When director Chad Stahelski began work on the fourth “John Wick” movie, his ambition was to create an action epic in the mode of Sergio Leone’s “The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly.” That meant that by the time the film got to its climactic set piece — a spectacular chase scene involving muscle cars racing around the Arc de Triomphe — that set piece had to live up to every previous action sequence in the franchise.
Second unit director and stunt coordinator Scott Rogers, who was responsible for all the car material in “John Wick: Chapter Four,” had a simple guiding principle to motivate the complicated choreography: “It’s what’s happening in the car that makes what’s happening outside of the car interesting,” he told IndieWire.

It looks as though the Us version of the Top Gear TV show on History has been cancelled after six seasons. Based on the BBC series of the same name (which airs on BBC America in the States), History's Top Gear is hosted by Tanner Foust, Adam Ferrara, and Rutledge Wood. Via social media, Wood shared that the Tuesday, June 28 episode (tomorrow's) of Top Gear is the last episode produced.
While Wood thinks the show could still continue somewhere, his remarks make it sound as though he is certain Top Gear has completed its final lap on History. He said, in part, "I don't think the show is done, it appears that it's done with our friends at History, and we're incredibly grateful for being a part of the A&E Networks family."

Despite winding people up wherever they roam, Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond actually made the biggest show in the world, with Top Gear apparently boasting 350 million viewers in 214 countries.
Top Gear may have a very British sense of humour, but this hasn't stopped several nations launching their own versions.

Forget everything you’ve heard about video games promoting violent behavior in individuals. If you ask us, Hot Wheels is a far more dangerous culprit in terms of instilling reckless behavior; at least in the case of the following video. Filmed at the 2012 X Games in Los Angeles, drivers Tanner Foust and Greg Tracy attempted a real-life version of the popular Hot Wheels “loop track” that many of us recall playing with as children. Believe it or not, this isn’t the first time that such a stunt as been done, but the 66-foot tall loop featured at this year’s X Games effectively broke the previous 42-foot tall loop record held by Chinese driver Li Yatao back in September 2011.

What better way to arrive at the Emmy Awards than in your very own limo that you've designed and built yourself?
That's exactly what the "Top Gear" (Tues., 9 p.m. Et on History) team did Tuesday night, and they not only raced each other there, they also dragged some nervous-looking celebs along for the ride.
Glamazon Terri Seymour had to share a ride with Rutledge Wood in his old jalopy masquerading as a stretch Vw Rabbit pick-up. "I'm not going to have to drive, am I?" she asked anxiously.
Meanwhile, "DWTS" judge Bruno Tonioli was paired with Tanner Foust in a much more impressive looking ride: a 1987 stretch Corvette (in red, natch). However, judging from Tonioli's pleas to be let out and his shrieks every time they hit a bump, it wasn't a smooth ride.
"That was like the Titanic hitting an iceberg," Tonioli said of one particularly ferocious encounter with a pothole.

The "Top Gear" (Tue., 9 p.m. Est on History) team became the first people to cross the continental divide on a mule trail, and their vehicle of choice was the humble minivan.
As they navigated through a treacherously narrow pass in the Colorado Rocky Mountains, convoy leader Tanner Foust ran into trouble. His minivan got stuck on the edge of a cliff.
The first sign of danger was when Tanner noticed that "the back end is trying to slip off the freaking cliff right now."
As he urged his minivan on he became firmly stuck. He couldn't drive forward, but couldn't reverse either because his rear tires were inches from the edge.
Eventually his co-hosts Rutledge Wood and Adam Ferrara joined forces to push him on with their minivans.
As the trio completed their epic drive a jubilant Adam announced: "We have crossed the continental divide! In minivans!"

As I'm sure everyone knows, Top Gear made the trip across the pond, and as much as it may seem odd to say, given the nature of the beast, it's one of the better efforts at taking a show from The UK and "Americanizing" it. Fans of the original took to the show immediately, and new recruits found something to love.
There is something unique and special about the variety found in the show, and every episode takes viewers on a wild ride, but you're never sure exactly what you're going to get.
It was certainly a tricky move, considering the fanbase the original show has built over the years, and nothing could be more important than the selection of hosts. Adam Ferrara, Tanner Foust, and Rutledge Wood seem to have come together to form the perfect group, combining the fun, knowledge, and atmosphere of the original surprisingly well.

