Jennifer Lopez was caught cuddling up with This Is Us star, Milo Ventimiglia. But no worries Alex Rodriguez, it was just for their upcoming flick Second Act.
In scenes shot on Nov. 6 in the Bronx, the singer, wearing a sexy off-the-shoulder athleisure sweater and camo pants, sits across from a mustached Ventimiglia, who sports long, slicked back hair and an olive green jacket, in a diner. Even as The Dark Knight approaches its tenth anniversary, Christopher Nolan’s unforgettable crime saga is still held up as a textbook example of a film that single-handedly raised the bar for its genre – the comic book movie, in this instance.
And though there are many parts that make up that the accomplished whole – the haunting score, the ensemble cast, the eternal struggle between good and evil…to name but three – Nolan’s modern classic owes a great deal to Heath Ledger, who delivered a performance for the ages as Gotham’s Clown Prince of Crime. However, in looking back on The Dark Knight with the benefit of hindsight, it becomes important to remember the vitriolic backlash that ensued soon after Ledger was cast as The Joker. Christopher Nolan knows a thing or two about taking a risk on casting. The filmmaker’s choice to cast Heath Ledger in the role of The Joker for “The Dark Knight” wasn’t exactly a universally beloved decision (this article from The Telegraph covers a lot of the hostile fan reactions). But Nolan knew Ledger was the perfect actor for the part, and the director’s gut instinct ended up giving the movies one of its most iconic performances ever.

Don’t let the ugly Italian poster art on the disc box throw you — The Internecine Project is a clever plot-driven murder tale in an espionage vein that gathers a string of B+ stars from the early 1970s for ninety minutes of suspense. Superman: American Alien #1 takes readers back to a time and place they’ve seen over and over again: the days of a young Clark Kent grappling with his powers on his family’s farm. However, the dynamism between Max Landis’s writing and Nick Dragotta’s art keep the story from becoming another retread of a young boy becoming Superman.
In the miniseries’s first issue, Clark floats (just like the characters from Landis’ film Chronicle). It doesn’t seem tied to a particular emotion or stimulus; Clark just floats with no control over how it starts, continues, or stops. As Superman’s publishing history shows, he’ll get a handle on this. But Landis and Dragotta take an interesting path getting to that point.

The Fire This Time 10-Minute Play Festival Kraine Theater 85 E. 4th St., NYC January 23-30, 2015
Very short plays are at their most effective when they enter into and add to an existing conversation, and the plays that comprise the Sixth Annual The Fire This Time Festival recognize this. The festival exists as “a platform for talented early-career playwrights of African and African American descent to … move beyond common ideas of what’s possible in ‘black theater’” to demonstrate that “[t]he African American experience is not represented solely by one voice or one style,” and the seven voices that stage these short pieces--this year each inspired by the photographs of Alex Harsley of the 4th Street Photo Gallery, just down the street from the theater and itself worth a visit--give expression to the diversity of the American experience of people of color in a way that is both particular and inextricable...

There are plenty of interesting new series to be on the lookout for, but many TV fans will be most excited about the return of some of television’s best offerings. Banshee Season 3
Created by Jonathan Tropper and David Schickler
Airs Fridays at 10pm (Et) on Cinemax
Premieres Jan. 9th, 2015
While The Knick established Cinemax as a new contender in the arena of high-quality television, it wasn’t the first show to give the channel that reputation, as the Alan Ball-produced Banshee has been steadily garnering attention for itself, and Cinemax by extension, over the course of its two seasons. The tale of a small Pennsylvania town, and the tensions that simmer underneath the surface, has used strong character work, well-plotted storylines, and memorable fight...

Jon Stewart as “Meet the Press” host would’ve been a terrible idea — unless he did “The Daily Show” on Sunday Jon Stewart is "a supplement, a commentator, throwing stinkbombs in from the outside,” says James Poniewozik. "To put him in that Beltway-priest, neutral-insider role would have been a joke, and not the ha-ha kind. On the other hand, if NBC were hiring Stewart to replace not just David Gregory, but the idea of 'Meet the Press' itself–to create, if not a copy, 'The Daily Show,' a seriously funny issues show with a point of view and an adversarial attitude that would roast not just the guests, but the culture of Washington–now that could have been something.” Plus: Jon Stewart is a terrible interviewer who would’ve been a terrible host, Stewart’s agent wouldn’t deny the "Meet the Press' report, and...

