'Avengers' Director Joss Whedon: Hero Of The Week

10 May 2012 8:12 AM, PDT | MTV Splash Page | See recent MTV Splash Page news »

Joss Whedon is our hero of the week. There should be no question as to why. Against all odds, the “Buffy” and “Firefly” mastermind brought us the “Avengers” film fans have been dreaming about for years—decades, really. Getting Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and the rest of their superhero pals to work together on the big screen is no easy feat, but Whedon pulled it off and made box office history along the way. Not too shabby, guy!

In case you need more reasons as to why Whedon is our hero of the week—hero status that lasts a whole lot longer than a week, if we’re being honest—then read on!

» Without Whedon directing “Avengers,” we wouldn’t have gotten hilariously random cameos from Enver Gjokaj and Alexis Denisof, among other Whedonesque actors.

» Loki has an army. We have a Hulk—a Hulk who works fantastically. Credit »

Will Nathan Fillion Appear as Ant-Man In the Secret Final Scene for The Avengers?

18 April 2012 2:00 PM, PDT | ScifiMafia | See recent ScifiMafia news »

There have been rumors, speculation and hope from fans all over the world that Nathan Fillion (Castle, Firefly) would be cast in a superhero movie. First, he lost out on the role of Hal Jordan in the big-screen adaptation of Green Lantern, and then our hopes were squashed when Fillion himself stated that he wouldn’t be starring in the Edgar Wright written and directed Ant-Man, or portraying the hero in The Avengers.

Now, there’s some new fuel to feed the Fillion fire! First, at the Worldwide premiere of The Avengers, Robert Downey Jr. and Mark Ruffalo said that they were going to shoot one final scene for the film, the day after the world premiere.

Then came this tweet from Ant-Man writer/director Edgar Wright:

Was just back behind the camera for the first time in nearly two years. Can’t say on what, but it was cool… »

Joss Whedon's Buffy spin-off Ripper could still happen, under a different name

18 April 2012 8:46 AM, PDT | Shadowlocked | See recent Shadowlocked news »

In an excellent interview with The Av Club, covering topics as diverse as The Cabin in the Woods, The Avengers, spoilers, horror movies, ironic detachment, and fan expectations, Joss Whedon teased the possibility of the long-rumoured Ripper spin-off, featuring Anthony Stewart Head’s Giles character from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, finally happening. Except it seems it wouldn’t be an official spin-off (probably due to rights issues), but rather (presumably) a very similar project to what was originally intended.

“No, the thing about Ripper—the essence of it—is that the BBC came to me at one point like, “It doesn’t have to be Ripper. It can just be [Anthony Stewart Head], and there’s magic, and he’s Tony, cuz he’s awesome.””

This tells us two awesome things: 1) The BBC talks like Joss Whedon, and 2) there might still be hope for the project to actually happen at some point.

Dollhouse's Enver Gjokaj “unable to confirm or deny” being in The Avengers

16 April 2012 11:12 PM, PDT | Shadowlocked | See recent Shadowlocked news »

As we reported earlier, the fan favourite Dollhouse actor Enver Gjokaj has just joined Twitter, and he’s already interacting with fans and providing interesting answers to their questions. And when asked about his possible involvement in The Avengers, given that there’s someone who looks like him in the trailer, he only replied “unable to confirm or deny. Dying to see it.”

While his eagerness to see the movie is no doubt shared by millions of fans around the world who are waiting for the release date, exacerbated by the infuriatingly positive reports coming from preview screenings (Why does time move so slowly?), it’s the first half of the tweet that’s most intriguing.

