David Baddiel brought out an agenda-shifting new documentary called Jews Don’t Count on Monday night (21 November), and it’s kept people talking ever since.
In the show, which aired on Channel 4, the author and comedian argues that antisemitism isn’t considered to be as unacceptable as other forms of discrimination, even among those who are vocal in their support of other minority groups.
Stars including David Schwimmer, Stephen Fry, Sarah Silverman and Miriam Margolyes talk to Baddiel on camera about their experiences of antisemitism in the documentary, which is a follow-up to Baddiel’s 2021 book of the same title.
Many have been praising the programme on Twitter, with actor Eddie Marsan writing: “#jewsdontcount the original book by @Baddiel was absolutely fascinating and the @Channel4 documentary tonight was just as enlightening. Heartbreaking to see my old mate @andynyman sharing the difficulty he’s faced but his last exchange with David was hilarious.

Former Britain’s Got Talent star Jonathan Goodwin has reflected on the stunt that left him paralysed.
In October 2021, Goodwin performed an escapology stunt in which he planned to remove a straight jacket while hung upside down between two suspended cars 30 feet in the air.
The cars, however, were released prematurely and Goodwin was crushed between them.
His fiancée, Sherlock star Amanda Abbington, revealed the news on the podcast Out to Lunch with Jay Rayner, stating: “He fell 30 feet and lost a kidney, broke both shoulder blades, shattered both legs. Third degree burns, broke his spine and severed his spinal cord and nearly died. And then on the operating table, he nearly died again.”
She added: “He’s paralysed now, he’s in a wheelchair. Unless there’s a kind of stem cell surgery or that thing that Elon Musk is designing with the little chip, he’ll be like that forever.

Updated, 4:30 Am: UK grime artist and rapper Wiley, who prompted outrage last week with a series of anti-Semitic social media posts, has been permanently banned from Twitter. Yesterday, Facebook and its service Instagram also deleted accounts owned by the musician, real name Richard Cowie.
Twitter today also apologized for a delay in its action in combating the offensive messages.
“Upon further investigation, our teams have permanently suspended the account in question for repeated violations of our hateful conduct policy. Let us be clear: hateful conduct has absolutely no place on our service and we strongly condemn antisemitism. We are sorry we did not move faster and are continuing to assess the situation internally,” said the service.
UK national The Guardian also came in for criticism today when, in an opinion piece related to the Wiley story, it used a picture of rapper Kano. The paper has since updated the article with a new image.

There were a lot of special moments throughout Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's wedding ceremony, but the one that's proving most popular is the gorgeous rendition of the song "Stand by Me," performed by Karen Gibson and The Kingdom Choir. The cover of the 1961 classic by Ben E. King was the moment when everyone watching at home (and the guests in St. George's Chapel in Windsor Castle) started to get choked up.
The Kingdom Choir is a Christian gospel group based in South East London made up of 20 singers. It's been going strong for 20 years, and the song was a huge hit with Twitter:
Imma let you finish but the Royal Wedding rendition of Stand By Me is one of the most beautiful performances of all time

Michael Winner, who has died aged 77, will be missed terribly by the restaurant world, says Jay Rayner
Michael Winner was not as other restaurant critics. The fact was, he didn't really give a toss about the food, as long as it wasn't too demanding or showy. For him it was about the room and the service. Most of all it was about Michael Winner, and whether he was having an utterly terrific time. He was Mr Toad of The Wind in The Willows made flesh. And how could you not like Mr Toad?
Over the years people would rage about his column in the Sunday Times. What, they asked, did the man know about gastronomy? Not much, to be fair. But that's to misunderstand the job. Restaurant critics aren't there to sell restaurants. They are there to sell newspapers, and he did that very well indeed, mostly by giving people...

Famously foul-mouthed British chef Gordon Ramsay recently opened the latest piece of his restaurant empire, Bread Street Kitchen, in London. Dinner for two worked out to £120.
Food critic Jay Rayner reviewed the place for The Guardian and was less than impressed. "Look, my editor said, if you really love it you can have two pages. Otherwise we'll make it a single. Welcome, then, to my one-page review of Gordon Ramsay's new restaurant. To be frank Bread Street Kitchen is the kind of place only its mother could really love."
Rayner describes the restaurant as an adolescent, still working to find its stride. "It's hard to make allowances for this sort of adolescent when the bill hits £120 for two, as it does here."
Hard to disagree with that. Read the whole review here. ...