Apparently Tuesday night should be temporarily renamed Gordon Ramsay night for the time being, because there are three shows hosted by the foul-mouthed Brit airing tonight. Two of them are on Fox, one of them is on Bbca and one of the ones on Fox ("Masterchef") directly competes with the one one Bbca ("Gordon Ramsay's Great Escape"). I'm completely impressed that the man has managed to create this kind of media empire out of being kind of a salty British chef (and really, is there any other kind? I think 'salty' applies to all chefs, regardless of nationality). I know he won't be the reigning favorite celebrity chef around these parts unless Anthony Bourdain forswears television, but I guess he's not a bad back-up. Here's your Tuesday night TV:

The Emmy race for best reality program has been led in recent years by winners like "Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List," "Intervention" and "Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution," but there's a zippy new contender aiming to zoom up front: "Top Gear." That's the U.S. spin-off of the hit British auto show that's syndicated around the globe and currently spinning its irreverent wheels on the History Channel, which has renewed it for a second season. It stars three frisky guys – a racing analyst (Rutledge Wood), pro race driver (Tanner Foust), and resident rascal comic (Adam Ferrara) – in the drivers' seats of lots of vehicles that they test: luxury cars, race cars, pickup trucks, all-terrain vehicles. Celebrities like Dominic Monaghan, Kid Rock and Ty Burrell often go along for the ride and everything gets revved up high, especially the snarky commentary that proves that getting there is more than half the fun.

"Top Gear" fans, start your engines: The stylish (and popular) British import is getting a second season on History Channel. The U.S. car series, which was adapted from the BBC show, will retain its co-hosts, comedian Adam Ferrara, champion rally/drift racer Tanner Foust and racing analyst Rutledge Wood. The renewal isn't terribly surprising. The series debut of "Top Gear" last November pulled in nearly 2 million viewers. The second season of "Top Gear" will begin production this spirng, as a co-production between History and BBC Worldwide, History said.

Tanner Foust has suggested that viewers should not compare the Us version of Top Gear to the UK original. The presenter, who hosts the motoring series alongside Adam Ferrara and Rutledge Wood, told the Futon Critic that the programme "doesn't really try to copy" the BBC version. History's version will be hosted by comedian and actor Adam Ferrara of 'Rescue Me,' stunt driver Tanner Foust, and racing analyst Rutledge Wood.

Adam Ferrara in a Ferrari? It will happen I believe. And this is a very good thing. The comic who shined for several seasons on FX's "Rescue Me" as Chief "Needles" Nelson, has found a new smallscreen home with History and BBC Worldwide Productions for a Us version of Top Gear. The series, which showcases an offbeat celebration of automobiles and driving, is set to premiere this fall 2010, and will be hosted by comedian and car buff Ferrara, champion rally and drift racer Tanner Foust and racing analyst Rutledge Wood. The three gents will interview octogenarian Energizer Bunny Astronaut Buzz Aldrin; Tim Allen, Ty Burrell, skateboarder Tony Hawk; Musician Bret Michaels; Dominic Monaghan, Musician Kid Rock...

Every fan of BBC's insanely popular and perfect 'Top Gear' knows that the reason it's the most successful car show is because it's not about cars.
Audiences couldn't care less about whether or not Jeremy Clarkson quoted the correct engine displacement for the McLaren F1 or if a Koeningsegg Ccr can go from 0 to 100 mph in 8 seconds (it's 7.9, actually). What makes the show so great and entertaining is that it's really about fun. It isn't, as Jezza once said, what you drive, but how you drive it.
The History Channel is giving America a 'Top Gear' of its own, starring Adam Ferrara, Tanner Foust and Rutledge Wood, and the first trailer for the U.S. version hit the web earlier this week. Check out the trailer and a brief gut reaction after the jump.

A trailer for the U.S. version of "Top Gear" was played during History's presentation at the Television Critics Association tour on Friday, August 6. This is an adaptation of the successful BBC series where a secret race driver will test vehicles and celebrities will be invited for interviews and to drive vehicles around a test track.
In the American version, comedian Adam Ferrara, professional racing driver Tanner Foust and roving racing analyst Rutledge Wood are the hosts. Apart from Foust, Ferrara and Wood are actually not the original line-up when NBC picked up the show and shot the pilot for Fall 2009 line-up. Adam Carolla was in Ferrara's position while Eric Strommer was in Wood's.

I felt the roar and pop of mighty engines, vibrations rising up through the floor and settling deep in the pit of my gut. A great brown cloud rose from the track, specks stinging my eyes as I squinted to see the action, dirt covering my jeans and sweater. I could feel the grit between my teeth, which were exposed in a broad, jubilant grin.
I was at X Games 16 and it was awesome.
A dozen yards in front of me, Super Rally competitor Tanner Foust was twisting his cranking his car through a series of victory donuts, celebrating having just won a gold medal. Maybe.
Actually, none of the spectators gathered in the L.A. Memorial Coliseum knew who had won and even the event's announcers were unsure whether to declare frontrunner Foust the winner.
Those at home watching the race on Espn may have even been more confused.