Well, there is someone who looks a lot like him in the trailer, but then again he does have a twin brother, Demir Gjokaj

And his Dollhouse co-star Felicia Day has teased secret cameos in The Avengers. »

Dollhouse's Enver Gjokaj joins Twitter, calls Gene Hackman best actor ever

16 April 2012 5:22 PM, PDT | Shadowlocked | See recent Shadowlocked news »

Just minutes ago, Dollhouse's Enver Gjokaj joined Twitter (@EnverGjokaj), amassing several hundred followers so far. The versatile and talented actor quickly gained a devoted fan following for his performance(s) on the show, and thus it's unsurprising that Twitter has greeted him with enthusiasm.

One fan expressed the sentiment, not uncommon among Dollhouse fans, that Enver Gjokaj is the "best actor ever", to which Enver replied "that would be Gene Hackman Imo".

Gene Hackman is a great actor, but can he play the nerdy, excitable Topher Brink as brilliantly as Enver Gjokaj did? And that wasn't even Enver's (main) character in Dollhouse...

But Enver needn't give up the possibility of surpassing his favourite actor Gene Hackman just yet. After all, “every day is a chance to be better…”

They used to say that you couldn’t turn on the TV without a Gene Hackman movie being on one of the channels. »

Morning Meme: Madonna Wants Another Kiss From Britney, Ryan Gosling May Not Have Been Heroic, and Enver Gjokaj Wrestles With "Frenemies"

6 April 2012 5:15 AM, PDT | AfterElton.com | See recent AfterElton.com news »

In regards to my visit to Washington & Lee University for the debate between Maggie Gallagher and Andrew Sullivan, I'm still digesting. It was great to get together with Dennis though, we really never see each other, and we're not even sure that snicks is a real person or just a 1980s model computer. As far as the debate, held in the Lee Chapel over the crypt, Maggie didn't really seem on her best game and was all over the place with an admittedly polite but hostile audience. Sullivan made a wonderfully personal case for marriage equality being the conservative ideal for finding a way to bring a new disruption into the constructs of a society without destabilizing it.

But Dennis and I spent about a half hour talking to Maggie at the reception, just us. She's articulate, and there really isn't anything "mean" about her positions. I don't agree with »

Watch: Hollywood's Douchiest Two Agents Are At It Again

5 April 2012 10:13 AM, PDT | Huffington Post | See recent Huffington Post news »

Hollywood's douchiest agents are at it again in "Frenemies - Round 2, New Guy" the second video in a webseries about two industry insiders and their competitive friendship.

Writers Brian Henderson and Enver Gjokaj star as "assh*le" and "d*ckhead" agents Rick and Todd. The two square off over who gets to take the office's newest employee out to lunch -- despite not knowing his name, what he likes to eat, or anything else about him.

"I was just going to go to sushi with, uh.. " Gjokaj trails off.

"Really, sushi? Because I was going to go get steaks with, uh..." responds Henderson. The brinksmanship escalates into traded barbs about weight and body type (a very touchy subject in Hollywood), lies about high school athletic achievements and ends in a wrestling match on the floor.

Like their first film, "Frenemies - Round 1: Power Lunch" the video closes with another foodie face-off, »

Felicia Day hints at secret cameos in The Avengers

4 April 2012 12:17 PM, PDT | Shadowlocked | See recent Shadowlocked news »

In a recent event to promote her new YouTube channel, Geek and Sundry (an event which was, incidentally, the largest-scale Google + Hangout that there’s been so far), web series queen Felicia Day (The Guild, Dragon Age: Redemption) briefly addressed her friend Joss Whedon’s upcoming superhero flick The Avengers, saying: “I know a couple of people in it, but some of them might be spoilers so I really can’t say.”

This could mean that The Avengers features Awesome Secret Surprise Cameos, or just that, in order to avoid spoilers, Felicia Day’s erring on the safe side. But for the purposes of crazed fanboy speculation, we shall assume the former, and hope for cameos as brilliant as those in The Muppets.

[Casting speculation spoilers follow.]

Having played roles in the Joss Whedon productions Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Dollhouse, and Doctor Horrible’s Sing-a-Long Blog, Felicia Day knows quite a few Whedon alums, »