Well, for one, the title makes no sense. Earth to Echo might be the thing to call a sequel to this rather shameless mashup of E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial and The Goonies, but it refers to absolutely nothing here that we can see. Three tween pals in Nevada — Alex (Teo Halm), Tuck (Brian “Astro” Bradley), and Chunk Munch (Reese Hartwig) — set off on a mysterious treasure hunt directed by strange maps that appear on their cell phones and discover a tiny alien robot-creature they dub Echo (for how it echoes their voices) who needs their help to reassemble some sort of device so it can,...

Three young friends meet a robot alien in Earth To Echo. Here's Pete's review of a sweet yet uneven family film...
Some of the most memorable family films to come out of America in the 1980s told the stories of ordinary young children (often boys) flung into extraordinary scenarios. Movies such as E.T., The Goonies and Flight Of The Navigator captured our hearts and our imaginations, and have never truly let go of them.
This is particularly true for the makers of Earth To Echo, whose film is an unashamed homage to those beloved classics. It tells the story of three friends spending their final night together before leaving town. Having received mysterious signals on their mobile phones, and seeking one last adventure together, they get more than they bargained for when they find Echo, a small alien robot who needs their help if he is to find his way home.

Those polarising threats of a Goonies remake lose some of their power this week with the release of Earth to Echo. David Green’s bittersweet anthem for alienated youth is so profoundly in love with the 1983 classic that The Goonies could be credited as supporting cast. Yet the tender delivery of this adoration is such that the frequent nods to it are entirely forgivable. By acknowledging the singularly treacherous tightrope between childhood and adolescence with generosity, Earth to Echo forges a fresh path over this well trodden ground. This is jointly achieved by the guilelessness of the four young leads and the clever incorporation of social media as narrator.
Our Goonies are Alex, Tuck and Munch – The Mulberry Ballers Club. A trio of misfits in the Las Vegas ‘burbs, bonded by their exclusion from the in-crowd. Munch (Reese Hartwig) is Data 2.0 – techie, eccentric and unintentionally hilarious. Foster kid Alex (Teo Halm...

Earth to Echo
Directed by Dave Green
Written by Henry Gayden
USA, 2014
The new children’s film, Earth to Echo, wants to be a Millennial version of E.T., but it sacrifices emotion in favor of realism. The end result is a one-dimensional robot that will disappoint younger children, and a repetitive action story that will bore older kids. Its heart may be in the right place but there’s just not enough imagination or excitement to clear this movie for launch.
Earth to Echo’s premise is rooted in the two predominating traits of pre-adolescent boys; insecurity and recklessness. Insecurity plagues our three heroes, Tuck (Brian ‘Astro’ Bradley), Alex (Teo Halm) and Munch (Reese Hartwig), as a looming construction project threatens to uproot their entire town and separate them forever. When the three boys decipher a map-like signal embedded in their cellphones, it provides the perfect excuse for reckless rebellion...

Chicago – Oh those meddling kids, they can’t keep their noses out of anything, and for one lost space alien that’s a good thing. “Earth to Echo” is a wonderfully mastered combination of “found footage” composition and a Spielbergian-style encounter with an extra-terrestrial.
Rating: 3.5/5.0
This is an adventure aimed at the kids, but with enough heart, social commentary and nostalgia to satisfy their adult companions. It is the remarkable feature film debut of Dave Green, and the fact that it’s opening on a major holiday weekend speaks volumes for its subject matter and quality of the film. Green combines the camaraderie of intense childhood friendships with the modern technology they use today to pursue their E.T., and all of the clues make sense as they go about their discovery. For adult audiences, it’s about the long lost neighborhoods of as it all goes away, and the wonder...