It's hotter in the kitchen this time around on Top Chef Masters.
In Wednesday's third season premiere, three of the 12 master cheftestants will fail to complete their Quickfire dishes (failures made all the more painful because the chefs are paired off in head-to-head combat). The group is then immediately hit with a round of Restaurant Wars.
Bringing out the contestants' competitive edge is just part of an overall revamp to the Top Chef spin-off, which arrives following viewership declines between the first and second seasons (2.2 million viewers vs. 1.6 million). Gone are host Kelly Choi, critics Gael Greene and Jay Rayner, the five-star rating scale and the tournament-style elimination. The masters are still playing for charity but, by design, they'll feel more...

Michael Winterbottom, the British film director who made Welcome to Sarajevo and 24 Hour Party People – and was criticised for his controversial 9 Songs and this summer's The Killer Inside Me – has turned to English food for his next project.
The award-winning director is to bring an improvised sitcom to BBC2 in September purporting to tell the story of the working life of the Observer's restaurant critic, played by the comedian Steve Coogan. Top Chef Masters sets itself apart from the regular Top Chef because it focuses more on the culinary aspect of things, normally doing without the backstabbing, the personality clashes, the tattoos and, to some viewers, the more "fun" parts, like going to the judges' table absolutely wasted.
'Top Chef Masters' Season 2 Lineup Revealed
With that in mind, Top Chef Masters season 2 kicked off last week with 22 new and not so new chefs, including six from the debut season. Along with Gael Greene, James Oseland, and Jay Rayner, Gail Simmons will be a regular judge, too. Finally, unlike season 1, the chefs won't be getting stars from the quickfire challenge. Instead, the winners will get $5,000 for their charities.

"Top Chef Masters 2" really turns up the heat with a slew of fun celebrity guests as well as returning chef'testants seeking redemption.
Among the guests will be the cast of "Modern Family" (perhaps a family style meal challenge?), "The Simpsons" creator Matt Groening (yellow food?), Hank Azaria who voices Moe and others on "The Simpsons," "Lie to Me" actor Mekhi Phifer, Olympic swimmer Jason Lezak and a trio of the "Real Housewives of Orange County," Lynne Curtin, Alexis Bellino and Tamra Barney, reports EW.
The site also lists Andrew Zimmerman as a guest, but since Wikipedia says Zimmerman is a professor of German history at George Washington University, we're going to guess that they meant Andrew Zimmern, host of Travel Channel's "Bizarre Foods." German food, while exotic to some and rich in history, probably isn't as challenging as what Zimmern will bring to the table. [Update: In a press release sent out Wednesday, Bravo confirmed Zimmern's participation.]
Now on to the chef'testants.

Tonight on Top Chef Masters, knives are drawn and the display of extraordinary talent begins in the most ordinary of places . like a grocery store, where the chefs are met with the classic quickfire "Aisle Trial" (a la Top Chef, season 3). Last week's action saw Chef Moonen.s brandade of scallop and shrimp dazzle the critics, as did Noren.s slow cooked salmon with chorizo and broccoli. Moonen.s lemon panna cotta was a sight to behold, which had Jay Rayner tell Kelly Choi that a perfect panna cotta .should wobble like a woman.s breast.. Last week's misses included a smoked tea whipped cream that judge James Oseland said tasted like bacon. Last week.s winner was Michael...

You're probably familiar with Bravo's Top Chef, the cooking competition show that has delivered great ratings to the network since the beginning, but now we're taking things up a notch. It's all big name chefs this time around, several of whom have been guest judges on the regular version of the show, and we're doing it all for charity. Our host for this excursion is Kelly Choi, creator and host of Eat Out NY, and we have some interesting (though possibly not so camera-friendly) judges. Gael Greene has been a food critic for longer than you want to know, but I'm not sure she adds a lot of zest to the show. Jay Rayner is a celebrated critic from Britain, and probably the show's only hope for a judge that's at all watchable. Finally, James Oseland is editor of Saveur magazine. In this version of the show, four of our...
