

Well, now here’s something I had entirely forgotten about. In the grand Hollywood tradition of rebooting everything that has been made in the past twenty years, it’s somehow no surprise that they hit upon the “beloved” Leprechaun franchise as a potential straight-to-vod pot o’gold. That’s what WWE Studios are banking on with Leprechaun: Origins, the “serious” reboot that will have you checking your box of Lucky Charms very carefully.
Comic-Con being the place for these things, WWE revealed the look of the Leprechaun at its recent panel. The little dude is looking a tad the worse for wear since the days of Warwick Davis in creepy make-up. Wrestler-turned-actor Dylan Postl (better known to WWE fans as “Hornswoggle”) appears to be channeling a mini-orc in his portrayal of the character who terrorizes two young couples backpacking through Ireland. This is not your grandmother’s Leprechaun.

It has been well over a year and a half since the Leprechaun reboot prequel was announced and since then we have been given a clip and a first trailer, but we had not yet had even a glimpse of Dylan Postl (Aka Hornswaggle) as the titular character. Well, that has all changed. Lionsgate and WWE have released this official image and a new trailer. But they are a bit confusing:
The reason I say the new design is confusing is that Postl and director Zach Lipovsky have been making the rounds down in Comic con and telling everyone that, while darker and scarier than its predecessors, this is the origin story for the Leprechaun portrayed by Warwick Davis. So that begs the question, how does what looks like the love child of Pumpkinhead and Sam reconcile, both in appearance and behavior, with the little guy we know from 6 previous films?...

Leprechaun: Origins: We've had a peek at the movie but not its most iconc character -- until now. The first look at the titular creature in Leprechaun: Origins reveals that the reboot has taken a very dark and sinister turn away from the more lighthearted installments in the series. Dylan Postle, aka WWE wrestler Hornswoggle, stars as the leprechaun; the movie hits VOD platforms on August 26. [Variety] Adam Jones: Uma Thurman is joining the cast of Adam Jones, formerly titled Chef. Bradley Cooper stars as as ambitious chef "known for his wild style and creating explosions of taste." A WWE and Lionsgate panel was present at Comic-Con last night touting their upcoming projects 'See No Evil 2' and their 'Leprechaun' franchise reboot 'Leprechaun Origins'. The project from director Zach Lipovsky will be unleashed onto VOD from 26 August and will see a DVD and Blu-ray release just over a month later. WWE's Hornswoggle (Dylan Postl) has snared the iconic little guy role from Warwick Davis ('Life's Too Short') and from this new first look teaser at the green bastard we can certainly see that he's been given an even more sinister makeover for his latest outing. Brendan Fletcher, Teach Grant, Andrew Dunbar, Stephanie Bennett, Bruce Blain and Adam Boys also star. Check out the new teaser below....

Comic-Con may be one of the biggest movie-related shindigs on the face of the planet, but it still makes space for some of life’s smaller—not to mention Irish-er—things. That’s in reference, of course, to Leprechaun: Origins, the horror reboot starring WWE wrestler Dylan “Hornswoggle” Postl as the titular Emerald Isle monster.
To mark today’s Leprechaun-featuring WWE Studios and Lionsgate panel at Comic-Con, EW is exclusively debuting a sequence from the film which boasts the first look at the new Leprechaun himself. At last year’s New York Comic-Con, Leprechaun: Origins director Zach Lipovsky described his movie as “terrifying.

Back in 2012, Lionsgate made the surprise announcement that, as part of its beautiful new friendship with WWE Studios, it was developing a reboot of the mind-boggling Leprechaun franchise. VFX veteran Zach Lipovsky was placed in the director's chair a year later, and this being a WWE project it transpired that it was all being set up as a vehicle for diminutive wrestler Dylan "Hornswoggle" Postl. And now, from the halls of Comic-Con, comes the first promo image for Leprechaun: Origins, showcasing a shadowed Lep in profile in a leafy graveyard. He doesn't look very much like Warwick Davis anymore...If you're new here, the original Leprechaun came out in 1993, starring Davis as the titular murderous imp (mad as hell about being swizzed out of his Lucky Charms gold), and providing a pre-Friends starring role for Jennifer Aniston. It was released by Trimark, which Lionsgate swallowed in 2000.It spawned an amazing...

During the Sdcc we had a chance to get the skinny on WWE's Leprechaun: Origins, starring WWE Supertstar Dylan "Hornswoggle" Postl. Read on for the scoop from Dylan and director Zach Lipovsky.
"For me the biggest and coolest challenge was that Leprechauns aren't something that people are generally frightened by," Lipovsky (pictured) tells us of the character and his idea for how the film should play out.
"We asked ourselves, can we do something that would be legitimately scary for people, and if so, what would that look like? Anything was on the table so that was really fun. It was fun to come on to the project and make it something that honors the mythology and is iconic and be totally fresh with our approach. We looked into making the origin story of a creature that maybe thousands of years ago the Celtics met in a cave or something that was really scary.

What the hell is a WeeLC match, you may ask. Well, I asked the same damn thing. Is it a match in which combatants can use chairs, ladders and urine to defeat their opponents? No, it isn’t, though that sure would have been a spectacle. The WeeLC match is WWE’s way of amusing itself with puns. This is a midget TLC match in which no holds are barred.

One is small, swift, and sinister, and the other is towering, menacing, and brutal. You wouldn’t want to run into either one. When it comes to WWE stars and their relations, you can split any single wrestler up into three distinct categories. First, there are those who are very publicly related; think The Hardy Boyz, or even Chavo and Eddie Guerrero, for example. We all know they’re linked by blood, and the WWE won’t let us forget it either.
The next category is a rather comedic one; wrestlers who the WWE try to make us believe are related, but we all know they aren’t. For instance, who really thought that Hornswoggle was indeed Vince McMahon’s secret son? For reference, Hornswoggle isn’t related to Fit Finlay, either. Another prime example is of course Kane and The Undertaker – sorry to disappoint younger (or more gullible) readers, but they aren’t brothers.

Per the press release below, the film will be available on demand on August 26.

A reboot of campy horror flick "Leprechaun" has been in the works for a while now, and at long last, the film has a trailer.
In the first promo for "Leprechaun: Origins," a young group of friends touring the remote Irish countryside get more than they bargain for when they venture into a quaint village and are promptly terrorized by the film's titular mystical -- and in this case, murderous -- creature. While viewers don't get a clear look at the leprechaun (played by WWE star Hornswoggle), his presence certainly seems meant to appear more menacing than that of the original "Leprechaun," played by Warwick Davis.
Indeed, the trailer promises that "a horror icon will be reborn," and based on all the screaming and panicked expressions, things certainly seem darker than the leprechaun we last saw in 2000's "Leprechaun: In the Hood," which co-starred Ice-t.

This is a statement that probably sounds like utter lunacy to some, but I’ve been dying to see the first trailer for Leprechaun: Origins ever since the project was originally announced. Why would one be so excited about WWE’s attempt to bring glory and honor to one of horror’s more, um, interesting villains? Simple – Leprechaun is a classic horror film as long as we ignore the slew of absolutely atrocious sequels, as Warwick Davis turned a creature wearing a green tuxedo into something scary, hilarious, and undeniably entertaining. The Leprechaun holds a special place in my gold-encrusted heart, so I’ve been dying to see how Dylan Postl (WWE’s Hornswoggle) would embody the cunning killer – but unfortunately this first trailer doesn’t offer much in the evil leprechaun department.