Earth To Echo is a tale of friendship, fun, and doing the right thing… and the whole family will love it!
Tuck, Munch and Alex are best friends that are forced to move out of their neighborhood due to a highway that will be built over their homes… or so they’ve been told. After weird signals render their phones useless, the three decide to hit the road on their bikes for one final adventure. As Tuck documents their adventure on various cameras, the three discover a new friend from another planet, and a conspiracy to cover up any evidence of the alien life form. Together, these friends are on a mission to send their new friend home, even if it means breaking a few rules along the way.

One of the hardest things about the way this generation of filmmakers has internalized the movies that inspired them is that watching their movies can sometimes feel like you're reading a laundry list of the things that they saw when they were younger, rather than watching something where all of those influences have crystallized into something new. "Earth To Echo" could accurately be described as a "found-footage" riff on "Explorers" and "E.T.", and that description would certainly impart something of the film to someone. But the thing that "Earth To Echo" most accurately reflects from the best of the '80s movies that continue to linger with viewers, even 30 years after many of them first hit theaters, is that sense of something genuine about the kids. When I look at "E.T.", the first thing that strikes me as remarkable is just how right Spielberg got all of the kids in the film.

So it’s come to this. Earth to Echo has a trailer and it’s everything you have seen before. It’s a found footage movie for children that takes ingredients from better movies like E.T., Chronicle, Batteries Not Included, and even The Goonies. The alien itself looks like Eve from Wall-e right? I’m all for family adventure movies, but this isn’t bringing anything new to the table sadly.
Tuck, Munch and Alex are a trio of inseparable friends whose lives are about to change. Their neighborhood is being destroyed by a highway construction project that is forcing their families to move away. But just two days before they must part ways, the boys begin receiving a strange series of signals on their phones. Convinced something bigger is going on, they team up with another school friend, Emma, and set out to look for the source of their phone signals.

Ariel Winter, best known for starring on ABC sitcom Modern Family, has retained her sister Shanelle Gray as her permanent legal guardian following a drawn out court battle with her mother, Crisoula Workman.
Ariel Winter Reaches Settlement
The settlement was reached in the guardianship dispute right before a trial was to commence between Winter, 16, and her mother. Workman stipulated in court that if Winter watched a video montage of family photos before the court adjourned on Monday, she’d stop fighting her wish to shift guardianship to her sister, reported Entertainment Tonight.
Following the montage, a teary Winter and her sister, Grey, exited the courtroom, declining to speak to Workman. In the settlement, Winter is not obliged to visit or speak with her mother.
Back in 2012, Winter was taken from her mother’s home amid allegations that Workman was emotionally and physically abusing her. Gray was subsequently granted temporary custody.

It’s no secret I’m a huge fan of 80′s cinema, which is one of the reason’s I love Super 8, the J.J. Abrams love-letter to 80′s sci-fi/fantasy-kid-adventure films. And so it shouldn’t be a surprise that I am excited for Earth to Echo, a throwback to such movies as Mac and Me, Flight of the Navigators, The Goonies and yes, E.T. The Extraterestirail. After being originally slated for release this spring, Relativity Media decided to delay the Spielberg-style, found footage, sci-fi adventure to a summer release. That could mean two things: either they needed more time to polish the film, or they are confident the film is strong enough to compete during the busy season. While the first time feature from Dave Green doesn’t try to hide its Spielberg aspirations, it does come with a surprising twist; a found footage twist. Earth to Echo...

Watch the new trailer for Relativity Media's "Earth to Echo" sci-fi film which opens in theaters from July 2nd, 2014. Dave Green directs the film produced by Andrew Panay and Ryan Kavanaugh, and executive-produced by Tucker Tooley, Ron Burkle, Jason Colbeck and Mark B. Johnson. What exactly is this? A poorly acted "Super 8 "meets "E.T."? I'll skip, thanks. Tuck, Munch and Alex are a closely bonded trio of inseparable friends, but their time together is coming to an end. About a month ago we were surprised with an incredibly fun-looking new sci-fi film called Earth to Echo. The found footage film was supposed to be released on April 24h, 2014, but according to Erc, Relativity has pushed that date to July. The studio must have a lot of confidence in the film to give it a summer release date.
The movie seems to have a kind of '80s Amblin magical feel to it, like The Goonies, E.T., Explorers, and even J.J. Abrams' Super 8. Here's the synopsis for the movie,
