In 2021, Pointless fans had to come to terms with the fact that change is the only constant in this crazy, crazy world when the show’s co-creator and co-host Richard Osman left to pursue other career opportunities such as being an incredibly successful crime novelist, and taking the main seat on his own game show Richard Osman’s House of Games.
Good for Richard Osman, it all seems to be very going well for him. But for Pointless?
Taking its cue from satirical current affairs show Have I Got News For You?, which settled on a revolving carousel of guest hosts when its regular host Angus Deayton was forced to step down instead of plumping for a permanent chair, Pointless has welcomed a series of co-hosts in the past couple of years.

Award-winning writer and producer Chris Heath has announced a brand-new audio sitcom Cat/Person; a series of overheard conversations between a broken man Matthew (Chris Heath) and Hobson (Sue Vincent), his sarcastic, selfish, sociopathic rescue cat. Cat/Person accurately and hilariously encapsulates the kind of relentless emotional hazing that cats love to lavish on their eager-to-please ‘owners’.
Matthew is doing his best to keep himself from falling into a black hole following an unhappy divorce. To get him through the dark days, his friends recommend that he gets himself an emotional support animal.
Unfortunately, after a trip to the local Animal Shelter, he chose Hobson, a rescue cat played by Sue Vincent. Matthew is sentimental, messy and lonely. Hobson is hungry and is insisting on a treat. Immediately.

Hundreds of mourners lined the streets of a Kent village on Thursday for the funeral of comedian and entertainer Paul O’Grady who was been laid to rest following a “moving” service that included a eulogy from actor Julian Clary and a reading from Lord Michael Cashman.
The presenter – known and loved for drag alter-ego Lily Savage – died on 29 March aged 67. While his cause of death is yet to be officially disclosed, he suffered numerous heart attacks over the years.
The service featured a series of personal tributes, including a bronze statue of his beloved late dog Buster that had been placed on a leopard-print throw.
A photograph of a smiling O’Grady was placed at the front of the Grade I listed parish church surrounded by arrangements of lilies.

Paul O’Grady has been remembered as a “force for good” by his famous friends including Carol Vorderman, Julian Clary and Michael Cashman.
Celebrities paid tribute to the drag queen turned TV and radio star during For The Love of Paul O’Grady on ITV on Sunday (9 April) evening, following his death last month at the age of 67.
O’Grady, who started out as a social worker while performing on the London nightclub circuit as the acerbic, platinum wig-wearing Lily Savage, died “unexpectedly but peacefully” on 28 March, his partner Andre Portasio said in a statement.
Remembering O’Grady for his activism, Vorderman, 62, said: “He was not only brilliant as an entertainer, he was a force for good.”
Former Labour Party leader Ed Miliband added: “He wasn’t just a fighter for the underdog, somebody who was willing to use his platform to speak up for people who didn’t have a platform,...

It takes many people to fill Richard Osman’s shoes, and not just because he wears a size 14. Back in April 2021, the TV presenter, producer and novelist announced that he was leaving his co-presenter role on Pointless to focus on his hugely successful Thursday Murder Club book series and other projects. Due to the ‘stars we see in the night sky are actually hundreds of years in the past’ nature of TV broadcast, by that point, Osman was already four months out of the job. His final episode of the regular Pointless (he’ll still appear on the celebrity editions) was filmed in December 2021 and aired in July 2022, with this touching message to Alexander Armstrong.
When Pointless returned for Series 28 in September 2022, it came with a rotating clutch of new guest-hosts sitting behind Osman’s fact-checking desk. First up was Sally Lindsay, and following her were Stephen Mangan, Lauren Laverne,...

Rihanna will be the headline performer at next year’s Super Bowl halftime show in February 2023, the National Football Leage (NFL) has announced.
The 34-year-old singer and businesswoman will take top billing at perhaps the biggest single musical performance in America, joining fellow pop titans such as Lady Gaga, Beyonce, and Madonna.
"Rihanna is a generational talent, a woman of humble beginnings who has surpassed expectations at every turn,” said Jay-Z, whose company Roc Nation is one of the producers of the show, on Sunday.
“A person born on the small island of Barbados who became one of the most prominent artists ever. Self-made in business and entertainment.”
Rihanna, known off stage as Robyn Rihanna Fenty, previously declined an offer to perform at the 2020 Super Bowl halftime show in solidarity with Colin Kaepernick, who has been unsigned by any American football team since his on-pitch protests against racial injustice in 2016.