The gearheads of the world rejoiced when NBC put a bullet in the back of the head of a planned remake of the classic British car show 'Top Gear.'
And who can blame them? First of all, this is NBC we're talking about, a network that would pull a show off-the air five minutes into its premiere episode if the ratings didn't please "Darth Zucker." Plus, 'Top Gear' isn't just an institution to gear junkies and "petrolheads." It's one of the most accessible and hilarious shows on television. Even if you drive a used 2001 Pontiac Sunfire and subsequently know nothing about good cars, you can still enjoy it just as much as the octane-brain who takes a brand new Gumpert Apollo to work.
Now The History Channel is taking a crack at rebuilding the show's stalled engine from scratch. I say give it a chance. Anything...

I'm not trying to cheat my way out of full-length coverage this morning, but there has been a lot of smaller things we haven't covered this week in movies and TV that you should be apprised of. Here's some random tidbits from the television world.
NBC picked up "Parenthood" for a second season. I'm pretty ecstatic about this (it was around number 12 on my Ten Best Shows on TV list). The short review: Peter Krause is phenomenal; the story lines are emotional but not overpowering; and Dax Shepard, actually, is one of the show's many highlights.
ABC will be re-airing the "Lost" pilot on May 22nd, the night before the series finale. Moreover, the two-hour finale on Sunday May 23rd will be preceded by a two-hour pre-show. That's four hours of "Lost."
Here's some fantastic schadenfreude: In the demographic that matters (18-49), last week Jay Leno slipped lower than Conan O'Brien's numbers.

It's been years in the making, but yesterday the History Channel announced that it will be the home of the American version of the hit British show, Top Gear. You can still watch the original (and always, best) version of the show on BBC America, but people who actually watch for the car stuff will surely be pleased to see reviews of cars that are available to buy and drive in this country (Top Gear traditionally hates American-made cars and refuses to review them. Also, they think we're all fat).
An American Top Gear has been kicked around for the past few years -- most recently in 2008 there was an attempt to bring it to NBC with hosts Adam Carolla, some guy named Eric Stromer who drove a freaking hybrid and so should never have been considered let alone given the job, and Tanner Foust, a stunt driver. NBC eventually...

Plus, it's a big day for birthdays, Kelly Cutrone is impatient, American Top Gear ready to roll, Alex O'Laughlin's ... talents, and Neil Patrick Harris' Beastly quips.
On the off chance that anyone at Cartoon Network reads anything I write, I want to go on record as opposing their upcoming programming choices. Not only are you putting live-action programming on something called “Cartoon Network” you also bust out this sentence, which is as close to blasphemy as you can get: “The network also announced that coming later in the year would be an all-new re-imagined version of the Warner Bros animated classic shorts, Looney Tunes.”
Also departing from the title of their network, History Channel is set to premiere their version of Top Gear with Adam Ferrara, Tanner Foust and Rutledge Wood.

Vroom, vroom. That sound you hear? It's American audiences getting ready for the arrival of 'Top Gear.' That's right, the popular British show about all-things automotive, is headed across the pond to the History channel.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, History is teaming with BBC World Productions for at least 10 episodes this fall.
The show will be hosted by 'Rescue Me' co-star Adam Ferrara (pictured), stunt driver Tanner Foust and analyst Rutledge Wood. The American show, much like the British program, will feature all aspects of automotive love, including customization, stunts, reviews and celebrity interviews.

NBC announced Monday morning what listeners to Adam Carolla's radio show have known for a while: The comedian will host the broadcaster's adaptation of the BBC's "Top Gear".
Carolla will join drift racer Tanner Foust and TV construction guru Eric Stromer as the show's presenters. "Gear" targets auto enthusiasts and mixes racing, stunts, challenges and celebrity guests.
NBC announced the show as a pilot in the winter, but the project has not yet been added to the network's year-round schedule, which was unveiled in May. The network sees "Gear" as potentially attracting lucrative automotive advertising, having previously made high-profile product-placement deals with automakers such as Nissan ("Heroes"), GM ("My Own Worst Enemy"), Ford ("Knight Rider") and Honda ("Last Comic Standing").
"This franchise is a proven winner worldwide and the hosting team of Adam, Tanner and Eric that we have brought together for the U.S. version offers a perfect match of humor, insider know-how and priceless track experience," said Craig Plestis, executive vp alternative programming at NBC.