A relative of one of Jeffrey Dahmer’s victims has spoken out against Netflix’s new thriller, Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, for “retraumatising” their family.
The show – based on serial killer Dahmer’s real crimes – stars Mare of Easttown actor Evan Peters as the man also known as the “Milwaukee Cannibal” and the “Milwaukee Monster”, who committed the murders and dismemberments of 17 men and boys between 1978 and 1991.
Since its arrival on the platform on 22 September, some have found the show’s gruesome scenes nauseating, with many angered viewers believing it romanticises and glorifies the tragic murders.
One courtroom scene has gone viral using a side-by-side comparison to the actual 1992 trial. In it, Rita Isbell (portrayed by DaShawn Barnes), the older sister of 19-year-old victim Errol Lindsey, is seen yelling in agony during her trial statement.
Lindsey was strangled to death after Dahmer’s alleged experiment to keep him in a permanent zombie-like state,...

Richard Osman has feigned outrage over the fact that the laptop in the Pointless studio actually works.
In April, the BBC announced that Osman had quit Pointless after almost 13 years.
The TV personality had presented the show since its very first episode in 2009 with Alexander Armstrong, with the latter now being joined by a rotating cast of co-presenters for the new series.
Coronation Street and Scott & Bailey star Sally Lindsay was the first celebrity to step into Osman’s shoes for last night’s episode (20 September), and she made use of a laptop in the studio to help her present.
Sharing an image of Lindsay using the computer, Osman – who was hardly seen going on the device during his years as host – tweeted: “Wait, the laptop Works Now????”
Lindsay later posted: “Thank you everyone (especially the legend @richardosman) for your comments and support regarding Pointless. It’s such a...

Exclusive: The BBC has continued commissioning UK production company Chatterbox Media despite discovering its owners Nav Raman and Ali Quirk had at least a dozen complaints lodged against them including for bullying over a 12-month period, a Deadline investigation can reveal.
Deadline has seen correspondence sent by UK broadcasting union Bectu to representatives for the BBC, Channel 4 and Channel 5 outlining “widespread and prolonged complaints of mismanagement and bullying” at Chatterbox, having received “short of ten thousand words of written testimony from Bectu members alleging this behavior.”
That letter, sent in February of this year, asked that the BBC, Channel 4 and Channel 5 “investigate this matter thoroughly and cease existing commissions while an investigation is underway.”
Since then, the BBC, which placed resolving bullying issues at the heart of its latest supplier code of conduct, has greenlit Chatterbox for BBC Three reality series Charlotte In Sunderland, led by Geordie Shore star Charlotte Crosby.

Ben Frow, the man who has spent the past decade turning around the fortunes of Paramount-owned Channel 5, has labelled some shows on BBC One, BBC Two, ITV and Channel 4 “lazy,” “second-rate” and “mediocre.”
In a typically candid Royal Television Society Q&a session with Apple Europe Video boss Jay Hunt, who has run programing for BBC One, Channel 4 and Channel 5 in the past, Frow urged the UK’s Public Service Broadcasters to “ensure we do our very best to keep our viewers watching us” in the face of mega competition and rising budgets.
Including his own channel in this analysis, Frow said he “sometimes looks across the schedules and thinks ‘Is this the best we can really be?’.”
He went on to call some competitors’ shows “lazy,” “second-rate” and “mediocre” and said “99 out of 100 times I can tell when they won’t work.”

Viacom’s UK production studio has set its sights on moving into drama and children’s programming as its sister broadcaster Channel 5 plots life after Big Brother.
C5 unveiled its first annual financial results since the decision to cancel the long-running Endemol Shine format and despite a slight dip in turnover, it revealed that spent 2% more on original programming than in the previous year.
Turnover for the fiscal year of 2018, which ran to the end of September, was down from £379.7M (Us$473.3M) to £376.3M (Us$469.1M) with operating profit down from £45M to £39.9M. However, the company said that the latter’s decrease was down to a “decision by management to increase spend on UK original programming by 2% despite a decrease in turnover”. Its total content spend last year was £232M, which includes all programming spend including acquisitions.

British broadcasters are going back to drama basics as they line up a swathe of lower budget scripted series to counter the multi-billion spend of the global SVODs.
Broadcasters including the BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5 are preparing for a drama future where the likes of Netflix, which spends around $6.5M per episode of The Crown, for instance, and Amazon, which is expected to spend hundreds of millions of dollars on its adaptation of Lord of the Rings, are looking to take all global rights to projects.
Over the last few years, British networks have taken advantage of digital co-pro funds with shows such as C4 and Amazon’s Electric Dreams and BBC and Netflix’s Troy costing millions. But, these funds are soon expected to dry up, with the likes of Sister Pictures founder Jane Featherstone saying “the honeymoon is over”, leading domestic broadcasters to find new...

Mount Pleasant has quietly gone about its business since launching on Sky1 in 2011, and it returns on the channel for a fifth series tonight (September 11) after three years on Sky Living.
Neil Fitzmaurice - perhaps best known for the dastardly Jeff in Peep Show and his Phoenix Nights work with Peter Kay - is also back as office manager Fergus, and he told Digital Spy that he is impressed by its continued popularity.
"Like anything on TV, it's a business, and if you put a show on and it does okay and sort of trundles along, maybe you'll get two series out of it," he said. "The special thing about Mount Pleasant is that it just steadily got bigger and bigger every year. That's not something that happens all the time.

Now in its fourth year, BBC Comedy Feeds has served up regular batches of pilots on the web to give exposure to new talent, with several shows eventually being picked up as full BBC Three series.
First screened at the BBC Salford Sitcom Showcase 2015 in May, Fishbowl is launched on BBC iPlayer this Monday (July 13).
It's been described by its creators as "a warm-hearted comedy about the suffocating joy of hanging out with your parents in a lovely little town where escape is impossible and there's usually chips for tea".
Fishbowl stars Katherine Rose Morley as Hattie, a girl who is forced to return home to mum and dad after an eventful first term at university.

The pair - who have three-year-old twin boys Victor and Louie - tied the knot after Steve walked her down the isle on their special day during a ceremony which took place shortly before Christmas. She told Hello! Magazine: ''The person who looks after me the most in the world is Steve so it would seem daft if we didn't walk up the aisle together. ''It was also really important to me that we walked down as a family.'' Sally - who was catapulted to the spotlight on soap 'Coronation Street' as...

Loose Women is reportedly lining up a number of new faces to join its panel.
Denise Van Outen, The Saturdays singer Rochelle Humes and actress Angela Griffin have all been linked with the show.
It is believed that ITV Daytime head Helen Warner wants to bring in the trio to attract younger viewers.
It has also been suggested that panelists such as Sally Lindsay, Janet Street Porter, Linda Robson and Sherrie Hewson will be required to appear on less shows.
"ITV bosses aren't impressed with the sliding viewing figures so bringing in younger, more diverse hosts is a gamble," a source told The Sun.
"They have been told that if this latest throw of the dice doesn't work then the show might not have a future."
Pop star Jamelia recently joined the show, alongside former panellists Kaye Adams, Nadia Sawalha, Jane Moore and Colleen Nolan.

Coleen Nolan and Kaye Adams are both returning to Loose Women later this month, ITV has confirmed.
Adams, the show's original anchor, will be back in the presenter's chair and will share the role with Carol Vorderman and Andrea McLean.
Nolan will return to a seat on the panel on Monday, October 7.
Kaye left the show in 2006, while Nolan departed in 2011 with an emotional send-off.
The duo join a lineup of panelists, which includes Sherrie Hewson, Jane McDonald, Denise Welch, Lisa Maxwell, Janet Street-Porter, Sally Lindsay, Linda Robson and Shobna Gulati.
"After two and half years away, now feels like the right time to 'come home' to Loose Women," said Nolan.
"I'm ready to embrace the show whole-heartedly again and return to the most special of places - the homes of our viewers. It's the public that have always mattered the most to me and the Loose Women audience are the most loyal of all.

A number of Loose Women stars are reportedly facing the axe by early 2014.
ITV bosses are said to be looking to make some changes in the daytime show following a drop in ratings, according to The Sun.
Each panellist has allegedly been handed short 12-week contracts, with their place on the show getting reviewed in January.
Carol Vorderman, Carol McGiffin and Linda Robson are among the stars who may be replaced in the New Year.
Celebrity Big Brother star McGiffin and Sherrie Hewson are 2/1 favourites to go, according to the tabloid.
Jane McDonald and Janet Street-Porter follow at 3/1, while Lisa Maxwell and Sally Lindsay have odds of 4/1.
However, Denise Welch and Andrea McLean are tipped to survive the axe, bookmakers Ladbrokes has said.
Loose Women creator Helen Warner recently returned to ITV from Channel 4 as the new Head of Daytime.
